Chapter seven

Smoke readied himself against this unknown foe, Tundra took a stance similar to his own, like Shirai Ryu, his new Lin Kuei and Deathstrike clans had been rivals for centuries. He had hoped to one day to put an end to the senseless bloodshed that has plagued them both for millennia.

"Lin Kuei, scum! I shall retrieve the item and bring back your frozen head to my master!" declared Tundra

"Many have tried throughout years and they've all failed, and you will too." Smoke replied

(Round one Fight!)

Smoke started off with a high jumping sidekick, which Tundra blocked, and countered with a double palm strike, Smoke backflipped a high ax kick, and countered it with a punch palm combination, Tundra answered back by firing ice blasts from his hands shooting the grass causing Smoke to wobble off balance briefly.

Smoke quickly vanished and reappeared behind Tundra, landing a kick to the back. Tundra answered back, with a double corkscrew kick which Smoke blocked, and hit a straight right cross then shot a smoke cloud hitting his opponent in the face. Tundra formed a solid sword made of ice and slashed at Smoke cutting his arm

"Argh!"

Smoke started to vibrate his body, then in a puff of smoke, he vanished baffling Tundra

"What?! Lin Kuei Scum, show yourself!" demanded Tundra

"No need to shout." the grandmaster's voice rang out

PUNCH!

The Deathstrike clan member felt himself being lifted off the air, via a surprise uppercut from out of nowhere. Tundra got back up but suddenly was hit by several blasts of smoke clouds, followed by a flying kick, knocking Tundra down again, then Smoke reappeared ready to continue the fight as Tundra got up.

(Smoke wins, Round two fight!)

The two clashed again, exchanging a flurry of punches, Tundra scored with a roundhouse to the side of Smoke sending him into a tree, Tundra leaped into the air for a stomp only for Smoke to roll out of the way.

Tundra fired another Iceball, only for Smoke to shake briefly and vanish, literally getting the drop on Tundra, answered back by creating an Ice clone of himself, then reappeared behind Smoke and hit forward double punch,

"Your style, it is exactly ...like his" murmured the gray-haired man getting back up

Tundra formed an Ice spear and tossed at Smoke only for him to teleport through and fire a large Smoke cloud blast to the face damaging his mask. Tundra growled, and fired ice shards, only one hit Smoke on the side, Smoke unleased a cloud and hit another uppercut followed by a smoke cloud blast sending his opponent sending Tundra through multiple trees in the distance. And just like that, the fight was over.

"Your style may be similar, but you are no Sub-Zero." Smoke stated

With that taken care of, Smoke continued his path to the item's location. He was certain that more Deathstrike ninja was in the area so he had to make haste. Leaping the branches of the tall trees Smoke increased his speed, it wasn't long before he reached a cave at the end.

Upon entering the cave, the Lin Kuei Grandmaster was met by skeletal remains of past intruders that served as a warning for those who dared trespass inside and were felled by the Lin Kuei's multiple hidden traps. Smoke made himself intangible and proceeded to move throughout the cavern. It was a large maze full of twists and turns. Large spiders congregated in large empty, spaces crawling up the walls spinning their webs. Smoke though still intangible accidentally stepped on a stone switch.

RUMBLE

"Hmmm." Smoke hummed

SNIK!

A fence of spears shot up with Smoke narrowly avoiding them, course he was trained to stay alert and mind his surroundings. The same couldn't be said for the poor soul that fell for the trap if the headless skeleton was an indication. Smoke jumped over it and continued on his way. Then a large wolf suddenly launched a surprise attack only for Smoke to dodge and fire a smoke a cloud killing it on impact.

He continued to move already knowing more traps were nearby since he and members of Liu Kang and Kung Lao's order help set them up centuries ago. He entered more twists and turns, keeping his focus on the path ahead.

After nearly twenty minutes of walking and avoiding more traps, he finally found himself at his goal. A large dark blue Chinese shrine at the end. Smoke spread out his arms and blasted out pillars of mists. Uncovering a slew of failsafe defensive mechanisms. Smoke made himself intangible again and passed through the defenses with ease, reaching the shrine. Opening the door, his eyes widened

"What no! The Talisman is gone!" gasped Smoke

"This isn't good, I have to inform Liu Kang and Kung Lao about this. The Talisman in the wrong hands could bring about total chaos and this is just one." Smoke said vanishing from this spot

(Sapporo Sindel's private training field)

Shinji with Sindel, Mileena, and Fumitain was in a large land owned by Sindel herself a few miles away from the manor. The field was congregated by squads of trainees. For someone who's lived for millennia, and who's collected scores of wealth throughout the centuries, she literally had enough forces to wage war on a small country.

Here she was overseeing the training of the latest batch of recruits. A large muscular African American woman with short black hair with an afro approached Sindel and Mileena and bowed respectfully to the pair.

"Lady Sindel, Lady Mileena, welcome." said the woman

"Ah Krone, how are the recruits today?" Sindel asked

"Progressing well, some show promise, others will be disciplined," Krone explained

" I see, I once again apologize for pulling you away from Kitana's side, we know she is still on edge after that assassination attempt," Sindel said

"I understand, you needed me to train future recruits, since you lost your head instructor, Freya," Krone spoke sadly

"Indeed, she was one of fiercest women in all of Asia. And I miss her dearly."

