Chapter 5: First day of learning
The next morning Harry woke up to the sun beaming through the windows, getting up he got into his uniform and went out to the common room, upon entering the common room he sees Gabby surrounded by guy's trying to get her attention.
Seeing this Harry starts to feel jealous and the room starts to lightly vibrate causing everyone to stop what they are doing and look around; Gabby looks round and sees Harry and runs over to him and gives him a hug.
"Harry, what's wrong? The room is vibrating" Gabby whispers in his ear, as Harry calmed and relaxes into the hug.
"Sorry I don't know what came over me, I felt something seeing them trying to get so close to you, I'm sorry" Harry whispered back.
Hermione came out of the girls sleeping quarters to see Gabby and Harry hugging and a group of boys basically snarling at Harry as she walked over to them both.
"two questions, one, are you two dating or something? And two, I'm guessing this is the reason half the common room is growling?" Hermione asked, sending Harry and Gabby blushing.
"I-I-I-I, W-WE-WE…" both Harry and Gabby stuttered when Fleur appeared behind them.
"answer one, no but they might as well be, answer two, yes they are but mainly at Arry," Fleur said teasingly.
"FLEUR!" Gabby shouted, jumping from her sneaking up on them, this caused Harry to go a brighter shade of red and remain silent.
"First years gather here; we will go to the dining hall first to get some breakfast then we will have our tour; other years get your timetable from the desks" a prefect called out.
"I shall see you at lunch, no kissing her Arry, not yet," Fleur said, poking her tongue out and walking over to a desk with the fourth-year timetable.
Harry goes red and holds Gabby's hand and looks into her eyes blushing at Fleur's comment till Hermione coughs and jolts them.
"We are moving now I think the tour is starting" Hermione states giggling.
-Hogwarts morning after sorting, Gryffindor tower-
A red-haired boy gets up and goes down to the common room and starts talking with some of the first years.
"I can't believe Harry Potter ran away from home to France no less," the redhead said to a boy holding a toad.
"I know, it seems strange, I was looking forward to meeting him," the boy said as his toad jumped from his hand.
"TREVOR! get back here" he said running after the toad.
A sandy-haired pale-skinned boy walked up to the redhead.
"I'm Seamus, did ya hear about Potter?" the boy said in an Irish accent.
"I'm Ron, yes shame really" the redhead replied to him.
"a total disrespect to the flag and his family, in my opinion, he should never have done that, if I ever meet him, I will show him how to respect the flag" Seamus stated leaving a confused Ron.
"disrespect to the flag?" he questioned.
"aye, he ran away from the united kingdom, the British flag and went to the French and is now attending Beauxbatons" Seamus stated as others agreed with him.
"can't blame him though, I hear Beauxbatons is where most of the Veelas go, I wouldn't be mind at all" Ron claims and most of the males in the room agree when a red-headed girl appears.
"Ron you are disgusting, I can't believe I am your twin, If Harry has fallen for a Veela I will do everything in my power to show Harry the truth of what a British girl is really like," the girl says and goes to leave the common room.
"and you called me disgusting Ginny," Ron stated and headed down to the great hall.
-Beauxbatons, end of the tour-
"And that concludes the tour, if you ever get lost you can always ask one of us prefects I would rather you asked your own house prefect but it isn't too bad if you can't find one of us," the male prefect said before taking them to the dining chamber to receive their timetables.
Entering the dining hall they see someone at their house table and the three walks over to the female prefect.
"names" the girls asked.
"Gabrielle Delacour" Gabby stated and received her timetable.
"Hermione Granger," she said and received her timetable.
"Harry Potter" Harry stated and the girl gave him his timetable but let it fall before he could touch it and huffed as she released it.
After the three get their timetable, they go outside the chamber and stand in a courtyard by a fountain in a triangle Gabby in the middle Harry on her left and Hermione on her right, they decide to examine their timetables.
"So me and Gabby have potions and defence against dark arts together," Harry said to the two girls.
"me and Hermione have charms and arithmetic together" Gabby said looking at both her and Hermione's schedule.
"and it looks like we all have astrology and transfiguration together," Hermione said, upset that they are split apart for most of their lessons.
"it could be worse; we could be completely split all year" Harry stated and holds Gabby's hand in his left hand and looks down when he cannot feel it.
Trying not to let annoyance show on his face that he cannot feel Gabby's hand he switches sides and holds her hand in his right hand, Hermione goes to place a hand on Harry's shoulder but Gabby seeing Harry's face annoyed at himself shakes her head at Hermione who nods and lowers her hand.
"Harry, what class you got tomorrow?" Gabby asked, placing a hand on top of Harrys.
"hmm, oh uhh-" Harry jolted and looked at his timetable.
"I have got Charms class, then we all have transfiguration after" Harry stated.
"I have nothing today but I think you two have Charms in ten minutes you, you two should hurry," Harry said pulling Gabby in for a hug and gives her a peck on the cheek and turns around to give Hermione a hug but nervously switches to a handshake and then he walks off.
"what was that about?" Hermione asked, confused.
"He was about to be more open and less defensive with you, normally only me and my family are the ones he's open with but he is still defensive, no idea why he's so open with me though" Gabby claimed as her and Hermione started to walk.
