Chapter 7:
Many years ago. Humanity went through an evolution. The first recorded cases of super powered individuals were reported. Then all across the world, powers became more common. We began calling these strange powers, quirks. Then, like wildfire, they spread through the entire world. Now it's believed that almost 90% of the world's population has some kind of quirk. Almost overnight, the supernatural became the totally normal. However, there remained a few who were born without a quirk, called the quirkless. I would know about them because I used to be one of them.
My name is Izuku Midoriya, and this is how I became the world's greatest hero. But you already know that story. You know about how I inherited the quirk One for All from my idol, All Might. You know how I went to UA to train to become a hero, and how I became the number one hero in the world. However, in life, you never know what your future may hold so this is not the story of how I became the world's greatest hero. Instead, this is the story of how a new generation became something greater.
My Hero Academia Next Generation: New Heroes:
Hana POV:
As the other students and I climbed out of the large bus we'd been traveling in. I was greeted with the first sight of where my test would be. Looking up at the tall skyscrapers and giant walls of the arena, I somehow felt even more nervous than I had before. Which I didn't think could even be possible
"Where do they even get the money for this?" I heard a condescending voice ask beside me. Turning I saw the voice that had spoken these words.
A tall boy with bright pink hair and a dirty get up. Even though he was wearing a prim and proper school uniform, it seemed this boy had not a single touch of class. His entire outfit was wrinkled and dirty, his tie appeared to be cattywampus, he had a deep scar on his right cheek, and the scowl he wore well combined with the small bubble gum balloon he blew then promptly popped seemed to show he was quite the troublemaker.
"What are you looking at?" The pink-haired boy coldly told me before scoffing and walking away.
I quickly regained my senses and realized how rudely he'd just treated me. As I saw his receding pink head fall into the crowd of aspiring heroes. I thought of yelling something out to the boy. Something like "Well, fuck you too!"
However, before I could say anything I would regret. The pink haired boy, not looking where he was going bumped into a much larger student.
"Watch where you're going!" the man he had bumped into seemed to be a good eight feet tall and had huge muscles. I imagined he probably had some quirk that made his body grow to be that big. However, when he spun around, I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw that his giant body was accompanied by a tiny head.
A/N: Think of Abigail from Street Fighter 5.
"Watch where you're standing, Fudo!" The pink haired boy fired back and wasn't intimidated in the slightest by his clear size difference as he stood his ground against the much bigger man. "Or is your pea sized brain too small to know where your feet go?"
This sent a collective chill through all the students present, and even if I knew nothing about either of these boys, I could tell things were escalating fast. Suddenly a rude comment was the least of my worries.
As we all looked back over to the newly identified Fudo, we all expected him to lash out or say something back. But he just stuttered for a second, clearly embarrassed. While he stuttered, the pink haired boy just walked away casually. It made me angry to see him so relaxed folding his hands behind his head, popping another bubble, and closing his eyes again.
"SABITO!" All of us slinked away a little when hearing the powerful roar from the big man. "Get your greasy ass back over here!"
Fudo continued to yell at the newly identified Sabito, hoping to get him riled up. However, Sabito didn't react at all to the boy's harsh words, instead he took them in stride and just continued to strut away from the crowd of students that had all begun to watch the conflict. However, it looked like their fighting was over. That was until.
"Yeah, you must get that from your mom!" Apparently, that was some kind of big insult because practically all the students gasped. Not knowing anything about this boy, or his parents, I just sat there confused.
What wasn't confusing was the reaction from Sabito.
"What did you just say?!" The pink haired boy yelled back as he had now stopped in his tracks and lost all the calm relaxed energy from before. I for one didn't think a "Yo momma!" joke could cause this much rage, but that must have struck a nerve with Sabito.
"You heard me!" Fudo looked noticeably smug at this point, as he crossed his huge arms over his giant chest and continued.
"I could never figure why a big shot like your daddy would settle for someone like her. She must have other desirable qualities."
I didn't even need to know anything about Sabito to feel offended by that. Suddenly all my anger towards his rude antics were gone. Suddenly I wanted him to kick this guy's ass.
