Chapter 7: The End Of The Affair Part 3
Cellar
The cellar is dark. Caroline has burns marks on her skin and her head is bowed. Bill is sitting against a wall. Bella is waking up from passing out, again.
"What are you?" Bill questioned.
"Human, for the last time I am human," Bella groaned.
"Wrong answer," Bill said and took the knife and cut down her forearm. Bella let out a hiss of pain.
"Why do you think that I am dangerous?" Bella asked as she curled and uncurled her fists.
"You can stop the act. It is not working. I had someone send me a message from a Victoria in Washington that you were dangerous."
"You can't believe her! She is dangerous!" Bella exclaimed panicked.
"If that is true, then why is she dangerous and you are not?" Bill asked.
"She is a vampire," Bella answered. Bill sighed and ran his free hand over his face in exasperation. He walked over to Bella's chair. "Are you going to let me go now?"
"No," Bill said and grabbed a handful of Bella's hair. "I hate liars and I am going to take care of you like all of the other monsters that I have killed."
Gloria's Bar
"So I'm confused. If we were such great friends, then why do I only know you as the hybrid dick who sacrificed my girlfriend on an altar of fire? Huh?" Stefan demanded.
"All good things must come to an end," Klaus said.
Chicago Circa 1920
Stefan and Rebekah are dancing. Klaus looks at them with a smile from his table. Suddenly he senses something and looks around. A moment later bullets start flying all through the room. Rebekah and Stefan crouch down and hide behind the bar. Stefan takes one of the bullets from the ground.
"They're using wooden bullets. They know," Stefan said panicked.
"That means he's here," Rebekah said.
"Who? Who's here?" Stefan asked. Klaus walks briskly over to the counter.
"Rebekah! Come on, we've got to go, sweetheart," Klaus orders. She gets up and Klaus grabs her.
"What the hell is going on?" Stefan demands.
"Stefan!" Rebekah shouts.
"Go!" Klaus tells Rebekah. Stefan notices Rebekah's necklace lying on the floor. Stefan is about to crouch down and take it when Klaus interrupts him to talk with him.
"Stefan. I'm sorry, but the fun has to end here," Klaus told him.
"What are you talking about?"
"You must forget Rebekah and me. Until I say otherwise, you never knew us, Stefan. Thank you. I had forgotten what it was like to have a brother," Klaus compels him and he disappears.
Cellar
Bella is unconscious while being covered in blood, cuts, and sweat.
"I want you to know, when Carol Lockwood called and told me about you...I sat down and cried," Bill confessed to his daughter.
"Dad, I'm okay. I've learned to adapt. I don't need to be fixed. I can't be fixed," Caroline tells him. Bill gets up and walks to her.
"I've always taught you to try your best. I need you to try your best now," Bill told her as he crouches down next to her and puts the bloody knife he has been using on Bella in front of her. She doesn't vamp out. "There, see? You're doing it." Caroline raises her head with tears in her eyes. She doesn't look at Bill.
"I can't," Caroline said.
"Yes, you can. Fight the urge," Bill ordered and ran a finger through the freshest cut on Bella's arm and brought it to her nose.
"Daddy, I'm starving," Caroline begged.
"I know you are, Care. Try."
"Why? You know that this isn't going to work."
"It has to work. It's the only option."
"Why are you trying to fix me?"
"So I don't have to kill you!" Bill yelled. She turns her head to face him and veins appear under her eyes.
"Daddy, I'm sorry," Caroline whispered brokenly. He raises his head.
"The sun's gone down. We'll try again tomorrow." He pets her head and exits the room. He closes and bolts the door. He hears a gun being cocked, looks up, and sees Liz standing at the top of the stairs above him, pointing a gun down at him.
"Hello Bill," Liz states.
"Put the gun down, Liz. I know what I'm doing," Bill told her.
