Sleepwalking- The Chain Gang of 1974

Bonus Fact: (GTA 5's Ending B Song)

Hector, Miguel, Dante, and Todd all ran a considerable distance from the station until they were under a bridge. During the escape Todd managed to grab a robe, one that a boxer would wear just before getting into the ring, to cover his suit and helmet. He took off his goggles and clipped them on his belt.

Hector was busy putting white and black shoe polish on Miguel's face to disguise him. Todd sat on the ground with his back against the wall. "Ta-Da!" Hector said as he pulled Miguel's hood over his head "Dead as a doorknob!" he gave him a small mirror. Miguel made some expressions to see if the face paint was good enough. Todd let out a small chuckle.

"Your turn, Casco" Hector said to Todd.

"Casco?" Todd said in confusion

"Helmet" Miguel quickly translated without looking up.

"Oh, helmet haha I get it, haha" Todd said flatly as he sat in front of Hector.

Todd took off his helmet and his gloves then grabbed the black polish from Hector's hand. he then drew a line around the part of his face that's visible when his helmet's on. "Just color in the circle," Todd instructed. Hector without another word got started.

"and done!" Hector said with a smile. Todd then slipped his helmet on carefully to not rub off the makeup and then looked at his reflection. "Nice" Todd said with a smile. Todd then took the paint off of Hector and began to paint his neck himself.

Hector turned to Miguel "So Miguel, this place runs off of memories, when you're, well remembered, people put up your photo and you can cross the bridge and visit the Land of the living on Día De Los Muertos. Unless you're me."

"So, you can't cross over?" Todd inquired as he dusted his hands off and replaced his gloves.

"No one has ever put up my photo" Hector them reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a picture "But you and uhh-"

"Todd"

"- Todd! can change that" he then unfolded the picture and showed it to them. Todd and Miguel saw a young and alive Hector.

"This is you?" Miguel asked

Hector did a cocky, toothy smirk "Muy Guapo eh?"

Todd nodded "Hmm yeah, what do you think Miguel?"

"Oh! ah! yeah," Miguel said, "So, you get Todd and me to my Great Great Grandfather and in return, I put your photo up when we get home?"

"Such a smart boy! Yes, my thoughts exactly!" Hector exclaimed, "But there's one problem, De La Cruz is a tough guy to get to and I need to get across that bridge, like tonight!" He pointed to the floor to add emphasis "So do you have any other family that's a bit more accessible?"

Miguel's eyes darted around for a split second "Nope" Todd just kept his jaw sealed tight

"Don't yank my chain Muchacho, you have to have some family here." Hector said

"Only De La Cruz, so if you can't help us then we'll just find him ourselves" Miguel handed the picture back to Hector before getting up and walking away with Todd and Dante following suit. Todd pulling the hood over his helmet as he did so.

"Ugh!" Hector threw up his hands and got up "Okay, Okay kids. I'll get you to your Great Great Grandfather!" he caught up to the boys and took the lead.

Todd leaned into Miguel's ear and whispered "You are playing with fire"

"Have a little faith, Todd" Miguel answered.

"Yeah I had faith in you, that's why I'm here" Todd retorted

The group came out onto a busy and crowded street.

'It's not going to be easy you know? De La Cruz is a busy man" Hector warned, Todd could hear a slight growl in his voice.

"Whoa! what are you doing?" Hector asked Miguel. Todd turned to him and saw he was walking with a slight limp.

"I'm walking like a skeleton, y'know blending in!" Miguel quickly explained

"No skeletons don't walk like that" Hector deadpanned.

"It's how you walk!"

"No, I don't!'

Todd looked at how Hector walked … with the same limp "You sure?" Todd asked with a chuckle

'Positive!" Hector then looked down and saw he did indeed walk like that

"Stop it!" Hector lightly shoved Miguel and then turned to see Todd giggling "Stop laughing!" he lightly pushed Todd as well.

Miguel then saw a large billboard advertising a De La Cruz concert. "Hey! look at that! Ernesto De La Cruz's Sunrise Spectacular!" he exclaimed while leaning on the railing. Todd leaned on the railing and looked as well.

"Ugh" Hector moaned "Every year your Great Great Grandpa puts on that dumb show to mark the end of Día De Los Muertos."

"And you can get us in!"

"Uhhhh..."

"You said you had front row tickets!" Miguel pointed out

"That was a … lie I apologize for that" Hector said with a sheepish grin

"Bruh..." Todd said flatly while Miguel just glared at him.