Sabito seemed to share my feelings, as he violently spit out his gum and threw off his school jacket.
"You want a fight Fudo!" He yelled at the big man while pulling a small can off his belt. It seemed like one of the small oil cans you'd buy at a gas station. Sure, enough right on the front it had some brand logo and the words "OIL."
Then, Sabito proceeded to peel the lid right off the top of the can and pour the contents right into his mouth. We all stood back, some of us scared, others impressed at the conviction of this boy. Me, I was somewhere in the middle, but regardless of how we felt, Sabito continued to chug the entire can of oil. Even as some of the black tarry liquid spilled on to his chin, he didn't let up until the can was empty.
"Then I will give you a fight!" Sabito finished his point as he crushed the now empty can and whipped the remaining gasoline off his chin with his white sleeve. Staining the already dirty material black.
"Bring it on then!" The large man stood his ground as all the students surrounding the two boys separated. However, Sabito was not one to back down either as his assumed a similar fighting stance. I grew worried for the pink haired boy as he seemed horribly outmatched by the much larger boy, but seeing the anger burning in his eyes fueled me with a desire to see him make this punk eat his words.
Then we waited, for what seemed like forever. The two enemies seemed to be in some kind of stalemate. Waiting for the other to make there move. I began to grow worried when they didn't clash, like maybe something else would happen, or this would all be some elaborate joke.
However, looking back over to Sabito, I noticed something had changed about him. For one, his entire body was faintly glowing. It was like there were tiny little lightbulbs under his skin. What was even weirder, was what happened when he breathed.
Keeping his tightly clenched jaw shut. The pink haired boy could only breathe out of his nose and every time he exhaled his nostrils would flare. But not in the traditional sense. No, his nose was literally flaring with fire.
Two small jets a fire would shoot out of the boys nose every time he exhaled. The fire seeming to grow bigger with each breath. That's when I looked up to his ears. Both of his ears were spewing a steady stream of smoke. Or was that steam. It was hard to tell, but it looked like his brain was on fire.
And to finish off the weirdness, I heard the sound of an engine revving. Like a powerful car was attempting to spin its wheels while in neutral.
Then, he attacked.
"AHHHHHH!" Sabito let out a mighty roar as fire shot from all the pores in his body, and he charged straight at the big man. His speed was incredible, he quite literally looked like a speeding freight train. That's when I grew worried for the bigger boy he was charging at. However, rather than run into the big man, Sabito ran into a wall. A wall that seemed to appear out of nowhere.
Fudo seemed to run into a similar problem as he swung his large fist but only ended up striking a wall that caused him to lose his center of gravity and topple over. That's when I noticed that the wall, wasn't a wall at all, it was a hand. Practically two hands that blocked the two boys from attacking each other.
They were grown to a gargantuan size and had a long line that appeared to be the arm of the person these hands belonged to. Following the line, we were able to see a tall red-haired woman approach us, and as her hands shrunk back to normal size, she made a tsk sound with her mouth.
"Imasuji. Iida. Can't you two not cause trouble for two minutes?" the red-haired woman condescendingly asked the two boys who were now looking up at the woman with shame in their eyes.
Recognizing her quirk, red hair, and signature hero outfit. I was able to figure out who this woman was, but someone beat me to it.
"Your Battlefist!" some random student yelled as she finally turned away from the boys and smiled at the rest of us.
"That's me!" She happily said with a bright smile. One that was quickly follow by a chilling comment.
"But you will call me Mrs. Kendo! Got It?!" the heroine aggressively asked us and we all nervously nodded. Far too scared of the martial arts hero to disagree.
While we all stood back scared, Mrs. Kendo helped the two troublemakers back onto their feet. Well, if you define "helping" as dragging them up by their ties. She did need to enlarge her right hand slightly to grab Fudo's much larger tie.
"Honestly, is it really that hard for you two to get along?" Mrs. Kendo asked the two students yet again as they came to their feet and the boys just glanced at the ground embarrassed.
"Okay, now apologize." As the heroine told the two boys, they both mistook what she meant.
