Chapter 7: A lamb's confession for a feline's affection
It was Friday, the start of summer, the weekend was around the corner, and for the inspiring artists and party goers in PaRappa Town, it meant only one thing: excitement at Club Fun! This week, they were hosting a talent contest of sorts, it wasn't much of a competition as much as it was just for some people to go out, maybe get a drink, and sing in front of others, either in a group, or solo. Whatever the performances were, the event was always a surprisingly exciting time for everybody involved who just wanted to go in and have some fun!
For a certain Rockstar lamb, though, it was a bit nerve wracking, but not for the reason most would expect, especially when they knew her personally. It wasn't stage fright or performance anxiety in front of an entire crowd, she's gotten used to it, thanks to her little fifteen-minute adventure to get to MilkCan's first concert, and more importantly, Master Onion for teaching her that with her guitar in her mind, anything was possible. That wasn't what was going to bother her…This time, she felt as if all the stress and anxiety was going to be coming from one single viewer. Katy.
She never brought it up in front of anyone before, not even those in her closest circle of friends. Not that she didn't trust them, but she had a feeling someone would spill the beans. She's had a crush on her bandmate for the longest time, as far back as their first live concert if she had to try and remember how long it's been. She remembered it all too well.
"ALRIGHT! Wasn't that a groove?!" Katy asked as the crowd cheered them on. "Thanks everyone!" She grinned as she and Lammy strummed the last note of their song Got to Move.
" Yep! Who's my next challenger?!" Lammy called to the crowd as she waved her free hand, a sense of pride, excitement and accomplishment washing over her. In the moment, she didn't feel nervous, jumpy, and she sure as hell didn't want to run off and hide. For once in her life, she felt in the zone!
Once the trio took their bow, they left the stage and started making their way back to the changing rooms, the cheers of the crowd getting more faded as they got away from it. Lammy put her guitar strap over her shoulder, and had it rest on her back as they entered the changing room. Ma-San let out a sigh as she sat down, Katy was hoping around in excitement over how well their show went, and Lammy sat down to get some of the makeup off. She was never a fan of removing the stuff…it took so much time.
"That was amazing!" Katy squees as she hoped about the room, death gripping her bass guitar. "Not to toot our horn, but we were incredible!"
("Heh…No kiddin.") Ma-San smiled tiredly, surprisingly worn out from the performance they just had. ("Can't wait for the next show.")
"Me neither." Lammy smiled, focusing on her reflection as she finished wiping the eyeliner off. Next thing she knew, she found herself in a tight hug by Katy.
"You were really great out there, especially!" The feline smiled. "I've never seen so much confidence flowing from you before!" Hearing this, the timid lamb blushed a bit, her heart was racing, and her hands felt a little clammy.
"Y-You think so?" She questioned, smiling sheepishly, feeling a few brain cells powering down.
"Of course!" Katy grinned, and in her cat like nature, she nuzzled the lamb's cheek. It was in that moment, she felt something click in her mind, and in her heart. From that moment on, whenever she was even near Katy, she couldn't help but feel warm, fuzzy, and just a tiny bit nervous. But she never had a chance to tell Katy how she felt…little did she know, Ma-San could see that infatuated look on the lambs face in the mirror's reflection.
Lammy had signed up for a solo performance. For her, playing a song on stage, on Talent Night, it felt like the right way to do it, to confess her feelings to Katy. She even practiced singing in her spare time, and she felt she was finally ready, the problem now though, was how was she going to approach this? She could sing one of the cat's favorite songs, but there was so many she could pick from…She could try and write her own song, but there wasn't enough time for that. Plus, writing a song wasn't all that easy when compared to just playing the music. Melody has to sound nice, lyrics, they have to flow with the song, and there were the instrumentals…she was working with just her guitar, she didn't have time to learn a different instruments. Plus, she just wanted to play solo…after she and the other girls open for the night as discussed with King Kong Mushi. With a sigh, and her guitar in her lap, she reached over for her phone and started looking at the songs on her playlist, looking over the ones she thought Katy would like to hear.
"…Too sappy…too fast…too slow…" She'd mutter to herself as she slowly scrolls. She couldn't help feeling a little frustrated with choosing a song. Katy absolutely LOVED music of any kind, especially ones that put her in a good mood. Lammy had to think strategically here…what would get her feelings out there without it being painfully obvious? She slowly laid back on her bed, holding her phone out in front of her face, still scrolling through the list of songs, shooting down a good chunk of the list. "No…No…No…God, I thought this be a lot easier…"
"What would be?"
