I'd like to start this chapter by warning everyone that the "second to last scene" of this chapter does imply some dark and potentially uncomfortable things in regards to Kamoshida's implied actions in canon. I say implied because I will not ever glorify or write such scenes in detail, but I also believe that it's important to acknowledge the darker themes and mature subject matter Persona touches on from time to time. As unsavory as it is, I tried to get the point across without lingering on it. I just thought it was important to convey that there will be some troubling and dark subjects covered throughout this story. It's rated as mature for a reason. Still I wanted to approach everything tactfully and give my readers a warning beforehand.
Chapter 6: Castle of Lust: Act Three
(Early Morning) [Tuesday] April 12th 20XX
Aoyama-Itchome
Outside Shujin Academy
Ren found himself staring at the looming Shujin Academy that stood in the distance. 'There it is. Ann, I hope you're alright. Please stay strong. I swear we're going to get you out of that damn castle.'
The boy's thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice calling out to him.
"Senpai!" Kasumi exclaimed as she jogged up to him before bowing her head. "Good Morning Senpai. I hope you slept well last night, you know, considering everything that happened."
A faint smile creased the boy's features. "Even though I had a thousand different things on my mind, I was so exhausted I didn't have much trouble sleeping. How bout you, Kasumi? You don't seem to be lacking energy."
The redhead shifted her weight as she returned his smile. "Of course, my mind was in overdrive, but like you using that power sapped my strength. Though from what Morgana Sensei said, it should be much easier in the future. I have no doubt we can save Takamaki."
"I just feel guilty that we have to put this off. However, I can see Sensei's point. We've already drawn enough attention, and there's no telling how long this might take us," Ren said as his brow furrowed slightly.
"Oh, it just occurred to me, but how are we supposed even to get back to that place? Morgana Sensei mentioned he tried to get in touch with us, but what if he ended up getting caught?" Kasumi asked as a look of uncertainty cleared her usually upbeat expression.
The dark-haired boy reached out before tentatively resting a hand atop her head. "Just leave that to me, alright? I figured that out last night."
Kasumi felt her cheeks burning a bit as she stared up at the taller boy. "S-Senpai, you're so cool."
It was the boy's turn to look slightly embarrassed as he let out a brief laugh. "That's definitely the first time I've ever heard that, but I'm not complaining."
"You just seem to adjust to things so quickly. It's like this comes so naturally for you," the girl said with a tiny smile.
"I wouldn't go that far. I've just got a good poker face. But yeah, getting back to the castle is fairly simple."
"Yo Ren! Kasumi!" Ryuji called out as he suddenly jogged up to the pair before hunching over to catch his breath.
The girl offered the boy a worried expression. "Ryuji Senpai are you okay? You look exhausted."
The boy grinned as he straightened his posture. "Nah, I'm fine. I just woke up a little late and had to run all the way here. My leg ain't happy about it, but I made it. So what's up? We ready to do this shit and stick it to fucking Kamoshida?!"
Ren's eye visibly twitched as he grabbed the other boy's arm before nodding at Kasumi as he dragged the boy away from the main path leading to the school and over to a small table and pair of vending machines outside the campus. "Have you never heard of volume control or discretion? We're supposed to be keeping a low profile."
"Shit, my bad dude, I just kept thinking about how we were gonna kick that asshole's teeth in and save Takamaki. I guess I got a little carried away."
The gymnast giggled. "Go easy on him, Senpai. I think his heart was in the right place."
"I know, but seriously trying to be subtle with Ryuji is like leading a bull through a china shop and expecting nothing to get broken," the transfer student pointed out.
Ryuji offered a sheepish expression. "Hey, cut me some slack. I think we're still in the clear. Not like anyone pays me any attention anyway. So what's the plan? I realized on my way here that we don't know how to get back to that place, do we? So what's our play?"
"Funny you mention it, Senpai seems to have figured that out," Kasumi said as she nodded at the dark-haired boy.
"Right. I have what's called a metaverse navigator. It shows up as an app on my phone. It showed up a few days ago, and I had no idea why. It turns out with the right keywords. You can enter places like that castle. It even shows what keywords gives access to that particular place," Ren explained as he held out his phone and showed the glowing red and black app with a series of words on it. "In this case, the keywords were: Castle, Shujin Academy, Pervert, and Kamoshida. I guess that when these are first submitted, it transports us to that place. I'm assuming we did this unintentionally yesterday."
The former track star's eyes widened. "Dude, that's nuts. An app did all that? Yo, wait, I had this weird app show up on my phone yesterday too. I thought it was spam or some junk."
"I-I have it too. Though in my case, I noticed a couple of days ago. Any idea how it got there in the first place, Senpai?"
Ren was quiet for a moment as he contemplated something. 'Something tells me that talking about the Velvet Room probably is a bit much. It's not like I even understand who or what Igor is...' "I'm not sure of what it really is, but I think it's safe to assume that either having contact with someone with the app or going to that place causes it to appear on your phone. It does explain how you and Sensei ended up there. You both must have triggered it as well."
Kasumi nodded her head thoughtfully. "That actually makes a lot of sense. I remember now. You dropped your phone when we first met. Then I picked it up and handed it to you. It wasn't long after that when I noticed the app show up on my phone."
"...If it's that simple for someone to access the app, we should make sure our phones don't get confiscated. That could lead to some terrible outcomes. Just imagine if someone else stumbled into that place on their own without help."
Ryuji rubbed the back of his neck. "Can't say that sounds good, but shit, this is hurting my head. I guess it doesn't matter how it works, so long as it does."
"That's true. Right now, the how isn't important. We have the means of getting back to that place and saving Takamaki. We really should get going, though. The last thing we need is to be tardy again," the Gymnast pointed out.
"Agreed, let's convene in Kawakami's classroom after school. We'll launch our operation from there," Ren said with a steely gaze.
As the trio started back towards the main entrance, they'd fail to notice a nearby figure that had overhead everything.

"Y-You wanted to see me, sir?" Shiho grounded out the question in a shaky voice as her vacant expression seemed laser-focused on the tiled floor.
The Coach visibly frowned as he swiveled around in his desk chair. "Suzui, I've come to expect better from you. You told me you wanted to be a starter, right? Ditching practice isn't how you achieve that."
A look of trepidation filled the girl's face as she fidgeted with her hands. "I know, and I'm sorry, but I was just worried about Ann. I wanted to know that she was alright."
"Oh, is that right? How is she doing, by the way? I hear that no one from school has been able to reach her and her parents are abroad," Kamoshida said as he rubbed at his chin with a thoughtful expression.
Shiho's squeezed her eyes shut a moment before shaking her head. "I-I don't know what's going on with her. She's not answering phone calls, and when I went to her house, no one answered. It's not like her just to vanish."
The man rose from his chair before walking forward and resting a hand on her shoulder. "Tell me something, Shiho. What do you know about Sakamoto and that Amamiya boy? They seem to be the last ones to have seen her. Do you think they could have something to do with her disappearance? Maybe I should phone the police and ask them to look into those boys."
The girl's eyes flew open the moment he'd laid his hand on her, and she visibly flinched from his question. "I-I'm not sure. That is to say. I don't think they did anything wrong."
"Are you sure about that? You said you don't think they did anything wrong, but not that you believe they're not involved. Maybe you're lying too? You're not going to be a bad girl now, are you Shiho?" the man asked as he raised his hand to cup her cheek. A smile remained on his face, but the look in his eyes betrayed any kind of tenderness.
"I-I'm not lying, I-I promise I don't know anything about them or where Ann is," the girl stammered out with a fearful expression.
Kamoshida eyed her intently as he caressed her cheek. "You'd better not be lying, or there will be consequences. You're going to need to prove to me why I shouldn't bench you."
The volleyball player bit the inside of her cheek as she struggled to meet his gaze. "Prove to you? What do you mean?"
Before he could respond, there was a knock against the door.
The man let his arm drop to his side as he offered her one of his practiced smiles. "Why by putting in nothing less than a hundred and ten percent in practice, of course. However, I'd advise you not to miss practice again. You wouldn't want the whole team to suffer, right?" he asked in a seemingly innocent manner as he strode past her before opening his door.
