"You know... I always thought of getting myself a new game because I miss the thrill of adventures." Rufus admitted, "But this... is not what I had in mind." he confessed.

Rufus alongside a girl are seen standing in front of a booth as a group of six grunts surrounds them.

"How did it come to this?" Rufus questioned in annoyance.

EARLIER THAT DAY

It was a nice evening in PC Kingdom, we head towards the MMD Stage - Cafe (created by Mr-Mecha-Man) where we see Bowser and Gandondorf Dragmire having a conversation at one coffee table when Kamek approaches them and another coffee table, we see Nick and Hikari hanging out while having a lively conversation.

And at another table, we see Rufus, Luigi and the Player Character having a conversation. Well... Luigi and the Player Character were the ones having a conversation while Rufus sits there with a hand under his jaw, looking all bored.

"Ever heard of the recent robberies going on in the Nintendo Kingdom and XBOX Kingdom?" PC inquired.

Luigi nodded, "Yes, I-a-have." he confirmed, "And from what-a-I have-a-heard it is-a-done by two people." he shared.

"Nothing is stolen as of yet but these kind of things is pretty concerning." PC stated.

Luigi nodded, "Indeed." he said in agreement.

PC then turns to Rufus, "Hey, Rufus!" he called out, "What do you think?" he asked.

Rufus turns to his friends in surprise, "Uh... whut?" he muttered in confusion.

"We just-a-want to hear your-a-opinion about the recent-a-robberies at the Nintendo-a-Kingdom and XBOX-a-Kingdom?" Luigi inquired.

Rufus sighed, "I don't know." he answered, "I haven't been updated with the news lately." he explained.

"Something wrong?" PC asked, "You seem to be in deep thoughts." he pointed out with Luigi nodding in agreement.

Rufus sighed once more, "It's just... I'm feeling bummed out because my game ended." he answered.

Luigi and the Player Character gave Rufus a look of disbelief, "Dude..." PC uttered, "Your game ended in 2016 and your feeling bummed out just now!" he exclaimed in disbelief.

"I know that it sounds stupid, no... it's really stupid but that's just what I'm feeling lately." Rufus confessed, "At first I'm okay with it but after these years, I feel like I'm being left out of the spotlight." he explained.

"Well... at least your-a-game, Deponia Doomsday got-a-Switch release back in-a-2019." Luigi pointed.

Rufus scoffed, "Yeah... but that hardly gives me any relevance." he replied.

"Your games still have a cult following and it's considered a hidden gem by a lot of outlets." PC pointed out in reassurance.

Rufus sighed for the third time, "I appreciate that but... it's just not the same as before." he said before getting up the table and proceeded to make his way out of the cafe, leaving his two friends behind.

"Wowza..." Luigi uttered, "He really-a-misses those days where his-a-games are still on-a-going." he stated.

"Can't blame him though." PC admitted, "Unlike the two of us who are staying in the video game scene for the time being, we don't know what the future holds for guys like him." he pointed out.

"I can-a-tell that he-a-misses the thrill of an-a-adventure." Luigi commented.

PC sighed, "Then he shouldn't have left the World Super Protectors." he replied, "He had something at least to do there." he stated.

Later that day in the PC Kingdom, we head towards the [Stage Flood JP Stages] Japanese Festival (created by amiamy111) where a festival is being held with various booths and stalls stationed all around the place.

Amongst the characters attending the event are Honoka, Marie Rose, Pit, Lucina, Farah Oersted, Jimmy Hopkins, Nathan Drake, Sly Cooper, Raphael, Phantom Thief Chloe, Blinx the Time Sweeper, Bubsy the Bobcat, Lloyd Irving, Colette Brunel, Tony Hawk, Bea, Marshmello, Big the Cat, Asuka, Katsuragi, Hibari, Ayame, Helena Douglas, Tina Armstrong, Lisa Hamilton, Bass Armstrong, Wario, Waluigi, Larry Lovage, Needles Kane, Scarlet, Chase, Strider Hiryu, Hotsuma, Taki, John Price, Samus Aran, Wayne Holden, Ajna, The Heavy, Andy Bogard, Guile, Mario, Bowser Jr., Lakitu, Pikachu, Lara Croft, Geralt of Rivia, Sonic the Hedgehog, Solid Snake, Kratos and Link.

Entering past the main arch of the area is a girl. The girl has a short and slim frame with fair skin, chin-length brown hair with a long strand on the left side, and brown eyes. She wears a gray hoodie over a magenta button-up dress, tartan green socks, and brown boots with lighter brown laces. She also wears black modesty shorts and dons a dark green and white tam o' shanter on top of her head. This is Gloria.

Gloria let's out a sigh, "Why do I have to come here alone?" she questioned herself.

Days ago, Gloria invited her friends for the festival, they all agreed and are excited for it but on the actual day of the event, she find out that her friends were caught on a busy schedule and couldn't come, much to her dismay.

Gloria let's out another sigh, "Guess I'll just have fun in this festival all by myself." she muttered in disappointment before walking ahead.

