ONE MINUTE
CHAPTER 7: CHOICES
Esme had been pensive since their cousins left. Eleazar had the ability to read into vampires and discover their gifts. If Bella had one, he would know. They had been focused on helping her adjust to being a vampire, helping her try to remember who she was. Helping her mourn her lost life.
When they came, Eleazar didn't volunteer any information and they didn't ask either.
They had all been busy with packing everything for the move. The topic that was most discussed in the house was the new things that they would be able to do once they arrived at their new home in England. Well, new for Bella. Old for the rest of them.
Alice had been busy buying things on the internet and taking Esme everywhere. A few times she enlisted Bella, actively making her choose, but she was driving her insane. She hated shopping, whatever she was shopping for. Alice was too much at times, and Bella was still nervous. Added to the fact that Bella's only escape was the woods, and that she didn't have the luxury of going into town
The guys were in charge of taking the boxes to the corresponding agency for international moving. Obviously, everyone but Edward, who was dead, for all intents and purposes for the humans.
One day, Esme decided to talk to Bella, to see if she was interested in knowing. It was a welcome distraction from everything that was going on. It was nothing serious, merely a curiosity. And it could help Bella put her mind elsewhere. Otherwise, she would end up choking Alice.
Bella agreed, curious herself. Edward volunteered to go with her, but she refused. She was no longer insecure about his feelings. He had made peace with the fact that she might not get his memories back. But she was not comfortable with him being close to Tanya, or well, the other way around.
He had to hide his smile. She was still his insecure Bella. Although he no longer considered it endearing, it was upsetting seeing her doubt her worth. He was going to have a talk with her once they returned.
On their visit, the three daughters were out, much to Bella's relief. However, they had a peculiar visitor. A red-eyed vampire. Esme didn't know him. Neither did Carmen nor Eleazar. He had stumbled upon them by accident, and had been invited in for a shower, an a few days of settling.
Even though vampires never got physically tired, and therefore he didn't need to rest; they still enjoyed downtime and Carmen and Eleazar had thought it was polite to offer him a place to 'rest', for lack of a better word.
"My name is Kieran." He introduced himself to Bella and Esme.
"I'm Bella, this is Esme."
"You have blocked memories." Kieran assessed immediately.
It took everyone by surprise, especially, Carmen and Eleazar. "How do you know that?" Bella demanded.
"I don't know, actually. I have been a vampire for over three years, but I don't know how this power of mine works. I just receive information. I know things." He shrugged. "I also know how to unblock them." He answered. Eleazar had noticed something in him but was still assessing his gift. It was one he had never seen before, not even anything remotely similar.
Unlike Bella, who was a shield, like Renata, Aro's 'bodyguard'. However, since he saw Bella, and heard from Edward that he had never been able to read her, he knew she was more powerful, or at least, her shield was stronger. But perhaps, this piece of information could wait. Seeing as her blocked memories were higher on her list of priorities.
Bella exchanged a look with Esme. Those were wonderful news. But did she want them back? All the trauma? She massaged her temples. "Are you staying here long?" She needed to talk to Edward.
"As long as my hosts allow me to stay." He winked towards Carmen. She laughed.
He was charming, handsome, and young. But Carmen was deeply in love with Eleazar.
"We are not going anywhere, dear Bella. You can take your time." Eleazar comforted her.
Bella stood up and ran far enough to be out of earshot from the vampires in the house.
"Hello, love." She smiled. "How's the visit going?"
"Well…They have a vampire visiting them, who claims to have the ability to unblock my memories."
Edward stayed silent. It was good news. If she wanted, she could have her memories back. But at what cost? She was happy now, without the trauma of the attack. It was a tough decision to make.
"What do you want to do?" He asked.
"That's the thing." She sighed. "I don't know. On one hand, I really want to remember. Not only you of course, but my parents particularly. I miss them, even though I don't know them. On the other, I'm afraid of what I would find if I opened the pandora box."
"I understand, love. But it is your decision. As much as we could tell you about your life, there are stuff that even we don't know. Stuff that you might want to remember, about your parents, about your friends, about yourself. I understand how scary it can be the prospect of relieving a traumatic experience." He paused, she heard some noise in the background and judging by the change in acoustics she guessed he had gone out of the house. They hadn't told her about the recording, and how they knew what James had done to her. Tortured her, taunted her about killing her and showing Edward how he did it. How she screamed for him to not do anything. That had broken his heart. And it had perturbed Alice, since he knew her.
"You got too quiet over there."
"Bella, there is something we didn't tell you about James. Could you switch to video?" She did as he requested and changed from phone call to video call. He looked worried. "He recorded the attack."
She gasped in horror. "What?"
"He wanted me to see how he had killed you because of how I reacted at the baseball field. We all saw it. I know what he did to you, and I hated it. I don't want you remembering that, because it was horrible enough to watch it. I don't know how you could withstand relieving it."
She processed it. She thought about everything he said. She could remember all the bad, but also all the good. And judging by how everyone reacted, and how much they have helped her, she could bet that there were more good things than bad. She could do it, as long as he was with her. Right?
"Would you be there with me, if I decide to remember?" She asked timidly.
Edward frowned hurt. "Bella. What part of I love you, and I'm here for you, do you not get?" She smiled at his intonation. "Of course I will be there by your side. I will always be. Until you tell me not to anymore."
"That'll never happen." She assured him.
"Then, we're on the same page. I love you, whatever you decide, I'll support you."
"I love you too." With that she hung up the video call and ran back to the house.

Carmen, Eleazar and Esme back at the house were getting acquainted with Kieran. Esme had asked him if he was willing to go to Forks and speak with her other two daughters, who had had experienced different traumatic events. She didn't divulge the specifics, respecting their privacy. Kieran agreed immediately.
When they relayed the message to Bella, she also thought it was a good idea. If she had the choice, she thought Rosalie and Alice could have one as well.
"But I don't know how your gift will help Rose. She remembers her accident. She's not like Alice or me."
Kieran looked at Eleazar who nodded. "Kieran can also erase memories." Bella opened her eyes widely in surprise. That was some gift. Like, total mind control. Scary in the wrong hands.
A phrase that she had heard Emmett say a lot of times came to mind. 'With great powers come great responsibilities.' He had gotten that from a comic book, but it still was pretty solid advice.
"Oh, wow" It was all she could say.
Kieran smiled amusedly.

…
Two days later, they arrived back at Forks. Alice had updated everyone on Esme's decision to offer her and Rose the choice to either remember or forget.
It was a tough choice for both of them. One that they needed to carefully think about. And they did. Thoroughly. Even Bella thought about it in depth. What it would mean for her to have her memories back.
