Chapter Six

Death's Touch

WARNING: This chapter involves character death.

The Beasts were becoming a recurring threat after the incident. The problem wasn't that they were strong, the problem was that she didn't realise how many there were.

How many did Wrordak employ? Why did he hate the Mayor? How long has he been like this?

Whatever the answer was, The Magicat probably won't like it. All she knows is that the Beasts are up to no good, and that is her main concern right now.

The Magicat came across a security guard who was clearly injured.

"You're hurt--"

"I'm okay, but you gotta find Mr. Standish, fast. Those guys in the masks kidnapped him and forced him up to his place-- he lives in the penthouse. Top floor."

The Magicat could see incoming Beasts, ready to fight.

"Okay, sit tight." The Magicat said, before rushing into battle.

The Magicat jumped over the first goon, kicking the one behind him, then she clawed at another. One rushed to hit her, but she ducked down, letting him hit his comrade.

Then she kicked his chest, leaving him on his back. She turned to the next one, and she jumped onto him and swiped her claws at him. Another goon was about to hit her, but she dodged and did an uppercut.

She heard another one sneaking up on her, and she quickly clawed at him. Another one tried to kick her but she flipped and kicked him in the face. One of them grabbed onto her, but she flipped him over.

She grabbed onto another guy, and threw him against the wall. And then she jumped onto the next goons shoulders, spinning him around, then she twisted and slammed him into the ground.

"Alright boys, fun's over. For now."

The Magicat quickly went to find the hostage.

-

Once she made it, The Magicat could see some Beasts forcing who she believed to be Mr. Standish, to use his laptop. Whatever's on there is better kept out of the Beasts hands. And The Magicat could guess what it is.

She decided to ruin their little party, and slammed someone into the ground.

"It's time for an all-out brawl! If you can hit me, I'll give you a stronger kick to the face!"

The first Beast swung, only to get kicked, then she punched him in the jaw. Then she tackled the other guy and clawed at him. Someone came up from behind and kicked her off.

He tried hitting her again, but she rolled back and flipped over him. Once she was behind him, she grabbed around his neck and tossed him to the wall. She rushed to the next one and kicked him down.

"I'm confused, do you get paid to fight me, or get bruises?"

One of them tried to punch her, only to miss and get clawed in the face. She kicked the next one and threw another to his friend. The next guy, she slid under and swept him off his feet.

The Magicat punched the next guy, then she jumped onto someone and weighed him down. The last guy tried to hit her, but she grabbed him and threw him as hard as she could.

It appeared to be all of them, until a brute showed up.

"Just a warning. I'm the one with claws."

The Beast swiped for her, but she jumped out of the way. He made another swipe, with the same result. He rammed against her, knocking her on her back.

She quickly got back up, before he could stomp her head in, she jumped on top of him. Try as he might, he couldn't shake her off, even as she punched his head. Growing tired of her attacks, he grabbed onto her, and he threw her to the ground.

Before she got up, he swung his fist, and she flew back a few feet. This time, The Magicat was able to get back up.

"Be honest, do you hit hard because you get paid more, or because you hate me?"

He made another swing, but she ducked under, and hopped onto his back.

"I'm thinking it's 'cuz you hate me."

This time, she grabbed around his head, and weighed herself down. As he was getting up, she kicked his head. She tried for another kick, but jumped away as he swung his arm.

"I wanted to play nice, but after what you guys did, I'm not holding back!"

The Magicat used a flash spell, temporarily blinding him, and he staggered backwards. Before he could recover, she pounced, and slammed him into the ground, knocking him out.

Alright, this Standish guy was trapped behind closed doors? No problem!

SLASH*

"It's safe now. What were they after?" The Magicat asked him.

"Just-- financial records." Mr. Standish stuttered out.

"Really? About the Death's Touch?" She questioned.

"How do you know about that--?" Mr. Standish asked.

"Why do they want it?" She continued.

"I don't even know what it is. The Mayor's been pouring money into for years, but he keeps the whole project a secret. I'm the only one who has a record of it." He answered.

"Doesn't look like the case here, pal. They already copied some records to a secure server. Payroll information… on a Dr. Isaac Delaney. Who is he?" The Magicat asked.

"I honestly don't know."

Why were the Beasts after this? What is Wrordak doing this for? The Magicat had a feeling that she'd find out soon.

-

"Hey, Mermista." The Magicat greeted on her phone.

"You got something?" Mermista asked.

"Yeah, but these Hunters got a hold of Mr. Standish before I could get anything else. What's their deal?" She asked.

"They want to keep him quiet, no doubt." Mermista scoffed.

"Because he know about the Death's Touch." The Magicat said.

"Right. Whatever that is." Mermista moaned.

"I'm working on that! I think I just got a lead…" The Magicat replied.

"A lead? You sound like a cop…" Mermista said.

"That'd be the day, huh? When I finally join the force?" The Magicat joked.

"Please don't tell me you'd actually consider doing that?" Mermista groaned in displeasure.

