Chapter 7: The Last Emerald

Sonic and Tails were shocked to see Shadow, someone who rarely collaborated with anyone, casually join the small alliance to take down Mauve. Especially since he came because of what Dr. Eggman of all people was doing.

"So Shadow, what brings you here?"

"First off, I have this Chaos Emerald." Shadow showed the other two the green emerald. "And I've already had a run-in with the purple blob. He sent me down into a fissure and I popped out in a random fissure."

Tails was astonished. "Wait, so you're telling me that Mauve can open fissures in the ground?!"

Shadow's expression didn't change, but his tone did. "Mauve? Mauve? That is such a stupid name to give to a powerful being!"

"That's what I said," Dr. Eggman chimed in.

"It wasn't me who named it, it was Amy who did," Tails retorted.

Sonic spoke up. "The name doesn't matter. What does matter is protecting that Chaos Emerald from his grubby hands…body…whatever they are. Mauve is only one emerald away from having them all. We need to protect it at all costs."

"What thing?" asked a familiar-sounding voice. The four turned around and screamed, as Mauve was somehow in the same room as them.

"Guys, we need to run, NOW!"

The four scattered in various directions. However, the Chaos Emeralds inside Mauve had the power to show them exactly where the last emerald was.

Sonic was hot on his feet, holding the green Chaos Emerald.

"Hah. That silly Mauve will never catch up to me!"

Except, he somehow was! Even though Sonic was going at least 500 miles per hour, Mauve was gaining on him. Sonic spots Tails flying a few feet from him.

"Hey Tails, take this and veer away from the city!"

Sonic throws the emerald up into the air, and the fox catches it.

"I got it, Sonic! Here I go!"

Tails had just exited the city.

"Wow, I can't believe Mauve hasn't caught up with me yet."

In the sky in front of Tails, Mauve was descending rapidly.

"Uh oh."

Tails veered off to the side, and due to Mauve's ridiculous flying speed, they just missed him.

"Hey Eggman," Tails spots Eggman in his hovercraft further to the left. "Catch this."

Tails chucks the emerald to Eggman, which he fumbles with in his hands after he catches it.

Tails gave a thumbs up and flies off back into the city to catch up with Sonic.

Eggman grumbles, "When these events are all over, I'll go back to my lair and devise more plans to ridicule Sonic the Hedgehog."

Eggman was just floating along when Mauve caught up to him on his left.

"Hey doctor, what's up," Mauve spoke in a cocky tone.

"Since when did you get so cocky, purple blob?"

"Must be these emeralds. Anyway, I would like for you to conjure up that emerald and transfer it to me."

"No, instead I'll just give it too…SHADOW!"

Eggman spots Shadow running off to the right and chucks it at him. Shadow catches it without looking.

"Hey doctor," yelled Shadow, "You need to work on your pitching skills."

"JUST SHUT UP AND RUN, HEDGEHOG!"

Shadow had skated for at least five miles by this point, with no sign of Mauve anywhere.

"That Chaos-imposter must have given up. Well, all that's left to do is to return home with me and my…WHAT?!"

There they were. Mauve was standing up ahead, an eight-foot-tall purple blob with six Chaos Emeralds inside of him, large wings, and muscular arms and legs, blocking Shadow's only path.

Shadow had an ingenious plan. He would use Chaos Control to freeze Mauve and take all the emeralds out of their body. He held up the emerald proudly and let its energy seep through his body.

"Chaos…"

"…CONTROL!"

Shadow froze in place, mid-skate. Mauve was the one who performed the Chaos Control.

They calmly strutted over to Shadow and plucked the emerald out of his frozen hand. Then, they placed the emerald inside of them.

A beam of light burst out of Mauve's body, visible for hundreds of miles.

"NO!" yelled Sonic, Tails, and Eggman in unison. Shadow would have joined in, if he wasn't frozen in place due to Chaos Control.
