"Good morning, Hadrian, you are up early," Penny said as she saw Hadrian come into the common room at around 6:30, where she was already up reading.
"Well, the schedule says that Breakfast will be served from 7:00-9:00, before we have first year orientation," Hadrian said kindly.
"Very true, I am so glad they have that orientation, apparently when Professor Flitwick was a student here, it didn't exist, it was a club called Progression Strengthens Tradition that really pushed for it's implementation, sadly that club crumbled before it actually was put into practice," Penny said thoughtfully.
"If I can I hope to restart that club," Hadrian said kindly.
"Is that so, that would be cool, we can talk with Professor Flitwick about it later, see what needs to occur to reinstate a club. In the meantime, while we wait for some of your year mates, what is your schedule like this year?" Penny asked kindly.
"Well outside of today normally on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays we have Transfiguration, Charms, and Potions, all with the Hufflepuffs, and then Tuesdays and Thursdays we have Herbology, History, and Defense Against the Dark Arts, all with the Slytherins, and then Saturday we have Flying or other physical activity, such as track and Astronomy, with the Gryffindors," Hadrian said calmly.
"The physical activity also was pushed by the same club as first year orientation, since they felt that everyone should get exercise, not just the quidditch team, however after 1st year you can opt out of the class," Penny said thoughtfully.
"Well that's interesting, but anyway what are you reading?" Hadrian asked kindly.
"Oh, just my transfiguration book, it is my weakest subject," Penny said in turn.
"Oh, is that because the Professor is difficult?" Hadrian asked intrigued.
"Well she is not easy, but she is not the hardest either," Penny said kindly.
"Oh, okay, well since my first actual class will be Herbology tomorrow, I think I'll read that book until we go down for breakfast," Hadrian said as he took a seat by Penny and pulled out his herbology book and began to read.
"Ready to head down for breakfast, Hadrian?" Penny asked about an hour later when the other first years came down from their rooms.
"Oh, yeah, sure," Hadrian said after marking his page and putting his book back into his shoulder bag, before following Penny to the great hall for breakfast.
"Welcome first years to Hogwarts, for those who not paying attention last night, I am Headmaster Dumbledore." A tall man with a long beard said once all the older students had gone to their classes.
"Hello, Headmaster," The youth all chorused.
"Good, to see you are all awake. This morning we will be having our 1st year orientation, I will be leading it for the first while, before Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, and Professor Snape will all also talk for a short time, is that something we can agree on?" Headmaster Dumbledore said kindly.
"Yes, headmaster," Everyone chorused back.
"Good, now to start we will go over a history of Hogwarts. Hogwarts was founded nearly 1000 years ago, to be more exact 998 years ago, as a refuge for wizards and witches who were being hunted by their nonmagical counterparts…" Headmaster Dumbledore explained giving a brief history of the school.
"So how was first year orientation?" Penny asked after getting back to the common room after dinner where she saw Hadrian sitting and reading.
"It was okay, got better once the headmaster stopped his spiel. Clearly Professors McGonagall, Flitwick, and Snape know their crafts," Hadrian said looking up.
"That is very true, do you have any questions?" Penny asked kindly.
"Only one, how did the professors get away from teaching their classes this morning?" Hadrian asked kindly.
"Well all first years have their classes on their classes on the same days and general times, so they could attend. If classes started on a Tuesday or Thursday instead of Monday, than Professors Quirrell, Sprout, and Hooch would have been there for the orientation instead," Penny said simply.
"Oh, that makes sense I guess, does that mean that all second year have their classes on the same day as well?" Hadrian asked kindly.
"Exactly, 1st and 2nd years have all their classes in the morning, except Astronomy, 3rd and 4th years have their core classes in the middle of the day and electives in the mornings. 5th years have their core classes in the evening and electives midday. I'm not exactly sure 6th and 7th years work, since they have fewer classes since they are done with their owls," Penny explained.
"Well that's interesting, so do you know anything about setting up clubs?" Hadrian asked curiously.
"Not a lot, but from what I have gathered, is you have to submit a request at the end of the year to start one the following year, and it has to have at least 3 members, and a staff member willing to sponsor it," Penny said confused by the question.
"Damn, that means I'll have to restart my mom's club at the end of the year, which is annoying, anyway, its been a long day, and I still want to read some of my textbooks so I'm going to bed. Night Penny," Hadrian said before retiring to bed.
