Enjoy the drama! (Also, I'm sorry I forgot to post this on Thursday!)
On the last Sunday before the Provisional Hero License Exam, Class 1-A waited in the common room with bated breath. One would expect them to wait with trepidation and excitement for the test. Nope. The entire lot of them could hardly spare a single brain cell towards it, for there was something bigger than the test happening amongst the students of Class 1-A.
Each student had heard from a classmate, who'd heard from a classmate, who'd probably heard from Dark Shadow, that THE Bakugo Katsuki went home with everyone's beloved Tsuyu-chan to ask her father for her hand in marriage.
There had (probably) been some sort of exaggeration of the story, but it was enough for everyone to find some excuse to be in the common room on Sunday around 10 or 11 am when Tsuyu normally arrived back at school from home. They knew there'd be some coupling up in the class, but they hadn't expected it before their second year. Nor had they expected, in any of their wildest dreams, that it would be those two. It was odd! Maybe scary.
Midoriya-chan spent most of the morning muttering to himself, making endless notes in a notebook, trying to understand what the girl could possibly have done to distract Kacchan, the most driven person he knew, from training on a weekend as important as this one. Mineta and Kaminari held a night-time service, mourning the loss of such amazing eye candy. If she could have paired with anyone else, they would risk copping a feel from time to time or openly ogling her like they were used to. If she was Bakugo's girl, such a feat would only end in a gruesomely explosive death. Mineta shed many tears into his Waifu-themed handkerchief.
The girls of Class-A spent the weekend crowded in Toru's room. They were entirely submerged in gossip, talking a thousand words a minute and tracing the signs they had missed of such a pairing. Tsu and Bakugo! How could they have been so blind? They talked themselves in circles, passed out from exhaustion, woke up, stuck a bagel in their mouths, slathered it with toothpaste to freshen their breaths, and kept on chattering. It was a serious business. The only exception was Mina, who chose to spend her time shutting down gossip and defending their friend's privacy with Kirishima and Sero.
"They were paired for that assignment," Yaomomo pointed out. "Maybe he fell for her while they were working together."
"But it's Bakugo," Jirou added, shaking her head in confusion.
"Yea, and anyway, we've all worked with him once or twice," Ochako said, pacing the room. "Why her and not any of us? What does she have?"
"Well, she is pretty straightforward," Toru added, where she lounged on the bed, flipping through a magazine. "He would probably value something like that. And she's never been easily phased by his anger."
"None of us are easily phased by his anger anymore," Ochako-chan retorted. "Which makes me ask again? Why her?"
"Aren't you listening?" Yaomomo said, clicking her teeth in annoyance. "Tsuyu-chan has never been phased by his anger. That makes a difference."
"Okay, but I'm the only girl who fought him," Ochako whined. "If anyone can handle his anger, it's me."
"The real question is how did she fall for him?" Jiro questioned, pointing an emphatic earphone at each girl. They thought about it for merely a second before each and every girl blushed bright as a tomato. He may have been crazy, but he certainly had his charms. "Nevermind," Jiro muttered.
It didn't help that neither of them were answering their text messages, phone calls, or even e-mail. Ochako-chan knew the Asuis had a no-phone policy on family weekends, but surely they would make an exception for such groundbreaking news! The students were forced to wait until Sunday at 10 am when they knew the pair would arrive home, where they would bombard them with questions about the status of their marriage...or relationship. Probably.
They stuffed themselves in the common room, pulled out homework, gaming systems, flat-irons, exercise equipment, fired up the oven, or the grill, or the stove, and occupied themselves as they sat down to wait. And wait, and wait, and wait. She was late! Tsuyu-chan was hardly ever late in returning to school from home and on the day before the exam? Something was off.
That is why they found it so shocking when Bakugo ambled tiredly down the stairs at around 2 o'clock in the afternoon, scratching his stomach and searching idly for breakfast. Their eyes became saucers. Another clue to the mystery, but they had no clue what it meant. He was upstairs...how could he have been upstairs?! But - had Dark Shadow lied? It was true no one had seen him yesterday, and Tokoyami himself confirmed the story, along with MIdoriya and a silent nod from Koda.