Shiho sucked in a sharp breath as she did her best to compose herself, internally grateful for the sudden interruption. She glanced over her shoulder to see a familiar third-year student.
"Ah, Miss Niijima! What brings you here so early in the morning?" Kamoshida asked as he gave her a warm smile.
The student council president offered a curt nod. "I apologize if I interrupted you, sir. Principal Kobayakawa wanted to ask that you meet him in his office during lunch. I'm afraid I'm just a messenger, and he didn't say anything further."
"Oh, that's quite alright. Consider the message received, and don't be so hard on yourself. We all serve Shujin in our own way," the man said with a practiced smile.

Shujin Academy
Classroom
The morning thus far had passed by rather swiftly, though it had been less exciting or dangerous than the previous day. He couldn't help but stare at the vacant seat in front of him that he'd learned Takamaki's chair. Since his late arrival the previous day, it had served as a constant reminder that she was still trapped and very much in danger. It made focusing on anything else complicated. He just kept running through various scenarios in his head, wondering if there had been a solution to saving her the previous day that had eluded them. All of this inner turmoil ceased as he heard a very unpleasant older man's voice.
"Amamiya, you look like you're on the verge of nodding off back there. Since you don't seem interested in my lesson, it means one of two things. Either you don't take your studies seriously or that you think you already know the material. Why don't we see which it is?"
The comment stirred a series of chuckles and whispers from the classmates around the room.
Ren ignored the commentary as he instead regarded the man at the front of the room. He was a middle-aged man, with the last name Ushimaru if he wasn't mistaken. He'd done little to hide his visible disdain of who he perceived as a troublemaker. Something told the boy that he was less than excited that Shujin had accepted someone like him.
"Fire away with your question, sir," the boy said as he pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
A look of slight annoyance showed on the man's face before he cleared his throat. "Very well. According to the Devil's Dictionary, What is the chief factor in the progress of the human race?", Ushimaru asked, clearly expecting to stump the kid.
Ren offered a bemused chuckle. "Most would use the word villain, but I believe the appropriate term is Malefactor, as in someone who commits a crime or some other wrong. Though the Devil's Dictionary is a satirical piece and the use of Malefactors is meant to be used sardonically."
An audible silence followed for a moment before the teacher raised an eyebrow. "I couldn't have said it better myself, actually. In reality, villains or malefactors don't actually cause progress but rather strife and chaos."
A series of more whispers began in earnest around the class, most seemingly surprised by the boy's sharp mind.
"I must admit you surprised me, Amamiya, and here I just thought you were some punk," the Teacher admitted with a complex expression but with the slightest bit of amusement in his eyes.
Ren merely shrugged his shoulders. "I may be considered a delinquent, sir, but I'm not an idiot."
The older man paid the comment no mind as he continued his lesson without further interruption. Meanwhile, the boy continued to let his thoughts drift again.
'While it's true villains in most forms are depicted in a particular way, isn't it also possible that those who are truly evil don't always announce their intentions publicly? Kamoshida doesn't exactly scream evil, abusive bastard. If anything, he relies on his image as a former Olympian and star of this school. I guess, in a way, that's his persona. His own mask that he hides behind. If only we could expose it..'

Principal's Office
"You wanted to see me, sir?" Kamoshida asked as he offered a pleasant smile before shutting the door behind him.
The portly principal nodded his head as he smiled widely. "Ah yes, thank you for making time, Mr. Kamoshida. I know you've had your hands full getting our students ready for the upcoming tournament."
A chuckle escaped the former Olympian. "Oh, it's really no trouble. I just want Shujin to shine above all others and expect nothing but the best from my players."
"That's what I appreciate so much about you, Suguru. There are too many of the other teachers that don't understand how important it is that Shujin outperforms our peers. There can be time for leisure in the future, but the only two focuses should be academics and sports while they're here. Were it up to me entirely, I would insist on even more strict penalties for failing students and making admissions even more challenging."
The Coach nodded. "I couldn't agree more, sir. The best should rise to the top, and the rest deserve wherever they end up. The world after high school won't be handed to them. So if they can't hack this, then they're not cut out for the real world either."
Kobayakawa hummed in approval as he laced his hands. "My thoughts exactly. However, I am limited by what the board decides. In any case, that's not why I asked you here."
"Right, what's on your mind?" Kamoshida asked as he folded his arms.
The Principal frowned. "There have been some disturbing rumors that have reached my ears. Rumors that unfortunately involve you."
"And you take these rumors at face value?" Kamoshida asked with a hint of steel in his voice. "You know better than anyone that it's talentless trash that likes to find ways to destroy those with promise with crap like this."
"Suguru, please," the large man said as he held out a meaty hand in the air. "You know that you have my complete trust and faith. You are, without a doubt, Shujin Academy's greatest asset. I just wanted you to be aware of such horrid gossip."
The athlete seemed to relax slightly. "Sounds like the sort of drivel that would come from someone who couldn't cut it into sports and would rather resort to slander."
"Regardless, you do not need to worry. Rest assured that if I find a direct source of these allegations, we can use litigation if need be. Shujin Academy has an excellent Lawyer on retainer. I won't let anyone tarnish our star after all."
Kamoshida seemed to hesitate a moment. "That seems quite involved. I'm sure that won't be necessary."
A knowing smile played on the portly man's face. "Suguru, you need not worry so much. I'm well aware of the previous allegations you faced in the past. Whether there is truth or not to these current rumors matters little to me. What's important is keeping a certain image you see. If I need to involve our defense attorney, rest assured that you have nothing to fear. She only cares about defending her clients at all costs. If it ever comes to that, we can bury anyone foolish enough to speak out and in return discourage anyone else from attempting to do so in the future."
A wry grin crossed the younger man's face. "I suppose I should apologize since it seems I may have underestimated you, sir. You have my thanks."
"Oh, there's no need to thank me. Just continue doing what you do best and leave everything else to me. In the long run, it will be what benefits this school," Kobayakawa said with a wide smile.

Shujin Academy
Classroom
"Are you all sure about this?" Kawakami asked as she rubbed at the bags under her eyes.
Ryuji scoffed. "Come on, Teach! You think we're gonna just effing sit on our hands when Takamaki needs help?!"
The woman gave the boy an irritable look before pressing an index finger to her lips. "Sakamoto, stop yelling. The point of using my classroom is to avoid prying eyes. If you all keep vanishing in alleyways or the open streets, someone will notice eventually. I'm only asking if you're all ready because we all barely escaped last time."
"That might be true, Sensei, but the difference is we've already awakened our powers. It shouldn't be as taxing this time. Besides, we're not quite as clueless as we were yesterday," Ren pointed out.
Kasumi nodded in agreement. "We also have a set goal in mind, which helps. We just have to reach Takamaki, and then we can fall back."
"Heh, and we'll just knock the crap outta anyone that gets in our way," Ryuji said as he cracked his knuckles.
"Jeez, I forgot what it means to be young and reckless," Kawakami sighed as she rubbed at her forehead. "So what's your plan to get back anyways, Amamiya?"
Ren smiled confidently as he held out his phone. "This strange app? It turns out once you have the right keywords, you can use them to enter places like Kamoshida's Castle. One press, and we're in."
Sadayo's eyes widened as she shot a glance at her desk where her purse rested.
"You have it too, don't you, Sensei?" Kasumi asked as she noticed the women's shift in attention.
"...Yeah, I noticed it after we returned yesterday. I have at least a thousand questions, but I guess it can wait for now. I have a meeting in a few minutes, so I need to get going."
"Whoa, so you really meant what you said last night? I thought for sure you'd change your mind!" Ryuji exclaimed with a slack-jawed expression.
The older woman sighed. "Volume Sakamoto," she murmured before shaking her head. "Look, I don't have the powers the rest of you have. Someone like me, I don't even think that's possible. If you're going to do this, then don't half-ass it, okay? Save Takamaki and get out of there as quickly as you can."
Ren smiled as he gave the woman a thumbs up. "Just leave it to us. You're the best, Sensei."