"I think it's because he likes you and you like him as well, but I was on about his hand he said it doesn't affect him but it clearly did" Hermione stated causing Gabby to blush to realise she got the wrong end of the stick.
"t-t-t-that is also him being defensive, he dropped his guard, for some reason he is most comfortable and relaxed when he can feel me, whether it's because I've been there for him since we met or other reason, he is always calmer and less guarded with me" Gabby explained as they got to their classroom.
-Beauxbatons, astrology tower-
"stupid, stupid, stupid bloody hand" Harry stated to himself over and over again and looked at the wall.
"Feel something already, anything," Harry said as he punched the wall with his hand, not feeling anything.
"feel it, feel, feel, FEEL!" Harry shouted at the wall repeatedly punching it, crying, unable to feel anything in the hand.
Deciding to stop when after he punches the wall, he sees blood on it and looks at his hand, swollen, bruised, scorched and bloody, Harry decides to slide down the wall and sit on the floor.
Shielding his hand between his stomach and knees in a way that does not get blood on either and casts a transfiguration charm on it to conceal it then suddenly everything went black.
-Beauxbatons, dining chamber, night-
Gabby and Hermione are already in the chamber when Fleur sits down to join them.
"How was your first day?" Fleur asked her sister.
"it was interesting, we had charms today, we learnt the Lumos charm," Gabby said excitedly.
"It's good because now I can read even when it gets dark" Hermione stated and Fleur and Gabby giggled causing Hermione to giggle then Fleur looked around.
"Where is Arry? I thought he would be with you two" she asked.
"no we haven't seen Harry since we left for charms, he wasn't even at the common room, we checked their first and the prefects didn't see him walk in," Hermione said also looking around.
"I'm getting worried" Gabby stated and stood up "I'm going to look for him, you two stay here in case he comes back," Gabby said looking at Fleur and Hermione.
"But you don't know the building or where Arry is," Fleur said looking worried.
"I know that but I feel like I do know but I can tell why," Gabby said then walked off leaving Fleur and Hermione there to eat and wait.
Following her gut instinct, Gabby walks all the way up to the astrology tower and looks around and sees Harry on the floor.
"HARRY!" Gabby shouted and ran to Harry's side and saw the blood on the wall behind him.
"HARRY, HARRY!" Gabby called to him while shaking him.
Groggily Harry opened his eyes.
"Ga-Gabby?" Harry looked at her.
"Why are you here?" Harry asked, confused.
"looking for you, you weren't at dinner or lunch I got worried" Gabby hugged Harry.
"What happened, why is there blood?" Gabby asked as she helped Harry up.
"nothing happened, I-it was there when I got here" Harry lied.
"Let's go down for dinner, there should still be food there," Gabby said holding Harry's right hand.
Down in the Dining chamber, Harry and Gabby were eating alone, everyone else had finished and went to their dormitories. All that remained was Harry, Gabby, Hermione, Fleur and a few other students.
"Harry what's wrong with your left hand, you haven't used it since this morning" Hermione commented looking at harry.
"n-n-nothing, I just fell asleep awkwardly on it earlier and it's not properly awake, not that I can feel if it's awake or not" Harry said while continuing to eat.
Fleur leaned over to Harry.
"The problem with transfiguration magic is sometimes they can be seen through" Fleur whispered to him.
"I'm not hiding anything; I'm going to bed early. I have charms first" Harry said and gave Gabby a hug.
"Goodnight, mi lady" Harry said to her and walked off.
Gabby blushed and finished eating.
The next morning Harry takes a seat inside the charms class when the teacher walks in.
"I am professor, Jon Havet, I am your charms professor, each lesson will be graded by merits whoever has most merits at the end will earn the chance to learn a new charm at the end of the year" the male brunette professor explained.
Harry nodded in acknowledgement, noticing that he was separated from everyone around him like an outsider Harry could only focus on the lesson.
"today we are going to learn the Lumos spell, it is handy for enlightening dark situations and for finding things that are lost," the professor explained .
After spending half an hour explaining the theory and how the spell works, he tells the students to start practising, For Harry, he just smiled having already mastered the spell himself he went up to professor Havet.
"I would like to show my work, sir," Harry said and professor Havet nodded.
"Lumos," Harry said and enlightened his wand with a blue light making Havet really impressed while others around him can only manage a dim green light.
"Two merits to Mr Potter, well done, welcome to Beauxbatons, I would like to speak to you after class for a couple of moments," Havet said impressed.
Harry went and sat down and a girl with greenish hair and came and stood next to him.
"hi, I'm Joanne D'Larc, I was wondering if I could study with you" Harry looked at her.
"it's fine if not, I just noticed that no one wants to be near you for a couple of reasons of which I don't actually care about" Joanne said to him still not getting a response and went to walk off.
"I-its fine, no one e-else is sitting here," Harry stated sliding a book of his knowledge he has about Lumos to her.
Joanne smiled and sat down and studied the book.
"ahh ok that makes more sense, picturing the brightness of the light rather than the amount of magic being put into it," she said and after studying she cast the spell making a cyan coloured light.