"Cool off chamacos!" Hector said whilst taking the lead "Follow me I'll get you to him"

"How?!" Miguel and Todd asked at the same time

"Cause I happen to know where he's rehearsing!"

Todd and Miguel exchanged glances, but quickly relented and followed Hector, after all, what choice did they have?

After a while of walking, they came to a large warehouse Hector then detached his arm and using his suspender shot it up to the window and then knocked in it.

A little while later a lady opened the window and rolled her eyes "You better have my dress Hector!" she shouted as she pulled down a lever, lowering down a ladder.

"Hola Ceci!" Hector called up as he reattached his arm. Miguel climbed up first, followed by Dante.

Todd then climbed up, but halfway up he heard his heart beating hard in his ears, Todd leaned on the ladder and clenched his heart that began to glow slightly.

"Casco? everything alright?" Hector asked from underneath him.

"Yeah, I'm fine" Todd softly responded as he continued up.

Todd climbed into what seemed to be a stylist's workshop as there were many finished and unfinished dresses everywhere.

Hector then climbed in "Uhh Ceci? I lost the dress" he said with a sheepish grin.

"Ay Dios Mio!" the lady said in anger "I've got forty dancers to have dressed by sunrise and thanks to you I'm going to be one Frida short!"

As Hector tried to calm down the situation, Dante wandered off into the next room. "Dante!" Miguel called out to the dog before giving chase. Todd immediately took off after them.

"Where you guys going!" Todd said as he rounded the corner. Both Miguel and Todd found themselves in a large prop and art shop. A large prop of a dragon head was wheeled past them.

Todd stopped to look around while Miguel went off to find Dante. Miguel stopped and stared at something. "Miguel what are you..." Todd began before seeing a naked skeleton posing for a painting. Todd quickly pushed Miguel away while slapping a hand over his eyes "What's wrong with you?"

Suddenly then saw Dante running around with a Monkey on his back. Todd and Miguel immediately chased after them. the monkey then jumped on Todd's helmet and looked him dead in the eyes "Ah! Help it's getting me!" Todd cried as he stumbled around trying to remove the creature from his face. Miguel attempted to get the monkey off of Todd's helmet.

Todd then tripped over Dante and fell on the floor with a heavy thud with the money on longer on his helmet. Todd shook his head. "Todd! you okay?" Miguel rounded the corner began to help him up.

"You!" a loud voice startled them as they looked up they saw a lady glaring down at them "And you! What are you doing here!?" She demeaned to know.

Todd quickly scrambled to his feet and stood at attention "Sorry!" Miguel quickly said, "We were just trying to st-"

"*Gasp* The mighty Xolo dog!" the woman beamed as she knelt down and took Dante's head in her hands "guider of the wondering spirits!" she then turned to Todd and Miguel "and who's spirits have you brought to me tonight!"

"I don't think he's a spirit guide..." Miguel shyly stated

"Ah-ah!" the lady interrupted "Alebrijes can take many forms, shapes, and sizes" The monkey then stood straight on the lady's shoulder and breathed out blue fire before letting out a chesty cough of smoke.

"Whoa..." Todd managed to say

They then turned to Dante

Who was chewing on his own leg before spitting it out in disgust

"Or maybe he's just a dog" the lady said in slight disappointment.

Todd then clicked his fingers and pointed to the lady "Are you Frida Kahlo?" he asked

A smile came across her face "Why, yes I am"

Todd shook her hand "My parents love your work"

"Why thank you," Frida said "Come I need your eyes!" She took Todd and Miguel over to a bench and sat them on it.

She then clapped her hands, turning the lights "Darkness" she began while lighting a match "and from the darkness a giant papaya!" The lights came back on and displayed a huge papaya prop. "Dancers emerge from the prop, and the dancers are all me." Todd and Miguel saw dancers all dressed with her likeness, even sporting a unibrow crawled out from the middle of the prop. "And they go to drink from their mother who is the cactus, who is also me. And the milk is not milk they are tears" She then turned back to the living boys "is it too obvious?" she asked in worry.

"It looks all good to me" Todd replied

"I think it's just the right amount of obvious?" Miguel said "it could use some music! Oh! what is you did like" Miguel then sang a little tune. Frida clicked her fingers to a small group of musicians who then played the tune. "Oh! And then it could go" Miguel sang another tune with more excitement and once again the musicians played it.

"And, what if everything was on fire!?" Frida asked with almost sick excitement.