"Relax. The day I get officiated, is the day the Legendary Defenders recruit me." The Magicat mused.

"Ugh, please. The day Voltron considers recruiting you, is the day I marry Sea Hawk." Mermista scoffed.

"…Okay, who is Sea Hawk?" The Magicat raised her ears in confusion.

"Just some guy I started dating." The Lieutenant told her.

"Ok, you have got to tell me more." The Magicat demanded.

BEEP!

Mermista hung up.

-

With a little research, The Magicat found out that Delaney was a professor, employed at Thaymor University. And she knew those Thaymor students liked to party.

Which is exactly the reason Hordak reconsidered working here. Hordak was one of the few people she looked up to, and not because he dreamt of making the world a better place. Because she knew, he was someone who actually cared.

He and Prime would always argue about what's better for the people. He was the kind of person that would give up their life, just to save another. Catra hoped that, at least that was true, now that she saw both, Wrordak, and Prime's true colors.

Anyways, back to the task at hand. The students of Thaymor love to party, which made studying here a little difficult. Catra could barely stand her old roommate, back when she was a student here. Whenever she went off campus, her roommate and her friend would always tag along... Of course, hanging out with a teacher was a little weird.

She didn't really hate being part of the Super Pal Trio, but she didn't want things to end up the way they did. Back when they found the Runestones, the Black Garnet, and the ones that Catra has, she had hoped that Scorpia and Entrapta wouldn't be so careless.

Even so, they had every chance to turn over a new leaf, but even Catra couldn't understand why they continued to be criminals. Well, Entrapta says that she does things in the name of science, but Scorpia has the exact opposite personality of past-Catra, even to this day.

If it weren't for them… there would be no Magicat.

Dang it! The Magicat was caught off guard, and now the Beasts got to him!

She shouldn't distract herself, thinking about what happened between the Super Pal Trio. She's got other things to worry about.

-

The Magicat decided to follow, and only intervene when absolutely necessary. If she tries anything now, things could go worse. The Beasts had brought him to a dark room, filled with more of them. What surprised her, was that Wrordak was here, in the flesh.

She hadn't seen him since the incident. She'd always seen him as a kind, and caring person. But now, she was afraid of him, even when she didn't want to be.

"You recently began working with someone at a Hordecorp lab." Wrordak said.

"H-how do you know about that?" The doctor asked.

"We don't have much time, Isaac. Tell me his name." Wrordak demanded.

To The Magicat's astonishment, Wrordak's eyes began to glow a bright green. He pulled out a small device, and forced it into the back of the doctor's neck. And to her horror, his eyes were the same as Wrordak's.

The Magicat jumped in, getting all of their attention. "Wrordak! Stop this!"

Wrordak didn't appear to be alarmed by this, but he did appear to be annoyed. He simply walked to her, which made her tense up. Without warning, he struck her, with inhuman strength. With The Magicat incapacitated, he continued.

"His name…"

Delaney gave in, and said, without any emotion in his voice. "Doctor Norwyn."

Once he got what he came for, Wrordak had no use for him. "Thank you."

The Magicat only had the strength to watch, even then, it was unbearable.

BANG!*

Wrordak left her to his men, she would only get in the way. The Magicat couldn't let him leave, not after what he had just done. She gathered all of her strength, and got up.

A Beast raised his gun, but before he could shoot, it was sliced in two. The next one met the same fate. They resorted to their fists, but they were no match to her fury.

The Magicat tossed the closest one to the wall, instantly knocking him out. The next one, she pounced into, and clawed his face. Another one approached to stop her, but she kicked him in the head.

She jumped behind another Beast, and wrapped her tail around his neck, pulling him down. She got up, then stomped on his head, knocking him out as well. The last guy started backing away, but she tackled him, and roared.

She stopped herself. They weren't worth it. He was already gone.

-

The Police were already on the scene, but they couldn't do anything now. The Magicat called someone that she could rely on.

"Mermista, I need your help." She said.

"There was a reported disturbance at Thaymor University--" Mermista was interrupted.

"I'll explain later. Right now you need to find a Dr. Norwyn. Wrordak's going after him." The Magicat told her.

"Copy that."

This place had a lot of good memories, and bad ones. But due to recent events, it just gave her bad feelings. It was clear now, Wrordak must be stopped before he kills again.

He's not the man she knew.

Another finished chapter! No doubt, there were a few surprises, even to me. When I started writing this, it seemed to be a pretty bland copy and paste of Marvel's Spider-Man, now I've found a good story to set it in. Also, slight Disclaimer, I do not own Voltron, but if you can tell, I'm gonna have to start another story once I'm finished with this one. It's gonna be like this, but with Voltron! Yay!

Also, I'm starting to like the history that I'm digging up here. Things are starting to flesh out a bit, and I could not be more proud of it. When I decided to write this story, I didn't intend for it to get this far, and I'm not even halfway done with it. Anyways, thanks for reading! Makes me happy to know, someone else has somewhat of an interest in what I'm writing!
