Bill had been angry since the order meeting. He was past snarking and commenting into pure livid and everyone kept a distance from him. Except Harry of course. The moment he stomped up to his room, she gave the twins a quick goodbye before going up as well. As soon as she entered the room, he pulled her to him. "Your colors are flaring," She offered acknowledging that he was not okay and something very serious was bothering him. "Lock us in Bill and start talking because I've never seen you so angry before."
He almost growled barely stopping himself. "I'm beginning to think there is more wolf than I wanted to admit," he said but he did what she suggested.
She snorted, blaming the wolf for his growly nature was hardly fair. "Why because you get all growly, I thought that was a guy thing scar boy." He didn't fall into the normal banter and so she pushed him towards the bed till he fell into it. She climbed up beside him laying back. He didn't move just laid back silently. She truly did not have the patience to wait until he decided to talk so she spoke again. "What happened Bill? I get you are not supposed to tell us about the order meetings but something clearly happened to have you so angry not even the twins will dare go near you."
"Dumbledore happened," he admitted. "He is just...He just is making me so angry."
"Dumbledore is an arsewhole," Harry said without hesitation even though she was quite literally within the den of Dumbledore's most loyal. "Who thinks he knows better than everyone else because he is old and apparently defeated a big bad dark wizard decades ago. What did he do this time?"
Bill couldn't help but choke slightly at her bluntness. "No Dumbledore worship?"
"Never from me," Harry promised a bit of bitterness leaking through her tone. She realized he probably would not understand her reasonings, but she explained it in the only way she could. "His colors are wrong. I can't always put a label to them, but they are wrong. His aura just doesn't feel right. Like there is something deep within that is wrong."
"I wish I could see colors so I could have known that before," Bill said the anger and bitterness slipping through his tone, "Before my life went to hell."
She elbowed his side getting a gasp of pain. "Deflecting scar boy. What did Dumbledore say now?" It clearly had to be something, the Weasleys were typically his most loyal and to make Bill this angry, something had to have happened."
"Just about how Voldemort is after you," he admitted.
Harry scoffed, was this supposed to be a surprise to her? She had known that for far too long to be bothered by that fact. "Surprise, surprise, that shouldn't have surprised you, Bill. Voldemort's been after me when I was still in diapers. Now what crawled up your arse?"
"It's nothing." Harry elbowed him again. She was not putting up with the deflecting and expected an honest answer. "Bloody hell Harry, you have sharp elbows."
"Don't lie to me and I won't use them," She returned. She couldn't stand him lying to her too. Too many of the others did not respect her. She would not put up with it from him too. Not after everything.
"He is so...he won't listen to anyone but himself," Bill admitted slowly finding the words. "We were talking about how he is after you, how you're in danger from him. That we knew but Sirius suggested that we train you to make sure your prepared."
Harry could picture the argument that caused. "Let me guess, Poor Harry, would be such a good savior if she wasn't blind. Always have to step in so she doesn't get hurt yada yada yada, so on and so forth, poor poor Harry. No place in this war for the freak who can't see. She won't be any use, girl who lived or not. She can be an image for hope but nothing more than a pretty little show piece because she is no use blind," Harry drawled out. "waste of time to teach me anything because I'll be useless in the end fight and really Dumbles is such a great man for stepping in and making sure I'm locked away safely and out of sight so people don't need to be reminded of the blind freak."
Bill was shocked at just how calmly she could say that, clearly having heard it enough she didn't even have to think. Too much of what she just said, matched the orders. Bill hated it. Sure, he had not known Harry as long as some, but she was worth so much more than what they seemed to believe. "Don't call yourself that," Bill growled wishing he could deny her words. That pretty much highlighted the entire meeting. Lamented how she was useless to them. How they couldn't depend on her despite the prophecy that he was sure he wasn't supposed to know about that they were sworn to silence about.
"Tell me then Bill, is that not what was said?"
Despite how hurtful the words were, he chose not to lie to her. "They pretty much deemed it useless to teach you things for the war because your blind, as if that would ever stop you from being a full witch. They spoke as if you were half a person, and it is so bloody stupid. They shut Sirius down because they needed to focus on more important matters."
"Get used to it Bill, people look at me and they see the blind freak potter girl," Harry said. "I've accepted that. It is funny, they keep shoving me to the side because, what use will I be, but Voldemort still sees me as a threat. I don't know why. I don't think I will ever understand. Perhaps it is a pride thing. I survived. So, if a baby defeated him, he has to defeat that person to ever win. Its two conflicting sides to the fight. I have long since given up on most people."
"You are probably right in some ways, or maybe he knows something we don't," Bill said. "Or maybe he realizes blindness does not make you less of a witch which they seem to ignore. Either way, it shouldn't matter. You're a part of this. Even if your sixteen. I don't want you to be, but this nonsense doesn't help anything but how can they ignore that? How can they just leave you to fend for yourself?"