"EEP!" She jumped a bit, face going red when she saw Katy at the door. She thought she closed it! How much did she hear?! "N-Nothing! J-Just clearing out m-my playlist!" She explained, hoping her bandmate would buy that.
"Uh…alright?" Katy thought it was weird that she was being flustered about it but chose to shrug it off before moving towards the bed, Lammy scooted over a bit so she could sit down. "So! You excited for tomorrow night?"
"O-Of course! It's always a good time when we p-play at Club Fun!" The lamb smiled, trying not to be awkward about it. She didn't even tell Katy she signed up for a solo performance.
"Hell yeah, it is!" Katy grinned, her tail slowly swaying back and forth in excitement. She then noticed the lamb was fidgeting a bit. "…You okay?"
"Y-Yeah, just…just been thinking a lot." She said, putting her phone down to rub the back of her head.
"…About what?" Katy cocked her head ever so slightly.
"N…N-Nothing too important, just some…random stuff." She said, shrugging just a little bit, though the redness on her cheeks told Katy otherwise.
"What kinda random stuff?" She asked with a smirk.
"J-Just stuff…!" The lamb said with a nervous chuckle.
"Uh-huh…well, while you're thinking about stuff, I'm gonna head out and get us dinner. Ma-San said she's in the mood for Chinese. You want anything in particular?"
Hearing the mention of food seemed to have subsided the lamb's nerves. "C-Chinese sounds good. I'll have the sweet and sour chicken."
"Alrighty." She nodded, grabbing her phone to write down the order in her note app. "Be back later!" She smiled softly as she got up from Lammy's bed and left the room to go get their food. The lamb sighed before laying back down again and started going through the playlist once more. Her ear flickered at the sound of the front door opening and closing, indicating the feline leaving.
("So…") Ma-San spoke up, standing by the doorway and catching her attention. Lammy lifted her head up, looking at the mouse drummer before sitting up. ("Ya gonna tell her or what?")
"I…I don't k-know what you mean…t-there's nothing to tell." Lammy gulped, the blush returning to her cheeks as some sweat raced down her face.
("Bulllllshit.") Ma-San crossed her arms, smirking. ("You're crushing on Katy and haven't even worked up the nerve to tell her!") The look on the lamb's face was a dead gave away to her to say she was right.
"H-HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?!" Lammy was practically shaking in fear that someone had figured it out.
("Lammy, that night after our first performance in our changing room, I saw that look on your face when she hugged you.") The mouse said as she climbed onto Lammy's bed. ("It was pretty clear from the get-go that you started crushing on her right then and there. Honestly, I'm surprised SHE hasn't caught onto it, she's normally good at spotting these kind of things!")
The timid lamb couldn't help but agree with her. She couldn't believe she got away with this crush for so long herself. "H-Heh…yeah, guess you sussed me out…"
("Well, come on, tell me what is it about that cat that you like? What is it that you're letting her sink her claws into that heart of yours?")
"Y…You're going to tease me…"
("…I mean, in any other circumstances, sure I will, but this time, I promise, I will not tease you.") She put one hand over her chest and held the other hand upwards. ("Scout's honor.")
Lammy looked at her for a short moment, her cheeks getting redder as she thinks over how she wants to word it. She let out a soft sigh as a sheepish grin grew on her cheeks. "I…I guess it's the little things…the way she laughs, even at the dumbest jokes…her optimism and excitement are just infectious…listening to her play her guitar and sing late at night helps me relax, especially if my anxiety is skyrocketing for some reason and my mind is just racing…she's kind…pretty…" The blush grows till her entire face is red, the grin getting a little dumb looking. "Thoughtful…and the way she stands up for us and the others is admirable…" Without realizing it, she spaced out slightly. When she snapped back, she looked over at Ma-San, who, to her surprise, was smiling…she wasn't smirking this time. "Y-You wanna say something, I can tell…"
("…Lammy, that might've been the sappiest thing I've heard in a while, but…I can tell you have genuine feelings for Katy, especially since you explained all of that without stuttering a single time.") The drummer crossed her arms, smiling approvingly. ("Why haven't you confessed to her before? To me, it feels like you've had plenty of opportunities to do it")
"I don't know…I mean, you're right, I did have plenty of chances! I tried to tell her whenever I could, but for whatever reason my nerves get the better of me and I…I just stop. But I think I figured out how to work around it…I'm going to do a solo performance tomorrow night at Club Fun."