As this is going on, Rufus arrives and began to take a look around the place, wondering what's this all about.

Rufus then shrugs his shoulders, "Might as well." he said, "I got nothing better to do." he mused before walking forward.

And once Rufus and Gloria are seen further away from the festival's entrance, we see two figures arriving the area.

The first figure is a young woman with a grayish skin tone, she has a long darkish-blue with blade-like tips and has crystal-blue eyes. She wears a yellow-colored buttoned vest over a white long-sleeved collared shirt with baggy sleeves and a blue ribbon tie, gray high-waist pants, dark-blue socks and brown & black shoes. This is Vera Symptoms.

The second figure is a tall and large man with a muscular physique and square-shaped jaw. He wears a black biker helmet with straps and spikes, and wears goggles with red-colored lens. He wears a brown biker jacket with no shirt underneath, black pants with a brown belt and black combat boots. This is Flak.

Vera looks around with narrowed eyes, "Keep your eyes widen open, Flak." she advised, "What were looking for could be around here." she declared.

Flak responded with a salute, "Yes, Lady Vera." he complied.

Later that afternoon, we see Jimmy, Blinx, Bubsy, Lloyd, Colette, Andy and Guile gathered around a booth with Rufus and Gloria joining them. The booth is filled to brim with various items and is currently manned by three boys.

The first boy has a slightly short stature with jet black hair with three strands on top, brown eyes and pinkish skin tone. He wears a yellow polo shirt with a purple collar/sleeve hems and a vertical red stripe on the right side. He also wears light blue pants like most of the other characters, as well as a wallet chain and plain red shoes. This is Eddy.

The second boy has three black hairs that stick out of his hat but facing downwards. His two most notable physical features are his big chin and the gap between his teeth. He wears a red T-shirt, purple shorts, long red thigh-high socks, cyan-colored shoes, and a black ski hat with two white stripes on each side. This is Edd, also known as Double D or Edd.

The third boy is tall, he has a yellow skin, a light blue colored tongue, horse teeth, ginger hair in a buzz cut, a black unibrow, and turquoise eyes. He wears a baggy purple/blue pants, large black shoes and a red & white striped T-shirt. He also wears a dark olive green jacket with brown lining on the inside and with white sleeve stripes on the outside. This is Ed.

"Welcome to the Ed's Everything and Anything Emporium!" Eddy greeted everyone, "Need something? We got it here!" he declared, "From mugs to bags, cellphone straps to impossibly heavy museum doors, we got it all here!" he endorsed with Double D and Ed holding up a green-colored cup and a bottle of sleeping powder respectively, "Latest rumors and gossips are available here as well!" he added, "And all for one lousy dollar." he finished.

Jimmy scoffed, "Oh yeah?" he questioned in annoyance, "I'll give you a dollar if you can provide us a very rare rumor that no one has ever heard of!" he challenged with everyone muttering in agreement.

Eddy chuckled, "Easy-peasy~" he mused, "Double D?" he ordered with a snap of a finger.

Double D brought up his tablet, "Let's see..." he muttered, "Marvel's Avengers facing scathing feedback from critics after the Hawkeye DLC failed to impress and rekindled hope." he read out loud.

"We've heard that before." Lloyd said out loud.

"What about... Sony officially killing stores for PS3/PSP/PS Vita without any game preservation resolutions." Double D shared.

"We saw that in the news!" Blinx pointed out.

"Activision facing massive backlash?" Double D informed.

"Heard that in the news as well!" Bubsy replied.

Eddy then turns to Double D with a glare, "Double D! I thought I told you to gather rumors and gossips, and not news?!" he reprimanded in disbelief.

"I'm sorry, Eddy." Double D apologized, "But you do realize that I'm more into news and not gossips." he reasoned.

Ed then spoke, "Oh, oh! Me! Me!" he called out, "I had a rumor that I wanna share!" he exclaimed and at the same time, a figure arrives at the back of the crowd.

The figure has the head of a light-brown colored teddy bear with beady black eyes &nose with a small tuff of hair on top, and has bear paws and feet. He wears a white labcoat with blue trimmings over a dark-blue high-collared shirt with a blue lining and a circle in the middle of his chest and wears brown pants. This is Risukuma.

"This oughta be good." Eddy mumbled with a blank look.

Ed then turns to everyone, "Did you guys know that a mystical artifact is accidentally got shifted in this festival?" he inquired which got everyone's attention including the newly arrived Vera and Flak, "It's called the Perenimat Amulet." he revealed, "And it is said that it has the powers to takeover someone else's body!" he exclaimed in excitement and at the same time, tossing the bottle of sleeping powder into the air.

The bottle then went down and bounces on Rufus and Gloria's head respectively, the two were then showered by blue-colored glittering powder, much to their dismay but both had no idea that it's sleeping powder.

"Owie!" Gloria muttered in pain.

"Hey! Watch where ya tossing that?!" Rufus chastised in annoyance.