The entire room was silent as they watched Bakugou trek across the kitchen, grab a bowl from the cabinet, and begin heating up some oatmeal. They watched him like an award-winning film as he tested the oatmeal for consistency, heated it up a bit more, and pulled out a variety of performance powders and protein supplements to add to it, all the while beginning to shake from his shoulders down to his toes until his head began to jerk angrily as he fiercely stirred his oatmeal and-
"WHAT THE HELL HAS GOTTEN INTO YOU DAMN NERDS?! DID THAT ZOMBIE KID COME BACK AND INFECT YOU ALL?! I'LL KILL YOU IF YOU DON'T STOP BEING CREEPY!"
Their mouths dropped as they confirmed that Bakugo had indeed come downstairs almost 9 hours later than his usual wake-up time without any hint or mention of anything to do with Asui-san. It was only Kirishima who truly knew that something was wrong. He was a good friend and kept his mouth shut about Bakugo-chan's crush. It wasn't his story to tell. That was how he knew, without being told, that his friend had gone home with Tsuyu-chan. If he was back early and eating breakfast at 2 pm, then something had seriously gone wrong. Quietly and subtly, he shrank back from the crowd and went upstairs to wait in Bakugo's room. He had a feeling his friend would need him.
"Where is Asui-san?" Midoriya asked dumbly. None of his notes and calculations had predicted this outcome.
"WHO?!" Bakugo burst, shoving oatmeal into his mouth by violent, heaping spoonfuls. The entire counter shook with the force of it.
"What do you mean who?!" the class yelled, singularly. "Short, dark eyes, green hair tied in a bow?"
"DO YOU MEAN THAT FROG CHICK?!" Bakugo yelled, grabbing his oatmeal and heading upstairs where he could eat in peace. "WHY THE FUCK WOULD I KNOW HER NAME?! OR WHERE SHE IS? hUH? DAMN EXTRAS!"
Then he stomped away as the class quietly gathered their things and dispersed to rethink their entire weekends. Only Ochako-chan remained, stubbornly remaining glued to the sofa where she would wait to question Tsuyu-chan herself.
That had been close, Bakugo growled to himself, too close. He'd nearly lost his breakfast at the mention of her name. He'd trained for about 15 hours straight after arriving at his dorm late Saturday night and had actually just snuck in his window from training before realizing he would look suspicious if he arrived in sweaty clothes. So he'd showered, changed into his normal loungewear, and went downstairs to find that they had all been suspicious anyway.
He had practiced until he could hardly see straight and still he couldn't stop thinking of that damn frog, her concerned eyes when she came out and the stony glare she wore when angry. Her words were knives in his heart and he had no idea what to do to stop the bleeding. He came from a home where he was yelled at and cursed about every other second. He was fine with that.
He did the same to his parents, though his dad couldn't dish it or take it like he and his mom could. If he felt hurt by her words, it wasn't for long. He'd train for a few hours, rage as explosively as he could, and feel nothing of the pain by that evening. It wasn't like that with Tsuyu-chan. She didn't yell. She didn't curse.
And it hurt more than anything he had ever felt. It was awful because along with that hurt he felt a pang of terrible guilt that she was at home, doing god knows what and probably feeling the same way. Or at least he hoped she was. She couldn't be unaffected, could she? Or had they really had nothing?
"Fuck!" he cursed angrily, tears burning hot behind his eyes again. He was losing to her and she wasn't even here. What was wrong with him? No wonder he had ended All Might, he was so weak that he couldn't even get over some stupid girl.
"Fuck is right," Kirishima said, from where he lounged on Bakugo's bed. "You're in bad shape, aren't you? Did you even actually sleep last night?"
O, spiky hair was here. Damn. Bakugo took his shirt off and threw it into the hamper before glaring at his friend. He didn't have time for this. He needed to sleep, so he could train, so he could prove Asui-san wrong and destroy his feeling for her in one fell swoop.
"Get out, spiky-haired freak," Bakugo growled, not really expecting the boy to listen. Not entirely sure he wanted him to. Fuck. "I haven't slept in over 24 hours."