"Go on!" Both said at the same time which caused a giggle to echo through the entire crowd. Apparently, both Sabito and Fudo were waiting for an apology, but were not willing to give one.
"I meant both of you!" She chastised the two boys as most of the other students, and I laughed at their goofy exchange. It took a few moments as the boys fiddled with their sleeves or scratched their heads uncomfortably.
"Uhh, sorry I guess." Sabito was the first one to muster up enough courage to apologize to the big man.
"Yeah, sorry too." Fudo responded to the pink-haired boys' apology with one of his own. Despite this, they never made eye contact and we could all pretty much tell they weren't real apologies.
"See was that so hard." Mrs. Kendo perked up and slapped both boys on the back. Her right hand having to enlarge slightly to hit Fudo's back.
Fudo Imasuji: Son of Goto Imasuji! His Quirk! Muscle Body! Every muscle fiber in Fudo's body is four times the size of a normal persons. All his muscles except for his brain.
Sabito Iida: Son of Tenya Iida and Mei Hatsume! His Quirk! Combustion Engine! Sabito's entire body acts as one giant combustion engine. Rather than eating or drinking food, he must ingest gasoline and oil. He can also turn that fuel into extreme bursts of speed and strength. As well as, turning the fuel into exhaust flames and smoke.
"Anyway!" Mrs. Kendo turned away from the two boys to address the rest of us. "Aspiring heroes!"
We all immediately stood back at attention from hearing Mrs. Kendo's powerful voice.
"You have all come here today because you wish to become heroes!" Many students nodded to themselves and smirked. However, I could not do the same. My heart pounding in my chest, I couldn't help but feel scared.
"You are all here because you wish to prove yourselves!" Mrs. Kendo continued with her speech as she was now pacing back and forth like a drill sergeant disciplining her troops.
"And you are here because you believe you are the best of the best!" This is what finally got everyone riled up. High-fiving and cheering. A clear sign that they did indeed believe this. But much like before, I could not follow their lead. I still lacked the confidence to act as I simply looked down at the cement, feeling ashamed and weak for lacking such conviction.
"However." This got my attention as I snapped up to look back at the martial arts heroine. While many of the other students stopped their actions and looked over to Mrs. Kendo as well.
"When I look out at you. All I see is wasted energy. All I see is a bunch of kids lacking focus, conviction, and willpower." As Mrs. Kendo continued her lecture, many other students began to look down as well. Seeming ashamed for their previous actions. Me. I hadn't changed. I was still just as scared.
"I see they really are scraping the bottom of the barrel this year." Placing her palm to her forehead in annoyance, Mrs. Kendo looked at all of us with a look of clear disappointment.
"But we might yet be able to make you into hero material." Battlefist's speech ended with a bittersweet tone, as she had throughly destroyed all our wills. The students now looking down and all seeming to share a look of shame.
"So, as most of you have heard. This test will consist of a free for all battle against the destructive robotic contraptions of UA support heroes." She reiterated the procedures of the exam, likely trying to intimidate us.
"While I'm sure you have heard this before." Much like with Mrs. Jirou, the martial arts heroes tone turned dark.
"These machines. They are the most dangerous and cruel machinations ever constructed by our support heroes. Make no mistake. This is not a simple task. So, before we get started. Would anyone like to get out." Mrs. Kendo stepped back a moment as she stopped her pacing and waited to see if anyone of us would step out of line. However, when no student moved, she stepped back up to us and gave us a cheeky smirk.
"Good. There might be hope for you yet." For the first time, the heroine seemed to actually be encouraging us. However, the perspiration dripping from my forehead, my nonstop shaking palms, and my heart thumping like a rabbit didn't help build my confidence.
"Once that gate opens there." The heroine turned our attention back to the main gate of the arena where our exam would be held. "Your exam will begin, and you will be given an allotted time to gain as many points as possible."
"So, get into position." Mrs. Kendo ended her little speech by shooting us a dodgy smile while turning to go back the way she came. "Oh, yeah."