("Ah, planning on serenading her huh? Cliché, but always an interesting choice. Are you writing a song, or just gonna play one?")
"Just playing one…don't think I have time to come up with a new song before tomorrow night…but now my problem is I can't pick one."
("…Lemme see your phone.") Lammy blinked at the drummer but quietly handed her the phone. She watched quietly, cocking her head as she adjusted the grip on her guitar. After a moment, Ma-San tapped a finger on one of the songs and handed the phone back to her. ("This one. Play this one.")
"…You sure?" Lammy stared at the song selection on her screen, surprised by the drummer's choice of song.
("Wouldn't have picked it if I weren't. Or you could wing it all.")
"U-Uh…a-alright." She nodded a bit before turning the phone off and pockets it. "I trust you."
("Good…look, you're going to do great tomorrow. Practice that song, get those nerves of yours under control, and she'll be yours.") Ma-San smiled before hoping off of the bed. ("Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to keep an eye out for Katy and let you know when dinner's here.") Lammy watched her bandmate walk off, and once she was gone, the lamb took a deep breath, put her ear buds in, and started listening to the song so she could practice. She wasn't expecting Ma-San of all people to give her the pep talk, but she did appreciate it.
The crowd applauded as MilkCan bowed, Katy and Lammy stepped off the stage, while Ma-San and a few of the stage assistances moved the drums.
"Alright, I'd like to thank the gals of MilkCan for opening up Talent Night! If any of ya are nervous, just remember to Keep your head up!" King Kong Mushi laughed as the applause dies down, the girls catching up to their friends in the audience. Everybody was able to show up! PaRappa and Sunny decided to have a duet, PJ was at the turntables as always, though for him it was a pretty relaxing evening. He wouldn't have to play unless someone requested him to play, so he could just kick back and munch away on his snacks. Matt, Paula and Joe were just there to see the show and give moral support for their friends. Heck, Colonel Noodle was able to close up early to join in on the fun! Little did people know, Gaster and Groober had snuck inside and was hiding behind some boxes. It was easier than they thought it would be seeing as the place doesn't have a bouncer guarding the front door.
"Everybody ready for the real fun tonight?" Mushi questioned and was quickly answered by cheers from the crowd. "Alrighty! Well, the first one to perform for us, is someone I think needs no introduction! Heck, she just played for us just a minute ago!" The MC laughed a bit. Katy's ears twitched when she heard that and looked to her bandmates. "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, you know her, ya love her, she literally went to Hell and back just to perform her first concert ever! Give it up for Lammy Lamb!" The club was quick to applaud as a soft spotlight shined on the timid lamb. She chuckled a bit as her friends, aside from Ma-San, gave surprised looks as she hugged her guitar and ran back up to the stage. Katy's jaw dropped…SHE was going to perform?!
The feline could feel a rush of dopamine flow in her mind as her friend took the stage, this was going to be her first solo performance! She couldn't help but let her tail wag in excitement, letting it hit Matt and PaRappa in the sides.
"H-Hey!" Matt jumped a bit at the first whack he felt from the cat's tail. PaRappa on the other hand just shared Katy's excitement, not really minding he was getting hit, his own tail was wagging, and much like a child on a small sugar high, he was bouncing in his seat. He always said Lammy should get her own solo, and now they were going to witness it!
Lammy smiled sheepishly as she waved to the audience, and Mushi gave her a quick handshake. "Go whenever you're ready, girl." He encouraged before heading behind the stage's curtain. The cheering died down, Lammy adjusted the grip on her guitar, she took a deep breath, got ready to play the song…
Then, all at once, anxiety hit her like a freight train…
Her heart was starting to beat faster, her breathing got shorter, the entire club just scaled outwards and her vision started to blur as she begins to tremble. All she could see was Katy, the smile on her face slowly fading into an expression of concern.
"Oh no…" She thought. "No, not now! I need this!"
("Oh no…") Ma-San, face palmed. She knew this could happen, but there was nothing she could do to stop it to help the poor lamb.