"That's our daughter in there. She looks up to you. She loves you," Liz admonished. "And you have an innocent girl in there!" Caroline can hear them talking with her super hearing. She looks over at the other girl and wonders why in the world her father would think she was dangerous.
"Then she'll trust me to do the right thing. Let me do this, Liz. Not because she's a monster. But because we love her." Bill pleaded.
"Tyler," Liz calls out. Tyler walks in behind Liz and goes down the stairs.
"You're not going in there," he tells the young boy. A bullet flies through the air and lands with a bang next to Bill's head. Charlie appears in the doorway. "Liz," Bills tries again and heads to block Tyler. Liz then shoots next to him. Tyler and Bill stop in their tracks. Charlie keeps his gun trained on the man who took his daughter.
"Go ahead Tyler. Chief you can head down too," Liz tells the men. Tyler starts walking again. He opens the door and enters the cellar. Charlie walks slowly down to join Tyler in the cellar. The gun stays trained on Bill until he gets in the room with the two girls.
"Tyler," Caroline whispers. He rushes toward her and breaks the chains with his hands.
"It's okay. We're going to get you out of here," he tells her.
"My ring," she warns him, not wanting to burn again. Tyler takes it, puts it on her finger, lifts her and carries her out. Charlie makes his way to his daughter that is a bloody mess in that chair. He walks back up the stairs and gets in Bill's face. He shoves his gun into Bill's temple.
"My bullet is too good for you," he whispers and then pulls back the gun only to ram it into Bill's face. Bill crumples unconscious to the ground. Charlie takes in a breath to calm himself then looks to Liz. "I am going to need some help and an ambulance." Liz pulls out her cell phone.
Gloria's Bar
"You compelled me to forget?" Stefan asked.
"It was time for Rebekah and I to move on. Better to have a clean slate," Klaus explained and then drains his glass.
"But why? You shouldn't have to cover your tracks...unless you're running from someone."
"Storytime's over," Klaus cuts in. Stefan turns his head and sees Damon, who motions to come over to him. Damon then walks behind a wall. Stefan then looks at Klaus.
"I need another drink. A real one," Stefan says. Damon has just walked outside and is looking from side to side. Stefan suddenly flies at him at super speed and pushes him against a car. Stefan holds him by the collar. "What is wrong with you?!"
"What is wrong with you? You kill Andie one day, you save my life the next. What are you good, bad? Pick one!" Damon demands.
"Klaus almost saw Elena today. You have to get her out of Chicago."
"She's not going anywhere until she's got you checked into vampire rehab and on the mend. Trust me. I've tried."
"She is the key to everything. Klaus can't know that she's alive."
"What are you talking about?"
"She was supposed to die in the sacrifice and she didn't. Now Klaus can't create any new hybrids. His witch is seconds away from figuring that out. Tell Elena to go home and forget about me," Stefan orders his brother. Damon pauses a few moments then looks to his left.
"Tell her yourself," Damon tells him. Stefan looks and sees Elena standing in the parking lot. Damon rejoins Klaus at the bar.
"Last call. Drink 'em up!" Gloria calls.
"I see they've opened the doors to the riff-raff now," Klaus taunts.
"Oh, honey, I've been called worse."
"You don't give up, do you?"
"Give me my brother back...You'll never have to see me again."
"Well, I am torn. You see, I promised Stefan I wouldn't let you die, but how many freebies did I really sign up for? And clearly you want to die, otherwise you wouldn't be here, so..."
"What can I say? I'm a thrill-seeker," Damon states. Klaus extends his hand and grabs his throat.
Stefan is in the parking lot with Elena.
"You shouldn't be here," he tells her.
"Where else would I be?"
"What do you want? Damon won't be able to distract Klaus for long." She touches his face.
"Come home," Elena asks of him. She embraces him and is about to stake him in the back with a vervain dart but suddenly spins around and grabs her arm hard.
"How much clearer can I make it?" Elena feebly drops the dart at Stefan's words. "I don't want to come home!"
Klaus lifts Damon off the floor by the throat with one arm.
