Chapter 5 : Thugs Are Cliche
"So this is what it looks like inside the town huh." Aozora muttered as she looks around her.
This is the first time she saw real houses made of stone. Well, not all of them are stone. Some seems to be made of bricks or something.
She is not an expert on history and engineering so she doesn't know what type of buildings are in here or what she can compare it to in her world.
'Well then, first thing to do is to register as an Adventurer. It seems like they give some sort of ID there that can also act like a visa so we can get inside the other towns and cities.' She thought to herself.
Hinako was leading them to the Adventurer's Guild. It was obvious that they need an ID to get through the next city.
When they arrived at the Adventurer's Guild, they quickly get to the reception desk so they can register themselves as Adventurers.
The process to become an Adventurer is very familiar for Aozora. She have seen this kind of stuff in the Isekai stories that she knows of.
She looks at the form that she needs to fill up and she notices that she can perfectly understand it.
'That was neat. I thought I won't be able to understand the language at all.' She thought to herself while she was writing her information in it.
She was using her own language of course.
While she was writing on it, she felt like asking about this to the receptionist.
"Uhmm, this is going to sound weird but I wonder... can you read what I wrote in this paper?" She asks in curiosity.
The receptionist, which seems to be called Nadia, looks at her for a moment before she smiled wryly at her.
"Oh, maybe you didn't know but this paper is special. It was made from the Mystral Tree. Papers made from that tree makes everything written in it understandable to anyone seeing it." Nadia told her.
"I see. Is this commonly used here?" Aozora asks once again.
"No. This paper was only used from the guilds and the country's leaders and their lords." Nadia answered.
"Is that so. But I think that is still a lot. Won't you get a shortage of this paper with every organizations in this country using it or is there an abundance of this Mystral Tree where you can harvest this?"
"Oh, that's classified information. But you seem to be very knowledgeable to think like that."
Aozora looks at the receptionist while thinking about it.
It seems like the people in this place normally doesn't think about complicated stuffs like that. So she thinks this place have a much lower literacy rate than she ever thinks.
Nadia who saw her being deep in thought misunderstood it and she raises her hand.
"Sorry, that was rude of me. I won't pry anymore about you." She said apologetically.
Aozora looks at her and understood that the receptionist might be thinking that she was a noble.
Well, that's the only thing that she can rationalize it because the Isekai stuffs that she knows in her past world always put nobles as those who are educated while the commoners doesn't know much other than what they already have.
On those she watches, the usual cliche is that the MC will always put his knowledge to use which the others will mistake as someone who was a noble, because commoners were normally uneducated and doesn't understand economy that much.
Aozora wasn't that far off in her thoughts. Nadia really thinks she is a noble in incognito. And seeing the clothes that she was wearing turns that impression strongly.
She thinks that these three are travelling together. She thinks that not all of them are halflings unlike Hinako.
She still thinks that Hinako is a halfling.
"Anyway, I am done." Aozora said before handling the document to the receptionist.
Austina also did so after she was done.
"Okay, please wait for a moment while I take care of this." She said before doing something behind the desk.
While she was waiting for these process to finish, she felt a nudge in her shoulders so she turned to see Hinako leaning closer to her.
"Commander, those guys' look are unpleasant. I think they are planning something." She said while pointing those guys with her eyes.
Aozora glances on that direction and saw three scary looking guys gazing at them. Just like what Hinako said, their gazes are unpleasant.
It was like they are looking at a piece of luxurious meat.
Aozora have some experience with those kind of gazes. Though she doesn't acknowledge this but she was pretty attractive with a nice figure so most of her classmates and some strangers always do a double take as she passes by them, with some creeps leering at her.
Whenever she was not playing her games, she can feel those gazes that seems to lick her all over and even with her sociopathic lifestyle, she still felt disgusted about that.
Aozora took her attention back to the reception desk and opting to ignore those guys.
"Just ignore them. They can't do anything inside this place." She said to Hinako.
And she have some basis for that belief.
This is the Adventurer's Guild. Those guys won't be here anymore if they are so brazen as to cause a scene inside the guild's premises.
And it seems like she was right on that because those guys were just leering at them without doing anything else.
