Chapter 7: Intensions Revealed
We flew for what seemed like hours and even though I was still scared shitless, I composed myself enough to try and wriggle free of this thing's iron grip. We were high above the ground, but I wasn't afraid of heights, since I could fly, and I just wanted to get free and back to my family. I started to struggle in its grip, trying to get any sort of leverage, but it was proving to be difficult. It seemed to barely notice my efforts, but I sensed it was keeping its eye on me. I struggle and kick my legs out in an attempt to hit him, but the way he held me made it impossible to do that. Since I couldn't kick him, I just continued to wiggle as much as I could. He eventually got tired of my struggles and made it clear by growling and baring his teeth in my face. This made me cease all my struggles and renewed my fear. Apparently satisfied that I got the message, he continued to fly to god knows where and what I thought was going to be my tomb.
Soon we arrived at an old, run-down factory. Still clutching me to his chest, he pulled me into the factory and through the corridors. I tried to dig my feet into the ground, but he was too strong and just hauled me through the factory. He was moving so fast, that I couldn't get my thoughts together to map out an escape route. He dragged me passed so many doors and rooms that I lost track and was only able to focus on the door he stopped in front of. It had a large locking mechanism that covered the entire door and was covered in cobwebs, indicating that he did not use this door much if at all. He unwrapped the arm around my stomach and began to unlock and open the door while still holding me with the arm around my neck. I wanted to make a break for it since he was now only holding me with one arm, but one evil glare from him put a stop to that very quickly. He opened the door, and it made a loud screeching sound, like a bulkhead on a ship. As the door opened, I saw that the room behind it was big, but seemed to be nothing more than a storage room and the door looked like it was only able to be opened from the outside. After taking a small look around the room, I suddenly realized what he was going to do.
"NO! I'm not going in there!" I shouted.
The creature just grinned, chuckled a little, and started to walk into the room with me in tow.
"NO! You will not keep me here!" I screamed, desperately.
The monster paid me no mind and just released my neck, grabbed my shoulders, and threw me the rest of the way into the room. I hit the back wall and was stunned. Before I could get up, I saw him slam the door shut, incasing me in darkness, and the sound of a large lock click. I was now trapped in this room with no way out. I got to my feet and started to pace the room; no windows, no other doors, and no vents big enough for me to crawl out of. There were no decaying spots for me to rip open either and I came to the, horrible, realization that I was not going anywhere for a good long while. I still didn't know what this creature wanted from me and I was getting more anxious. I saw him kill his victims and then eat what he wanted, but for some reason he decided to throw me into this inescapable room. 'What the hell does he want?' I thought. I just couldn't come to any reason he would throw me in here and just leave so I put my hand on the wall and followed it to a corner, slid down, brought my knees to my chest, and cried.
"Trish… Darry… please help me." I said between sobs.
~Back at the Police Station~
Trish and Darry were in hysterics as they watched their little sister be snatched away. They couldn't believe she was gone in a matter of seconds. Darry held Trish as she wept, he was crying too but wanted to stay strong for Trish. The officers that tried to help them were still in shock at what they just witnessed, but who could blame them? They had just seen a demonic looking creature snatch a young girl away from her family and disappear into the night in a matter of seconds. A couple of the officers were doing their best to comfort the two siblings, but it was failing.
"Hey now, everything is going to be all right." One cop said.
"No, it's not. Our sister was just kidnapped and you're trying to tell us everything is going to be all right!" Trish all but shouted.
"I'm sorry, I know this is hard. I just wanted to know if I could help." He said.
"Unless you can get our sister back, there is nothing you can do that can help us right now!" Trish sobbed, uncontrollably and angry.
The cop backed off and decided to give the siblings some space. They were escorted back inside the building to calm themselves. After the two were out of sight, sergeant Tubbs looked around at all of his, very, confused officers. He had seen many things in his career, but this was something else. Break-ins, robberies, grand theft auto, and other things he could deal with, but a winged demon that eats people was not something he was prepared to deal with. He had heard the rumors about a monster that flew around abducting people so that it could eat parts of them, but, until now, thought that's all they were, rumors. He had no idea what he was going to do now, he had a kidnapped girl to find and a pair of siblings to console.
What the monster left behind in its wake was nothing but a nightmare on four wheels. Aside from the shattered window, it left its monstrous truck in the parking lot. A squad of officers were crowded around it, as if it would just drive off on its own. They were trying to get the doors open to see if there was anyone inside that was still alive. After a few minutes, the doors finally flew open revealing a horrific sight. There were bodies wrapped in sheets on the floor and a multitude of weapons covering both sides. Some of the men looked like they were about to vomit while others just looked horrified. The smell coming from the truck was almost unbearable, to the point where many of the men had to step away to catch a breath of fresh air.
"It's like a goddamn slaughterhouse on wheels." One officer said while cringing.
"Go get the sergeant." The team leader commanded.
The cop moved quickly to find his sergeant. Finding him talking with some of the other officers that were the first to engage the creature.
"Sergeant! We got the truck open." He said.
Tubbs followed the man back to the truck only to be greeted by a grisly scene. He shined his flashlight all over the back and cab of the truck and was startled when his light revealed a police scanner in the dash. Now seeing that the creature had been listening to them the whole time, made everyone present shiver. That must have been the reason that the thing went so long without being discovered by everyone; that and the fact that it most likely killed any witnesses that got too close. One officer shined his light on some of the "décor" and was visibly shaken, even commenting that he didn't want to know what that stuff was made out of. Another officer noticed rolls of twine toward the front and realized that it was sewing twine.
