CHAPTER EIGHT
Remembering my promise to Doctor Weir after about three hours I left John and Tayla who was quickly on her way to becoming my best friend, and went to find Doctor Weir. After finding her we went for a walk so we could talk in privacy.
"So what all have you learned about this place?" Doctor Weir asked curiously as we walked slowly down the hallways.
"Enough to know that I should definitely begin working on a multitude of things, not the least of which is the handmade weapons that the Ancients took with them when they went to a new world." I told her.
"Okay that sounds good I'll get a team to work with you-why are you shaking your head?" Doctor Weir asked and I immediately spoke up.
" I want to work on things alone, the reason being the Ancient that possessed me has decided to help me and I don't want to have to stop and explain things to anyone else who is with me constantly when I don't know how long she'll be around." I said, fibbing the last part because I knew she was going to be around for as long as I lived most likely however I didn't want anyone to distract me from what I was going to be working on.
"I don't know Randy, that doesn't sound safe." Doctor Weir said, sounding unconvinced.
"All I need to do is complete one thing with her help and then I know how to do it and can pass that knowledge off to you and you can get it to whichever group of people you think can best handle it. However I need to be able to fully focus on one thing at a time, not having to stop and explain things or worse yet having to be watched the entire time. Being watched like that gives me the creeps and it's hard for me to focus on my work." I told her honestly.
"That still doesn't sound entirely safe but as long as you come see me physically once a day and keep me updated on your progress I'll allow it for now." Doctor Weir said after a few minutes of silence while she thought about it.
"Thank you. I promise I'll make sure all the notes are highly detailed on what to do, when to do it and how to do it." I told her feeling relieved that she had agreed.
"Before you start anything though can you tell me if there's anyone living here? Also is there any way you can help us find rooms for everyone? With all of the Athosians coming as well and some of the city being flooded and the security team not being able to search the entire place we're all a bit on edge." Doctor Weir said stopping me from leaving.
Thinking about what 'Yoda' had told me I realized there were still some living creatures in Atlantis but they were all locked up at the moment. Finding rooms for everyone would be easy though.
"There are other living things here in Atlantis but they are all locked up at the moment so unless someone accidentally or purposefully releases them there's nothing to worry about. As for rooms there are around four hundred living compartments that can be reached through the transporter in this building alone. They all can be reached by walking. I can draw up map layouts of each floor in this building if you want." I offered after a few minutes of deep thought.
"Yes, thank you." Doctor Weir replied sounding relieved, nodding I motioned for her to follow me and walked to my room so I could use my sketchbook and make the layouts I had said about.
Getting to my room I waved my hand over the door sensor and the door slid open, walking in I motioned for Doctor Weir to follow me inside as I headed straight for my duffle bags. Unzipping the correct duffle bag I dumped it's contents on my bed and began to draw the layouts of the buildings rooms.
Not wanting anyone to get confused when looking at the layout I made sure to write on the paper which way it was supposed to looked at so no one accidentally flipped it upside down. Looking over the papers again to make sure they were all correct I nodded and handed them over to Doctor Weir who had been silently looking around my room.
"Thank you. When are you planning on getting started on the weapons?" Doctor Weir asked as she took the layouts and began to look them over.
"Well since I've already gotten to sleep I'm going to fix up my room here and then I'll have to make sure that I have everything I need before going to the...you know actually thinking about this realistically I probably won't be able to do a daily check-in." I said as I thought about it, realizing that I couldn't honestly say how long learning things would take me.
"I don't feel comfortable having you go out somewhere alone for so long especially in a place that we don't know that well and you're not a soldier or, no offence, a rocket scientist or anyone with a degree in engineering." Doctor Weir said.
"Look Doctor Weir I know you want to keep me safe but honestly I'm probably going to be the most safe one here because I have direct contact with an Ancient. I'll be fine but I need to figure out how to do as much as possible with the Ancient while she's still here. I'll probably lose track of time a lot but I'm sure you'll see glimpses of me when I come out to eat-that reminds me, I need to ask her if they had a greenhouse…"
"Randy?" Doctor Weir's voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I looked back up in surprise.
"Sorry what?" I asked, forgetting what we had been talking about.
"I get your point, just keep your comm on you and contact me directly if you need us. I'll leave you to it." Doctor Weir said.
Honestly I was surprised she was agreeing with me but I wasn't going to push my luck so I just nodded and quickly ushered her out of my room. Waving her off before turning back into my room and then realizing I felt a mental presence.