"By all means," Kirishima said, with a very gentlemanly gesture to the empty spot next to him. Bakugo sighed and complied, cursing all the while as he slid beneath the covers and felt his muscles groan in exhaustion. Stupid bastards needing rest and recuperation. "So what happened? With Tsuyu this weekend?"
Bakugo-chan turned over and said nothing, his mind working angrily over the events of the weekend.
"Rumor around here is that you two ran off to get hitched," Kirishima said, casually, as if it were nothing. Bakugo felt his heart hiccup painfully and pick up speed at the thought of...with Asui-san. No! He screamed internally, stupid loser heart, shut the fuck up! Still, he said nothing.
"Did you break up or something?" Kirishima said, with such ease that Bakugo suddenly understood that his friend felt slighted. He thought they were dating and Bakugo hadn't told him. It was true he hadn't mentioned going home with her, but that had been a pretty spur-of-the-moment decision. Still, he might have mentioned it. Glowering at the unfairness of life, he knew he'd have to give him some answer.
"We were never together," Katsuki said, grimacing. He was glad the other boy couldn't see his face. "And we aren't friends or anything either, so stop asking me about her."
"Did you have a fight?"
"No," Katsuki lied, bunching the covers tighter around his head like he did when he was a little boy and he hadn't learned to yell and cuss back when his mother was angry at him.
"Then why didn't you bring any of your stuff back?" he asked, referencing the empty space in Bakugo's normally crowded room. Bakugo said nothing. If he spoke, he would give it all away and he wasn't ready to do that yet.
"I see," Kirishima said, with a sad tone to his voice. "Sleep well. Come find me when you're ready to talk."
"Whatever, nerd," Katsuki growled, submerging himself completely within the blanket and willing himself to sleep.
"Are you sure you'll be okay?" Mrs. Asui asked as she parked the car for her daughter to go back to school. It was late, much later than they usually dropped her off, but she had needed extra time with her family.
"Yes," Tsuyu answered, shortly. "Eventually."
It was a horrible feeling to have such dry eyes and feel such sorrow. It was like being drowned in it with no wait out, be that air or death. It hurt. Still, surely she would be fine eventually. They had only been friends for a few weeks. At some point, she would be okay even if she wasn't now. It only made sense.
"Okay," her mother said, looking uncertain. "Why don't you come home next weekend too?"
And relive everything that had happened between them every time she saw the kitchen or dining room or her bedroom or the backyard? That's okay, thanks. At least they had never been very open with her friendship at school. At worst, there were just a few training areas she needed to avoid and the library, but they'd been banned anyway. Her heart hurt at the thought of that first day of training and she quickly changed her thoughts.
"I'm going to be a hero one day," Tsuyu said, resolutely. "If I can do that, I can do anything."
She got out of the car with her stuff over one shoulder and her tongue wrapped around the heavy bag full of Katsuki's workout equipment. Plus, his phone was in her pocket. He'd left it in their "family time" basket when he left so suddenly. She would have to see him. The thought made her tummy flutter in excitement, but it also made her bones feel very cold.
She waved goodbye to her mom and stepped through the threshold. It was very late and the common room was empty. She had expected that with the test tomorrow. She moved quickly, hoping to drop it off at his door and hop away before he could answer. That would be safe. And maybe she could linger around the corner long enough to see him before he shut the door again.
"Where are you rushing off to?" Ochako-chan said, turning on a lamp and revealing herself in the darkened room. So dramatic, Tsuyu thought, relatively unfazed despite the great surprise it was to find her there. "Is that Bakugo's stuff?"
"Yes," Tsuyu answered shortly, not wanting to linger. She felt guilty enough about almost kissing her friend's crush. It would be hard to face her friend. "It is."
"So, it's true?" Ochako-chan said, crossing her arms across her chest. "You went home with him, then?"
"Actually, he came home with me," Tsuyu said, blushing.
"You know what I mean," Ochako-chan said, her tone suddenly sharp. It's nothing you don't deserve, Tsuyu reminded herself.
"I'm not sure I do," Tsuyu-chan replied. "Unless you only mean that I invited him to meet my family and he did."
"Is that the only thing he did?" Ochako-chan asked, her tone hard.
