Thanks to the herbal drink that McCoy had given him, Scotty was doing much better but he still wasn't back to normal. Their monkey friend had taken quite the liking to McCoy since it was now sitting in the Doctor's lap, McCoy was quite surprised by this since anything to do with nature normally hated him. Exhibit A: the plant that attacked him earlier. "How you feeling now Scotty?" McCoy asked, "Much better now, thanks." Scotty replied as he slowly went to sit up. "Um, excuse me? What do you think you're doing?" "Getting back to work." McCoy quickly forced Scotty to lay back down, "Oh no, you're not going anywhere." Scotty sighed quietly and muttered something under his breath. "I heard that."

McCoy said cheerfully as he removed the cloth from the Scotsman's forehead before soaking it in water once more, "I can't just lay here Leonard, I've got work to do." McCoy glared at him as he placed the cloth back on Scotty's forehead. "It can wait for a bit, we ain't going anywhere so just take it easy." Scotty simply smiled at him before McCoy looked down at his seemingly new pet, despite not liking animals that much he had slowly started to like the little guy. "Is it in some sort of Engineering code to not listen to Doctors?" McCoy joked as he stroked the monkey on the head, suddenly Scotty jolted up scaring not only McCoy but the monkey too, who quickly ran off. "Bloody hell! You trying to kill me!" McCoy yelled angrily, "Leonard, you're a bloody genius!" Scotty cried. "No I'm a Doctor, but I'll take that as a compliment. Hey what are you doing?!"

McCoy just watched as Scotty scrambled over to the communicator he had been working on and began to fiddle around with it once more, this time McCoy could hear faint bleeping coming from it. "Scotty, what are you doing?" "Sending a message to the Enterprise." Scotty replied, not even bothering to turn round. McCoy was now even more confused, "In what way is creating bleeping noises a message?" Scotty looked away from the device for a moment and smiled at McCoy. "Its not just bleeping Doc, its morse code." McCoy just blinked, "I wasn't aware you knew that?" Scotty chuckled.

"To be honest, I forgot I knew it myself, that was until you joked about the Engineering code. Which is real by the way." He then looked back and sent his message again, "/-/" which reads: "SOS" McCoy was also smiling now. "That's bloody brilliant Scotty, Jim should have no trouble understanding that. Well I bloody hope he understands it." Scotty laughed, "Don't worry, he has Spock. I'm sure he'll understand it if Jimbo doesn't." Scotty soon finished sending the distress signal before the two of them sat back down, leaning against the cave wall. "All we do now is wait." Scotty stated as he stretched out his injured leg, "You mean like we've been doing for the past god knows how many hours?" McCoy replied. The two of them exchanged a look before laughing, they knew it wouldn't be too long, that's what they hoped anyway.

"How's the leg feeling?" McCoy asked as he watched Scotty rub it gently, "Still kills but it's better than it was before, whatever you gave me seems to have worked." McCoy smiled. "How did you know they would work? Those plants I mean." "You're not the only one who learnt a few handy skills as a kid, my father taught me about plants which had the same medical effects as certain drugs, you can find most of them in jungle like places so it was a lucky find really." Scotty smiled as he placed a hand on McCoy's shoulder, "Didn't see you as the nature type?" "I'm not by any stretch of the imagination, have you seen what plants do to me?" Scotty couldn't help but chuckle, he had lost count of the times McCoy had almost been eaten by plants or animals for that matter.
