Hi Hearties! I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your lovely comments. If these stories bring you any sort of comfort and happiness then I have done my job :)
As promised, I have another short chapter/story for you today. I hope it makes you feel better after this Sunday's ending :(
P.S. I will forever be #TeamNathan and hope he will have many lovely storylines with Allie in season 9! :)
P.P.S. Please DO NOT comment anything negative about the cast, writers, characters or anyone else involved with the show. To quote Thumper from 'Bambi' "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all" ;)
Elizabeth's eyes fluttered open at the sound of footsteps near the bedroom door. She closed her eyes again as she took a deep breath and stretched her arms above her head. With her eye still closed, she reached one arm over to Nathan's side of the bed. She patted the area but couldn't find him. Her eyes quickly opened and confirmed that he was not there. She turned to her bedside table and checked the time. It's too early for him to have left for work, Elizabeth thought, confused. She threw the blanket from one side over to the other and sat upon the edge of the bed. Grabbing her robe, she stood up and put it on over her nightgown. As she walked towards the bedroom door she glanced in the mirror and smoothed her flyaways down before walking out into the hallway. As she walked down the stairs, she could smell breakfast cooking. As she looked over to the kitchen, she saw Nathan putting a cup of coffee on a tray next to a plate, and a vase with a couple of flowers.
"What are you doing?" Elizabeth asked flirtily.
Nathan quickly looked up in surprise. "I was going to surprise you with breakfast in bed." He answered with a smirk.
"Aww, that's so sweet!" Elizabeth said with a smile as she walked over to Nathan and hugged him from behind, resting her head against his back.
Nathan turned around and wrapped his wife in a strong hug. "Happy Anniversary," he whispered into her ear.
Elizabeth giggled, "Happy Anniversary," she reciprocated. She cupped his face in her hands and kissed him.
"I'm sorry if I woke you," Nathan said, still looking into her eyes.
"You didn't wake me. I just missed you." She responded, hugging him tighter.
Nathan smiled, "Well... I guess the breakfast in bed idea didn't work," He said, looking over at the tray on the table.
"We can have it on the couch. Besides, it's the thought that counts," Elizabeth said, smiling up at her husband.
Elizabeth picked the tray up from the table and set it down in front of the couch on the living room coffee table. Nathan followed her. Elizabeth sat down next to Nathan and pulled a blanket over their knees. Nathan put one arm around his wife's shoulders and kissed her cheek while giving her a gentle squeeze.
"Are the kids still asleep?" Nathan asked.
"Yes, they are," Elizabeth replied. She took a deep breath and rested her head on Nathan's shoulder. She took his free hand in hers and kissed it.
"I love you so much." She said looking up at him in admiration.
Nathan kissed her before reaching his free hand over to the small table near the couch and picking up a small handmade card. He gave the card to Elizabeth. Elizabeth blushed.
"What's this?" She asked with a giggle.
"Open it, and you'll find out," Nathan responded with a smile.
As she opened the little brown card, a small, red, pop-up heart unfolded in the centre. The heart said, To my one true love; know that I love you more than words can express. Thank you for enriching my life. I hope I make you as happy as you make me. - Love, Nathan. Behind the heart was a tiny black and white photo of their kids that Nathan got printed out for Elizabeth's locket. Elizabeth looked up at her husband with tears in her eyes.
"Oh, that's so sweet!" Elizabeth finally managed to say before hugging him again.
"Allie helped with the heart," Nathan explained.
Elizabeth laughed and kissed Nathan on the cheek. "I love it," she said with a big smile.
"I have something for you too," Elizabeth said. She quickly got up and ran over to the cupboards in the kitchen, Nathan following her with his eyes. Standing up on her toes she reached for the top shelf and pulled out a flat rectangular box. She walked back to the living room and sat down next to Nathan.
"Here," She held the box out in front of him.
Nathan looked at the box, up at Elizabeth, and then back down at the box before taking it from her. As he opened it, he saw a small stationary card on top of a folded piece of fabric. In gorgeous handwriting the card read, To my amazing husband; Thank you for loving me more than I ever thought possible. I am so thankful that God brought you into my life. From the bottom of my heart, I love you! P.S. congratulations - Love Elizabeth. Nathan looked up at Elizabeth with a perplexed expression. Elizabeth was smiling from ear to ear. Nathan moved the card from the top of the box and took out what looked like a little dress. His eyes widened, and a smile illuminated his face. Without thinking twice he stood up and enveloped his wife in a hug, lifting her off the ground. Elizabeth laughed and squeezed Nathan tightly.
"Are you serious?" He finally managed to say. His heart was beating out of his chest.
"Yes!" Elizabeth said laughing and nodding her head.
At that moment, they heard footsteps upstairs.
"The kids are definitely awake now," Elizabeth commented with a laugh.
Still in each other's arms, Elizabeth and Nathan looked over to the stairs where Allie was helping little Jack walk down.
"What's happening?" Allie asked curiously when she and Jack reached the bottom of the stairs.
"You are going to have a new little brother or sister," Nathan responded, as Elizabeth held out the little outfit.
Allie squealed to high heaven before running over to Elizabeth and hugging her tightly around the waist. Not too tight though, she didn't want to hurt the baby. Little Jack ran over to Nathan reaching his arms up. Nathan picked him up and kissed him on the cheek. Wrapping his free arm around Elizabeth, he hugged her from the side and kissed her on the cheek. Jack reached over to his mother and climbed into her arms.
What was once two small families had now become one big family. Allie was ecstatic that she would now have another little brother or sister (though she hoped for a sister). Jack just smiled because everyone around him was happy. Nathan and Elizabeth could not have asked for a better anniversary, for the best gifts they could have ever received were LOVE, HAPPINESS and FAMILY. Elizabeth soaked in the moment. Just a few years ago, she never could have imagined such happiness.
I will admit, this chapter was hard for me to write just because I loved the idea of the Grant family so much (I also started this fanfic before watching the finale), and it hurts my little #TeamNathan heart that we won't see it on screen. The Grant Family will forever live in my heart, and in our imaginations!