After waiting for awhile, Nadia came back with two metal plates. She told them to put a drop of their blood in it which they obliged to do so.
After doing that, the process was done. There are now something written on the metal plates.
Name : Austina Schloegn
Gender : Female
Age : 22
Class : Princess Knight
Affiliation : None
Rank : F
Name : Aozora
Gender : Female
Age : 16
Class : None
Affiliation : None
Rank : F
Awhile ago, Aozora only wrote her name in the fill up paper when it was presented to her. It was because she thinks that surnames are only used by those nobles.
As for Austina, she doesn't want to tell her off about it. The girl was literally a royalty so she can proudly proclaim her name anywhere.
It might be pretty counterproductive to what she was doing but she thinks it won't be that bad. They might even just think that Austina is just a normal noble on some unknown country and the two girls that were along with her are her retainers or something.
That's how far she thought about it while looking at the Adventurer Card in her hand.
'Hm... so they also have a Class System here huh. I don't know that.' Aozora thought to herself. 'And Affiliation?'
In curiosity, she asks about it which the receptionist answered her.
"The Affiliation section will display whether you are in a party or in one of the organization. It will automatically update itself based on what you are doing." Nadia told them.
"I see. I wonder how that works?" Aozora muttered in curiosity.
Nadia just smiled at her without answering so it seems like she can't get any info about that.
"So party huh..." Aozora made another question.
Nadia then told them about the things they need to learn as a member of the Adventurer's Guild.
To summarize...
-The Adventurer's Guild wasn't responsible to anything that happens to the Adventurers. Which means that whether they died or got injured, the Adventurer's Guild won't intervene or give a helping hand.
-Ranks are divided into 9 ranks. F, E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, and SSS. These ranks will determine how strong and capable is that adventurer and also every threats of the quest or the monsters that they encountered.
-Losing the Adventurer's Card usually happens so those adventurers can reissue their license to the Adventurer's Guild. Though it will cost them money to reissue it.
-Adventurers can accept any quest on the Adventurer's Guild. Though as stated on the first section, they are responsible to whatever will happen to them.
-There are two types of failing a quest. It's the Common Failure and Total Failure. Total Failure doesn't cause the party to be penalized by failing that quest while the Common Failure penalized the party for failing the quest.
-Common Failure is only issued when the adventurer did a quest that was totally safe and failed it, the time limit of that quest expired without being able to complete it, or any reason that were very minor reasons to stop that quest.
-Total Failure is issued when the party doing that quest met with a gruesome and horrible outcome. Examples ranged from having their members die, horribly injured (like dismembered or life threatening wounds), an emergency that was much more important than the quest happens to force them to quit doing it, and many other reasons that was enough for that party to be deemed unavailable to finish that quest.
-Adventurers can do a petition in this guild so they can help them in their problems as an Adventurer. This will also help them determine whether that party who failed a quest will either be issued a Total Failure or a Common Failure. Petition can also be used so they can resolve their problems though it should be limited to anything related to adventuring.
-Their rank can only be raised inside the Adventurer's Guild. Anything else in the Guild Card will automatically update depending on what they do.
-The last thing is that Adventurers who doesn't do a quest or any activity for a long time will have their license revoked and they need to reissue it to the Adventurer's Guild. Their inactivity period is dependent on their rank.
Hearing all of that, Aozora have some questions about it. Nadia answered all of her concerns before she was finally satisfied.
Then she decided to take on a quest in it.
"Well, we want to take this quest please."
What she chose is an escort request to get to the next city. And that was the city where they wanted to go so she thinks this is just enough to get there and also acquire that quota so their license doesn't get revoke.
"... Well, I think this is fine." Nadia said after looking at it for awhile.
The receptionist thinks that this three girls have been travelling for a long time. Seeing that they manage to get to this place in one piece, they seem to be competent enough to survive a journey.
So even if this one is two ranks higher than them, she thinks that they can handle it.
And they are allowed to pick any quest they want regardless of their rank. She was just being a busybody who was feeling a bit worried at the newbie adventurers.
"I'll just put my stamp on this and inform the client about this. You can meet the client tomorrow on the western gate of this town." Nadia said after she was done reading the request form.
