'that fucking mutt has been coming daily to her house but sorely lacked the balls to fight for her, he didn't even knock.' Such a pity that he hadn't told her about it, a pity that he was stealing her from under his nose. He didn't deserve her. A powerless lesser yokai could not compete with him, Kagome deserved the very best and Koga was exactly that. According to him, only Sesshomaru could be considered his equal, and he was asexual or something. Koga wanted to mate his woman as soon as Inuyasha removed himself from the relationship, but Kagome was not ready to let him go. Surely this trouble lay in her humanity. Female yokai were much more direct, moving to a better opportunity when it presented itself.
He felt the vibration of human footsteps on the stairs and went to the door, 'maybe is the pathetic human' he thought. Koga met Hojo a few years ago but didn't bother to learn his name. He could smell fear coming from the human in his presence. If Kagome could smell it, she would have rid of the nuisance herself. Since she couldn't, he contented himself watching his every move with attention, ready to fight, even when in appearance he was lounging on her couch. Humans were deceitful, so he must be ready to kill. This particular human wasn't Kagome's stalker. He went to the apartments above Sota and him so Koga relaxed. It was time for him to go anyway, he would see her some other time. Right now, Inuyasha gave him all the time in the world.
Inuyasha watched him leave with a couple of wolves on either side. A month had passed, and he was still not on top of his duties. That very morning Sesshomaru was a prick about it, even blaming Kagome at one point. The memory of it brought back the anger he felt. His brother was having fun with his misery, always hinting at something and never revealing the truth. That was Sesshomaru's nature. Anyway, he was busy protecting Kagome. He was lost in remorse, but when she came home he noticed. 'Ha, the mangy wolf missed her', he was glad to see her, even if she didn't know he was watching her, or maybe she did, with her miko powers. So completely wrapped in his fantasies, he failed to notice her demeanor, she was watching her back constantly, her hands fidgeting, as they do when she gets nervous, and on top of all that, she looked up to her apartment twice, maybe to see if anyone could see her, maybe help her?.
He couldn't smell her from this high up, so he took his time to recognize her behavior, and when he did, he reacted quickly. Inuyasha jumped down while expanding his aura to sense danger. Something could be wrong if she was acting this weird. As soon as he hit the floor, he noticed the two lower demons behind her. She sensed him and turned to walk toward him. 'Good girl,' jumping above her to be between her and the demons, Inuyasha used his Sankon Tesso attack on the first unsuspecting one, killing him with the blow and turning right to strike the other, but the lowlife was on the run. He got a good read of his surroundings searching for other attackers and when he found none he sprinted to the runaway and performed the same attack on him. These demons only grunted, they couldn't even talk there to do the lowly bidding for a master. When Inuyasha calmly returned to Kagome's side, he was apprehensive.
She was, of course, ready to use her rusty powers, leaving the shrine, and with that, her training was the second worst thing after the murder of her parents, 'you can do it, they have little demonic energy'. She hoped to find someone to help her in the apartment, but she knew Koga would be gone. But Inuyasha was around too. She could feel his yoki like a warm blanket almost daily. She hoped to see him every time he lurked. Deep in her thoughts, she noticed him jumping down and in an instant, it was over. Releasing a breath she thanked him and hugged him and he visibly stiffened, 'Inu must have smelled Koga on me' she thought with sadness, Kagome was remembering his unacceptable behavior, as she did almost every time they saw one another these days.
"Do you want to come in? I can make you some ramen" she said smiling her troubles away hoping she could repay his kindness, 'I have to stop thinking about him in that way, that's all'.
"Yeah, we have to talk," he said, utterly serious, and she began to worry. He didn't have any kind words for her anymore. Or that's what she thought because the contact between them was minimal and he was always silent. Her thoughts carried them to her apartment, Sota must be well asleep by now.
"Are you ok? Your claws are covered in blood, I can help you get clean," she said, and he was instantly angry at her.
"I am not a weak fucking child!" he said and went to the bathroom to clean himself, 'It's just like the fucker said, she wanted to care for him like a CHILD, a pet. a talking freak'. Koga spends his time telling him bullshit in front of Sesshomaru without repercussions. His brother was not about to resolve petty fights. The latest tale that he told him, was that Kagome only went out with him out of pity, but that she, like any female, admired power and that's why Koga and she were seeing each other on the side. "She's too good mutt, I don't blame her for her charity work" he smirked "I bet you make an interesting pet". This was a deep blow, Inuyasha was insecure and knew that Kagome was too good for him, he believes the accusation at once. His ideas of what Kagome was like and what she was really like now were complete opposites.
She watched him go to the bathroom with worry, lately; it was always the same. She would make a suggestion and he would hate her for it, no matter how normal. Maybe they couldn't even be friends. She washed her hands in the kitchen and heated the homemade ramen for him while remembering all the times she cleaned his claws in the river as a child, maybe he was right, maybe it was not a proper thing to do to an adult, 'As children, I was helping him deal with life, but then again maybe he doesn't need help anymore', with that she committed to offering him help as little as possible just to be safe.
