Rabbi Joshia smiled.
"He is absolutely beautiful," he said, taking the baby in his arms.
"Of course he's beautiful," Marcias replied, "He's my baby brother. How can he be anything but beautiful."
Rabbi Joshia laughed
"Marcias," he said after a second, "You must take care of who you say what to. Many people will not yet understand you. They may become afraid."
"I'm not scary," Marcias said, "The devil is scary."
"People can be afraid of what they don't understand," Joseph said softly, "and they are comfortable with what they do understand."
"Okay," Marcias said, "I get it."
Rabbi Joshia took baby Abiram in his arms and blessed him. Abriram didn't even stir.
"Has he been circumcised yet," Rabbi Joshia asked.
"He can't bleed," Marcias said, "My daddy in heaven told me that."
Rabbi Joshia looked at Mary and Joseph with questioning eyes.
"Is She?" he asked.
"She is," Mary replied, "But She's too little to do many of the things that She's going to be able to do when She's older. Her hour hasn't yet come."
"Obviously," Rabbi Joshia said.
He looked at Marcias and spoke to Her.
"It's better that you not tell others that GOD is your daddy in heaven," he said.
"But He is," Marcias said, "I can't lie."
"Sweetheart it's not lying," Mary said, "One day everyone will know. Right now though you can only tell the people nearest to your heart."
"I love everyone," Marcias said.
"You don't love the devil do you," Rabbi Joshia asked with a light air.
"No!" Marcias said.
She paused.
"Well, everyone has good in them," She added.
"Rabbi Thomas would disagree," Rabbi Joshia said.
"Rabbi Thomas isn't the be all and do all," Marcias said annoyed, "He has a problem with girls sitting up front in 'his' temple. The temple is for everyone, girls and boys."
"Yes it is," Mary agreed, "Many temples have problems with girls sitting up front."
"Well many temples are stupid," Marcias said angirly.
"One day all of that will change," Joseph promised.
"How?" Marcias asked.
"You'll understand when you're older," Mary answered and Joseph nodded.
"Okay," Marcias replied brightly.
She was way too young to understand all the responsibility that would be placed on Her shoulders. Rabbi Joshia agreed with that answer. Nobody, including Marcias, knew even half of it and thanks to GOD'S mercy it would be years before they did.