Sadayo felt a hint of embarrassment at the praise and promptly turned away. "Just listen to Morgana if you run into him. He seems to know what he's doing. Oh my god, I'm encouraging teenagers to trust a talking cat. I must be out of my mind," she murmured to herself as she continued out the door before pulling it shut.
As soon as the woman had stepped out of the classroom, she almost walked directly into another student. She visibly tensed as she eyed the other girl a moment. "Uh, sorry about that. I didn't know anyone was still in the hallway. Wait, you're Takamaki's friend, right?"
"Y-Yes, Ma'am. My name is Suzui Shiho," the girl offered with a timid nod of her head.
Kawakami bit her bottom lip. 'Jeez, I hope she didn't overhear Sakamoto's big mouth.' "Oh, that's right. You're on the volleyball team, aren't you? Shouldn't you be at practice by now?"
Shiho's discomfort was almost palpable at the question, but the girl still managed to find her voice. "Y-Yes, I'm running a little late, though. I realized I left a book in my classroom. I should probably get going. I don't want to upset the Coach."
"Of course, that's a wise thought. I have to hurry," Sadayo said, offering a thin-lipped smile as she nodded at the girl before starting down the hallway towards the faculty office.
Shiho released a pent-up breath before her gaze zeroed in on the classroom door next to her. Her look of uncertainty began to give way as she mentally decided on her next course.
Kamoshida's Palace
Chapel
Altar
"My liege, everything is as you requested!" Cognitive Kobayakawa declared with a beaming smile that creased his chubby face.
The King grinned darkly at the man garbed in ceremonial robes. "Now it's just time to draw in those annoying little bees, and we have our honey right here. Is that right, my beloved?"
Ann scowled visibly as she found herself wearing what appeared to be a white wedding dress that was less than modest in its design, as it exposed most of her chest and thighs. The blonde shifted uncomfortably at the way his eyes leered at her. "W-What makes you think anyone's coming anyway?"
Shadow Kamoshida reached out before grabbing the girl by the chin. "You better hope they do, otherwise your use to me is far less substantial. No one makes a mockery of me and gets away with it."
"I-I hope they do if nothing else but to make you look like the washed-up asshole you are," Ann said before attempting to slap the man, only to have her wrist caught.
"Heh, well, now you just helped me decide something. I had considered just granting a clean death when all this was said and done, but there can be far worse fates than that, don't you think? Who knows, with enough time, you might become more like my Ann," the King said as he licked his lips at the thought.
The 'Priest' that stood in front of the altar smiled and nodded his head. "What a thoughtful king he is. To consider sparring you so that you can be a part of his glorious realm. You really should thank him for his generosity."
"G-Generosity?" the model asked with a horrified expression. "As if! I'd sooner jump out of that tower I was stuck in than have anything to do with this creep."
A dark smirk spread across Kamoshida's countenance. "We'll have to work on your court etiquette, but I think I have some ideas to correct your lack of manners."
Kamoshida's Palace
Second Floor
Maid's Quarters
Ryuji glanced around what appeared to be the same classroom they'd been standing in before starring down at his changed attire. "Yo, what the heck is this? We didn't go anywhere, did we? Then why are we in these clothes."
"Ryuji Senpai, look closer. This is definitely that other world," Kasumi pointed out.
"She's right, I don't know what to call it, but it's almost like this is a weak spot in this world. I can see the classroom, but that's not all," Ren said as his eyes narrowed behind his mask.
Sure enough, the room they stood in seemed to shift from its standard classroom setting to what appeared to be some sort of maid's quarters. Numerous servants' clothing, brooms, dustpans, mops, buckets, and soaps lined and filled various hangers, shelves, and surfaces.
"Jeez, what is this a janitor's supply room or something?" the former track star asked as he noticed the shifting room.
Suddenly, the door to the room slid open as the tiny silhouette of Morgana appeared. "It's a maid quarters, and this is also what's known as a safe room. And either way, what are you all doing here of all places? I'm sort of amazed you got up here on your own."
The blond snorted. "What are you going on about, cat? We didn't have ta do any hiking through this damn castle. We entered from this place directly."
Morgana's eyes widened before he hissed. "One, I'm not a cat! Two, do you know how dangerous that is?!"
"What makes it so dangerous, Morgana Sensei?" Kasumi asked as her brow knitted together in confusion.
The cat-like being frowned. "You all still have so much to learn. Look, there's only one way to leave a palace, and that's by going out the exit. Sure, you can enter at different points, but that can be too dangerous. What if you'd entered a room that was only a jail cell like the dungeons?"
Ren rubbed his chin in thought. "That would be problematic, but so long as we can determine that entry point is safe, it shouldn't be an issue, right?"
"You just don't get it! As I said, there's only one exit. Taking an easy route might seem convenient, but in a palace, there are too many variables. It's important to make sure a path from the beginning to the end is secured. Otherwise, you risk dead-ends, being surrounded by shadows, and numerous other risks. You don't cut corners, or something terrible could happen."
"Shit, you don't have to bark or, in your case, meow at us. How were we supposed to know? Were you supposed to make contact with us, right? Takamaki needs us, but we don't even know how you planned to reach us," Ryuji spat out in irritation.
Morgana raised a paw before brandishing his claws. "You trying to start something? Some of us were doing real work. I'll have you know I was being a real thief and gathering information. I know exactly where Lady Ann is."
"Y-You do?" a shaky and timid voice asked, startling the entire group before they noticed her. A dark-haired girl slowly peered out from between the rows of draped clothing before shyly taking a step forward.
"WAIT! That's not Kawakami, who is she?!" Morgana sputtered as he waved his paws in the air frantically.
"Shiho," Ren said with a mixture of surprise and apprehension.
"Amamiya? Is that really you?" the girl asked timidly before her gaze shifted to the skull-masked boy. "Which would make you Sakamoto, and I-I would guess the third would be the other student who went missing yesterday. Yoshizawa, right?" she asked. Her expression grew a bit more serious as her attention shifted back to Morgana. "I-I don't have any idea what's going on, but can someone tell me where my friend is?"
"Shit, we're busted. How did she even end up here?" Ryuji questioned as he scratched the back of his head.
Kasumi pursed her lips in thought. "If I had to guess, she must have been close enough when the navigator was used and got pulled in with us. Uh, Senpai, what do we do now?"
Ren shoved his hands into his tailcoat. "We don't have much of an option. Morgana, you want to try and explain? You know way more than we do, but considering the circumstances, I'd say she deserves to know."
The critter nodded his head after a moment. "This is going to be a lot to digest, so I hope you're a quick learner. You're going to have to be. As I was trying to tell these knuckleheads, the only way out is through the main entrance. We, on the other hand, don't have time to escort you out. So you must listen to what I have to say, alright?"
"I-I understand," the girl responded with an assured nod. "Whatever this is, I just want to help Ann. I promise I won't be dead weight."
Morgana scratched at his ear. "Alright then. So it's like this. The world you're in now is actually..."

"Does she think she can just avoid me? That little bitch!" Kamoshida spat out venomously as he clenched his phone tightly as he stared at a string of unanswered text messages. "Maybe she needs to realize there are consequences for pulling a stunt like that. No one ignores me."
The former Olympian shifted his attention as the door to the room suddenly slid open, and a girl stepped into the room.
"O-Oh, Coach! There you are. I did what you asked, but I couldn't find Suzui. I think she ditched again today."
The man visibly tensed, a dark expression fell over his face. "Oh, did she? I thought I made it clear to her what was at stake," he said as he took a step past the girl as he lingered at the door.
The girl, clearly flustered, shifted on her feet as she pressed a hand to her chest. "Um, Coach? For what it's worth. I don't think you need her. I'm willing to work harder and do anything to take her place."
"It's Hikari, right?" he asked as he turned to face her as he gave her a wide grin. "Are you willing to do what's necessary? I have high expectations."
"Yes, sir! Of course, I am. I'll work harder than anyone on the team, I swear!" she exclaimed before flushing slightly. "I just want to make you proud."
Kamoshida allowed a twisted smile to play on his lips. "Good girl, that's what I wanted to hear. I know exactly where we can start," he said as he took a step towards the girl.