"I think someone is after you, a specific yokai who sends surveillance just for you, maybe a higher yokai." He said straight to the point as he sat down on a chair. "If the minions sent to scout you were doing nothing, it's because they would send someone else to do the harm later," he smelled the ramen and was happier, even if she probably made it for the idiot.
She pondered why someone would want to hurt her if she had been extra careful. "I have not shown my.. well, you know.. my powers to anyone, so why is this happening" she said with pain in her voice.
"your fucking boyfriend must have blabbed," he said with little thought.
"No Inuyasha, he couldn't possibly have anything to do with this," she replied, resigned to Inuyasha's nickname to Koga.
He saw her, so sure in her belief in Koga that he lost it. "you may think that if you're fucking him, he would not share your dirty secret, but it's clear to me he betrayed you because I FUCKING DIDN'T" he screamed his stupid thoughts. He could tell from her smell that she was as pure as ever, but still, he went ahead and screamed bullshit at her.
Kagome was shocked, the power of his anger still in the room. 'He can tell if I have been with Koga, right? Or maybe I smell so much like him he can't even tell the difference' she cried, and as he visibly stiffened from her tears as she spoke "I am not with him, and I know Koga is innocent because I have not confided in him, he doesn't know that I have miko powers. He saved a human from Naraku, as far as he knows. Also, I have not been with anyone, ever. I was waiting to find you" she said with a blush on her face, he was as still as a statue and she continued "but when I found you, you didn't want me, you just wanted me to not be with anyone. God, I'm the stupid little girl that is still waiting for you!. Well, I've had enough, I can't be near you anymore, you make me feel as if my heart is this heavyweight that puts me down and drags me deeply. I don't want to talk to you Inuyasha, it's over. Get out of my house and stop lurking on my rooftop, get out of my life" she lifted her hand and gesture to the door. It took a while, but she heard him leave and turned to see the ramen on the table almost untouched, 'I couldn't even thank him properly,' and with that, she sobbed.
It was over before it began. She wanted him, and he was a fucking disgrace. The words she spoke would torment him forever. He knew she was done, 'Kagome never spoke like that to anyone… to me'. He fucked up and there wasn't a way back. Inuyasha was in his place in an hour, luckily no one was in his path for his sorrow would raise questions, he went to bed and wept, like a child for the felt immature and weak, he didn't let himself imagine a future with her because now there was none, he wanted to kill his love for her, his filthy unworthy love...
Koga found her on the floor of her house with a visibly distraught kid at her feet crying. He carried her to her room and order Ginta to lock Sota in his room and look after him. Hakkaku was watching the door for signs of the mutt. The mother-fucking bastard was also an idiot. He fell on the multiple traps he set up. But the victory was near, he mustn't be distracted. It was time to take action. He put her on the bed and kissed her.
She tasted salty, and the kiss wasn't good but when she wanted to reject him he whispered "Sota saw you crumbling, let's show him a good example, a good relationship, you have known me for years, I am solid, I have power, respect, and loyal followers, it's time to be stable, and happy together."
She was confused, feeling whiplash from her fight with Inuyasha to the tender touch of Koga. She wanted to be a dutiful sister, to give his brother a stable, loving home, but this was too soon after Inuyasha. Koga read her eyes and manipulated her "we´ll go slow, showing your brother a firm hand a prosperous home, but as a couple, we´ll go slow, I can just kiss you for years without going further I don't care, I will comfort you, you need me, come on babe, let go of the drama". He extended his arms to her.
He was right, if they started their relationship right away she would have someone to hold her while she cried, to help her raise Sota. She disappointed herself when he found her destroyed, crying on the floor. She didn't want to distress him, Inuyasha was drama and Koga was comfort, always saving her. She could give him a little something in return. He was handsome and all. He would help her. She had to get over Inuyasha, to extract him from her heart. They were not meant to be, Koga and she were brand new, a new beginning, a new opportunity.
She kissed him back.
When he woke up, his mind was made up. He didn't blame her; he was in the wrong and he knew it. He was walking down the stairs toward the common areas of the compound when Koga punched his face.
"You hurt her filthy mutt," Koga said before kicking him a few meters into the courts. "I went there, and she was a mess, she didn't say, but obviously it was you, you fucking dog". Inuyasha didn't defend himself as Koga took his revenge, punching him repeatedly, getting out his own frustration until they were separated. They took Inuyasha to the infirmary in the castle complex. The last thing Koga said was "she is mine now so fuck off".
"What's wrong with you man, you didn't fight back! I know you could kill him with Tessaiga in a flash what happened?" said Miroku when he visited the hospital, but Inuyasha was impassive. Sango took care of the business in his absence when Inuyasha came back. He didn't want anything to do with the Clan. His job was a nuisance to him now, he felt useless. A half-breed unable to keep Kikyo, unable to keep Kagome. Times were going to get dark.