"Those are for sewin'…. I don't wanna know for what." He said lifting his arm and gesturing with his thumb. In that same moment, two sets of sharp spikes shot out from the top and bottom door frames, like a set of teeth chomping down. They pinned the unfortunate man in place while everyone around him panicked and tried to get him free. They tore the flesh on his arm a bit but, thankfully, not completely through. And as quickly as they came down, the spikes receded back into the truck, releasing the officer who had to be carried off to the nearest ambulance.
"Get this thing outta here!" Tubbs commanded.
The doors to the truck then shut by themselves, freaking everyone out even more. Tubbs just stood there, still not believing what he just saw, but now was not the time to lose his cool. He was about to head back inside to check on the brother and sister, when a line of police cars pulled in.
~With Trish and Darry~
"Why her… why her?" Trish sobbed into Darry's chest.
"I don't know. I thought it was going to take me. It acted like it wanted my eyes." Darry said while rubbing Trish's back.
"But… it tossed you aside and took her. What could it possibly… want from her?" Trish said, calming down.
"I think I know." A familiar voice said.
Trish and Darry looked up to see Jezelle. They weren't particularly happy to see her but wanted to hear what she had to say. She looked sad and ashamed of herself, probably for not telling them everything in the first place. She walked up to them and sat down; there was a moment of silence before she finally spoke up.
"I believe I know the reason it took your sister." Jezelle said uneasily.
"Why… why did it take her?" Darry asked.
"I had actually believed that it was you who would be taken, Trish. But now that I have looked back on my dream, I see that it was indeed Karen. It was so obvious, but I chose to misinterpret the dream's meaning. Please don't be alarmed, but I do know that Karen is your adopted sister and that she is not human." Jezelle explained. Trish and Darry looked startled but figured that she saw it in her dream.
She proceeded to tell Trish and Darry what she saw in her dream and they were both shocked. In one of her dreams, Karen had been locked in a dark room with no way to escape, crying for her brother and sister. In another dream, Karen was running through a large field while repeatedly looking behind and above her only to run into a shadowy figure and fall to the ground. She was flying through the air and weaving through trees, trying to get away from whatever was chasing her. Jezelle paused for a moment, trying to compose herself to tell the rest of the story. The final dream was much more sinister. It featured Karen tied to a table, crying, and struggling to get free, Jeepers Creepers playing softly in the background. She was kicking and screaming, but everything was shrouded in darkness so Jezelle could not tell what was going on. At first, Jezelle thought that Karen was about to die, seeing as she had seen many people die on that table in her dreams.
"What do you mean you 'thought' Karen was about to die?" Trish interrupted.
Jezelle was silent for a moment, as if choosing her response carefully.
"Well… when I saw her strapped down to that table, I thought that there were no other possibilities of what would happen. I never imagined that it would want to do something like that… I… I simply refused to believe it."
"What! What does it want from her!" Trish and Darry yell rather loudly.
~Back with Karen~
I don't know how long I was sitting there, but my tears had stopped, and I had somehow fallen into a light sleep. I dreamed of my family and all the good times we had, for I believed that my life was about to end. I was deeply saddened by the fact that I never got to say goodbye or that I loved all of them, but I guess that's the only downside of not knowing when you're going to die. I woke myself up so as not to be surprised if the monster came back.
'No, I'm not going to give up.' I sternly told myself. I was going to escape or die trying. The first thing was to find a way out of this room. The cracks in the ceiling and walls were too small and there was no way to make them bigger. The vents were also to small for me to squeeze into and that I had no way of navigating them. The only other possibility was the main door. I looked up at it and examined it. It was too heavy for me to open on my own and I didn't have any tools to take it apart. I knew that my only option was to wait until the monster came back and opened the door. I would need to time it just right so I could run past him while he was still opening the door before, he realizes what happened.
Unfortunately, I was not prepared for him to return in that moment. Once I heard the sound of the door being forced open, I knew it was now or never. I approached the side of the door and waited. He opened it slowly, as if anticipating my actions and that's exactly what he was doing. As soon as the door was open enough and he stepped through I bolted. He was quick however and grabbed my foot before I made it completely out. I was stopped midair and fell to the floor. He dragged me back into the room but didn't let go if anything his grip became tighter. I clawed at the ground trying to get away, but it was proving to be futile as he easily pulled me under him. Once I was beneath him, he released my foot and straddled me. I tried to fight back but he grabbed my arms and forced them down while screeching in my face; this made my fear return and when I saw the grin on his face, I became even more afraid.
The look he gave me was one of victory, admiration, and something unfamiliar to me. It got even more uncomfortable when he leaned his head down and started rubbing his head against mine and purring? 'Is this thing seriously purring?' I thought. It seriously sounded like a large cat and when he decided to lick my cheek again, I just wanted to disappear.
'Why isn't he killing me? And why does he look like he just won a trophy?' I asked myself. I was completely baffled at this thing's actions and then began to think and when I did, it became all too clear.
First, it chose me over Darry. Second, it did not kill me outright. Third, the expression on his face when he looked at me. And lastly, his weird behavior towards me at this moment.
All this pointed to one frightening conclusion.
~Back with Trish and Darry~
"It wants to mate with her." Jezelle said, sadly.