"I…Is she okay?" Paula asked in a hushed murmur to the rest of the group.
"She's having a panic attack…!" Sunny put a hand over her mouth, while Gaster and Groober snuck out of the club. Katy stood up and approached the stage, the closer she got, the more jittery she could see the lamb was.
"Lammy? You okay?" She asked, slowly reaching her hand out to the slowly hyperventilating lamb. Without saying a word, Lammy jumped off the stage and charged right out of the club, almost knocking a few of the other patrons to the floor as they spun in a comedic fashion. "L-Lammy!" Katy called just as she busted the door wide open as she ran out. PJ lifted his DJ glasses, caught off guard by what just happened. Surprised, Mushi returned to the stage.
"Looks like she'll have to perform later!" He said, trying his best not to make light of the lamb's anxious behavior. "In the meantime, let's keep the party going! Up next is PaRappa Rappa and Sunny Funny!" He stepped away from the mic and pat Katy on the back, signaling her to make sure her friend is okay. The feline nodded and hopped off the stage and did her best to follow the lamb outside, but by the time she got outside, she managed to catch a short glimpse of the fleeing guitarist turn down one of the streets. Ma-San looked to the door, then to PJ…a small idea had popped in her head. She got up from her chair and approached the snacking bear.
"I can't do this…I CAN'T, do this!" was the mental mantra repeating in Lammy's mind as she raced through the streets of PaRappa Town, trying desperately to fight back the tears that were slowly welling up. Looking around, she quickly ducked into the old performance theater. It might have been refurbished and fixed up thanks to her and her friends, but not a lot of people used it still. Thankfully, the door was still open. She slowed down once she reached the auditorium itself, looking around at the empty seats before sitting down on one of them right in front of the stage, one hand on the neck of her guitar, the other covering her eyes as she rubbed away the tears that finally broke out.
"Why did I think this was a good idea?" She grumbled to herself as she pulled her hand away from the face, staring at the floor as her ears folded downwards. The one thing she tried to fight, her own anxiety overpowered her, on stage, at the worst, goddamn possible time. Letting out a bit of aggression, she rams her elbow backwards into the seat next to her, and given it was one of the seats that weren't fully fixed, it snapped right in half and fell back. She didn't even flinch at the loud crash it made as it hit the floor.
"All I had to do was play…just play a single fucking song…!" She huffs as she rested her head on the head of the guitar, tapping her forehead against it. "Lammy, you anxiety ridden moron…why couldn't you keep it together?!"
"Pretty good question if you ask me." She nearly jumped at the sound of the voice. Looking up, she saw the smug grins of Gaster and Groober on stage, arms crossed as they stared at her. Under any normal circumstances she'd probably be freaking out, but with her guitar in hand, that and the fact her mood was just shot, she just did not have the mental energy to see them as a possible threat. "A shame, I was looking forward to your performance."
"…What do you two want?" She sighed, rubbing her face again to get some tears out. "Wasn't burning my apartment enough?"
"Oooh, someone's a little fussy." Groober chuckled in that husky voice of his. "What's the matter? Ya pissed with yourself because you ran with your tail between your legs?" The cat smirked when he saw her eyes drift away so she couldn't make eye contact, confirming his little teasing claim.
"Poor thing!" Gaster tilted his head left and right as he said that before he started laughing. What he wasn't expecting was the lamb to rip one of the theater chair arms off from where it was, which again, easy when most of the seats were poorly repaired, and chucked it at him, nailing him right in the forehead and making him fall flat on his back, and making Groober step back a bit, hands up when he saw Lammy getting ready to throw another one.
"Alright, alright, we'll stop!" the cat said as he helped Gaster back to his feet. "Geez, can't handle a little teasing…"
"Teasing? You almost burned my home down, you lunatic!"
"Keyword's almost." Gaster comments as he dusted himself off before seeing the lamb was getting ready to throw again. "Kidding! Just, put that down!" Lammy huffed, steam escaping from her nose as she put the arm rest down.
"Fine…Why did you guys follow me here from club fun? What do you want from me?" She let her guitar rest against the seat next to her before crossing her arms. Gaster grabs the lapels of his jacket and adjusted it with a slight flick of the wrist.