"Remember to go plus ultra and all that." I laughed a little at hearing the martial arts heroines nonchalant and halfhearted attempt at a rousing cry. Her proclamation being much more toned down compared to the speech from Earphone Jack.
Nevertheless, she continued to walk away as the rest of us moved to get in front of the large gate and wait for the exam to begin. As I walked, I looked around to see some of the reactions of the rest of the students. Some ranged from scared sweaty glances like mine. Some were more confident, brushing off Mrs. Kendo's speech. Some, such as the winged boy I'd met earlier, Ronin. Simply seemed indifferent, his face not showing a hint of emotion.
The most notable came in the form of the two boys from earlier. Fudo appeared to seem slightly ashamed. His small eyes glancing down and a frown adoring his face, I suddenly felt sorry for the big man. His expression made him look like more of a crying baby than a powerful hero.
However, Sabito did not share his "friends" shameful expression, the Iida boy seemed just as angry as before. His growling face aimed straight at the big man he had tried to attack before. For a second, I became worried he might try and attack again. But right as I was about to move to stop him, someone beat me to it.
A thin dark-skinned girl with long dark green hair approached Sabito. When I say dark-skinned, I mean her entire skin color was like obsidian. It looked pitch black. It was kind of off putting, but I'd just seen a woman turn her hands to be the size of a pickup truck. I got over it fast.
"R-REYNA!" The pink haired boy had a very profound reaction to seeing this girl, and I laughed a little at hearing the aggressive boy's voice crack for a moment and his face become consumed by a deep red blush. As I turned away to follow the rest of the crowd, I could no longer hear what the two were talking about. However, taking a couple glances behind me to see them I could see Sabito's expression soften as this girl, Reyna held his hand and must have said something that got to him.
"Keep moving." One of the students barked at me as I was forced to look away and keep following the crowd. I was eventually able to turn my head enough to catch one more fleeting glance at the two of them, and it was sweet what I saw.
Both the pink and dark green haired friends touched their foreheads together as they closed their eyes. They did this before slowly embracing. This was followed up with them hastily breaking it off and turning to run to catch up to the rest of us, hand in hand.
It didn't take much critical investigation to figure out the nature of their relationship. But I didn't have time to worry about the bad boy and his silent friend. I will admit though it did feel good to finally have most eyes no longer trained on me. Ever since strolling up in by old "rags" and unremarkable frame, I seem to receive concerned glances every second. Whether it be the heavy hitters looking at me like I was chum. Or the snobby ones looking down on me. I had got a lot of attention.
Funnily enough, I could think of a blonde bully who belonged to both those groups. However, that was beside the point.
The point was it felt good to be… "normal" for a moment. All the students, being pulled to the two boys fight, and the two lovebird's display left me alone as a spectator, and it felt good.
CREEEEEEAK!
The high-pitched screeching of the old gate slowly opening brought me back to my senses.
"Aspiring heroes." We all heard an unfamiliar voice speak over the loudspeaker and saw the entrance gate was beginning to open. Sweat running, and heart pounding. I got ready as almost all the other students and I assumed running stances.
"Your exam has begun!"
Then we all took off. Running straight past the gate. Straight into danger. Just like any hero.
Moments Later:
"Ahhhhh!" okay maybe screaming and running wasn't the most heroic act, but I didn't really have a choice.
All around me, chaos was quite literally unleashed. The many other students were smashing their way through the machines as they seemed totally capable. It turns out that confidence I was worried about. Yeah, it played a huge factor.
"Outta my way!" I pivoted as fast as I could as the pink-haired troublemaker, Sabito burst past me. Engine exhaust flames shooting out of his back as he ran straight through two of the robots directly in front of me. His speed reminding me of his father Ingenium.
But I didn't have time to worry about that because as I looked up, I was met with an interesting sight.
Descending right down on me was a large mechanical griffon with sharp talons aimed right for me.
"Oh crap." I said to myself as I dived out of the way of the beasts lunging attack. For the first time I was thankfull for the training Deku had made me endure.
Landing with a roll, I quickly turned to see where the monster had gone. Only to see the beast was plummeting straight for me. The only difference being it didn't seem to be alive.