"Okay... wait, can we also register my party. I think that was a thing here right?"
"Of course."
After hearing the receptionist's confirmation, Aozora quickly decided about it.
"I want to call us the Aozora (青空) Party."
"Oh, so you will be called as the Blue Sky Party, is it right?"
Aozora felt that something was a bit different there but she chalk it up as her hallucination. She heard Aozora (青空) in Nadia's mouth so she thinks that nothing is amiss.
Registering their party is just simply filling up another form and writing who are the members of this party. After they are done writing that, their Guild Cards were updated.
Aozora looks at it and saw what changed in her Guild Card.
Name : Aozora
Gender : Female
Age : 16
Class : None
Affiliation : Blue Sky
Rank : F
'So it really updates itself automatically. How does this function I wonder?' She wondered to herself in curiosity.
They left the guild after they are done registering their party in it.
"Now then, let's find a place to stay. We still need to wait for tomorrow for that escort request." Aozora said to the two.
The two of them nodded at her words and they walk to the streets to find an inn where they can stay.
It seems like Hinako still have some spare coins to her so they can use it to stay at an inn.
When they got to a decent distance out of the Adventurer's Guild, on a place that have a few crowds in it, Hinako and Austina's expression suddenly turned serious.
"Commander, someone is following us." Hinako whispered at their master.
Aozora was snap out of her carefree walk and she looks at Hinako in confusion.
Before she can ask them, she heard someone calling at them which makes her glance on that direction.
From there, they can see the three scary looking guys approaching them with a glint in their eyes.
Aozora felt an instinctive chill in her skin before she quickly shook it off and looks at her companions.
'What am I getting scared for. I have two strong people besides me. They will protect me from those thugs...' She thought to herself.
"What should we do?" Hinako asks in a whisper.
"Well, let's hear them out." Aozora said.
When the three guys got near them, one of them immediately initiates a conversation.
"Heya, I hear that you three are still new to this town. Why don't you come with us. We can show you the ropes." The one leading them say.
He was already stretching his hand to hold Hinako with his arm.
"We are busy." Hinako casually dodges that as she replies to him.
"Huh?" The guy was a bit dumbfounded at it before he glared at them. "Hey, come on now. No need to be that wary, we won't hurt you."
The two guys took a step and was standing tall as if to threaten them with their figures.
But the princess and the spy are not impress at all.
"Sorry, we are not interested." Hinako said bluntly.
"Right. We are still busy with something." Austina follows up with that.
Then the two of them turned their back and also urges Aozora to move out of this place.
"Oi! I am still not done talking!" The one leading them yelled in anger as he saw them leaving.
He tried to grab Hinako's shoulder which he manage to do in a split second. After that, his hand grabbing her shoulder was grabbed and it was broken with her grip just like that.
"Guh!? GAAAAAAAAAAA!" He screamed in pain.
"It took a bit of an effort. It seems like you are much stronger than a normally non-augmented human." Hinako mutters before turning into them.
He took a few steps back as he clutched his broken hand. It seems like her grip was abnormally strong because even two of his fingers are bend in a wrong way and there is a large bruising at the side of his hand.
The two others were alarmed by this before they glared at them angrily.
"You little bitch!"
"You'll pay for that!"
The two of them charges at her. It seems like they are only targeting Hinako.
Hinako just snorted at their actions before she lowered her body position and took a sprint to get closer in the guy's torso.
The guy was surprised at her speed but it seems like he still managed to react in time and manage to block her gut punch.
"Ugh!?" The guy grunted, feeling the hand he used to block broke.
Still he endured and grabs the fist that he manages to block.
But he lost his balance when Hinako uses her full leg strength to sweep his feet out of the ground.
His grasps on her fist loosened, which enables her to move out of the way before the other guy swipes at her with his fist.
She dodges the other guy's swipe and saw that unlike the one who blocks her, this one is much faster.
"Dammit! What is her level!?" The one leading them asks in panic.
'Level?' Aozora thought in curiosity.
While that is happening, Hinako was just continuing to dodge. She can't attack due to the guy's sheer nimbleness.
Hinako then jumps back, which stops that nimble guy from attacking. The tough guy whom she sweeps to the ground seems to have recovered and the leader guy was now lining up with the two of them.