The girl only barely seemed to register something was horribly wrong as the man continued closer until he loomed over her. "C-Coach, I don't understand...what are you...what are you doing?"
"Me? I'm just giving you what you wanted. You said you'd do anything, right? You've wanted me ever since you joined this team, right? I'm just going to make your dreams come true..."

Kamoshida's Palace

Maid's Quarters
"So we're no longer in the real world at all? This is just a world created by Coach Kamoshida?" Shiho asked as she regarded how the room seemed to shift from its original state and back to the version that existed within Kamoshida's Castle. "And this Shadow Kamoshida is holding Ann against her will?"
Morgana nodded his head in affirmation. "You got it. There's a lot more I need to cover with all of you, but that's the gist of it."
"Probably seems nuts, doesn't it?" Ryuji asked as he stared at the dark-haired girl as he wondered how she was processing everything.
Shiho shook her head. "That doesn't matter to me. All that I care about right now is that Ann is suffering because of that monster. She's been alone for so long. I won't abandon her, no matter what world this is."
Ren offered a slight grin at the remark. "Now that's the right attitude. Just stick with us, alright? Morgana wasn't exaggerating. To say this world is a bit dangerous is an understatement."
"It is but just leaves the shadows to us! We'll kick their asses, so don't worry about them," Ryuji added with a wide smirk.
Shiho bit down on her lip as she looked between the two boys. "R-Right well, isn't that the opposite of what Amamiya said? Either way, I can watch out for myself... I'm not that fragile anymore..." the girl's sentence got a lot quieter as her hands balled into fists.
The Gymnast offered a reassuring smile. "You heard her, Morgana Sensei. I think we're ready. So how do we reach the tower from here?"
Morgana folded his stubby arms. "There's no need to worry about getting there now. Unlike loudmouth over there, I'm good about spying and being unheard. Lady Ann was just taken to the Chapel and was wearing a meowvalous dress. I think that wannabe King is planning on marrying her."
"FUCKING WHAT?!" the blond called out as he stared at the cat in disbelief. "That asshole is going to force her into something like that? What the fuck are we waiting for then?"
"Is he really planning to marry her? That doesn't sound like him at all," Shiho replied as her brow furrowed in confusion.
"He doesn't exactly sound like the type who cares to pledge himself to anyone," Kasumi said with a concerned expression. "This has to be a trap, right?"
Ren nodded his head before eyeing the door leading out of the safe room. "Most likely, but we don't have an alternative. The longer Ann is with him, the more danger it puts her in. If we don't take the bait, he might get upset, and she could wind up as a casualty of that."
One of Morgana's ears twitched. "Nyeh, I don't like knowingly walking into a trap, but I gave Lady Ann my word we'd come for her. So we just have to be ready. There's no time to waste. We're not far away now, so are you four ready?" he asked as he shuffled over towards the door before glancing around at the foursome.
"Y-Yes, I need to save her. She'd do the same for me!' Shiho said as she nodded to herself.
Ryuji bashed his fists together and smirked again. "Hell yeah! Let's get going!"
"We're right behind you, Sensei!" Kasumi said with an emphatic nod.
"Heh, you heard them. I couldn't have said it better myself," Ren said as he strode forward with the rest of the group and fell into place behind their unlikely guide.
As the group left the sanctuary of the safe room, they found themselves standing definitively in Kamoshida's Castle. The décor of tapestries, armor replicas, and oil paintings greeted them as Morgana led them down a series of long halls.
Every so often, the cat-like being would pause, listen before continuing forward. This process repeated several minutes until the group arrived at the end of a, particularly long corridor.
In front of them stood a large archway. "No doubt about it. This is definitely a trap. He didn't even leave any guards out here. This means he's either being arrogant or is really confident. Shiho, you make sure to stay behind us, alright? This guy is even more of a jerk than the one you're probably used to. There's no telling what he might try," Morgana said in a hushed voice.
The volleyball player nodded as she looked towards the door sternly. "Alright, um, leave Ann to me, okay? I can get to her if you guys are going to be fighting him."
"For real? But it'll be dangerous once a fight breaks out if it's anything like when Sensei's shadow attacked us," Ryuji countered, but the black-haired girl only shook her head.
"T-Then it's all the more important to get Ann to safety, right?"
Kasumi tentatively patted the other girl on the shoulder before smiling. "There's no sense in trying to talk you out of helping, right Shiho Senpai? She's your friend, so we should just focus on giving you cover to get Takamaki out of danger."
Ren nodded after a moment. "Then that's our plan. Morgana, let's do this."
"Right! Lady Ann here we come," the critter said as he sprang forward through the threshold and into the open chapel beyond. Rose petals seemed to fall incessantly from the ceiling, but despite the rooms regal appearance there was still a great sense of pressure and foreboding. As the group found their way into the center of the room they'd see pews lining all the way to the front in front of a large altar.
At the Altar itself they'd see Kamoshida standing before Ann adorned in a less than modest wedding dress. Behind the couple they'd see an obese figure adorned in full ceremonial robes that one might expect from a priest. His familiar voice would reach the group as they saw him reading from some sort of book. "If anyone should object to this union of my liege and his betrothed, let them speak now or forever hold their peace."
"OBJECTION!" Ryuji called out as he stomped loudly, getting the attention of the room.
After a moment the runner glanced back over his shoulder with a large goofy grin. "Aw man, I've always wanted to say that!"
Morgana visibly facepalmed. "...That was your big hero moment? Jeez. Let me show you how it's really done blondie. King Kamoshida, we're here to steal your bride!"
"Right on time!" Kamoshida chuckled darkly. "And as predictable as always. But what's this? Another interloper in my castle?" he said as he leered at Shiho in the distance.
Ann found herself staring at the group with a slightly puzzled expression. "Sakamoto? And is that you Amamiya? And a talking cat? A girl I don't recognize at all...Wait Shiho?!" Her eyes widened as she regarded her best friend.
"Ann!" the dark-haired girl called back as she took a few steps forward. Small tears welled up as she wrung her hands together. "Ann are you okay? I was so scared when I didn't hear from you... I got worried that he might have..."
The model found herself forcing a smile despite the fact she was in more immediate peril, she couldn't help but feel the need to assure her friend first. "Don't worry, I'm just fine, Shiho. I think this creep was more interested in using me as bait for the moment."
"Aww this is such a touching moment. Not a step closer, though," Kamoshida said as he brandished a small blade before holding it towards Ann's neck. "Make a move towards her and I'll slit her throat. Ann now would be an excellent time to start begging. Maybe I might take mercy and keep you and your friend here as pets."
A look of horror mixed with despair filled the girl's eyes with his words.
"Bastard!" Ren hissed in fury as he tried to devise a means of getting closer.
"Finish your thought, brat. I'd love to hear some suggestions," Kamoshida sneered.
"Unfortunately, You all have much more immediate concerns beyond my Liege," the heavyweight man said as he took a half step forward and extended his chubby palms.
"Principal Kobayakawa?" Kasumi asked in surprise as she regarded the rotund man at the front of the room.
"No, remember, these are Kamoshida's shadows. This is no different than that cognition of Kawakami," Morgana explained as he pivoted his head around. "Except we've got more than just them to worry about..."
At every corner of the room, a couple of shadows began to materialize. Not only blocking their retreat but as they closed in, it left them soon surrounded.
"What now, Senpai?" Kasumi asked quietly.
"There's no way around it. We have to stand our ground and fight. We have to find an opening to get Ann away from that bastard," Ren said as he grabbed at his knife.
"Heh, yeah, get ready, Shiho," Ryuji said as he tightened his grip on his pipe. His smirk faltered as he glanced over at the girl.
Shiho froze in place, with her arms slightly trembling as she watched the king's shadow press the knife against her best friend's neck. Her tears finally fell as she watched his other hand take hold of his captive. "A-Ann..."
"Please...just let them go. I-I'll do whatever you want. You can do whatever sick shit you want, but please don't hurt them," the blonde pleaded as tears filled her eyes, mirroring Shiho's own emotions.
