A/N: Guess who watched GvK today? Holy heck, the movie was amazing- then again, who doesn't love a monkey fighting lizard? Anyways, I've come out of hiding with a few more GvK fueled chapters- and a little idea that I'm tinkering with right now. What idea? Well, you'll just have to wait and see dear reader. It's a bit of a MystEry. anyways, Comments and all tHat will be Accepted- so please leave your thoughts down below.

Chapter Six: Writing on the Walls.

"There's another one over there-"

"Where?"

"There!"

Kong moved to and fro in the ravine, with Rodan calling out seemingly random directions from above. He could hear something moving in the walls, skittering from tunnel to tunnel like a rodent. His grip on Skullcrusher grew tense, and Kong was ready to slam the axe into whatever came anywhere near him.

It's going to be behind me isn't it?

As if on cue, a loud hiss from one corner of the caverns, and Kong was blindsided by a juvenile Skull Crawler; jaws dripping with spit and drool as it landed on his back. The impact wasn't enough to knock Kong down, but his arms were unable to grab the predator as it bit down into his fur. His axe fell to the ground as Kong edged his way towards a wall- intending to crush the beast against the stone.

Until Rodan intervened- talons digging into the Skullcrawler and ripping it from Kong's back. The Firebird then swooped back out of the ravine- his wingtips not touching either wall in a show of grace and skill. The Skullcrawler in his claws hissed and smoked from his touch, but that didn't stop the Firebird from carrying it above the clouds. Rodan let the creature drop back down - landing on the cold hard stone as a crushed heap of flesh and bone. The ape felt no sympathy for it's kind, but the sight of his worst enemies dying in such a gruesome manner sent a spine down his shiver.

The Firebird let out his signature cackle, a casual gesture that completely contradicted his ruthless efficiency.

The Mire Squid was old, living in a lake with little to no food left, and had begun to menace the Iwi who dared stray near its home. It had grown large over the years, becoming an imbalance in the ecosystem and a danger to all the smaller animals living nearby.

So Kong dealt with it.

It struggled beneath the water's surface, tentacles wrapped around Kong trying to crush him to death. But the limbs were weak, and Kong rather strong for his size. One arm pinned down the Mire Squid, while another reached for his axe. Skullcrusher easily won over the cephalopod's soft skin, allowing Kong to drag its body to the lakeside.

"Nice calamari!"

Up in the skies, the ape could see Rodan circling the perimeter- looking for something to do. His wings trailed little embers, a rain of sparks that spread across the trees like rain, and Kong was thankful that the swamp was humid enough to not cause a repeat of the forest fire Rodan made a few days ago. If that had happened, Kong was sure that Rodan would not survive the next hour.

"Are we done yet?"

Kong let out a grunt in reply, shouldering his lunch.

"If you're bored," he offered, "You can wait at the cave for me to be done."

Rodan scoffed, watching from his perch atop a small hill as Kong gathered leaves for his bed, replacing the ones that he had burnt the other day with his embers.

"And miss out on this riveting action?"

"Hell no."

The ape let out a short chuckle, a gesture that shocked Rodan and himself.

"Wait? You can laugh?"

The Firebird said with a grin wider than the full moon, but Kong elected to not reply as he continued foraging for more leaves.

"So, Monkey, what do you think of the humans?"

Rodan threw another handful of Soma berries, one of the few kaiju sized fruits on the island, into his waiting beak. The dozen empty bowls at his talons, clearly the Firebird was more than happy with the delicacy.

"Small. Weak." Kong leaned back, relaxed, one of his hands supporting him as the other went to scratch an itch on his chest. The cave didn't feel as cold anymore with Rodan in here, and Kong found that rather pleasing.

"Skull Island is no place for them, and yet they refuse to leave."

"What? So you don't want to get rid of them?"

The Firebird grinned a little too wide, flames trickling from the edges of his beak.

"Not particularly."

Dull waves of gray clouds had begun to roll in, and the sunlight was much less oppressive than before. The beginnings of a storm. Kong noted that Rodan was suddenly avoiding his gaze, not that the ape cared or anything.

"Anyway," The Firebird asked after a brief pause, "Is it true?"

"What?"

"They say Skull Island was created as a prison, for those who dared defy the will of Mother Earth."

"Well, I say Mother- but she's more of a tyrannical ruler in that sense."

"Kinda like our King."

"Our King?" Kong had never known how kaiju society worked, for his parents had always told him to pay no heed to the outsiders. The Island always came first.

"Yeah, Godzilla."

Kong scratched his chin, and stared at Rodan- prompting him to divulge a little more information on this mysterious kaiju. Despite having blabbered non-stop for the whole day, the Firebird had not spoken once about this 'Godzilla'.

He stayed silent, uncharacteristically so.

"Rodan?"

"Alright alright, I'll tell you about our good old Godzilla-"

With a surprising amount of spite in his words, Rodan told his story.

Odo Island

The Firebird landed gently on the sandy shore- and the small hill that was Godzilla shifted as he floated languidly in the stagnant lake. His row of jagged spikes, vaguely shaped like leaves, had attracted a mix of seagulls and tropical birds from a land before time.

"My King," Rodan knelt the best he could, the young titan dimming his embers as a show of respect to his elder. Godzilla opened one eye, the amber glow brimming with annoyance.

"I would like to speak with you."

Godzilla grumbled as he turned to the Firebird, who was still kneeling. The saurian let out a deep exhale as he made landfall- the entire coastline shaking with his heavy footfalls.

"My King?"

His spines caused the water to smoke and steam as the daikaiju king rose to his full height, his claws extended and ready to stab into his chest.

"For the last time Rodan, they are NOT a problem."

"Now leave, and let me sleep in peace."

"You still listening?"

Kong grunted, before he took a sip from a stone cup.

"How conversational of you."

"Anyways, as I was saying-"

"My King, you are truly willing to let these these parasites continue to rule our planet?"

"Listen Rodan, I have my own reasons for-"

"They don't deserve your mercy!"

The Firebird interrupted, taking Godzilla by surprise.

"You were our king, our leader-"

"Watch. Your. Tone." The King spines crackled, and the saurian would have bitten Rodan's beak right off had the Firebird not backed away. They were so close, Rodan felt the heat building in Godzilla's throat- as hot as the volcanoes he had once bathed in.

"I am King."

Godzilla shoved Rodan in the chest with his hand, nearly pushing the flier over. The Firebird retracted his wings, hoping to use them as shields if the worse came to bear.

"Leave them alone, or there will be consequences."

"Are we clear?"

Rodan gulped, his bravery evaporating at his peer's pressure.

"Y-Yes."

"So, you can kind of see why I don't stay in my home anymore."

"..."

"This 'parasite' species you refer to," he asked Rodan as he paced around the cave, "What have they done to the planet to make you so-"

"They took something from me."

"Someone."

Kong rose up to his feet, contemplating his choices. His eyes were drawn to Skullcrusher, and from the way Rodan was staring it looked like he had come to the same conclusion.

Better not regret this.

"Tell Godzilla that I, King Kong of Skull Island-"

"Challenge him for the right to rule!"