Todd then noticed the dancers exchanging concerned glances amongst each other, he quickly stood up.

"Ah-ha! no no no we wouldn't want your dancers to be in any danger now would we?" Todd walked over to the artist "How about instead of fire, dry ice, and warm water. Now you wouldn't happen to have any-" Frida clicked her fingers and someone ran over with a cube of dry ice and a glass of warm water. Todd looked at it for a moment and then shrugged. "Now as you can see if I drop the ice into the water it creates a fog effect like so" Todd dropped the ice in and a fog began to leak over the edge of the glass. "But hey just a suggestion" Todd finished.

Frida stopped to think for a moment "Yes, that would look even better, inspired, both of you" she put her hands on their shoulders.

She then went back to explaining her performance "The dancers' exit, the music fades the lights go out" the lights then went out then a platform rose up with a familiar-looking silhouette "And Ernesto de la Cruz rises to the stage!"

Miguel leaned forward in excitement, while Todd just crossed his fingers. The spotlight then came on and revealed that "Ernesto" was just a mannequin holding a broomstick as the guitar.

"Because of course, that would be too easy" Todd cursed under his breath, Miguel meanwhile was just confused.

Frida just continued her rehearsal "He does a couple of songs, the sun rises everyone cheers-"

"uh excuse me," Miguel said whilst getting off the bench "Where's the real De la Cruz?"

"Ernesto doesn't do rehearsals," Frida said whilst rolling her eyes. "He's too busy hosting his fancy party at the top of his tower" she gestured to a large, bright tower outside a large window. Miguel walked up to the window looking in awe.

Todd was about to walk up beside him, but he felt Frida's monkey climb on his shoulder and on his helmet before plopping down on top of it. "Don't get any funny ideas" Todd warned.

"Muchachos!" Hector called out as he ran around the corner and made his way over to Todd and Miguel "You can just run off like that! Come on, stop pestering the celebrities"

Miguel just glared at him "You said my Great-Great-Grandpa would be here!" Miguel then gestured to the window "He's halfway across town, throwing some big party!"

"Oh, that good for nothing piece of--!!!" Hector cursed "Who doesn't show up to their own rehearsal!?"

"If you're such good friends, how come he didn't invite you?!" Miguel fired back angrily

"He's your Great Great Grandpa. How come he didn't invite you?!" Hector retorted

Todd just stood next to Frida watching the situation unfold with the monkey still on his helmet. Miguel looked at him as if asking for some backup "What?"

Hector then turned to the musicians "Hey Gustavo!, know anything about this party?"

Gustavo looked at Hector with a smug grin "If you're not on the guest list you're never getting in ... Chorizo..." he said with an equally smug voice

"Hey look it's Chorizo!" another musician said before all of them began laughing.

Hector sighed in frustration "Yes ha ha very funny..."

Todd felt Frida tap him on the shoulder "Can I talk to you for a moment?"

"Uhh, sure," Todd said nervously, what could she possibly what to talk to him about?

She led him over to where she was painting before. "I must ask" she began "Is this your actual face?"

Well that was anti-climactic "No, it's just a helmet"

"Well, I want to see what you look like" Frida then reached for his helmet. Todd almost instantly jumped back, causing the monkey to jump off.

"No!"

Frida raised a bone brow(?) "Why not?"

"Uhhh... well..." Todd began

'Damn, what do I say!?'

"I died in this helmet and... I'm going to die again in this helmet"

Frida stood there before giving him a small smile "That's very noble of you"

Todd mentally sighed in relief "Thank you" then he got an idea and pulled out his phone from his leg-pack and clipped it onto his selfie stick. "Hey can I please get a picture with you?" he asked shyly

"Of course"

Todd mentally gave himself a high five. He then grabbed Frida by her waist and sat her down on his shoulder, her monkey sat back down on top of his helmet. "Okay just look at that" He pointed to the camera on his phone, Frida did her stoic expression used in most of her artwork. After Todd took a few pictures he set her back down.

"Todd!" Miguel rounded the corner "Come on! we have to go!"

Todd nodded then turned back to Frida and shook her hand "Hasta la vista, Mi Amiga" he said before taking off.

"Where are we going?" Todd asked

"Going to get a guitar" Miguel answered

Frida grabbed a nearby polaroid camera, detached her arm and held it similarly to how Todd did, and took a picture of herself. She then grabbed it and looked at it with a smirk.

She will need a lot more camera film.