"I want you to grow a backbone." He responds, copying her arms crossing. Hearing that caught her off guard a bit and she rose a brow. "I know what you were going to do on that stage, ewe girl. Don't start playing dumb with me either! I recognized the look on your face when you froze up, I was there myself once."
Groober blinked and looked to the purple rabbit, surprised. "You were, boss?"
"Don't interrupt, Groober, it's rude." He snapped his finger, pointing at the cat, who just rolled his eyes in response. "It was a few years ago…there was a beautiful poodle woman I've had my eyes on…gorgeous voice, fur that would shimmer in the sunlight…she was lovely. I had plenty of chances to try and ask her out. Puh-lenty! Each time, I'd get too shy to do it…then one day, when I finally felt I worked up the courage to do it, had some flowers, chocolates, I was ready!" He took a deep breath, already getting a little agitated. "I was too late…another bastard swooped in and swooped her off her feet. Of course, it had to be the one man a lot of women swoon for…Joe Chin…"
Lammy felt an alarm blaring somewhere in the back of her mind. She wasn't surprised Joe was involved in some form, why wouldn't he be? But at the same time, he managed to get into her group of friends, which just gave these two a bigger reason to go after them. The subsided panic started to grow again…
"I'll keep this short and sweet for ya, toots, I'm sure we were all followed here, and the two of us will have to bail fast…playing that song is the best chance you're ever going to get. Ya blow it off now and you're going to lose whoever you're hearts after; you'll never get that chance again."
"…Why are you…"
"Lammy! You in here?" Katy's voice could be heard from the main hall, getting the lamb's attention. She turned towards the door, seeing the feline herself poking her head into the auditorium. When she looked back to the stage, the two were gone. Slowly, she grabbed her guitar by the neck and pulled it towards her as she heard Katy jogging to her by the sound of her footsteps. Her eyes drift to the floor again, ears tilting downwards. "There you are! Are you okay? What happened back at the club?" She asked, sitting next to her friend on the broken seat.
"…N-Nerves got the better of me…" She sighed quietly.
"…You wanna talk about it?" Katy questioned, gently putting her paw on the lambs back. "It's been a long time since you've had an attack like that…even then, I don't think it's been as bad as this." Lammy kept her eyes on the floor, figuring it'd be a little easier to talk about it.
"It's…It's not because I was about to perform in front of people…" The lamb started.
"I kinda figured." Katy smiled softly. "But if it isn't the crowd, or that you're playing alone, then what is it?" Lammy felt a small lump in her throat. She felt she had to dance around why she was doing the performance in the first place. She closed her eyes and rested her forehead against the head of the guitar.
"There's…there's someone at Club Fun right now. Someone I have a crush on…" She admits, hoping her friend didn't catch onto who she was talking about. When she opened an eye to look at her, she could see stars in the cat's eyes, along with the dumbest grin she's probably ever seen, her tail flickering about to indicate her excitement.
"You're in love?!" Katy squealed, grabbing the lamb by the shoulders, catching her off guard. "Who is it?! How long have you had your eyes on them?! Tell meeee!" She couldn't help but shake the lamb in her excitement.
"K-Katy!" Lammy managed to squeak as she was shaken. "Sto-o-o-p shaking me-e-e-e!"
"Oop! Sorry, Lammy." She chuckled a bit before letting go. "But come on, tell me the details!"
"I-I'd rather not…" She said, running a hand run through her hair to fix it.
"What? You think I'm going to spoil it?" Katy tilts her head.
"N-Not at all! I just want it to be a surprise!" She gulped a bit. "But they're why I wanted to play on stage, I want to impress them…but the second I got ready to play, I guess the idea of being rejected just took over and let my anxiety skyrocket…"
"That's…understandable." The feline nodded. "Confessing can be really difficult, but you shouldn't run from it! If you do, you could miss the chance, and given you want to sing them a song, this is the best shot you have!" Lammy's eyes widened a bit…for a moment she could almost hear Gaster's voice in her head as Katy stood up. "You got to believe in yourself, Lammy! You have to fight through those nerves, don't let it stop you! I believe you can do it, you have to try again!"
"B…But what if s-she doesn't like me?"
"SHE?!" Katy's eyes widened at the confession, but she shakes it off the sudden shock finding out her friend was into grils, she can get excited about it later. "Why wouldn't she like you? Look at you! You're Um Jammer Lammy! Everywhere you go mosh pits follow! You're brave when you have to be, you're kind, you never put yourself before anybody, you're fun to be around and you're probably the BEST guitarist around! You're an amazing girl, Lammy, and anyone who says otherwise is out of their mind!"