"As do I mother," Mileena added

Krone looked to see Shinji standing next to Sindel's assistant, and asked with a wide smile

"And who is this?" Krone asked

"My great-great Grandson Shinji, Shinji this is Krone, one of my elite bodyguards in service to our family." Sindel

"Please to meet you, Ms. Krone." Shinji bowed nervously a bit intimated by the larger woman. Even though he had met Sheeva

"Well you seem much more polite and respectful, than the other children, I've met" the large woman commented

"Indeed, now we would like to see your progress with the troops."

"Of course, follow me."

With that Krone lead the group down to the field, Shinji followed closely with Fumitan looking at all the young women dressed in martial arts Gi all following the same training patterns. Others were running military-style obstacle courses.

Few others were across a large lake in what appears to be an outdoor shooting range. Sindel was discussing with Krone the recent break-in at their home, how the security task force was on point during Kincaid's break-in, in which Krone replied had she been there, the maniac wouldn't have got close to the grounds.

That in which Sindel had no doubt of. Anymore conversation was interrupted when the sound of a large helicopter entering the airspace of the training field. The helicopter landed several feet away on a hillside, painted of the side was a symbol of a lotus.

The door opened and out stepped the Patriarch of the Kang clan himself, Liu Kang clad in a red and black business suit, sunglasses, and all. All the trainees stopped what they were doing, stood at attention, and bowed respectfully to the clan head.

"Fumitan, Mileena did either of know Liu was coming?" Sindel asked

"No my lady, I did not." replied her assistant

"I didn't either," Mileena added

"I see your elite squad is hard at training as always, mother." Liu Kang said approaching the quartet

"You know our ways, Son-in-law, we expect the best and we give the best," Sindel replied

"Hm. Hello Mileena, I heard you had trouble in Busan. Something about a casino fight, with an arms dealer." Liu addressed

Fumitan, Krone, and Sindel looked at the short-haired woman who looked away sheepishly.

"I told Kitana that in confidence," murmured Mileena

"Mileena," Sindel said in a scolding tone

"It wasn't my fault, I didn't start the fight by spilling a drink!" she whined

Liu merely chuckled in amusement as his eyes darted towards one of his great-grandsons, Shinji shifted slightly clutching Fumitan's dress a bit tightly and nervously. While he felt no ill intent coming from this man he also felt a sense of familiarity.

"Ah, little Shinji we meet again at last, of course, the last time I saw you, you were just an infant." Liu said with a jovial smile "My how big you're growing."

"Y-You're my great grandfather?" Shinji asked

"Yes, your mother Yui was one of my favorite great-grandchildren. Her passing devastated me your great-grandmother devasted us all. I already see much of her in you."

"Well, Liu what brings you by, aside from visiting little Shinji?" Sindel inquired

"Mostly to see Shinji but there is a matter of business to discuss regarding NERV, the organization run by you-know-who."

Sindel, Mileena, and Fumitan caught on to that while Krone and Shinji looked confused.

"Fumitan-"Sindel started to say

"No, " Liu interjected, "That business can be discussed later, right now I want some time with my great-great-grandson."

Sindel frowned for a bit while Shinji looked up to his great-great granny with a hopeful and pleading look, but she nodded feeling it would be good for him. Shinji quickly went over and took his hand and proceeded to set off. In a different direction to exit the field.

"Lady Sindel, should I-" Krone started to say

"No, Shinji is perfectly safe. None would dare cross the Dragon."

As Sindel said that the phone in Fumitan's front pocket vibrated. Looking at it she read a text and a frown crossed her features.

"Lady Sindel, Ms. Mileena, there's an emergency situation," Fumitan reported

"What?"

"One of the Talismans is missing."

(Undisclosed location )

In a building in the deep seedier places of Hong Kong, a trio consisting of a Chinese woman in her 40's wearing a black business suit. A large man of tall muscular build wearing overalls, and deformed Brazillian man with sharp pointed teeth. The three were walking in a corridor into a large office.

"It was all too easy, while the Deathsrike and Lin Kuei were at each other...throats we managed to swipe this!" said the woman with the smirk on her face holding up a blue emerald-shaped necklace.

"Yes, although it would be better if we killed one of them, Hu Li" spoke a deep gravelly voice

"That would have raised a red flag, and alerted both sides to our presence Baraka." said deep masculine voice coupled with large footsteps

"I'm aware of that Tan," Baraka replied to the larger man

"He will be pleased with our success, especially after what happened in Somalia." Hu Li said

"That was plenty fun, slaughtering those refugees and that militia was so fun," Baraka smirked

"Fun because you started it, we're just fortunate that the Black Dragons hadn't caught onto our last operation., yet."

The trio walked and talked for the next five minutes until they reached a large doorway, inside they could hear talking and whimpering from the inside, Hu Li cautiously opened the door to a vast bright beige and red office. There was an older-looking well dressed Chinese businessman with shoulder-length black hair wearing a long coat.

