Hank finally emerged from his room half an hour later to find Connor perched on one side of the couch his attention fixed on the television set in front of him. As Hank looked on I shifted the blanket around my shoulders, my gaze moving to Connor before I quickly looked back at the tv my cheeks a brilliant red.
"Okay what did you kids break?" Hank called out, getting two equally blank stares for his trouble though as soon as we locked eyes with each other Connor and I quickly looked away and Hank stared as Connor's cheeks turned a faint blue. "I was just joking." He muttered as he walked over waiting until I finally lifted my head to aknogledge the detective.
"We didn't break anything. Besides I can barely move from the couch." I answered, chewing my lower lip in an effort to distract myself from looking at an equally embarrassed android sitting on the other end of the couch.
"Seriously what happened between you two?" Hank asked and Connor sighed, raising his head to look at Hank who fixed him with a raised eyebrow. "Connor, you didn't say anything to embarrass Lola did you?" He teased and Connor shifted his gaze to me as I fiddled with the hem of the blanket, unable to face either Connor or Hank right at that moment.
"I did nothing like that, Hank. We were playing a game and I may have asked a personal question." Connor explained, causing both of Hank's eyebrows to shoot towards his forehead.
"We were playing a game that involves asking questions about one another. I said something out aloud by accident and now Connor can't let me forget it." I told the older detective who bit back a laugh as Connor raised his head to look directly at me instead of his adoptive father who started to chuckle. "It's not that funny." I grumbled, lowering my face when Connor cleared his throat.
"What exactly did you say to Connor?" Hank asked me but when I didn't respond, too busy hiding my face behind one hand, he turned his attention to Connor as the android tried to climb from his spot on the edge of the couch. "Oh no. You can't just say something like that and not except me to want to know. Now spill."
"For the love of...alright already!" I snapped, suddenly finding the whole thing far less amusing and as both men stared at me I narrowed my eyes. "I told Connor that I found him attractive alright? Now if you're both finished making fun of me I'm going to lock myself in the bathroom until my stupid ankle decides to work for a change." I grumbled, pushing my way up from the couch though I barely managed to plant both feet on the decidedly cold floor before I stumbled, Connor catching me in his arms before I could react.
"Careful, Lola or you could injury yourself further." Connor told me, all trace of humor or embarrassment gone as he entered what I started to call 'serious mode. As he helped me stand and I found myself leaning on his shoulder for support I sighed, closing my eyes for long enough to feel several fingers touching my forehead and I opened my eyes to find Connor staring directly at my face. "You don't seem to have a fever." He pointed out and I just groaned, rubbing at my eyes with the fingers of my right hand as the android helped me stumble to the hallway.
"I appreciate the help, Connor but I draw the line at having someone following me into the bathroom. Besides I need to use the toilet and I really don't need an audience." I told Connor as he helped me through the open door but he didn't appear to be listening so after some careful thought, and a whole lot of patience, I let him set me down on the bathtub.
"Lola, if I have offended you in someway I am very sorry." Connor began and I just shrugged, concentrating more on keeping my balance on the edge of the tub than his apology.
"Don't worry about it, Connor. I'm just angry at myself that I didn't watch the road when I was crossing it. I know it's been pretty quiet lately but that doesn't excuse me forgetting everything my parents taught me about safely crossing the road." I told him and Connor gave me a brief nod though I could see his eyes searching my face until I waved a hand. "Not mad at you, Connor just feeling stupid that I said something so personal to you."
"You don't need to apologize, Lola. I have said a few things too out aloud when I didn't realize someone was listening." Connor admitted and that brought a tiny smile to my lips. "I will wait outside but please call me if you need any assistance." He added, stepping away from the bathtub though once he crossed the room he looked back to find me standing one hand clutching the bathtub's rim as I forced my aching legs to stay under me.
"At least for a few minutes I'll be fine, Connor but...thanks." I called out before he had time to close the door behind him and Connor nodded, feeling a little better as he gently closed the door.
A few minutes passed and as I leaned on the wall I let out a breath. "That's much better." I muttered, keeping my voice low in case a certain android overheard me. "It was nice of Connor to help me in here but I really don't need help using the toilet. I could use a bath but how am I going to run one if I can barely stay upright?"
What I didn't know was that a certain android heard every word and as I pushed myself to my feet I heard a knock at the door, alerting me that Connor was still outside. "You can come in, Connor." I called out though when I received no answer I rolled my eyes at the door. "Just come inside the bathroom. I don't want to yell through the door." I added though as soon as the door clicked open and he poked his head into the room I frowned at him.
"I'm not angry at you for listening in just...disappointed." I told him the moment he finally poked his head through the doorway, trying for humor though when his eyes shifted from my face to the floor I groaned. "Connor, I'm kidding. See this is what I meant when I told you you were attractive. I mean those puppy dog eyes..." I trailed off with a sigh and a hand over my eyes as he lifted his head his eyes on my face. After he tilted his head to one side not understanding what I meant I uncovered my eyes to find him looking directly at me and I bit back a grin, enjoying how confused he looked.
"Puppy-dog eyes?" Connor repeated and I shrugged, beckoning towards me. His LED flashed yellow as he crossed the small bathroom though as soon as he reached me I stepped forward, giving the android a faint smile as I draped my arms around his neck. "Lola, what are you doing?" He whispered, unable to look away and to my added amusement his cheeks were now tinged blue.
"I'm just using you to keep myself from falling onto the bathroom floor, Connor. Why? Did you think I had some other motive for calling you into this room?" I whispered, trying very hard not to laugh as he continued to stare at me.
"Yet you keep commenting on how attractive I am in your eyes, Lola." Connor pointed out, giving me a tiny smile that matched my own when I froze. "Yes I could hear you very well through the door. I am equipped with remarkable hearing." He added with a smirk on his lips and as my cheeks burned and I turned my head away he chuckled. "I believe I have caught you in a lie, Lola."
"I guess so, Connor. What are you going to do with me now that you know I'm lying?" I questioned, liking the smile he gave me in return as I shifted close enough to find myself nose to nose with him.