Hearing all of that, the lamb's cheeks became a deep shade of red. "She really thinks that of me. Oh, please don't let me pass out from hearing that!"
"Come on…" The feline smiled and held her hand out to her bandmate. "I think Parappa and Sunny are about to finish up their song…do you want to try again? It's fine if you don't, but…I think you should give it a shot." Lammy looked at her hand before shyly taking it and stands up with her guitar in her other hand. With that, the two leave the performance theater, as Gaster and Groober peaked out from behind the curtains.
"…So, why'd you do that, boss?" Groober crossed his arms as they step back to the stage. "Given what we're tryin' to do here, that felt pretty out of left field."
"I don't know…guess I just want to prevent that lamb girl from having the same Joe Chin experience I had…" Gaster huffs, hands in his pockets before jumping off the stage. "C'mon, they should be gone now."
Katy and Lammy walked down the streets of the town, the night sky shining with the stars above, a soft wind breezed through every now and then, but it kept the weather at a comfortable level. Katy was happy to get back to the party, and see the other shows, but Lammy was still pretty nervous about trying to play the song again, and the feline could see it whenever she looked over at to see her looking down at her guitar, ears folded downwards.
"…Y'know, this might sound silly, but I've always heard there's a special kind of magic when music's used to confess your love." She was hoping what she was going to talk about could give her friend a small confidence boost. It did seem to catch her attention at least.
"M…magic?"
"Yeah! How was it explained…? Basically, it's said that if you perform the right song in front of your crush, it'll feel like the world just fades away around you and it changes…I guess it's supposed to be like you two are in your own music video."
"T…That does sound nice, but…now I'm worried I won't play the right song…"
"If it helps, I want you to try something. When you go on stage, close your eyes, take a deep breath, maybe count to five and then play. Don't focus on the crowd unless you want to. If you believe the song you want to play is the one, just go for it." She gave Lammy an encouraging smile just as they stop at the walkway to Club Fun. "…You ready?"
"…I guess…" She nodded as they walk down, and step inside, just catching the end of PaRappa and Sunny's performance.
"Everything's alright…" Sunny hummed.
"Now that we, have each other." PaRappa followed up.
"Together and forever…!" The two sung together as the song came to an end, the audience cheering. Katy sat down with the others while Lammy, taking a deep breath, made her way to the stage. PaRappa spotted her and smiled.
"Alright Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls! Our good friend Lammy's back! What do you say, you ready to take the stage?" PaRappa asked as Lammy put her guitar strap over her shoulder. She couldn't answer, but she nodded her head, smiling at the short dog. "Cool! Let's try this again, everybody put your hands together for Lammy Lamb!" The audience applauded as PaRappa put the microphone back on the mic stand, him and Sunny walked off stage, and Lammy approached the mic, adjusting it to her height. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and counted to five as she prepared herself. That's when she heard a soft rhythm being played. Opening one eye, she saw PJ was playing his deck, bopping his head up and down to the beat. He looked to her, smirking as he gave her a thumbs up. With a smile, she closed her eye again. Though, she did practice one song, something told her to just wing it.
Stage 2: Open that heart (solo)
Lammy started tapping her foot to the rhythm, once she got the feel for it, she began strumming her guitar, playing the melody to the song she had practiced with. As she played, something odd started to happen. Katy's eyes widen a bit as club fun started to blur around her, the only person coming into view was her bandmate on the stage. She couldn't hear anything besides the beats from PJ's deck and Lammy's guitar. Everything just seemed to vanish around them before the feline could see that they were now by the park, standing by the rail overlooking the river. She could see the lights of the buildings on the other side of the river, and the moon's natural light shine and shimmer in the water's reflection. She looks over to the lamb, her eyes were still closed as she continued playing. Her mind drifted onto the melody being played, it was a lot softer than what the lamb would normally play with her electric guitar. It set the scene perfectly…
It was then, that it clicked with her; She was Lammy's crush.
"Always had something on my chest…" The lamb hummed.
"Admitting it though, never knew when was best…
"My Nerves always get the best of me.