A lecherous grin crossed the barely clothed man's face. "Don't have much faith in these so called friends, do you? You forget this is my castle. I'll do as I please, but I don't need your permission to do so," he hissed into her ear, almost like a serpent.
"Lady Ann! Don't you or Shiho here shed any tears over this jerk! Didn't I tell you? I'm the dashing thief known as Morgana! We're not leaving without you!" He called out as he suddenly sprang forward onto one of the approaching shadow's shoulders before launching into the air. He produced a slingshot before taking careful aim as he launched a projectile at the King himself.
Kamoshida felt a sharp pain in the hand that was brandishing his blade. He hissed in pain as it caused him to drop the weapon onto the floor with an audible clatter. "Augh! You Wretch!"
Ann ignored the heat stinging her eyes as she saw her opportunity. She swiftly elbowed the King before quickly stepping away from him and the Priest. "I'm sick of shedding tears because of you."
"Nice one Morgana Sensei!" Kasumi called out as she cartwheeled to avoid a strike before piercing one of the shadows through the chest with her rapier.
A loud crunch sounded as Ryuji's metal pipe smashed against a shadow's head, causing it to dissolve away. "Alright, let's hurry up and get these small fries dealt with so we can finally give that shitty king the ass-kicking we owe him!" Ryuji added as he pivoted on his feet, dodging a swipe from another monster.
"Sounds like a plan, Ryuji, so long as each of us gets a turn," Ren smirked beneath his mask as he dove forward and pulled Shiho out of the way of one of the shadows before its tower-shield could connect with the shocked girl. He narrowly avoided the shield bash as he weaved around it before burying his blade into its neck and kicking it back as it, too, dissolved into shadows.
"Smooth moves, mophead," Morgana commented with a fangy grin before somersaulting through the air and slicing another shadow in half with his oversized scimitar. "Their numbers are now cut in half. Just keep it up, guys, and we'll have them cleaned up in no time."
"I-I... Amami- Ren, please. I'm too scared, p-please help Ann. As long as that monster is here, she'll be in danger and, I'm not strong enough," Shiho muttered as her head hung low.
The boy shifted his attention momentarily to the shaken girl. "I promise we're going to help her. Shiho. I can't claim to know what you've been through, but I've felt hopeless and powerless until just recently myself. You're stronger than you know. That's why you went so far to find Ann, right? Because you wanted to protect her no matter what? To be honest, I'm kind of jealous. I've never had a friend like that..."
"What are you doing, you imbecile?! Don't just stand there! They're destroying my guards. It's high time you pull your weight around here!" Shadow Kamoshida spat as he rubbed at his injured hand before glaring balefully at the heavyweight Priest.
"Y-Yes of course, my Liege, forgive my inaction. I will dispatch them immediately," the man stammered out as he strode forward away from the altar and began to take a few strides ahead.
Kamoshida scoffed, quickly shifting his focus back to Ann as he stooped over to pick up his fallen weapon as he leered at her. "I hope my blushing bride enjoys the show. Once Kobayakawa is done with them, there won't be much left except to move along to the honeymoon."
The four remaining shadows leaped backward from the group as a bellowing voice filled the room. "Mabufu!" the Priest yelled as he held out his hand. Suddenly a blustering icy cold wind roared throughout the center of the room as it began to surround the group.
"W-W-Where is all this power coming from? I-It's nothing like the others we've been fighting," Kasumi said between chattering teeth as she felt her limbs twitching involuntarily from the frigid air.
"Nyeh, not all shadows are made equally. This one is a lot like Kawakami's. Its magic is extremely potent, though. We need to think of something quick," Morgana responded.
Ren clenched his jaw as he, without warning, pulled Shiho against him tightly in an attempt to shield her as much as he could from the cold air as he could see ice beginning to accumulate on the ground around them. "R-Ryuji... think you can zap him like you did with the other s-shadow?"
"On it! Let's get 'em, Captain!" the blond shouted as he pulled away his mask. The skeletal pirate appeared above him and leveled its cannon arm at the priest.
"Zio!" Ryuji roared while the pirate fired a blast of lightning directly at the shadow. However, the magic struck him but seemed not even to leave a single mark. "What the hell?! It didn't work at all!"
"Dangit. He must be immune to electricity, but how is this attack still going? This shouldn't be possible," Morgana shuddered as he could feel his body growing more and more unresponsive.
The Priest grinned widely. "It is my distinct pleasure to rid you scum from my Liege's castle once and for all."
"I-I don't know how much longer I can stay on my feet, and the wind is so strong...I don't think we can break out either," Kasumi said as she collapsed to one knee as the ice began to form over the end of her boots and gloves.
A howl of laughter escaped Shadow Kamoshida. "Don't you see now? How pointless it was to defy me? In the end, I always get my way. That is why I'm the king, and everyone else are merely my servants."
Tears fell renewed from Ann's eyes as she could barely make out the forms of those trapped with the vortex of ice, but she could see that one by one, they were on the verge of succumbing to it. "Shiho...everyone...I'm so sorry. In the end, it's just like it's always been. I'm forced to watch and unable to do anything."
"Ann! Please, run while you still can," Shiho cried out as she weakly raised her head. Her eyes were red and puffy as she locked her gaze with the model. "Please, if you can escape, then just get to safety. I don't want you to be in danger anymore!"
"...Shiho," Ann choked out as she felt a sharp pain in her chest.
"Well, you heard her, Ann, go ahead and run. That'll give me something to do once these fools are dead," Kamoshida smirked deviously. "Or I'm willing to hear you plead again. Drop to your knees and beg nicely. You'll be on your knees soon enough anyway. Consider this just practice for the future..."
"...No.."
"Hm, I didn't quite catch that? Are these fools not worth degrading yourself for, or could it be that you've finally accepted your fate?"
"SHUT UP! I'm so sick of listening to you speak. I'm so tired of letting a piece of shit like you toy with me. What was I thinking?!... I've had enough of this. ...You've pissed me off, you son of a bitch. I won't let you screw with me or anyone else ever again!" she screamed so loudly that her voice echoed across the Chapel.
Suddenly the girl fell deathly quiet a moment before she began to visibly convulse and scream as her eyes began to glow. She clutched at her forehead as words began to echo through her mind.
My, it's taken far too long. Tell me, who is going to protect her and everything you cherish if you do nothing? Forgiving him or hiding from the truth was never the option. Such is the scream of the other you that dwells within. I am thou, thou art I. We can finally forge a contract...
Ann took a shaky breath as she stepped forward before whispering into the air. "I hear you...Carmen. You're right. No more holding back!" she exclaimed as her soft voice turned once more into a yell as a red mask with ears at its top formed over her face.
"N-No! Another one?! How is this possible? You're supposed to be powerless, just a piece of meat and nothing more!" Kamoshida sputtered as he took several steps backward.
Ann's eyes continued to glow as the voice in her head continued to speak. "Excellent. Nothing is solved by holding yourself back. If you understand, then I shall gladly lend you my strength."
The blonde, without hesitation, reached up and wrenched the mask from her face. Blood showered the ground as a sudden surge of energy radiated off of her in waves. The bridal dress she'd been wearing turned blood red as she shifted into a form-fitting attire. Along with her clothing, a whip formed in her hand. Behind her stood a feminine-looking Persona with a billowing red dress and raven black hair. Ann, who now stood unmasked, glared dangerously at the King. "You know what? I'm not some cheap girl you can toy with, you scumbag. This is for Shiho, me, and everyone else you treated like trash," she said as she flicked her whip against the tiled floor, shattering it in the process.
"Enough of your talk bitch! Kobayakawa, finish the others off now!" Kamoshida roared.
"Y-Yes my liege!" the man cried as he seemed to concentrate more energy into his attack.
"I don't think you heard me the first time. I won't let you have your way with anyone ever again!" Ann screamed. "Carmen, show him our strength!" she yelled as she darted towards the maelstrom of ice.
"Fool, running right into my attack. You've only sealed your fate," the Priest chortled as the blonde forced her way into the spiral torrent of wind and ice.
