Chapter 7: Truth

Nessie's POV

It took a long time for Bella to calm down. The family looked shocked and didn't know what to do. It only then occurred to me that they couldn't see Bella punching Edward. I tried not to laugh as I visualized the situation from their perspective.

Then there was the matter of why Bella was so angry at Edward in the first place. Me. Could it really be true that I was their daughter? That didn't make sense at all. Then that would make me half vampire. I shook my head. It was a crazy notion to entertain. I'm human for Godsakes. One hundred percent human. Despite my gift I was just a normal girl.

"What just happened?" Carlisle asked first when Bella finally stopped punching Edward.

"Bella got angry and attacked him," I answered. "You see its a common misconception that ghosts can't move physical objects, or people in this case. It takes a lot of concentration and strong emotion to do it but its possible. So basically she was so angry at Edward that it gave her the power to hit him,"

"Was? I'm still angry!" Bella said.

"So this ghost thing is true?" the big guy whose name I believed was Emmett asked.

"As true as vampires are," I said.

"I've never heard of such a thing," Carlisle spoke.

"Most people don't know of their existence until they actually die. I'm just an extremely rare exception to that rule,"

"Unique, exception" Edward added.

"I don't understand though. If I'm really your daughter-"

"You are my daughter," Edward interjected.

"Then that would make me half, half..."I couldn't even bring myself to say the word out loud.

"That would make you half vampire," Carlisle finished my sentence for me. "There's a lot we need to discuss young one. Why don't we go to the living room and talk now,"

"I don't feel like I'm not human and I definitely don't crave blood," then I realized something that I'd never thought of until that very second. "Wait a minute do you guys kill people?!" I half shrieked.

"No we don't," Carlisle said.

"But then what do you-"

"We drink animal blood Nessie," Edward said. "We don't like the idea of killing humans. I'm surprised Bella didn't explain that to you,"

"I forgot," Bella said to me sheepishly. "I'm sorry I should've remembered to tell you so that you wouldn't freak out,"

"Yeah a little heads up would've been nice,"

I noticed everyone looking at me funny. "Sorry I was talking to Bella. I guess that might take some getting used to,"

"I'll say," Emmett said.

"So how exactly did you two meet each other?" I think it was Esme that asked.

"She came to my house. I saw her standing on my front lawn as if she was waiting for something to happen. Then she realized that I could see her and that's when she asked for my help,"

"Actually Nessie the reason you found me at your house is a bit more complicated than that. I can't really explain it but there was something drawing me to that exact location. Something was pulling me there and I couldn't ignore the feeling that that's where I needed to be. When I realized you could see me I knew it was no coincidence. Now that I know you're my daughter I beginning to think it was divine intervention that brought me there,"

I looked back at the rest of them. "Bella was just telling me that she was drawn to my house. Now she thinks it might have been divine intervention or something,"

"It very well could've been," Edward agreed.

"So all people who die become ghosts and are doomed to roam the Earth forever?" Carlisle asked. I could see that his curiosity was really taking over.

"Not at all," I said. "Unfortunately I've witnessed death more times than I care to remember. There's three possible outcomes. One is a bright white light appears and the ghost walks toward it and crosses over into heaven. The second outcome is demons appear and forcibly drag a ghost down to hell. The third is what happened to Bella. Usually the ghosts that stay behind have some kind of unfinished business to deal with," I explained.

A collective silence fell over the room as they processed what I was had said. As odd as it seemed I was sure that they believed me.

"So Nessie where have you been all this time?" Esme was the first one to break the silence.

"With my family. I was adopted,"

That answer seemed to shock them. "You disappeared though. I mean how does this happen?" she asked.

"Something is not adding up here," Edward answered. "You're half vampire. You grew fast before you were born. Now you don't remember us and you're so...human,"

"Are you sure I'm even the right girl?"

"Yes I am. I've never been more sure of anything in my life. It's not just your scent but you look a lot like your mother and I. And my instincts are telling me that you are my daughter,"

I could feel it in my gut that he was right. That and there was something that was so familiar about him. Like I had known him at some point in my life and simply forgot.

I was suddenly very tired. I yawned. "She's tired," I heard Edward say. "I'm going to take her to my room to sleep,"

"I'm not sleepy," A big yawn gave away my lie.

He chuckled. "So stubborn just like your mother," he grabbed my chair and started to push it in the direction of his bedroom.

"Stubborn is my middle name.At least that's what my parents always say. My parents they must be so worried about me," I felt very guilty when I thought about them.

"You really love them don't you?"

"Yeah. They may not be perfect but they love me and I love them. It's just to bad they wasted so much money trying to keep me alive,"

"What did you just say?!" Edward seethed and Bella looked just as mad as he was.

"I mean they wasted so much money on my treatments only for me to die anyway,"

"Why didn't you tell me that you were sick in the first place?" Bella asked me.

"I didn't want you to know that's why. The fewer that know the better. I hate it when people pity me,"

Edward said "Nessie trying to save your life is never a waste of money. I never want to hear you say that again,"

I raised my eyebrows "But is it worth taking out loans and getting into massive debt over?"

Edward didn't say anything as we went into the bedroom but I could tell that something was on his mind. He helped me get on his bed. As soon as my head hit the pillow I fell asleep.

A strange noise in the room woke me up. It was dark and I had the sense that I'd been asleep for a long time. I turned the lamp on and gasped when I saw a handsome man standing in the room. He was so beautiful and muscular. He wasn't wearing a shirt.

"You can see me, can't you?"