"But I'll power through it, so you'll see…" Lammy opened her eyes and looked over at Katy, finally taking notice that they weren't in the club anymore. It took a minute to sit in that maybe the music video thing that was mentioned had more merit to it than she thought. But she didn't let the change stop her. She couldn't back down now, she had to finish this.
"I had been warned.
"Don't miss my chance.
"I'll take their advice.
"And make my stance…
"You've always been there, been a guiding soul.
"Can't imagine us ever being too far apart…
"I'll fight through Hell, keep my nerves under control.
"I just hope you'll open up your heart…" Lammy continued to play the melody of the song, getting a little closer to Katy, who just stood there, a visible blush on her cheeks. The two could feel their hearts beating to the rhythm of the beat PJ was playing, the lights in the buildings across the river, which still reflected off of the waters, were changing to more softer colors to match the night sky. Slowly, either they started to hover upwards, or the world fell under them, while the lights remained where they were, and they were soon amongst the stars.
"There's so much to say.
"Hard to decide where to start.
"But I've come this far.
"It'd be a crime for me to restart!
"I love the way you sing.
"I love the way you laugh.
"Even the smallest things.
"Like how you sign your autograph!
"I always listened to you practice.
It helps me relax during the night.
"Sometimes I'd fall asleep to it.
"That's when I'll know, things are alright…" The two stopped just by the edge of the beach, the lights getting a little brighter. The beats playing from PJ's deck were slowly fading as Lammy's strumming started to ease.
"I had been warned…
"Don't miss the chance.
"I'll take their advice.
"And make my stance!
"You've always been there for me. You've been my guiding soul!
"Your bass skills are a work of art, your smart, don't want to be taken from you, never want to be torn apart!
"I'll fight through Hell, keep my nerves under control!
"At the end of the day, I hope this will open your heart…
"Open up that heart…
"Open up that heart…
"Open up that heart…"
As the lamb strummed the last note, she reached over and held the cat's hand, the world slowly faded out until they could see they were back at Club Fun, both on stage as the crowd cheered. For once, the cat was completely speechless. The lamb shyly waved to the crowd, letting her guitar hang before she moved the strap over to her other shoulder, so it was on her back, and walked off stage with Katy, still holding her hand.
Lammy's mind was racing over the fact she managed to do it as they returned to their seats with the others.
"S-So…I'm your crush?" Katy asked, looking at her.
"Mhmm…" The lamb nodded, blushing a bit as she looked at her out of the corner of her eye. Without missing a beat, Katy wrapped her arms around her bandmate, now girlfriend, nuzzling her cheek.
"Why didn't you ever tell me?"
"H-Heh, always got too shy to do it…" She admitted, trying not to laugh, as Katy's nuzzling was tickling her a bit. Gaster and Groober were hiding in the club again and had caught the whole show.
"Heh…good on ya, Lamb girl." Gaster smirked.
After the show, everyone left the club, saying goodnight to each other before heading their separate waves. The MilkCan girls walked together, Ma-San walked on ahead while Lammy and Katy stayed behind a little, holding hands, listening to the sounds around them, such as cars driving in the distance, or the odd cricket chirp and owl hoot. They didn't say a word, just taking in the audible ambiance around them. Ma-San would get annoyed every now and then when she realized she had to stop to wait for the two lovebirds to catch up.
("I swear, it's like they're dragging their feet…") The drummer shook her head.
Once they got back to their apartment, Lammy got ready to go for her room to sleep, but she was surprised that Katy still had a grip on her hand and was grinning as she dragged the ewe to her room. Ma-San couldn't help but smirk as she approached the door to listen in on them. What she heard was a bit surprising…the two were playing their guitars…and they sounded amazing…better than they've ever had when playing together over the couple of years they've performed as MilkCan. She didn't think it was possible! As if their harmonizing had improved tenfold. She sat down, resting against the wall, feeling pretty relaxed at the tune they were playing.
("Huh…this must be what Lammy was talking about…this does feel soothing to listen to…") The mouse smiled, and once the two finished, she could hear a soft giggle from Katy. Slowly opening the door, she could see the cat aggressively nuzzling into Lammy's cheek as they were both wrapped in each other's arms in an embrace. She could even hear purring coming from her feline bandmate, which that in itself was pretty rare. With a shake of her head and a smirk, she left the two alone and went to her room, retiring for the night.
