Miya Atsumu had invited her to practice. More like, guilt tripped her. It was a wonderful, genius plan!
If it weren't for Miya Atsumu, Wakai Rena wouldn't step closer to the volleyball net in the gym.
Instead, she sat on a desk and opened her notebook and jotted down some notes while she watched the team play.
Atsumu noticed something was different in her. She seemed relucant at first coming to see him practice, but his guilt tripping worked and now she's here.
She doesn't even want to touch the ball or get any closer though. 'Samu said she's having drawbacks.
The coach thought she was a fangirl of the Miya Twins at first, but when she greeted Kita and Suna when she came in, his presumptions were wrong. Rena thanked him that she was allowed to see them practice. She bet that one of them had told the coach that she used to play volleyball and won nationals last year.
She jotted down notes quickly as she saw them play. Their teamwork was not so bad, considering Inarizaki's slogan: There are no memories... Scary.
Yes, she can see why they are Hyogo's powerhouse. Having someone like the Miya Twins and Suna last year was a miracle. They both were good, and they complete the puzzle piece with their senpais.
Ojiro Aran was an amazing spiker, albeit there are some drawbacks when he is pressured. Kita Shinsuke was the model volleyball player, but sometimes even Rena could see little mistakes that could happen if they underestimate the opponent team.
The coach blew the whistle as they finished practice and the team huddled as they reviewed their play.
Rena looked down to her notes.
She wrote how Suna can improve his blocking and spiking, along with Osamu. Osamu somehow lacks the drive that Atsumu has. Other than that, the twins also tend to get a little cocky and mix up their plays, which were sometimes pretty good when you want to make your opponent confused. The problem was, the two didn't really execute it well.
An then there was him.
Miya Atsumu...
Her notes about him has the most pages. She noticed how his steps gave away his next move. She noticed how he sometimes like to brag and make fancy moves. She noticed how he set beautifully to his teammates. She noticed how his eyes sparkle when playing volleyball.
Like hers.
She scowled as she saw that she have drawn him serving the ball. Heat rushed to her face and she closed her book in embarassment.
"Rena-chan!" Atsumu called her. Yes, he finally called her using her first name after she told him to, since Wakai-san reminded her so much of her father. It had been amusing to see him sulk since he was the one not calling her by her name in the friend group.
"Nice playing." She clapped and passed the water bottle on her side to him. Atsumu caught it and drank half of the bottle and wiped his mouth as a few drops fell.
"What did you write so seriously while we were playing?" Atsumu asked as he leaned over the table to open her notebook. She instantly slammed her book, surprising him and a few tenants of the gym.
She took the book away from his sight and opened it.
"Practice notes. I analyzed your playstyles." She covered her face.
"Oh, what does mine say?" Osamu joined in with Suna.
"Lack of enthusiasm."
"HAHAHHAHA!" Atsumu laughed loudly. "What does mine say? I bet mine's better than yers, 'Samu!"
Rena covered her face even more.
"Predictable playing, arrogant boasting, and many more." She said flatly.
Atsumu pouted as Osamu laughed back at him.
way back home...
All three of them were walking back home. Rena once again dragged them to the convenience store near school. They bought drinks and Rena bought her favourite two-stick ice cream.
She broke it and gave Atsumu the other half, like usual.
"So, were we cool? Did you see how I setted the ball?" Atsumu boasted.
"Yeah I guess..."
"C'mon, Rena-chan, shower us with some compliments! I know we did good!." Atsumu pouted. Rena stopped walking and turned to Atsumu. She raised an eyebrow at the slowly growing blush on his cheeks as she stared at him.
"...Why do you want to be praised so much?"
Osamu snorted at this.
"It's his kink." Osamu chuckled. Atsumu's face quickly went beet red as he tried reaching his twim brother to beat him up, going around Rena. They ended up chasing each other around her like cat and mouse.
"'SAMU! WHAT THE HELL?!"
"HAHAHAHAHA!"
"Can you two stop running around me? It's making me dizzy." Rena deadpanned at the two's childishness.
"No wonder I wrote childish in both of your profiles..." She muttered to herself as she walked past them, leaving them gaping at her anmoyed state.
"Rena-chan, wait!" Atsumu tried stopping her, but Osamu just shrugged as the two saw her walk away from them. Osamu sighed and patted his twin on his shoulder. He leaned in to whisper.
"You have it bad, brother." and jogged to Rena's side. Rena looked up at Osamu with a slight smile, her annoyed state gone as she nibbled on her ice cream stick again, happily. Osamu gave her a smile of his own. The two then walked together, side by side, deep in conversation about Onigiri fillings.
Atsumu just dejectedly watched them walk away with warm smiles on their faces, conversing about who knows what.