"No," Tsuyu answered honestly in a small voice. "I-I was going to tell you, Ochako. But he almost kissed me. I mean, I almost kissed him. I tried to kiss him."
Ochako sucked in a sharp breath at the admission. So, Tsuyu-chan really…? She hadn't truly thought that the other girl would, or could, get in the way of one of her crushes. It's why she liked her so much. Or, at least, more than the other girls. Yaomomo was gorgeous and friendly, Jiro and Mina could be boyish, but that only made boys more comfortable around them which could be dangerous, and Toru was very girly and very forward. Even if she was invisible, it could be competition.
Tsuyu-chan, on the other hand, was cute, sure, but she was also a frog. There was pretty much no way she would get in the middle of what Ochako-chan wanted. And what Ochako-chan wanted, she got. She had spent so long being the girl who made sacrifices. She had sacrificed friends to spend time working for her parents, sacrificed time and energy to be sure her friends got what they wanted until she looked up one day and tried to remember a single thing that she'd wanted and gone after.
The only thing she could think of was UA. She could have gotten into any school, but she decided she wanted the best. Then, she had gotten into the best class at the best school and figured she should try for what she wanted more often. She had earned it. In fact, her entire dream was nothing but a sacrifice to her parents. She'd told Deku as much. Heroes were rich and she wanted to be rich for her parents. It was that simple. If she was dedicating her entire life for her parents' then she could take some small things for herself along the way. Like Deku, who she found endlessly inspiring. He helped her figure out that she actually wanted to be a hero for herself, too, and now she tried to chase it as hard as he did.
Recently, it had occurred to her that she wanted Bakugo too. He was a bad boy, but not a villain. He was the antithesis of Deku in almost every way and there was something about his intensity that drew her in. It was the same with Deku, but his intensity was just...different. If she had to choose, it would be Deku of course. But that's the thing: She wanted to choose what she wanted. Tsuyu was taking that choice from her by stealing Katsuki off the market.
UA had taught her that she liked to get what she wanted sometimes and she was determined to get this too.
"How far did it go?" Ochako asked, wondering how much damage needed to be undone. What if they had...done the deed? It would be hard to come back from that, but she was determined to.
"It went nowhere," Tsuyu said, a sob in her voice. A light lit up in Ochako's brain. Oh, good. This was good. "He-he wouldn't even look at me and he said I would never shine brighter than you. And he thinks our friendship was a mistake."
"Oh, honey," Ochako said, enveloping her friend in her arms. "Boys are stupid pigs and Bakugo is the stupidest and the piggiest. You deserve so much better than him, you know."
"I-I felt so guilty," Tsuyu said, not meeting her eyes. "Because I know you want him and I-I tried to stay away, but I fell for him despite myself."
"Staying away will be easier now," Ochako said, running her hands through Tsuyu's silky hair and clucking at her soothingly. "Let me take that stuff up to him and you can concentrate on feeling better."
"But I-" Tsuyu began to say.
"Am staying away from him now," Ochako-chan interjected, smiling as she made his bag lightweight and grabbed it easily from the floor. "I'll come by to say goodnight. Go on, head to bed."
Ochako waited until the girl disappeared up the stairs before she made her way to Bakugo's room. He thought she shined bright, she gushed to herself. If a boy like him noticed her, despite being so focussed on hero work, then she was sure they all did. She ignored the small lingering voice that told her to go downstairs and fix Tsuyu some chocolate, wake the other girls and have a sleepover to cheer her up. Ignore this boy, you don't need him. Be with your friend.
She ignored it, as had become her habit. Until that small part of her fell silent again. The other part of her, which had been small once and had grown quite large since beginning at UA, told her to put on shorter shorts and a tighter shirt before seeing Bakugo-chan. Or perhaps she should call him Katsuki...Or Kacchan like Deku does?
She put on some itty bitty pajama shorts and a tank top that hugged her curves. The small voice spoke up again: "Have some class. Deku wouldn't like seeing you so undressed after all and he matters most." She ignored it and put on some eyeliner. After some thought, she wondered if that voice was right and put a thin robe over her outfit, but left it open. Better. Then she grabbed Bakugo's stuff and went to knock on his door.