In front of the man was a disheveled man in his late 30's whimpering on his knees, before him. The trio knew what was about to happen, as the man remained deathly quiet, enjoying the sight of the other man's whimpering.

"You were behind schedule again Lai Sho, on the lastest ferry of weapons. That wastes time, and that costs money. And I don't like losing money or time." said the man said in a smooth but yet controlled angered tone of voice.

"I-I-I u-understand that sir- I" the man stuttered out

"Shhhh.." the man shushed " I also don't like being interrupted."

The man began to pace back and forth slowly and methodically, for dramatic effect. As he continued to talk.

"Lagging behind schedule shows weakness, it shows complacency to the competition. I was taught to never show weakness, of any kind to the competition." said the man

"By showing weakness, it emboldens the competition, it strengthens their resolve to take bolder steps. That is something I cannot have Lai Sho,"

"I-I-I swear to you sir, it won't happen again sir." Lai Sho assured

"Oh, I know, " the man said producing a handgun from his sleeve

BANG BANG BANG

Lai Sho fell down dead, with three bullets to the chest. The man's eyes darted to the current occupants that had just entered unshaken by what they had just seen.

The man merely went to sit at his desk while Hu Li stepped over the dead body, and produced the Talisman from her person, and placed it carefully on his desk.

"Were there any problems getting past the Lin Kuei and Deathstrike Clans?" asked the man getting the shake of the head no

"There was only one, the Lin Kuei Grandmaster himself." Hu Li replied

"Hmm..interesting he didn't send anyone else ?"

"No sir,"

"What about Deathstrike?"

"Just a few members, they were dispatched quickly, just long enough for us to sneak in and steal the Talisman," Tan replied

The man leaned back into his chair a little bit;

"Good, but don't get too confident, the Lin Kuei, are now on alert, as will be the Kang family." the man said

"But don't they have legal issues with their training halls?" Tan asked

"Oh yes, Baraka's handiwork," The man said making the deformed man smile "Right now it's got Master Lao all out sorts, which is advantageous for us."

"So what do we do now?" Tan asked, "Go after the other Talismans?"

"Yes, but before that Hui Li, I have an assignment for you," he said

"Yes sir," she said

"I need you to go to Germany, I have my eye on a scientist named Sohryu," he said

"Do you intend to recruit her?"

"Not yet, I just want you to keep an eye on her to see if she's as smart as the recently deceased Yui Kang." the man said

"At once," she said with a bow before leaving

"The rest you, make trouble for White lotus Industries, "

"Yes, sir." Tan and Baraka said departing

As they departed, a figure stepped through the side door nearby, spinning around his chair, he addressed his new visitor with a smile.

"Mr. Kane." the man addressed

"Mr. Shan." Kane addressed back

(With Liu Kang and Shinji)

Shinji and Liu Kang were traversing the neighboring village of Sapporo. Years ago When Second Impact occurred, Liu Kang, Kitana, and Sindel with the help of mystics and priestess fortified the large mountains surrounding the village. Since then the Kang clan had made it a point to preserve and restore the once populated city to its former glory.

Right now Liu Kang was regaling Shinji with tales of his childhood from a 'previous' life how he grew up an orphan with no family, with only the Shaolin Monks substituting as his family. How he was trained as a wandering martial artist, fighting and testing himself against many other martial artists around the world, Until eventually, he met his great grandmother and the love of his life Kitana, who tried to kill him on their first meeting.

Before Liu could tell any more stories, Liu Kang's phone went off interrupting him. Stopping to rest at a nearby lake, Liu answered the phone. While Shinji decided to go by the large duck-filled lake. The boy stuck his hand in the water attempting to catch a colorful fish, but they slipped out of his hand. Furrowing his brow, the little boy tried again, the same result, he tried again the same result. Shinji began to get frustrated as his hand suddenly began to feel warm under the cold water to his confusion.

"Huh?" went Shinji taking his hand out of the water

The young boy tried catching the fish again, this time he was met with some success as he took it out of the water, smiling he wanted to show his great grandfather until something peculiar happened. His little hand started to glow briefly again but this time the fish itself started to glow bright red. At this time Liu had just hung up the phone and saw Shinji down by the pond holding the glowing fish.

"By the Gods!" Liu gasped "Shinji!"

"Grandpa- Ow!" Shinji cried burning his hand dropping the glowing fish back into the water

BOOM!

A large stream of water burst out from the spot where Shinji dropped the fish. Shinji himself was soaked and startled but thankfully unharmed. Liu Kang knelt by his great grandson's side face full of concern.

"Shinji are, you alright? You're not hurt are you?" Liu asked full of concern

The boy shook his head in the negative, completely startled from what just occurred. Liu Kang looked at the water and back to his great-grandson again. Picking him up Liu said;

"Let's get you back to great-great granny," Liu said proceeding to walk back to Sindel's manor

'It was as I thought. Shinji's beginning to manifest his abilities, I'll need to begin his training right away.' thought Liu Kang
