SASUKE UCHIHA
"What the hell is he doing?" Suigetsu asked, terrified.
"I'm not sure," Juugo answered, not believing his own eyes.
"I don't care," Karin giggled dreamily, a dopey grin on her face.
From their perch on the island counter, the trio watched Sasuke as he weaved around the kitchen, gathering ingredients and making a meal. If there's one thing they had been sure about until that very moment, is that Sasuke did not know how to cook, let alone make anything that didn't involve a coffee machine. But here they were, witnessing something that they were sure they would only see in the depths of their dreams. Of course, this moment could only get weirder with Sasuke singing along to the background music, that was Sweetest Taboo by Sade. It was eyeopening for Juugo, made spiders crawl up Suigetsu's spine, and all but charged up Karin's engines to jump Sasuke's bones.
"Sasuke," Suigetsu gulped, rubbing his arms slowly, "I thought we were having breakfast?"
"We are," Sasuke answered.
"Yeah, outside," Suigetsu clarified, "You know, at a restaurant or cafe or something"
"Why bother when I'm making a perfectly healthy breakfast?"
"Yeah Suigetsu," Karin cut in, "let him make the perfectly healthy breakfast"
"Does this even make any sense!" Suigetsu shouted, jumping up from his seat, "I've never seen you cook, Sasuke! Are you even qualified to be in a kitchen or near a stove?"
"Feel free to walk out the door if you don't want to taste my cooking," Sasuke stated.
Suigetsu huffed and slumped back down on his seat. It wasn't long before Sasuke served their food on the island counter-top. Before the trio was various dishes of food, rolled omelettes, rice, sliced sausages, miso soup and grilled vegetables.
"Here's a classic Japanese breakfast. Dig in," Sasuke said. Suigetsu stared at his food solemnly.
"You know, this food doesn't look too bad," Suigetsu began, "but pretty food can be poisonous too"
"Just shut up and eat," Karin hissed, smacking Suigetsu's head before digging into her own food. Karin put her spoon down, her face flush with ecstasy as she treasured the taste of the food.
"Sasuke-kun, I can't believe you made such delicious food," she praised.
Sasuke smirked as he ate his own food, "Hn"
Suigetsu looked sceptical but took a bite of a rolled omelette. But as he ate, with the flavours bursting into his mouth, Suigetsu's eyes widened, staring unbelievably at the food and at Sasuke.
"Are you sure you're Sasuke Uchiha? Son of Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha?" Suigetsu asked, taking more bites of his food.
"Are you an idiot?" Sasuke retorted.
"How do you know to cook?" Suigetsu spluttered, "How is that even humanly possible"
"I just learned like everyone else," Sasuke answered.
"Well it would certainly attract more women if you were kind enough to share these kind of details"
"Whatever," Sasuke said, dismissing Suigetsu.
Half-way through their meal, Sasuke's phone rang. He took the phone and tapped on answer, saying, "Uchiha"
(Bold Italics for Neji's conversation)
*Uchiha-san, this is Neji Hyuuga. We met the other day for the signing of that contract with my client*
"If there are any queries that your client has, please run that through my secretary"
*Is Hinata with you?*
Sasuke stood up from his seat and went into a separate room.
"Why would she be with me?"
*My cousin has been with you for the past few days until last night when you dropped her off at my house. This morning I couldn't find her. Are you sure she's not with you?*
"Sorry to disappoint but she's not here with me"
*Has she contacted you?*
"No"
*Right. I would appreciate if you could inform me the next time she gets in contact with you*
The phone cut and Sasuke was met with silence.
"What did you do now Hyuuga," Sasuke whispered.
HINATA HYUUGA
(A/N Bold Italics for Japanese conversation)
"What's a pretty lady like you doing here?" the woman asked, placing a glass of lemonade on the table in front of Hinata.
"Wh...what?" Hinata asked dumbly.
Hinata had acted on auto-pilot when she decided to leave Neji's place with her belongings and no word to say where she was going (not that she decided where to go anyway). She checked into a hotel and made her way to the cafe she was currently in for breakfast, well brunch now.
"Well you have been sitting here for almost an hour," the woman answered, "and you haven't ordered anything yet. Are you okay?"
"I..., I'm not sure," Hinata honestly.
"Well let's fix that up, hm?" the woman smiled and turned around, "Haku! Bring me the sweet special tea and some snacks! Make it for two"
"Yes, boss!"
The woman sat down in front of Hinata and laid her head on her fisted hand.
"Hmmmm," the woman hummed looking over Hinata's form
"Tell me what's going on in that little mind of yours, friend?" she asked.
"Ummmm?" Hinata asked, very much confused, "You speak Japanese?"
"Yes. Surprised right?" the woman replied, to which Hinata nodded, "As a woman of colour, I find myself wanting to know about the rest of world. I enjoy learning languages and I do my best when learning about people from different countries or cultures"
"That's very impressive," Hinata commended.
"Thank you. Oh, here comes Haku with the tea"
The young man, Haku, gave each lady a steaming cup of tea and a small platter with an assortment of coloured macaroons.
"Thanks, Haku!" the woman smiled.
"Are you the owner of this cafe?" Hinata asked.
"Yes I am," confirmed the woman, "My name is Kina by the way"
"Hinata. I mean, I am Hinata"
"Nice to meet you, Hinata," Kina smiled, " I noticed you were a little down. Is everything okay?"
"Ummm," Hinata murmured, hiding behind her cup.
"No rush," Kina said, munching on a macaroon, "In fact you don't have to say everything. But you do seem to have a lot on your mind"
"You are right," Hinata replied, "there's a lot on my mind. I just wanted some time to myself to process it"
"Ohhh. That's a good thing. Its always a good idea to take a step back to evaluate your choices and assure yourself that you are on track with what you want"
The women continued to drink their tea in silence.
"My life has been a bit of a mess lately. I'm not as sure about what direction to take in my life as before and it exhausts me," began Hinata, "What do you do when you feel like that?"
"Hmmmm, well," Kina hummed, "the first step is acceptance or at the very least acknowledgement of your past and current circumstances. Things have happened, obviously you don't like that those things have happened. But you acknowledge that they have happened. Acceptance of that truth puts your heart in a better place. Sure, maybe you need to vent, scream shout or whatever but acknowledge and accept. After that you can do whatever"
"Just like that?" Hinata asked.
"Just like that," Kina agreed, "Of course its not an easy thing to do. And the time taken for people to acknowledge and accept things as they are is never the same time. Its not even something that can be rushed. Well I guess unless you have a straightforward matter"
"What happens next?"
"That's up to you to decide what to do"
Hinata was quiet. Her mind swirling with thoughts as she twirled her empty cup in her hands. Kina excused herself to make a quick phone call, and when when she came back, found Hinata with a steel look in her eye.
"I think I know what to do," she declared, "Thank you so much for your advice, Kina-san"
"Anytime Hinata-san," Kina replied, "I have to say though I like that look in your eye. Much better than the sad look you had"
Hinata pulled out a few bills and handed them to Kina, saying, "for the tea and the advice"
Hinata got up and left the cafe.
"Come back again to Lady Jiang's Cafe!" Kina waved.
"I can't believe you took her money after giving out that kind advice," Haku scolded from behind the counter.
"You want to be paid?" Kina asked.
Haku went back to whatever he was doing, deciding not to answer.
"Thought so," Kina stated, but then she looked to the doorway and smiled, "Good-luck, Hinata-san"