"Bitch! What is your level!? How can you inflict that much damage to our tank!?" The leader guy shouted in anger.
"What do you mean from level?" Aozora was the one who asks in curiosity.
"You!? Are you mocking us!?" The leader guy spat in anger.
Aozora wants to ask more but she thinks that it will be a fruitless effort so she stops.
She can only watch as those three thugs prepared to engaged them once again.
She looks at Hinako and she saw that she was itching to grab her weapons hidden somewhere in her clothes. It seems like she was holding herself back.
Well, she is holding herself back. While she can see that they are hostile, she still saw them as just a civilian. In the Radiance Council, they can't use their weapons when engaging with the civilians. If they are faced with a dangerous civilian, they need to incapacitate them, which means they can't use their weapons at all.
It was so ingrained to her that she was stopping herself from grabbing her weapons even when she was being threatened by these guys.
Aozora doesn't know that little fact because it wasn't shown in the game. But she can make a guess that she doesn't want to go lethal on them.
So she decided to tell her to stop that.
"Hinako. Just use your weapon. You just need to make sure that they won't die from it." Aozora said that to her like it was nothing.
In her mind, it was normal to do so. They are being threatened after all so they are allowed to act in self-defense, even if it's a bit extreme.
Also, she doesn't want Hinako to be beaten up just because she was holding herself back. She wants her to be in full shape so she can farm more EXP to her.
Yes, Aozora's mind still goes back to focusing on her Idle Games. Even when she is in danger.
After hearing Aozora's order, Hinako put her hand behind her and took something in it.
That something is a knife with a different sheen on it. It was a knife that was minimized and was glued in her nanofibers.
It was a blackish knife with a greenish sheen in it. The metal it was made of was unknown from the Earth's Standard.
Aozora was familiar with that weapon. Because it was the starting equipment for Hinako when the player got her.
It was a Plasmasteel Knife.
Based on the flavor text of this weapon, this knife was made with Plasmasteel. Plasmasteel seems to be a metal made from the core of a star. It was the standard metal used from many arms on that game.
She doesn't know if it was sharper or more durable than military grade knives on Earth. She doesn't even know how it was possible to create a metal from the core of the star. She thinks it's just some nonsense of the game.
'Well, these guys are a lot more stronger than a regular human. They can take hits from her who canonically punches through a robots head with her fist only. That robot is even made from Plasmasteel, which is also the same metal that her knife was made of. So I think they can survive... probably...' Aozora thought to herself.
When she releases her weapon, the three others also unsheathed the weapons on their waist. The tough guy is wielding a spiked mace, the nimble guy are wielding two jagged knives, and the leader guy have a long sword trained on her.
"You wanna go huh!" The leader guy spat in anger. "Then, we'll rough you up first!" He yelled before charging at her along with the three.
Aozora was still worried about it so she looks at Austina. It seems like Austina was already unsheathing her blade before her master can even ask her.
The tough guy is going to swing his mace. He seems to be targeting Hinako's torso so he can incapacitate her.
But they are surprised when Hinako vanished in their sight.
The tough guy was surprised once again when he suddenly flew to the wall of one of the houses with a large bruise in his chest. The fabric that was covering his chest was ripped apart.
The two others look at the side and saw that Austina was in a thrusting stance. It seems like she was the one who did it to that guy.
"What!?" The leader guy asks in surprise before he looks around. "Wait, where is the other chick!?" He asks in anger.
The nimble guy looks around for a bit too before he suddenly blocks something in his side with his two knives.
It was not enough though because his knives were cleanly cut. Then he was wounded from his hands that were holding his knives.
"GAAAAAA!" He screamed in pain as he fell on his butt.
"That was surprising, you managed to sense me even though I am cloaked." Hinako said but she wasn't showing her form at all.
Hinako's suit have a cloaking function. It's a stealth feature where the nanomachines in the nanofiber will refract light in a way that turns it so natural that any other people seeing it will think that no one is there. Other than light refraction, it also conceals all heat, sound, and even the presence of it's user with the nanomachines doing all the work.
It is a specialized suit specifically made for her as a specialist on infiltration and sabotage. So this suit is just right for her.