Dodging yet again, I was barely able to make it out of the way of the falling metal contraption. However, as I looked at it, I could clearly see how it had been destroyed. All along it's exoskeleton where sharp ice shards that seemed embedded into the machine. Just to make sure I was seeing things right I walked over to the machine and touched the cold ice, and sure enough.
"Ow!" I hastily pulled my hand away from the shards when I touched it and realized it was cold to the touch. Looking back up into the sky, I was able to see the man responsible for this act.
Ronin, the winged boy from earlier was showing very clearly how his wings worked exactly. As he soared right over all the other students, he looked so free. Like a bird in the wind.
That was before he changed his momentum and dived straight for one of the smaller robots on the ground. For a second, I thought he was going to ram into the machine. However, right before crashing into the metal contraption. Ronin changed his momentum and swung his wings straight at the machine.
This caused tons of ice shards to go flying off his cold wings and flying right into the robot. The shards traveling as fast as the boy had been. These shards seeming so cold they expanded and froze other parts of the machine. Needless to say, the metal monster ceased any attack it could have produced.
Ronin then just hovered in front of the beast for a moment, before lightly kicking its frozen head. Causing it to tip over and fall off it's body like he was kicking a soccer ball. This sudden movement cause the rest of its exoskeleton to fall apart as the rest of the beasts' frozen limbs followed suit.
"Hhm.' Ronin lightly smirked at this as his indifferent face finally broke and he let out a cheeky smile. Before taking off and flying straight to his next target.
Ronin Todoroki! Son of Keigo "Hawks" Takami and Fuyumi Todoroki! His quirk! Ice wings! Ronin has a set of wings much like his father that give him enhanced speed and mobility as well as allowing him to fly. However, this has combined with his mother's quirk. Completely incasing the appendages in ice. This allows him to send out shards of the ice to freeze and attack opponents in a similar way to how his father sends out his feathers. The only difference being he can't control the shards. Because of the nature of the ice. If he uses too many shards or exposes his wings to too much heat. The ice will melt off and his wings will be temporarily unusable.
Shaking off the impressive display from the winged boy. I quickly ducked away from the action and hid in a nearby alley away from the rest of the action.
"Come on! Come on!" I tried to psych myself up as I pumped my fist multiple times. Remembering to clear my head. I took a deep breath. Which didn't make me feel any better and I focused on thinking about this new quirk inside me.
"It works by stockpiling power, and with every user it only grows stronger." I flash backed to an old conversation I'd had with Deku. While I was taking a break from my training one day. I had decided to ask him about One for All. I remembered his face shrinking but he still decided to tell me what I wished to know.
"However, if you can't properly control it. This quirk. It will destroy you." Deku continued to speak as his tone dropped to a chilling note.
"So please. You must practice control. Your strength, it is not all you will need." And that's how I began to practice my breathing.
"Inhale. Exhale. Inhale Exhale." I thought to myself as I took deep breaths in through my nose and out through my mouth.
Boom!
I flinched a little when I heard an explosion behind me. My heart started racing and my breathing became more rapid.
"Calm down!" I told myself as I concentrated on controlling my breathing and slowing my heart rate.
"Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale."
With that last breath. My eyes opened and I felt my body begin to move. It felt just like when I had acted before. That feeling of your body acting on pure instinct. However, this time I felt in control. Like my mind and body were actually connected.
Stepping out from the alley, I knew I was ready, and what I was greeted with would test my abilities.
Looking over, I saw it. The giant armored red and blue one-million-point robot. It was only a few meters away, and It seemed just as threatening as before.
Several students we're fighting it. Using a multitude of powers to try and damage the beast. However, non of them even managed to scratch its armor. The robot then attacked after the students had tired themselves out, it's blue side turning ice cold and shooting a chilling ice wave out to all the students. This was followed up by a hot heat wave from its red side. Then it began to shoot mini bombs out of its grenade gauntlets, forcing the rest of the children to run away injured.
This was my chance. The robot briefly let out a big puff of smoke as it began to cool down, stopping as it had overheated. I knew I was only gonna get one shot and this was it.
