Rise of the Negaduck!

Chapter 7

Seeing these new reviews really made me feel happy, guys. While a part of me is sad that the show is over, another part is really glad that I get to stretch my imagination during this depressing time. But things seem to be looking up, what with this new vaccine (which I am getting tomorrow!). I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to those of you that have been following along and reviewing every chapter. I get so excited whenever I see a notification that a new review has been posted. You guys rock.

Alright, enough sentimental stuff. Let's. Get. DANGEROUS.

Launchpad could barely contain the smile on his face as he steered the Thunderquack to the godly island. Storkules beamed and waved at the approaching ship.

"Hello, friends of Donald!" his mighty voice boomed as Launchpad, Darkwing and Gosalyn came down the ramp. "I, Storkules, am honored to welcome you to Ithaquack!"

"Wow!" Gosalyn exclaimed, awestruck. "The island of the gods! Oh, this is so cool."

"Hey there, Storkules!" said Launchpad. "Ya know, the last time I was here was when Mr. McD was having that epic battle with your dad and I was trying to fix the plane."

"No!"

They all turned to see Zeus approaching them with his arms folded across his chest.

"Son, I agreed that your friend's compatriots could come here, so long as no one mentioned the name Scrooge McDuck!"

His eyebrows raised as he caught sight of Darkwing.

"Who is the bozo in the cape?"

Darkwing threw down a smoke pellet and disappeared under its cover.

"I am the terror that flaps in the night!" came his voice from afar.

"Ooh, I love it when he does this!" Launchpad said quietly while bouncing up and down.

"I am the dog-eared page in the-"

Zeus rolled his eyes and summoned a lightning bolt, finding Darkwing within the smoke and striking him with it.

"Yes, charmed", he said boredly as Darkwing shook his head. "Daughter?"

Selene, the goddess of the moon, materialized in front of them.

"Yes, Father?" she said in her calming voice.

"Keep an eye on the little one while I escort these two gentlemen to the...weapon."

"No way!" Gosalyn said, suddenly upset. "The only reason we're here is to find my grandpa, so I should see whatever they get to see!"

"The spirited youngling has a point, Father", said Selene. "She reminds me of those charming nephews of-"

"Don't say it!" Zeus warned as the sky turned dark and lightning struck behind the clouds.

Selene made a motion of zipping her lips and smiled.

"Come, adventurers!" Storkules said, leading the group down the beach. "The item you seek is just ahead."

"Hey, where's Gizmoduck?" said Launchpad.

"Ah, yes, your robotic friend", said Zeus. "We will meet with him shortly."

"Great, he's already here", muttered Darkwing, who had wanted to beat Gizmoduck to the island.

Fenton, out of his suit for the moment, scratched his chin as he stared at the Ramrod.

"Hmm", he said to himself. "Bradford was able to convert this extraordinary machine into a weapon of his own design. According to my calculations, in order to duplicate his methods, I'll need some help from-"

"Greetings, young scientist!" Storkules said as he approached with Launchpad, Darkwing and Gosalyn. "I have brought your friends to assist in your quest."

Zeus mockingly made a show of presenting them with his hands.

"Do try not to break anything while you're here", he said without a hint of enthusiasm in his voice. "I'll leave you to it."

He disappeared in a bolt of lightning.

"Sheesh!" said Darkwing. "I thought he'd never leave. That guy was a real downer!"

"Tell me about it", Selene, Storkules and Gosalyn said simultaneously.

"Ah!" said Fenton. "I'm glad you're here; you're just in time to help me get started on reverse-engineering this machine for its original purpose."

"Except without the potential to destroy the world", Gosalyn said.

"Exactly."

"Alright", said Darkwing, cracking his knuckles. "Let's get dangerous."

"So the first step is to remove the bypass unit, located within the device's internal mechanisms", said Fenton. "In other words, we need to crash the hard drive."

"When it comes to crashing", said Launchpad, getting a running start, "I'm the hero you need."

He raced at the Ramrod. BAM! He struck headfirst, causing a side panel to open. Inside was a tiny red jewel, which he plucked out and handed to Fenton.

"Ha, excellent!" said Fenton. "Well done, my friend. Next, we'll need to fix that panel."

Gosalyn whipped out a screwdriver from the pocket of her hoodie and quickly screwed it back into place.

"You keep a screwdriver in your hoodie?" Darkwing said quizzically.

"Who else do you think helps fix the Thunderquack every time Launchpad crashes it?" she responded, and Darkwing nodded.

"Now that we've restored the machine", said Fenton, "we'll need to reprogram it to open up portals within a certain radius. This part, I can do myself...but you might want to stand back."

Darkwing and Gosalyn eyed the bulky duffel bag beside them and took a few steps back.

"Blathering blatherskite!" Fenton cried, and the duffel bag sprang to life.

"Whoa!"

Launchpad ducked as the suit flew over his head and formed on Fenton's body, who set to work.

"Let's see: Input, Reset Frequency, Override Functions...got it!"

The machine beeped as new coordinates were set, and Fenton got out of the suit once more.

"Now the last thing is to jump start the machine, perhaps with some lightning?"

He and Storkules turned to Zeus, who was sitting on his throne just a few feet away.

"Must I be a part of this?" he said.

"Participation is key, if you'd like us to leave your island faster", said Fenton.

"I've decided to help you."

Zeus summoned a lightning bolt from the sky and aimed it at the machine, which sprang to life immediately after it was hit.

"Haha, we've done it!" said Fenton. "Now, Ms. Waddlemeyer, I'll just need a sampling of your DNA."

Gosalyn raised an eyebrow.

"A strand of hair?"

"Oh; why didn't you say so?"

She winced as she plucked a hair from her head and handed it to Fenton.

"Alright, here we go; keep your feathers crossed!"

He turned the key on the Ramrod and a red portal opened. Fenton carefully approached the portal and dropped Goslayn's hair inside. The machine whirred and everyone watched the screen as Gosalyn's DNA traveled through each dimension at rapid speed. Gosalyn gasped as the machine started to beep.

"Grandpa?"

The screen changed to an older-looking gentleman sitting on a park bench in what appeared to be a colorful forest behind him. He was staring down at a photo in his lap. The man sighed and looked around sadly.

"Grandpa!" Gosalyn said, touching her hand to the screen. "Grandpa, it's me, Gosalyn! Don't worry, we'll get you out!"

"That we shall!" said Fenton, and started typing codes into the Ramrod's keyboard.

Just then, a black portal opened behind the old man. As he turned to see what was going on, the screen went white. Gosalyn got as close to the portal as she could without being sucked in, anxious to be reunited with her grandfather.

"I think that should do it", Fenton said, holding his fingers just above the keyboard.

The portal began to shake, and a figure's foot emerged. Darkwing looked down at Gosalyn as she squirmed with excitement. Launchpad stared in awe at what was unfolding before him as Storkules hugged his sister.

"Oh, what a stupendous reunion we are about to witness!" he said.

But as another foot emerged, everyone's smiles faded. A tattered red hat was next to appear, followed by a billowing black cape.

"No", Darkwing breathed.

"It can't be!" said Launchpad.

"Grandpa?" Gosalyn said fearfully.

"What horror is this?!" said Storkules.

The smirking face of Negaduck emerged from the portal, cackling like a maniac.

"Hello, heroes", he said in a dark voice as the rest of his body emerged. "Miss me?"

Ooh, where will things go from here? I guess you'll have to keep reading to find out! I'd write more, but I've got a big day tomorrow, and I am EXHAUSTED. I promise I won't keep you in the dark too long, see you later!