"Agi!" Ann cried as suddenly the Persona who flanked her glowed brilliantly as the ice began to evaporate by the heat she produced. As the Priest's attack was canceled, he and Kamoshida would see the blonde standing in front of the group in a defensive position as the others found themselves in various states of recovery.
"Woah, that was incredible, Lady Ann, and you look meowvalous too!" Morgana offered in praise as he bounded to his feet once more.
"And not a moment too soon," Kasumi said as she collected her rapier from the ground.
Ren nodded in agreement as he held out his hand towards Shiho. "See? She didn't need me to save her. The person she needed most was you."
"R-Right..." the girl muttered as she wiped her eyes. She reached out and grabbed onto his hand. As Shiho steadied herself back onto her feet, she smiled softly, looking towards Ann. "But I already knew how strong she really was..."
"Wow! Holy shit, Takamaki!" Ryuji called out with a grin. "You look hot, and all but should we be worried about how comfortable you seem in an outfit like that?"
Ann glanced over her shoulder before leveling a blistering glare at the boy, with a notable flush on her face."O-Oh, shut up, Sakamoto! Like I had any control over it. If you've got time to ogle me, you can do something useful and help us."
"He's obviously hopeless. Some people just don't know how to talk to women," Morgana sighed as he shifted into a fighting stance. "Now that we have you by our side, I'm feeling way better about our chances, though."
A bead of sweat rolled down Kobayakawa's shiny head. "W-Well, don't just stand there. Those interlopers are making fools of us and disgracing King Kamoshida. Wipe them out immediately!" he yelled as he gestured at the four remaining sentries.
One by one, each of the shadows did as they were bid and began to march towards the group. Meanwhile, they could see the Priest chanting something and seemed to be preparing some sort of attack.
A grin spread across Ren's face as he raised a hand to his mask. "We had no trouble with these small fries before, so let's wrap this up. No more holding back. Everyone, let's show them what our combined Personas can do. Arsene!" he called out as the winged being soon materialized behind him.
"You got it! Let's finish off these scrubs! Captain Kidd!" Ryuji added as he rested his pipe on his shoulder. The pirate appeared beside the gentleman thief, its cannon arm crossing its chest.
"Hey, you rookies are catching on quick, but I can't let you steal all the glory, now can I?" Morgana asked with a toothy grin before thrusting a paw into the air. "Zorro, come forward and blow our enemies into dust!" As his voice carried over the room, the giant hulking Persona took shape as it wielded its rapier as it shone next to the Pirate Captain.
Kasumi mirrored Joker as she tapped at her own mask. "I shouldn't just let my senpais have all the fun. Cendrillon, come forth and banish these shadows with your radiating light!" she cried as the luminescent persona took shape and performed a single twirl like a ballerina before it took its position on the opposite side of the gentleman thief.
"Kamoshida, I hope you enjoy this show, you bastard! Because once we're done with all your puppets, we're coming for you next!" Ann said as she cracked her whip against the floor, again causing an audible crack. "Carme, burn our enemy to cinders! Make them feel all the pain they've put us through."
The fiery femme fatale suddenly shifted forward as the open-air seemed to sizzle with the heat radiating off the figure as it stopped next to Zorro. An almost overwhelming pressure-filled the room as the five Personas stood side by side.
"N-No, this is too much. You fool, don't just stand there. Stop them! Do something!" Kamoshida yelled as he stomped the floor in a panic-filled fury.
"Please have mercy, my King. I won't fail you! Stop them, don't let them attack!" the Priest cried as he thrust out one of his chubby palms. "You'll go no further, Mafubu!" he screamed as he once again began to summon a torrent of ice as the four sentries closed within striking range...
"Heh, not this time. The tables have turned in our favor.." Ren mused before snapping his fingers. "Eiha!" he yelled as Arsene glowed as tendrils of red and black energy jetted forward.
One by one, each of the other persona users followed suit as Lightning, Wind, Light, and Fire joined with Arsene's curse attack as each of the abilities found their respective mark.
Ren, Ryuji, Morgana, and Kasumi's attacks utterly decimated the four shadows converging upon the group. Meanwhile, Carmen's torrent of flames cut through the Priest's ice attack before hitting the portly man square in the chest, the attack sending him hurtling into the far wall with enough force to crack the wall behind him.
"Woah, now that's some teamwork. Hard to believe how well you're all handling yourself. It's really something," Morgana said with a pleased expression.
Ann nodded silently before glancing over her shoulder as her expression softened as she stared at her best friend. "Hey, are you alright? I'm sorry it took me so long, and if...I worried you."
"It's okay," Shiho cried out as she rushed up to the blonde and pulled her into a tight hug. The volleyball player buried her head against Ann's shoulder as she felt a few tears begin to fall again. "As long as you are alright, that's all that matters."
Ann sniffed quietly as she hugged the shorter girl tightly. "Jeez, stop that, or you're going to make me cry again too. I never expected so many people to look out for me, but I knew I could count on you. You've always been there for me."
Kasumi couldn't help but smile fondly at the tender display before she registered a small hiccup. "Ryuji Senpai, are you alright?"
The boy's face was buried into his forearm as he turned away from the others. "I-It's nothing, don't worry about it..." he shouted back as streams of tears were evident as they fell down his cheeks.
Ren couldn't help but grin at the boy's denial, but his delight suddenly shifted to surprise as he noticed movement at the front of the Chapel. Kamoshida was cowering behind a pew, but the portly form of Kobayakawa was stirring and getting back to his feet. "Guys heads up. This isn't over yet."
Morgana's eyes widened. "Woah, he survived a direct hit like that? He really is like that other cognition. We'll have to be more thorough this time."
"...You fools won't get the chance," the Priest bellowed as he suddenly began to plod forward as a manic grin spread across his portly face. "Don't you dare compare me with that wench. I'm far more powerful than her, especially with a little assistance. You will rue the day you defied my King," the man said as he held up a blue will seed in one of his meaty palms before suddenly crushing it.
Almost instantly, his entire frame was enveloped by a visible blue aura, and much like with Kawakami's cognition, a powerful pressure began rolling off of him. His veins and eyes began to bulge slightly as his skin turned a slight shade of blue. As he spoke once more, his voice had become several octaves deeper. "I, Kobayakawa, shall banish you from this kingdom once and for all!"
"Morgana Sensei, what should we do? Takamaki Senpai's fire seemed to work well before. Do you think that'll still work?" Kasumi asked as she shot a worried look towards the feline.
The critter frowned. "I-I'm not really sure. These will seeds getting used like this is still really new to me. I'm not sure what will work anymore. We know his magic was already strong, though. Maybe we should try to get in close and stop him with a physical attack?"
"Then there's no time to lose, go, Captain Kidd! Lunge!" Ryuji called out. He started darting forward as he ripped away his mask. The pirate appeared one again and blasted ahead on its tiny ship.
The Priest's grin continued to widen to almost unnatural proportions before suddenly his chest began to swell up. As he opened his mouth, a hurricane-force gale greeted Ryuji and his persona head-on. The attack launched him halfway across the room and sent him crashing into a pew shattering it in the process.
Kamoshida's former arrogance returned as he grabbed at his sides and howled with laughter. "Once a loser, always a loser. Even if you all worked together, there's no way you could counter my servant's magic. But by all means, try. It's so much more entertaining..."
"Ryuji?!" Ann cried out as she saw the boy lying there unmoving before suddenly taking in a sharp breath.
"This is bad. Really bad. I hate to say it, but I think the king is right. Not only is his magic stronger than what we can do with our personas at the moment, but he can use more than one element. There's no way around it. Somehow we have to close in and engage him close," Morgana suggested.
"What if we engage him at once from more than one direction?" Ren suggested as he cast a worried glance towards where Sakamoto had collapsed.
Kasumi gripped her rapier tightly. "It seems as solid a plan as any. I doubt he's nearly as fast as that cognition of Kawakami Sensei was."
"Then it's decided the three of us will approach from three angles and divide his attention. Lady Ann, you look out for Shiho and make sure Ryuji is alright if you get the chance. Otherwise, you can cover us here from a distance," Morgana said in a series of hushed whispers.