"You mean patting me on the head sending me into the room. No need to worry my pretty little head," Harry said. "I have long stopped caring Bill."
Bill growled again, it was so demeaning, how the order spoke about her was demeaning. She didn't deserve that. "Your more than capable."
"Bill, I'm blind, I'll always be half a witch," Harry said.
He flinged her on the forehead. She fell back slightly startled hardly able to believe it. "Owe, did you just fling me."
"Your colors were ugly," he returned using her own words against her. "Your better than that Harry. Self pity doesn't suit you."
"It's not self-pity, its acceptance. People will always see me as half a witch. Everyone else accepts it."
"Since when does what everyone else think matter," he challenged. She did not let him accept it and maybe, for once, he needed to be strong for her instead of the opposite way around.
Harry shrugged. "in this it does. Voldemort is coming for me Bill. Lucks not going to help me win. People barely want me participating in normal classes because I'm blind. they think I should do something more my pace. No one sees me as having a chance against him but he keeps coming anyways. It might hurt for you to hear but it is the truth."
"I don't accept that," Bill said. "I don't accept that you don't have a chance. Your brilliant Harry."
"Brilliant but Blind."
"You see more than everyone else does," Bill said. "Your talent, viewing magic and the deepest parts of us, it is amazing. Why doesn't people like Dumbledore see the potential, surely he of all people should."
"Bill, Dumbledore doesn't accept different," Harry said. "He doesn't like me because I see through him. He can't play kindly well-meaning all-knowing grandfatherly old man to me because I see who he truly is. I scare him. He doesn't like that he can't control me. I unnerve people. A lot of people. I'm blind but I watch them. I see them. I know the orders talked about how creepy I am."
He was sure they tried to keep that away from her so he wondered where she had heard it. Were they cruel enough to say it to her face? "How do you know that?"
"I ease drop. A lot," Harry returned unashamed of her rule breaking.
"I still don't accept it," Bill decided. He had grown to care about Harry, more then he thought was possible. He would not just accept them leaving her to fend for herself against the deadliest dark lord in their history, one that even outmatched Grindelwald. "I don't accept that you can't have a fighting chance if someone gives you one. They are holding you back, you could do anything if they stopped trying to make you fit the box of disabled blind girl and just let you be you. It is like that stupid decision not to let you take runes, already your beyond brilliant at it with just a few days learning..."
Harry shrugged, "Don't let them get to you Scar boy. I try not to let their opinions get to me. I'm surprised Sirius is still trying. He'd teach me himself if he could but Azkaban took too much of his spell knowledge and control and Remus loves me but won't do anything without Dumbledore's permission. We could have way more fun than brooding about things we can't change Bill."
Bill had frozen completely. It was slightly insane but completely possible. Harry poked his side wondering where his mind went. "Normally with that last suggestion you'd start ravishing me. You really need to let this go Bill."
"You're interested in learning about my job right?"
Harry looked confused, "what, way off topic," Harry said. "But yes. Cursebreaking sounds interesting."
"Did I ever tell you it is not just about breaking curses but learning ancient magic styles in order to better understand them," Bill questioned.
Harry still couldn't follow his point. "I'm sure you mentioned something about it, why?"
"Because it is like you said, Voldemort's coming for you," Bill said. "I...the thought makes me sick but I can't always be there to fight with you. Protect you..." He stopped her protests. "Not that you need protecting but right now you don't have the magic knowledge to fight alone against someone of his power."
"Go on, I know all this," Harry said.
"If they don't teach you, I will," bill said. "I'm not going to let you go off defenseless dependent on the order who can't get their heads out of there arses to deal with the problem. I know magics most of them couldn't even dream of. I have access to tombs even Dumbledore wouldn't have knowledge of. Prove those idiots wrong. Prove that you're twice the witch they could ever be. I can't lose you Harry, not after just finding you. The idea of it, it makes me sick. I can't just stand back while they ignore the problem, not when it involves you."
"So, you want to teach me ancient magics that they probably don't approve of, to give me a fighting chance with a megalomaniac with delusions of grandeur who wants to murder me."
"Yes," Bill said bluntly.
Harry was silent for a moment before she kissed him climbing on top. "Thank you Bill."
"it's nothing to offer..."
"Not for that," Harry said since it wasn't just the offer, it was so much more. "not for offering to teach me or to help me defend myself."
Now it was Bills turn to be confused, "Then what are you thanking me for?"
"For believing I can do it," Harry said. It was nice to have someone believe in her for once. "For believing in me, even though I'm blind and people...other people see me as useless because of it. You don't and I can't thank you enough for that."
"You see past my scars Harry, you see the truth of people," Bill said. "They are all idiots because they can't look any deeper than the obvious to see the real you. You have too much fight. Too much to offer. I know you can do anything. You've proven that in the short time I've known you. I have faith in that."