Preparing myself, I made sure to check my stance and put my feet out wide and focused on my breathing one last time.
"Inhale… Exhale."
With one last deep breath I felt stronger then ever, and as I looked down at my hands, I could faintly see red cracks arcing across my body. They formed a pattern that almost looked like Deku's scars. However, I couldn't focus on that right now.
"Total concentration." I whispered to myself as my entire body felt like lightning, and appropriately enough, I could feel bursts of energy arcing off my body. It almost felt like little lightning bolts shooting out. As I saw glimpses of the light. I could make out the yellow orange bolts as they flashed all around me. It almost felt too easy. That's when I remembered something.
"So, my advice, try and think of something building power, but still being contained." Thinking back to Deku's words. I remembered his advice and the thought he'd put in my head.
"Think about the bullet in the gun! Think about the bullet in the gun!" I yelled in my mind as I felt the power rising. Wind whipping around me and the ground shaking.
"One for All! MAX POWER!" Finally, I could feel my body was ready. I planted my feet preparing to swing right at the robot. It's cooling process ending meant I would only have a few more moments.
Sucking in my gut, taking a deep breath, and reeling my fist back. Which caused my entire right sleeve to be ripped off my shirt. The fabric being torn to shreds as all the lightning and energy traveled to that one extremity.
"DETROIT!" The robot finally seemed to notice me as its cooling jets shut off. It was now or never. So, I planted my feet, straighten my back, and smiled brightly. Ready to show Deku, show my sister, show all these people my strength.
"SSSSSSMMMMAAAA- "
"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
…
I stopped my arm mid swing as I felt something was wrong. My senses had been on such high alert that when I heard a shriek come from behind me. I stopped all my momentum and spun my head around.
"Ahh." The second scream came out as more of a whimper as I finally saw what had made the loud noise.
A few blocks down, I saw the winged boy from earlier, Ronin. Only now he looked like he was in a much more compromising position. Trapped under a bunch of debris, as a large robot began walking towards him. The robot had clearly been attacking him when the now destroyed building next to him had toppled over.
His wings trapped under rubble and the large robot advancing on the boy. He seemed helpless.
But he wasn't. I was here.
But I was only gonna have one shot at this. Looking back up at the one-million-point robot, I could see it's metallic face contorting and changing until a large barrel appeared and was pointed straight at me. I didn't need much evidence to deduce what the monster was about to do. It really was now or never.
However, looking back over at the winged boy, I could see the other large robot had reached its victim. It didn't even seem to have any weapons. This was further confirmed when it picked up its big metallic foot and was about to bring it down to stomp right on the helpless boy.
His frantic movement and horrified expression told me everything I needed to know. But this robot. I was sure it couldn't have been worth more then one or two points.
I had to make a decision and fast.
"HHHHMMM!" Hearing the light humming of the one-million-point robots large cannon, I knew time was up. So, I made my decision.
Turning on the balls of my feet I took one step away from the one-million-point robot, and one step closer to the winged boy.
However, after moving my right foot and entering a stride. I felt my legs get energized, and my arm quit feeling so heavy. Following this, my jeans ripped apart, the release of energy ripped them to shreds. Then, something miraculous happened.
It was like the entire world stopped. Picking up my feet as best as I could, I noticed the giant robot's falling foot slowed to a crawl. The wind stopped whipping around me. The million-point robots canon had fired, but the bullet was barely even moving.
For a moment I thought it was someone's quirk. Maybe an ability that slows time? But then I realized it.
Time wasn't slowing down. I was speeding up.
Realizing what was happening, I tried to quicken my pace. Hoping to reach the robot before it crushed the dirty blonde-haired boy. But with every step I felt my legs ache more.
"Think about the bullet in the gun! Think about the bullet in the gun!" I thought to myself trying to stop the pain in my legs. However, the pain never ceased. It felt like they were burning from the inside. Like with every step I took, thousands of pounds would be added.
But I kept pressing on. With one singular thought.