The model gritted her teeth but ultimately bit back any protest she may have had. "...I understand. Shiho? If this goes badly, I want you to run, and I don't want you to stop till you're out of this place, okay?"
"N-No, Ann, I can't leave you here. I took a risk following everyone, and I can't just back away now," Shiho said as she pulled back a little and stared at the model, her expression getting more serious.
"Go!" Morgana called out as he, Ren, and Kasumi sprang into action as they darted forward before suddenly letting their paths diverge as they tried to divide Kobayakawa's attention.
"Shiho, I-I know that, and it means everything to me, but I can't lose you. I was willing to let that asshole have his way if it meant protecting you. I stood by for so long, I knew he was abusing you, but I felt so powerless. I was scared, but I'm not scared anymore, and I'm not powerless either. That's why I can't bear to see you be hurt again..."
Suddenly a series of screams and explosions filled the room. As Ann snapped her attention forward, she watched as Morgana tumbled to the ground and Ren landed awkwardly before falling to one knee as he cradled Kasumi against one of his shoulders.
"What happened to all that bluster from before? This is what happens to those who oppose his majesty. Seeing as you're the last two able to stand, it's time to correct that," the Priest said. "Let's see you melt this! Bufula!" He yelled as he summoned a focused blast of ice. 'I don't think Carmen can overpower that... I can't let...' Ann's thoughts trailed off as she, without warning, turned and pulled Shiho into a bear hug as she turned her back to the attack. She offered the girl a tender expression. "Shiho, I love you..."
A split second passed before the blonde let out an excruciating scream as the torrent of ice hit her square in the back, sending her forward through the air, but she kept her grip on Shiho as the pair tumbled across a long carpet before finally coming to a stop.
"Well done! You've finally earned your keep. Now finish these peasants off. They've defiled my castle long enough," Kamoshida said with a wide grin as he crossed his arms triumphantly.
A soft groan escaped Shiho as her vision spun. As she sat up onto her knees, she shook her head. "Ann... are you oka-" Her voice died in her throat as she looked at the blonde lying still beside her. Shiho's breath caught in her throat as she gently reached out to Ann, pulling her up a little into her lap. "N-No... Please, I love you too..."
The blonde winced as she reached up and shakily patted the other girl on the cheek. "Jeez, I thought between the two of us, you were supposed to be the smart one. It's not too late to run. There's no stopping that kind of attack..."
"Heh, she's not wrong, you know? Feel free to run all you like. It's not like a beaten little bitch like you has a chance if these fools couldn't cut it," Kamoshida sneered. "End this before they try to pull something. Until the very last breath has left them, it's not over."
Koboyakawa bowed his head submissively. "It would be my pleasure. Please watch my liege as I eradicate these intruders with one attack!" He laughed as he raised his hands above his head as the room began to vibrate from the magic he was gathering seemingly.
"No, no no, no no..." Shiho muttered as she slammed her eyes shut, trying her best to cover Ann with her own body. She gritted her teeth as she felt the room shake but was confused as everything seemed to go quiet.
The dark-haired girl relaxed as a mature voice echoed in her head. How long are you going to cower in fear? Aren't you tired? Aren't you ready to finally stand up against the tyranny you have bore witness to for far too long? Let I, the other you that exists inside, give you the strength you've been afraid of. I am thou, thou art I! Let us become the shield that protects others for a change!
Shiho's breath quickened again as she reached up, grabbing ahold of the mask that had formed over her eyes. She ripped it away, screaming as blood shot out, staining the ground around her. "Persona!"
A large eruption of pressure pulsed away from the girl as she slowly raised to her feet. Her outfit glowed and took its new shape. A long flowing black gown with a built-in leather corset covered most of her body but opened enough to keep her legs free from being restricted, as well as show off the high black leather boots that cover them. Well-crafted metal breastplate and gauntlets shone brilliantly, matching the medieval helmet's visor that covered most of her face. Her long black hair was flowing freely in the slight wind created by the magic that vibrated around the chapel.
Behind her, a tall woman formed in a white gown of her own. However, no legs were visible at all under her flowing dress. Her face was covered by a silver mask that depicted anguish and pain with a deep frown. Around her shoulder was a blood-red shawl that reached out to both of her sides, almost forming arms as they twisted and wrapped around to lift up two large circular shields around the persona. Her actual arms clasped in front of her as if in prayer. Shiho glared at Kamoshida through her new mask as she called out. "Rise up, Antigone!"
Ann weakly turned her head from where she lay as she regarded her friend and the persona that had taken shape behind her. Her eyes widened marginally before a tiny smile pulled at her lips. "Go get him, Shiho..."
"Woah, what's with these kids? To think this many normal humans have this kind of potential," Morgana breathed as he struggled to try and sit up.
"Turns out there was a spark deep down after all," Ren chuckled faintly as he wrapped his free arm around Kasumi's waist. "You alright?"
The Gymnast winced slightly. "I'm not sure I'm ready for another round yet, Senpai. Looks like we have to put our faith in Shiho."
"Ugh shit, looks like it... My knee is killing me again, but don't worry... she's got this," Ryuji muttered as he shifted around, doing his best to sit up from the broken pew.
"What are you waiting on?! Kill her and the rest of those fools. You completely wiped the floor with all of them. You think she'll be any different?!" Kamoshida spat. "She can't do anything for herself. Remind her who's in charge around here."
The Priest shivered slightly. "Y-Yes of course, my lord, I won't hold anything back. There's no way they'll withstand this," he said as his eyes bulged as he pivoted his hands out in front of him. "You'll all be nothing but frozen statues to decorate my Liege's castle. MABUFULA!" he bellowed as he fired out a powerful blast of ice that began to expand as it rocketed towards Shiho rapidly...
The girl took a deep breath as she faced Kobayakawa and wrenched her mask away again. "Antigone! Bufurakarn!" Her persona appeared again, this time raising its right-hand shield that began to glow a bright blue. As the ice shot out towards the group, the glow started to cover each of the other persona users. As the magic collided against them, the light shone brighter, and just as Kobayakawa refocused his eyes, he realized all too late that Shiho had redirected the blast of ice back towards him.
"N-No that's impossible! She reflected all of that?!" the Priest screamed in horror. As the attack was returning to its source, it was increasing in velocity and far more focused. He was hit directly by the reflected attack and sent soaring back, nearly hitting his King as he was sent through the altar, his large frame shattering it against his back. One of his legs twitched as he lay on the ground, clearly stunned at the moment.
"...What...N-No, this can't be happening!" Kamoshida sputtered out fearfully as he pedaled backward before turning and bolting out one of the side doors, leaving his servant to face the group alone.
"Y-Yeah, you better run. Nyeh, good going, Shiho!" Morgana exclaimed weakly as he raised a tiny paw into the air.
Ann smiled up at her friend. "I always knew you were incredible, Shiho. I'm just glad other people can see that now."
"Guys, we need to finish him off. Before he pulls some other trick," Ren suggested as he struggled to stand and help Kasumi to her feet as well.
"Then let's do it together. None of us need to fight alone anymore! Antigone, Media!" Shiho called out as her persona moved behind her again. The silver-skinned maiden finally unclasped her actual hands and outstretched them. A soothing golden light radiated off of her and washed over all of the others.
A short cough sounded as Ryuji moved back onto his feet. He slowly began to move his arm in a small circle as his smirk returned. "Oh shit, now that's awesome! Fricken' sweet, thanks, Shiho!"
Kasumi's eyes widened in realization as she found herself able to stand without support and felt most of her aches disappear. "That's incredible. You really came through for us. It's a good thing you were tailing us in the first place."
"That's my Shiho for you," Ann said, smiling as she brushed herself off before pulling her friend into a tight hug. "We tried to defend her, but in the end, she was the one who protected all of us."
Morgana grinned deviously. "Uh-huh, and now the tables have turned back in our favor. Though we have something to do first before we move on, right?"
"Agreed," Ren said with a conspiratorial grin.
Cognitive Kobayakawa let out a weak groan as his vision slowly returned as he looked up from where he lay. "Curse you. I'll..." he trailed off as his face grew deathly pale as he saw six figures standing before him, with what appeared to be only minor wounds. "Just what are you, kids?"