That night, Bakugo was dreaming traitorously froggy dreams. In his dream, Satsuki had never knocked and Tsuyu had never left his arms. They'd kissed like they were starved and later, while they were watching Y&A, he'd gotten to kiss the frown off her face when she saw Sharon's Frolligator Hybrid. He was still kissing the frown off her face, and perhaps moving towards a little more than that as she reached and-
Knock. Knock. Knock.
"Bakugo?" asked a sultry voice. "Can I come in? The door is locked."
Good. Go way, Satsuki, he thought, leaning into Tsuyu-chan to brush her bangs from her face. Keep going, he whispered in her ear. What a perfect face. Knock. Knock. Knock! He ignored it. Knock. Knock! Knock! He moved a thin strap aside and kissed Tsu's gloriously bare shoulder. Knock! Knock! Knock!
"Bakugo-chan?" said the sultry voice, which was wrong, SO FUCKING WRONG! Where was the subtle CROAK?! The HINT OF SHYNESS?! Huh? It wasn't Tsuyu and he wanted them DEAD!
"DIE!" he screamed, bolting awake and firing blasts at his ceiling. "I'LL KILL WHOEVER IS BEHIND THAT DOOR!"
He yanked the door open with such force that Ochako-chan flew against his bare chest. Why the fuck would this unimportant character be at his door in the middle of the NIGHT?! WHY?!
"WHY?!" He asked out loud.
"Bakugo-chan," said the same sultry voice that interrupted his misadventures with Tsuyu-chan….which he wasN'T SUPPOSED TO BE HAVING, DAMMIT! TRAITOROUS BRAIN, WE DON'T LIKE HER ANYMORE! gET WITH THE PROGRAM!
"WHY DO YOU SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE TO HACK?" he bellowed, stomping and willing himself not to sear the wooden floors in the hallway. Oh, but he needed to explode. RIGHT NOW!
"Oh," Ochako coughed to clear her through and began speaking regularly now. "Tsuyu-chan wanted me to bring you this. She doesn't want to see you, but I didn't mind so-"
"WHO IS THAT?" Bakugo yelled ignorantly, willingly searing the wood floors in his increased wrath. "DON'T GO MENTIONING RANDOM PEOPLE AT MY DOOR SO LATE, FLOATY LOSER!"
Ochako-chan began to look uncomfortable and seemed to rethink something. He didn't give her the time to find her thoughts. He needed her gone so he could train his desire from Tsuyu away and that wouldn't happen as long as a STUPID IRRELEVANT CHICK WAS AT HIS DOOR SAYING HER NAME!
"Um-I," Ochako began, trying to get her bearings as Kacchan snatched the lightweight bag from her, shoved her out of his room, and slammed the door violently with an explosive blast that caused it to explode in a burst of chipped wood.
"DAMMIT!" he yelled, grabbing his blanket and firing blasts hot enough to melt the polyester fibers against the doorframe. There. Privacy.
"I was just going to mention that I didn't blame you for-" Ochako stubbornly resisted her dismissal, shouting through the door frame.
"MAKE MY WEIGHTS HEAVY OR I'LL KILL YOU, INVASIVE, PERSISTENT WEIRDO!"
Every light in the hallway was on and more than a few eyes were peaking around the door frame. Behind the blanket, Ochako-chan flushed bright red and made the weights heavy again before scurrying away with a squeaked "Good Night!" FINALLY! Bakugo tried to lie back down only to find that he saw Tsuyu-chan's bare shoulder behind his eyelids and his imagination kept wanting to figure out what would have happened if she had been able to reach and-
TRAINING! TIME TO TRAIN! TRAIN UNTIL I DIE! AND REVIVE AS THE BEST HERO! iMMEDIATELY! FUCK YOU, IMAGINATION! ALRIGHT?!
He set up his workout equipment and piled every single weight in his room on the squat bench. He wouldn't get faster unless he was stronger. Maybe this would help him become strong enough to outrun his damn infatuation with this stupid frog girl.
Hello!
Hope you guys enjoyed that. What do you think of my Ochako? I know she's OOC but I still hope you find her believable :). Anyway, there will be redemption for her. Angel Ochako is in there somewhere.