"Oh, dear, what was that? I'm boozey, so you'll forgive me if I miss your heart the first few tries," Klaus says and stabs Damon in the stomach with a toothpick. Damon grunts in pain. "Ohh! No, that's not it. Hmm." He stabs him again. Damon grunts in pain. "Ohh. Almost." He angles the toothpick upwards towards his heart.
"You want a partner in crime? Forget Stefan. I'm so much more fun." Klaus throws him backwards. Damon crashes on top of a table, breaking it, and lands on the ground on his back. Klaus walks over, rips a part of the chair off as a makeshift stake, and crouches over Damon.
"You won't be any fun after you're dead," Klaus says matter of fact. Then with one hand he holds Damon down and with the other he raises the stake. Just at that moment Gloria sets the stake alight with her powers. Klaus throws it away with a grunt. "Really?"
"Not in my bar. You take it outside," Gloria orders. Damon tries to sit up but Klaus pushes him back down and looks at him.
"You don't have to negotiate your brother's freedom. When I'm done with him, he won't want to go back," Klaus says and takes his hand off Damon.
Elena and Stefan are still in the parking lot.
"Klaus is obsessed with siring these hybrids. The second he knows you're alive, he'll figure out why it's not working."
"Look, I know you're trying to protect me, but I can't let you do it. Come with me, Stefan, please."
"And what do you expect if I do? Huh? It's never going to be the same, Elena."
"I know that."
"I don't think you do. I've left bodies scattered from Florida to Tennessee. Innocent people. Humans."
"Lexi found you like this before. In the twenties, and...and she saved you."
"And you know what I did after that? I spent thirty years trying to pull myself together. To a vampire, that's nothing. To you? That's half your life."
"I can't give up on you, Stefan."
"Yes, you can. It's done. That part of my life is done. I don't want to see you. I don't want to be with you. I just want you to go," Stefan states, turns around, and walks away from her.
Damon's Car
Elena is sitting in the car, looking through the window and touching her necklace while she waits for Damon. Damon enters the car.
"You okay?"
"Just drive."
Forbes Residence
Caroline sitting upright in her bed drinking from a blood bag and Liz is sitting on the foot of the bed watching her. Caroline finishes drinking and gives the bag to Liz.
"Thank you," she whispers. Caroline then lies down and puts her head on her pillow.
"Honey, your dad...all our families, we have beliefs that have been passed on through generations. And we were taught never to stray from them," Liz tries to explain.
"You did."
"You taught me to look at things in a different way."
"I just thought that he was the one who got me."
"He did. He will again," Liz reassures her daughter. Tyler appears in the doorway. Liz gets up and is about to leave.
"Hey, mom? Thanks for believing in me," Caroline tells her. "Oh! Can you check on that girl that he had in there with me? She was without a doubt human and lost too much blood." Liz nods her head and leaves. Tyler walks in.
"Would now be a bad time to give you crap about sneaking out on me?" Tyler questions. She smiles but then is about to cry. He gets under the covers and she puts her head on his chest. She cries.
"He hates me. My dad hates me. He is a monster." Tyler simply kisses her head.
Chicago
Klaus enters the room in the warehouse full of his family's coffins. Rebekah's is empty and the guardman is lying dead on the floor nearby.
"Rebekah...It's your big brother. Come out, come out, wherever you are," Klaus calls. She rushes over stabs him with the dagger. He gasps.
"Go to hell, Nik!" Rebekah screams.
Chicago Circa 1920
Klaus and Rebekah are next to a car in a warehouse.
"Hurry up, Rebekah. Let's go!" Klaus ordered. Rebekah doesn't move and continues looking towards the other end of the warehouse.
"He'll be here any second."
"Do you want to die? We've been found. We need to move."
"Not without Stefan."
"Stefan's not coming. We have to disappear. He'll draw too much attention. Let him go."
"What did you do?" She questions.