Morgana offered a grin in response. "We haven't ironed it all out yet, but I've come up with a name that I like. Why don't you call us the Phantom Thieves of Hearts..."
"Phantom Thieves?! W-What nonsense. I will purge you from this land if it's the last thing I do," the Cognition wheezed.
Ren smirked as he brandished his knife. "Funny you mention it. Everyone, it's time for an all-out attack. Let's finish this..."
Author Note
Uh I feel really gross having just wrote that penultimate scene, even though it simply implied something dark. Again I want to emphasis that I take no pleasure in writing things even alluding to such matters. However I also think that it is true to both the source material and to the kind of person we see depicted with Kamoshida. I will never glorify that kind of material, but I think it would also be a disservice to ignore the darker themes and serious themes that this series touches on. Also I think to make the story feel like it has more consequences, I think it's important that the butterfly effects that occur via things changing, not always only result in good changes. I think it's important that while something good may occur from one change, it could lead to something else bad or worse taking place. Anyway, I apologize if this scene made anyone uncomfortable, that's why I did place a warning at the beginning of the chapter. I tried my best to keep it very simple and not linger on anything.
Anyways, as always thank you to Pettypunk for being my wonderful Beta and for personally helping with putting together that massive scene that took up the lion's share of the chapter. Seriously you rock. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the rest of the chapter. I certainly loved getting to have Shiho come into her own and really explore more of her bond and dynamic with Ann. It felt really wholesome and I needed it.
I've seen this brought up several times, but I promise that the keywords to enter Kamoshida's palace were used with both groups. I even went back self-consciously and doublechecked more than once. The words: Pervert, Kamoshida, Castle, and Shujin Academy are used both with Kasumi/Kawakami and with Ren/Ryuji/Ann. Since I've seen it mentioned so much, I just wanted to clarify that. I even made sure to confirm that those are the keywords for his palace. I think going forward, I'll bolden the keywords so it will stand out more for the readers.
As for the separate entry point element, I will admit that I sort of ran with my own interpretation of that. I thought Morgana's explanation would serve to explain things well enough and will also explain why going forward the group will typically still enter from the entrance. Anyways, Until next time folks!
(My Beta and fellow writer Pettypunk helped devise this for any original personas. I think it should be very helpful for people trying to connect or understand these characters without a direct reference.)
OC PERSONA COMPENDIUM:
Name: Suzui Shiho
Persona: Antigone
Social Link: ?
Physical Description: A tall woman shrouded in a white gown with no visible legs beneath her flowing dress. Her face remains covered by a silver mask that depicts visible anguish and pain set with a deep frown. Around her shoulder is a blood-red shawl that reaches out to both of her sides, almost forming arms. They are twisted and wrapped around to lift up two large circular shields. Her actual arms tend to remain clasped in front of her as if in a constant state of prayer.
Background: The tragic heroine from the Theban trilogy of Greek plays. A woman who put herself in danger to defend the honor of her loved ones against a cruel king.
Powers: Antigone is a persona that relies solely on defense. Through the use of her two shields she can both block and repel physical and magical attacks. However reflecting attacks especially stronger attacks requires more magic than simply blocking. Theoretically she can be used to protect from almost any type attack save almighty attacks. However while she doesn't have an elemental weakness like most persona, she has zero attacks and is solely able to defend. This ultimate defense though has to be used sparingly or is its user can burn out swiftly. The only other ability she posses is a limited group heal. However since it too burns magic, it has to be used sparingly or Shiho will be left unable to heal or defend anyone.
Review Section:
Zekyram: Great chapter! The deadline was given so much earlier, without the future Thieves even knowing how to handle that. Hmm... would that also mean that the expulsion threat that Kamoshida gives is not applicable anymore? And that last bit with Kawakami...is that alluding to the events of Persona 3, maybe? And now more characters introduced that could potentially have Personas. Whelp, I'll be awaiting the next chapter. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I really wanted to strike a balance between recreating some of the iconic moments, but also finding ways to try new things. I think if I did almost a complete 1 for 1 retelling, people would get bored with that quick. Which is why I tend to shift scenes at times when a character is relaying information that's already been given to other characters. It seems like a good way of avoiding boring the audience and giving them something different to see. As for references? You'll just have to see. Anything is possible =)
UltimateCCC: Morgana once said about boldness for ladies to take matters into their own hands? Does Ren's parents care about him, if so then he should call them once in a while?
I do intend to touch on Ren's connection with his parents in the future. I think it's going to be a strained relationship to say the least. I think it fits with what we see in canon.
GVN Chaos: Oh, I just blew through all 6 chapters in a row, and a few things came to mind:
1. How did Kawakami and Kasumi get into the palace in the first place? I have check chapter 3 a few times, and while their conversation have 2 of 3 keywords, they still lack a "place".
2. Kamoshida is - well, acting like i expected someone like him to act - not exactly plesant to read about him, but good writing so far. But maybe you can explain more? I mean, the game never made it clear why did he actively attacking Ren so much.
3. Having Kawakami helping the Thieves earlier is a nice idea that i have never seen before, so i'm waiting to see it turn out. When Kamoshida is out of the picture, i expected she to have a more different mindset from the rest of the Thieves
4. Can I have more Ren/Kasumi scene please?
I addressed this in my note for this chapter, but the location and other keywords are mentioned with both groups. I'm definitely going to bolden these in the future, because I've seen more than one person ask and I don't want anyone to think it's a plothole or anything haha. I do intend to get more into Kamoshida and not just his depravity but how it got to this point and why he has such an immediate disdain for Ren. Kawakami is certainly going to play a very different role in the future. She may or may not be so keen on them continuing after Kamoshida. And yes have no fear Senpai and Sumi will get their scenes. Actually since a lot has happened so quickly in the timeline, there's going to be quite a lot of downtime before the first calling card is sent. Which does two things, it lets me get more into Kamoshida's stuff and secondly a chance to show the current group's founding as the thieves. I want to do way more social interactions, even more than we see in canon. Getting to see them go out and play Pool or throw darts in Royal really made me consider all the possibilities for a fanfic scenario. Anyway, thank you so much for all your questions, thoughts, and your review in general!
RosyMiranto18: Who, who is this person that Kawakami talked to in the end. I started to have a feeling that Kawakami's a Gekkoukan Graduate since she would be 25 at most after the events between P3 and P5 (in 2016) It may be Sumaru's Seven Sisters, but she sounds too old for that, and i think that Memorial is meant for Minato. But the problem is, whom did she talk with. I suspect either Minako or Mitsuru as the most likely candidate, but Yukari may also be an interesting twist (since they have the same VA), but i'm sure it can't be Non-SEES members because Kawakami certainly seems to be no stranger than the Shadow Realm based on the conversation. Well, i guess that is all for today. can't wait to see your opinion kn this theory, so.. see you later and Keep Update!
P.S.: Fucking Kamo-SHIT-a
Perhaps. I can't and won't comment at this time. That wouldn't be much fun now would it? It's a great theory though. As for Kamoshita? Yeah I'm right there with you. I have to say, he's such a prick that he really makes you root for the group and I think that's what got me sucked in at the beginning. Seeing him get his dues felt so earned after all the shit he pulled. Anyhoo, thanks for your review and I'll see you soon!
Wendel Santana: Great, as if the original time limit wasn't enough, there's still this damn son of a bitch Kamoshida pressing on.
With this chapter and the next ones - I can sense the danger and chaos ~
Do you plan to bring any special features in the future? Whether in person or explicit or implicit references?
Continue, pls!
Yeah I think I've probably dialed Kamoshida up a few notches even from his canon counterpart. Though I suspect he would have been more diabolical there too if it wasn't due to censorship. There's certain things I'm not going to do, because I find it distasteful, but I also realize that it's very clear what Kamoshida was doing in canon and I don't think watering it down or ignoring that is the right call either. So I'm trying to approach it tactfully. I think it's important that for a good change caused by a butterfly effect, that other consequences can arise as a result. Do you have any features in mind? Just sort of curious. Anyway, thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