Still, it was surprising that even with the wonders of her suit, that knife wielding guy manage to react to her.
The nimble guy was still screaming in pain when he was kicked in the head by the invisible Hinako. The ground cracks as his head hits it and he foamed in the mouth before losing consciousness.
The leader guy looks around him before he saw Austina moving forward to strike him down.
"Dammit!"
He raised his sword overhead and slash at her.
But much faster than him is Austina who smacks his sword out of his hand with her sword. Then before that sword falls to the ground, she uses the blunt part of her sword and smacks his face with it.
"GUAAAH!" He spouted as he holds his face.
It seems like he was concussed for a bit but he was still able to stand in a wobbly manner.
Without giving him time to recover, Austina whirled and using the momentum, she kicks his face in a full arc kick.
He flew in a half meter and falls to the ground with the white of his eyes showing and unconscious.
She heard someone groaning and looks at it to see that the tough guy is still conscious but he was wheezing due to the large bruise in his chest.
Hinako deactivates her stealth form while looking at him and Austina was also curious what they should do next.
They look at Aozora and seeing it, she decided to ask something.
It was afternoon when they got a cheap inn where they could stay.
Aozora was still thinking about the things that she learned after interrogating that tough guy. Of course they knocked him after they are done talking to him.
They also reported this to the guild because Aozora doesn't want those guys to use the Petition to falsely accuse them. She thinks it will be very plausible because only those three guys were crippled while the three of them are still fine.
Anyway, after it was done, she finally got to thinking about what they learned about it.
'So they have a Status Screen here just like those RPG games huh...' She thought to herself.
It seems like they have some sort of leveling system in this world, with all the things that was in it like MP and the other values. The only thing missing in it is the HP.
They have a Class System and some other bonuses that those Classes can grant them, which will boost their status further. There is also the Titles which they can acquire by achieving something or being acknowledged for it, and those titles can also increase their status and strengthen some of their abilities.
There are also the Skills which is divided into three. These are the Common Skills, which are basic skills that most people in this world can acquire by doing something or getting it when they acquire a Class. Unique Skills are something that is out of the norms to the residents of this world and only exceptional individuals from the past seems to have it. And Blessings, which is literally the blessings from the Gods or other higher power in this world.
Aozora was now convinced how those people were stronger than a regular human. They can easily keep up with two girls who can achieve superhuman feats. They have some status that enables them to do so.
It also let's her know that her girls are not that strong in this world's standards. She heard that those three guys are just D Rank Adventurers.
Which means that those who are at a higher rank are much stronger than them. It was possible that even B Class Adventurers might be able to outclass her units, much less the A Class.
And she heard that there are some S Class Adventurers in this world which are currently the strongest adventurers in the current era.
What's worrying is that even monsters are classified by this type of ranking. And these ranking seems to be the equivalent of the rank that the adventurers have.
This means that if she faces a D Rank monster, it would be like facing an equivalent of those three thugs that they defeated.
She learned that her units are not strong enough to make her feel safe. This means that she needs to become more stronger.
And to make it happen, she needs more EXP. And more EXP means killing more monsters.
The fight awhile ago doesn't seem to give any EXP. It seems like by just killing the enemy will she have those EXP.
She doesn't want to kill a person just to acquire EXP. So she decided to target monsters.
"I need more EXP so I can be safe in this world! Only when I am safe will I be able to play my Idle Games in peace!" She said to herself with determination.
She knows that this a bit stupid because Austina and Hinako are the ones who are fighting for her but she wanted to say that to pump herself up.
She decided to unlock another game that will give her a unit to ensure her safety. She will think about getting an Idle Game that she likes when she is satisfied with her safety.

So this reveals one of the aspects of the world where she is currently in. This world have a leveling system.
And just like what she said, people in this world are a lot more stronger than the people of the earth. They can easily tank a bullet if they wanted to.
They have a status which can augment their capabilities to superhuman levels. So surviving even strikes from a biologically augmented spy and a magical sword wielding princess is not surprising.
Yes, people in this fantasy world are strong. So this won't be that smooth sailing for the MC.
I hope this doesn't make this uninteresting for you.
