A/N: Thanks for coming to check out this chapter and happy reading :)
There had once been a time when Aaron would have done anything for an extra hour in bed.
His occupation meant that relaxation was a virtue and opportunities to spend the whole day lounging around were few and far between, so whenever the team had been wheels down he had made sure to take advantage. Ever since Adeline had arrived almost a week ago though, ridiculously early mornings had somehow ended up becoming something he loved. He and Emily had come to an agreement that she would look after her throughout the day, changing her diapers and nursing her so that he could catch up on some sleep, and through the night he would be the one to get up whenever she needed something. He always ended up exhausted because she was getting him up at every hour of the night at the minute, but it gave him the chance to spend quality time with her while Jack and Emily slept and so he never complained.
It was almost half-past three in the morning now and she had woken him up an hour ago in need of another bottle, but once she had drunk it she had been wide awake again and so he had decided to have skin-to-skin with her with the hope that it would send her back to sleep. It had worked as he had expected, she had fallen asleep on him less than ten minutes after he had settled down with her, but he was still sitting on the couch and he highly doubted that he would be moving any time soon. She just looked so comfortable as she slept on him, her tiny fingers grasping the hairs on his chest and her head tilted back from when she had been staring up at him, and he was mesmerized. In his opinion, she was the most beautiful little girl in the world and it astounded him how much happiness she brought him just by existing.
Running a hand up and down her back through the blanket that was covering them when she started stirring with a grizzle, he shushed her and brushed his lips against her temple before sighing with relief when she settled down again and tucked her little fists beneath her cheek. It was then that he began to sense a presence in the room with them and looked in the direction of the bedroom, his mouth suddenly going dry as his breath hitched in the back of his throat at the sight of Emily standing in the doorway in one of his sweaters. She looked incredible. The sweater drowned her and the sleeves were sliding down her arms despite how far she had rolled them up, but it looked amazing on her and he loved how her hair had started to take on its natural curl again over the past couple of days since she had neglected to straighten it.
How he had failed to notice how gorgeous she was when they had met for the first time was lost on him.
He had either been preoccupied with something else or a complete idiot and he realized that it had more than likely been the latter.
Turning his attention back to Adeline for a second, he kissed her head and mumbled: 'Your mommy is absolutely gorgeous, you know that?'
'She's six days old and you're already lying to her…' Emily tutted, her voice heavy with slumber as she started approaching the couch.
Sliding her hand into his spare one once she had sat down next to him and curled into his side, she accepted the tender kiss he gave her and sighed against him before lying her head on his shoulder when they parted and smiling down at their little girl. Even though Aaron still had yet to be convinced for some reason, it was blatantly obvious to her that Adeline was already on her way to becoming a proper daddy's girl. She was obsessed with him. Whenever the two of them cuddled together she would never stop staring at him and she always settled down so easily when she was in his arms. She had to admit that when she had been pregnant she had hoped that she would crave her touch more than his in a way, but it was obvious that she had gone completely the other way. She loved their bond though, so she honestly didn't mind.
'Are you all right?' She heard Aaron ask after they had sat together in silence for a couple of minutes.
'Well, other than waking up to see that I'd been abandoned I'm okay,' She teased. 'Come back to bed, you know I sleep better with you.'
He smirked. 'Oh, really? I hadn't noticed, the fact that you sleep near enough on top of me every night wasn't much of a giveaway.'
'Excuse me, you can't say anything. You have a right face on you in the morning if I roll away from you in the night.' She pointed out to him.
There was nothing but love in his eyes as he shook his head at her in response. 'I love you so much.'
'I love you too,' She brushed her lips against his. 'But I'd love you even more if you came back to bed with me.'
'You're not going to leave me alone until I do, are you?' He groaned exaggeratedly.
'Nope.' She laughed.
Turning his attention to Adeline again for a moment, he nuzzled his nose against her brown wisps of hair before pulling back to look at her. 'Sorry, my darling, I know that you're comfortable, but you have a very needy mommy at the moment.' He admitted while stroking her back.
'Yeah, and your daddy is going to find himself in the doghouse if he isn't careful.' Emily added, reaching out to caress her cheek.
The two of them were unable to keep themselves from laughing when they looked at each other again, and when they rose from the couch Aaron held Adeline against his chest with one arm before putting the other around Emily and escorting her back into their bedroom to bed.