"Save him! Save him! SAVE HIM!" I told myself as I was almost there. The metallic boot so close to flattening the boy, and against all odds, I made it.
"AHHHHHHH!" I let out a yell as time returned to normal. Sticking my hands up, I stopped the descent of the giant's foot. I thought for sure I would be flattened, but One for All must have improved my strength so much I could hold up the entire machines weight.
Looking down I noticed Ronin had briefly flinched, but when he looked up to see me his face changed. Becoming a mix of sadness and confusion, he seemed to have one question on his mind. "Why?"
"It's okay. It's okay." I told him between hasty breaths as I tried to calm my breathing.
"Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale." I was able to settle my senses but that did not ease the pain. Both my arms and legs felt like they were on the verge of exploding, and I knew when this adrenaline high subsided, it was going to be even worse. But I couldn't think about that right now.
"Remember, if you ever feel scared. Try and deal with it by smiling!" I thought back to Deku's advice as I saw how scared the boy was.
"It's okay. I'm here." I told him as I once again attempted to adopt the symbols famous smile. I only wished it could've helped my body.
"AHHHH!" I let out another yell as I felt the weight I was holding increase drastically, the machine pushing down harder, seeking to crush me, and the boy.
I fell to my knees as the pain in my arms only grew. Ronin flinched once again, and I realized I had to do something to get this robot off us. That's when I knew what I had to do.
Focusing all my energy, I took in one deep breath, filling my lungs with some much-needed air. I looked straight up at the mechanical monstrosity and prepared myself. Much like before, I readied my body by transferring all the power I could into my arms.
Snap!
"AHHH!" I let out a pain-filled shriek as I felt my legs break under me. The pain causing a tear to roll down my cheek. I felt lightheaded and I could tell it would only be moments till I passed out from the pain. So, it was now or never.
Letting go of the big piece of metal, I looked straight up to see the flat surface plummeting straight for me. However, using the back swing momentum I pulled my arm back, feeling the same rising power from before. I swung my fist straight at the surface, and I could only say one thing.
"SMMMMMMMAAAAAASSSSSHHHHH!"
I yelled from the top of my heart as I saw a bright flash of light and felt a huge release of power.
Boom!
The next thing I knew, I was flying through the air. My half-lidded eyes were able to make out a couple of images. I saw the large metallic leg shoot up. Then I saw the robot begin to tip, the force of my punch causing the beast to fall over and tumble into a nearby building. I thought for sure I would follow suit. The explosion sending me flying till I broke my back against the concrete walls of one of the skyscrapers, but as I closed my eyes, I felt my body lift up. Almost all my nerves were so fried that I couldn't feel anything other than the pain in my arms and legs anymore. However, opening my eyes, I was met with an interesting sight.
"Hey, hey it's okay." The winged boy Ronin had caught me. Using his wings to fly up and catch me out of the air. I imagined the explosion must have removed the rubble from his body. The dirty blonde boy's usual indifferent face was much more concerned.
"You're alright." Ronin told me again, but I could tell he was worried, and following his gaze I could see why.
My right arm was completely broken. Not just broken, contorted. The entire extremity was bent and twisted. It looked like the flesh had been pulled in all directions, and rather than having that usual pink color, the skin was blue and purple. All of it looking like one giant bruise. I imagine it would have hurt like hell if my entire body didn't feel the same way.
"No. No. NO!" I thought to myself as I felt my body slipping into unconsciousness. The pain becoming too unbearable.
"I need to get up! I need to fight!" I told myself as I tried to force my body to move. But all I could manage was to slightly wiggle my toes and fingers. Which hurt a lot.
"Hey, Stop! Stop! Please!" Ronin practically begged me to stop moving as he could see how much it hurt.
"Please! Stay still!" With these words, we both allowed tears to fill our eyes. I could feel my mind reeling and I knew I was about to pass out. I could see the edges of my vision growing darker, and right in the middle of it was the winged boy who'd caught me. Now trying his best to put on a smile as I had.
"It's okay. I'm here." He told me as my vision turned fully black and my mind shut off from the pain. The last thing going through my head were three words.
"I'm sorry, Deku."