Ed gave them an apologetic look, "Sorry." he apologized, "Anyway... I got this rumor from a forum and from what I've read... there's a possibility that the Perenimat Amulet is being used as a prize in one of the booths here." he explained.

"Ed..." Eddy spoke in awe, "Regardless whether that rumor is true or not, you actually just shared a very interesting rumor." he admitted while accepting a dollar that Jimmy begrudgingly handed.

Andy then turns to Guile, "What do you think about this?" the younger Bogard asked.

"If that's true then we should check around each booths." Guile beckoned, "We can't let such a dangerous item like that being used as a prize." he stated.

After that, everyone left the booth while going on different directions, leaving the Eds behind waiting for another set of customers to entertain.

Further away from the booth, Vera and Flak are seen having a conversation.

"Looks like we came to the right place after all, Flak." Vera said with a grin, "Do you know what that means?" she teased.

"We're gonna go and play games?" Flak replied in excitement.

Flabbergasted by his response, Vera shook her head, "W-What? No!" she rejected, "Listen... as much as it's easy to win that item from a game, people will recognize the item and will suspect us if we managed to obtain it." she explained.

"I see, I understood, Lady Vera." Flak complied.

"Now... what we're going to do is wait for the festival to close and after that, we'll ransack each and every booth until we find that item." Vera explained with a devious smile.

As this is going on, we see Gloria running across an empty lot of the festival, looking around for some quiet spot to rest but as she does so, her steps became heavy and her movement is beginning to go slow.

Her legs starts to wobble and her eyes are starting to get heavy, Gloria let's out a yawn, "Why am I so tired?" she questioned, "Weird... because... I've been sleeping well lately..." she stated, "Maybe... maybe... I should sit down for a seco-" she was saying only for her to fall asleep mid-sentence and then falling down the grass and started to snore.

And at the same time, we see Rufus sleeping soundly face first on the grass between two booths and no seems to notice it.

Later that night, the festival is officially closed and it's currently empty of people... save for two sleeping people.

Gloria's eyes snaps wide open, "Ah!" she gasped in shock as she quickly got up the ground, Gloria then dusted herself before looking around when she realized that it's dead of the night and it's eerily quiet which made her nervous, "Umm... hello? Hello!?" she called out before walking past a booth, "Where does everybody go?" she asked nervously, "Anybody? Hello?" she called out again but no one responded, "Hellooooooo~?" she called out once again but got no response, "Wh-What time is it?" she asked herself, "Guess I need to call mom to pick me up..." she uttered before patting her pockets and checking her bag, Gloria facefaulted, "Aaand I left it back home." she concluded, "Ugh..." she groaned in disbelief, "I guess I'll just... walk home then..." she beckoned before walking towards the main entrance of the festival only to find the gate is closed and is chained up neatly from top to bottom, "Oh no! The gate is all chained up!" she exclaimed in panic, "How am I gonna get out?!" she shouted in despair.

"Hey kid?" a voice greeted.

"KYAAAAAAAAHHH!" Gloria screamed in fright at the owner of the voice.

And the owner of the voice is none other than the main protagonist of this fic, Rufus. The goggles-wearing man raised his hands up in response, "Woah! Woah! Calm down, kid!" he advised, "I'm not here to hurt you and sorry if I startled you." he apologized in reassurance.

Gloria quickly recognized Rufus as the person who got hit by the same bottle of powder alongside her back at the Eds' booth. She then calmed down and took a few deep breaths, "Okay..." she uttered, "I'm sorry for screaming at you." she apologized.

"No worries." Rufus reassured, "I would have done the same thing." he admitted, "Anyway... what are you doing here at a time like this, kid?" she questioned.

Gloria rubs the back of her head, "I... I don't know..." she answered with an uncertain look, "I suddenly fell asleep during the day and when I woke up it's already dark." she explained.

Rufus scratches the stub on his chin, "Guess we're on the same boat." he pointed out, "I suddenly fell asleep in-between two booths during the day and when I woke up it's the dead of the night." he stated, "What heck caused us to fall asleep anyway?" he questioned in disbelief.

Gloria thought about it, "I remember some glittering powder spreading all over us when Ed accidentally toss a bottle on us." she recalled, "I can assume that it's a sleep powder or something." she speculated.

Rufus facefaulted, "So it's those guys' fault then." he concluded, "I'm sooooo getting them after this." he muttered in annoyance, "Welp! Might as well get out of here." he beckoned.

"But the gate is all chained up." Gloria pointed out.

"What?!" Rufus exclaimed in shock before walking towards the gate is all chained up neatly from top to bottom, "I know they want this place free from robbery but this over the top." he commented in disbelief.

"So, what should we do now?" Gloria asked.

"Guess we'll just have to climb this stupid thing." Rufus beckoned before grabbing the handle bars and was about to climb when he noticed a bright light coming from the distance, "What the..." he muttered with squinted eyes before his eyes widen in horror when he realized that the source of light is coming from a getaway van and it's heading straight towards their direction, "Oh shit..." he uttered.

"W-What's wrong?" Gloria asked in concern.

"I think we should move out of the way..." Rufus replied.