"Come on. We don't have time for one of your tantrums," Klaus takes her arm as he speaks. Rebekah shakes his hand off her.
"I don't want to run anymore, Nik! All we do is run. I want to be with Stefan."
"Fine. Then choose. Him or me," Klaus gives her the ultimatum that will seal her fate. She doesn't answer. "That's what I thought. Get in the truck. Let's go." He starts walking to the truck.
"Good-bye, Nik," Rebekah whispers. He stops walking. She turns away from him but he rushes over and drives a dagger through her heart.
Chicago
Klaus takes the dagger out of his chest, holds it out beside him, and drops it.
"Don't pout. You knew it wouldn't kill me," he told her.
"Yeah, but I was hoping it would hurt more," Rebekah said, still with the pout on her face.
"I understand that you're upset with me, Rebekah...So I'm going to let that go. Just this once. Brought you a little peace offering. You can come in," Klaus calls out. Stefan comes in but doesn't show any sign of recognition.
"Stefan..." Rebekah says with hope in her voice. Klaus gets closer to him.
"Now you remember," Klaus compels him. Now he remembers everything.
"Rebekah," Stefan says and he walks closer to her.
"Stefan," Klaus states. Stefan stops and turns to face Klaus.
Chicago Circa 1920
Stefan and Klaus are sitting at the bar. A photographer is nearby.
"Hey, buddy, take a picture of my brother and me," Stefan asks and he takes Klaus by the shoulders for the picture.
Mystic Falls Hospital
Charlie sits in that uncomfortable chair next to Bella's bed and just counts the cuts on her skin as the machine beeps. The beeping is what is keeping him going because without that his Bella wouldn't be alive. She is not out of the woods though. Dr. Fell is concerned with how much blood she has lost.
"Pull through Bells, pull through," he whispers.
Chicago
Stefan looks at Klaus.
"I remember you. We were friends," Stefan states.
"We are friends," Klaus says and He looks at Rebekah. "And now the reason you're here. Gloria tells me you know how to contact the original witch."
"The original witch?" Rebekah asks.
"What do you have that Gloria needs?" Klaus questions. She touches her neck but realizes her necklace is missing.
"Where's my necklace? What did you do with it? I never take it off!" Rebekah shouts at her brother. Stefan realizes that Elena has the necklace.
"I don't know. I didn't touch it."
"We need to find it, Nik. Now, I want it back!"
"Tell me that's not what she needs, Rebekah!" Klaus yells and she looks into the coffin but doesn't find it so she throws it on the ground. Stefan is concerned.
Salvatore Boarding House
Damon is on the phone with Katherine.
"Okay. You were right. He was there."
"I'm always right. Let me guess...it ended in tears and heartbreak?"
"Where are you?"
"Why? Do you want to come rub sunscreen on my back?"
"I'm thinking Europe. Italy, maybe. Or Spain. You were always a sucker for those lazy afternoons."
"Keep guessing, Damon. Bye-bye." She hangs up and laughs. Damon rolls his eyes at the dopple bitch and is about to throw his phone when another call comes through. It is the good old Sheriff.
"Hello Sheriff," Damon drawls.
Chicago Circa 1920
In the bar, the police are confiscating the alcohol and putting it in boxes. Rebekah's necklace is on the ground. Katherine's walks over to it and is about to take it but she looks over then disappears. Stefan walks over and picks up the necklace. She watches him. A man is behind him.
"Hey kid. Chicago P.D." Mikael said.
"I'm not afraid of you," Stefan grouched at the man.
"Oh, I'm not here for you. Have you seen these two?" Mikael asks and he shows him a drawing of Klaus and Rebekah.
"I've never seen those people before in my life," Stefan says.
"Wrap it up, boys. We're through here," Mikael orders the men around him. Mikael looks at him and leaves. Stefan has Rebekah's necklace in his hand. Katherine watches him and leaves.
Chicago
Katherine walks out of the phone booth, hails a cab and gets in.