"1 merit to Joanne" Havet announced.
After the lesson, Harry went to Havet.
"you wanted to speak to me sir?" Harry said as the last person left.
"yes, I understand that after the daily prophet things have been unfairly hard and I noticed that it only got worse because of your closeness to Gabrielle, think of this as a challenge to yourself but never feel afraid to ask for help, there is always two sides to a story and Rita only ever writes one side, go on getting to next class but remember help is always around for people who ask," Havet said you Harry who said thank you and left.
After Harry left charms class, he went back to his common room to get black and met Gabby and Hermione, Harry had black coiled around his left arm and hand, Gabby had her owl in its cage and Hermione had a ginger cat in her arms and they headed to transfiguration together.
Entering the class the three see almost everyone there with their animals as well and find a seat to sit together.
"Hello, I am Professor Barton, you met me on the arrival day, I will be your transfiguration teacher, as you probably know all your classes will be awarded by merits, let's go through and you can each introduce yourself and animals" Barton said as she scans the room and starts at the back.
"I am Joanne D'Larc and this is my friend snuffles. He is a snowy owl" Joanne said.
Going through the class one by one introducing themselves and their animals she gets to Hermione.
"I am Hermione Granger; this is my friend crook shanks she is my-" she stops herself realising she forgot how to say cat in French and Gabby helps her.
"my cat," Hermione said, going red.
"I am Gabrielle Delacour, this is my friend Beaky, a great grey owl" Gabby announced.
"I am Harry Potter and this is my friend black, he is an adder, don't worry he is harmless," Harry said and everyone around him started whispering and looking concerned.
"well it's nice to meet you, black" she nervously walked back to the front as the snake bowed.
"and it's nice to meet everyone else as well, today we are going to learn how to transfigure your partner into a water goblet" Barton got a pidgin from a birdcage and pointed her wand at it.
"vera verto" she said and the pidgin turned into a goblet.
"Now you try whoever can do the best will get two merits, after that it's only one merit," Barton said and then went through the theory of the spell and process.
Everyone started to do the spell, some only managing half transfigurations others not at all, Hermione managed a half transfiguration.
"1 merit to miss Granger" Barton announced.
Gabby managed a partial transfiguration; all that remained of the original form was the wings.
"1 merit to miss Delacour" she announced.
"sorry black, I don't know if this will hurt or not, I hope it won't," Harry said in a hiss and black nodded its head.
"it'ssss ok harry" black acknowledged.
Harry, because of his knowledge of transfiguration because of his arm managed a full transfiguration.
"well I'll be, we are tied, miss D'Larc and Mr Potter have both managed a perfect transfiguration" Barton announced and Harry and Joanne looked at each other.
"I will take one mark professor, and Joanne can have the two merits," Harry said with a smile.
"how noble of you Mr Potter, two merits to miss D'Larc and 1 to Mr Potter" Professor Barton announced, this caused others to whisper and grumble between them.
"Now to revert the transfigurations we will use reparifarge" giving a demonstration on the goblet turning it back into a pidgin.
Each person was able to return the animals to normal.
"Ok, that is all for today well done to everyone" Barton said as black slithered to Gabby and nudged her hand.
Gabby looked down at black who slithered to Harry's left hand to reveal the spell also reverted his hand and it showed it was bruised and bloody as well as burnt.
"Harry, we need to talk, your hand is revealed for one and two you lied to me" she whispered at him annoyed.
After the lesson, Gabby grabbed Harry's and Hermione's hands and took them to the astronomy tower.
"reparifarge" Gabby cast on Harry's hand showing dried blood and bruising on his hand.
"NOW! Tell me why your hand is covered in blood again and why the wall has blood on it, I already know why but I want you to tell me" Gabby stated and Hermione stared in shock.
"H-H-Harry, what did you do?" Hermione asked.
"I was annoyed ok, annoyed at myself, annoyed at my hand, annoyed it can't feel," Harry said and broke down to tears and slumped against the wall.
"I'm sorry I lied to you, I didn't want you worrying about me, I guess I failed that," Harry said looking at his hand.
"Harry, I understand your annoyance, but where did it get you in all this?" Gabby said standing in front of Harry.
"and what did you do to make it like this?" Hermione asked him.
"I punched the wall over and over hoping to feel something, but nothing" Harry said and tried to move his hand but nothing happened.
"I'm trying to move it but nothing, I think it's broken, not that it matters anyway," Harry said and Gabby held it.
"It matters to me, believe it or not even if you can't feel it, it matters to me" Gabby said and Hermione placed a hand on his shoulder.
"You are my friend, I don't want to see you hurt," Hermione said to him.
After Harry calmed down, he stood and hugged them both.
"I'm sorry I didn't think, I was stuck in my own head, shall we get some food?" Harry said to them both and stepped back.
"don't tell Fleur about this, she will tell maman and then maman will worry, she thinks of you like a son after all" Gabby stated as they walked to the dining chamber.
"I will see if we can get you some Skele-gro or a Wiggenweld potion to sort you hand Harry, but please talk to us next time" Hermione stated as they walked in and sat down to eat.
