A/N: Most of the characters and the main plot belongs to J.K Rowling.
It was now Halloween and Harry wasn't in a good mood. Today was the tenth anniversary of his parents death. It hadn't even been a year since he had learned the real manner of their deaths. He was currently in Herbology with the same group he had at the start of the month. They had started a new project but Professor Sprout seemed to think that she had made good groups. Daphne and Tracey seemed confused about Harry's behaviour because he generally spoke and they had a good laugh although Daphne kept it quiet. She had noticed Harry looking at her quite a bit and it annoyed her. But today however, he just wasn't entirely with it, it hadn't looked at her once except to say 'Hello' at the beginning of the lesson. She found that when he wasn't looking at her from time to time, she missed it, she supposed it was because it made her feel pretty. They were trying to tame a vicious plant for some reason, apparently it had some ingredients that were useful in potions. She wasn't exactly a prodigy in potions but she was probably one of the best in her year. She and Tracey would usually stick together. They didn't have the same views as most of the Slytherins, blood status wasn't something that bothered them, well it didn't bother her at least, Tracey was a half-blood herself so it couldn't really affect her. The two of them had been best friends since they were young. Daphne's parents were never Death Eaters but they never fought against them either, they remained neutral throughout the last war just like Tracey's but Tracey's family had supported the light side towards the end because they had noticed that the dark side were on the way to winning the war.
That was when it clocked to Daphne, Potter was acting all weird because this was the anniversary of the war sure but to him it meant the death of his parents. She didn't ask him if he was alright, she had a reputation to uphold after all hut even her, the Ice Queen, had felt sympathy for the boy beside her.
Professor Sprout had just announced the end of the lesson and Harry had already bolted out of the door. Everyone seemed to notice this, Granger had even tried catching up to him but he was gone. Daphne decided it wasn't any of her business and made her way to her next lesson, Charms.
Hermione was still looking for Harry but realised he had probably headed to DADA so she made her way over there. When she got there, Harry wasn't there but she had already guessed why Harry was in this mood, after all he had never been like this before, he looked a bit sad yesterday and less interested in things which is when Hermione caught on to the fact. She hoped that he would be okay and that he would at least join her and the rest of the Ravenclaws at lunch. As she walked into the DADA classroom, she noticed that Professor Quirell seemed to be in a mood too but him it was anger that was showing. However his face was still a bit uninterested and somewhere else, it was in his voice that you could tell he was annoyed. She found it a bit odd for this teacher of all people but then again, if the class he had before was annoying then it could be the reason for his bad mood she supposed.
Harry was at the top of the Astronomy tower looking down onto the Hogwarts ground with sadness written all over his face but nobody was around so it was only for that reason that he allowed his emotions to show as much. He had tried creating a mask a bit like the Ice Queen's for the last month or so. But right now, he allowed a few tears to run down his cheeks. He assumed that would be what most people would do in his situation. He knew that he was missing DADA but he didn't really care, he didn't think that he would be able to just sit in that classroom listening to the man talk about odds and ends that didn't really make much sense sometimes. He was up there for quite a while, he didn't know how long but it was probably lunchtime at that point. He heard footsteps against the steps of the staircase and wiped his tears and tried to apply the best emotionless mask possible. He didn't mind showing happiness but weakness, that was one thing he didn't like showing, He was the Boy-Who-Lived after all, he wasn't meant to be weak.
It was Dumbledore that walked in behind him, he looked at Harry with some understanding but didn't say anything. He silently conjured a comfortable looking chair with a red cushion and then sat down. He conjured another and motioned for Harry to sit down on it. Harry got up and gladly sat down on it, he had to admit that the floor wasn't exactly the most comfortable place in the castle.
They continued staring down at the grounds and the mountains in the distance behind the Black Lake for five minutes in silence. Harry was actually glad Dumbledore was there, it showed him that the man supported him and that he understood the pain, which in return earned the old man some respect from Harry.
"You know Harry, your parents would be proud of what you've accomplished, even if it's only your first year and you've only done two months, you've accomplished quite a lot for someone your age" Dumbledore said calmly using his grand fatherly tone.
Harry didn't even nod, he just stayed there in silent contemplation. How could they be proud of him, they had died for him and he didn't even know how he had survived that night, probably thanks to his parents again.
"This is a pain that you will live with all your life Harry, believe me I know, but it does get better, eventually, you have to talk to people you trust about it, it's not by keeping it quiet that it will heal. Now I know we don't exactly know each other therefore you probably don't trust me but if you ever feel the need to talk about it, or even your parents I will help with anything I can. I've already wronged you with the power block, I want to be able to fix that." He sent a small smile at Harry and got up. He called for one of the house elves and asked him to bring some food for Harry. The elf was happy to be of assistance and came back a minute later with enough food to feed an army, and gave it to Harry.
Harry hadn't even noticed the little creature. He just turned to the left a bit as Dumbledore left a little while after the food appeared with a small smile. Harry didn't eat much but he didn't really have much of an appetite at that point.
It was now nearly dinner time and Hermione had decided to go looking for Harry, she knew that it must be painful but she was still worried for her friend, one of her best friends. She was wondering around the castle looking for him, she had even been into the boys toilets and ask if Harry was there. Of course there wasn't an answer because everyone was making their way to the Great Hall to eat. She continued her search but it turned out to be fruitless but she didn't give up, she continued searching.
Harry arrived at dinner in the Great Hall and all the Ravenclaw first years looked at him sympathetically. He guessed they must have worked out the reason for his mood. He was looking for Harry when Neville came up towards him.
"Hey Harry, I see Hermione found you then" he looked around and a confused expression appeared on both of their faces but both for different reasons
"What do you mean Hermione found me ? I came here by myself, I thought she'd be here"
"Oh well we had better go find her as she's gone looking for you. The two of them started walking towards the door when it crashed open and a frightened looking Professor Quirell came running in.
"Troll- Tr-Troll in the dungeons, troll in the dungeons !" The Hall was pin drop quiet. "Thought you ought to know" he finished before fainting. About 2 seconds later screams and frightened shouts were heard all over many of the students making their way to the door but they were all stopped by one voice. "Siiiiileeeeeence !!" Dumbledore shouted. The students all seemed to be rooted to the spot they were now on. "Now," he continued calmly "prefects, you will escort the rest of the students to their dormitories immediately, teachers with me to the dungeons"
Everyone started moving but Harry had made observations in the past month and he knew for a fact that the Slytherin common rooms were in the dungeons. He didn't particularly like a lot of them but he liked Tracey and Daphne even though they probably only saw him as a classmate, but Harry felt obliged to say something. "But sir" he shouted over all the noise and all the students were listening again in silence "the Slytherin common rooms are IN the dungeons and that's where the troll is" Some of the Slytherins seemed thankful for his actions some even breathing a sigh of relief as if they had thought about it too but too shy to say anything but others looked at Harry as if asking 'How the fuck do you know where our common room is ?'
Dumbledore didn't seem to have thought of that and gave Harry a small nod in thanks. "Right you are Harry, you will all remain in here and we will deal with the troll, make way please" he finished as he and the rest of the teachers began making their way towards the door. As Dumbledore passed Harry, Harry told him about Hermione nit being here and he sent Professor McGonagall zand Flitwick to go find her. After all the teachers were out except for Quirell who was still in the Great Hall on the floor people just started talking again while some like Ron, Crabbe and Goyle started eating again as if nothing had happened. Quirell eventually woke up again and had a sour look on his face as he looked at Harry and made his way out to help the other teachers but it was useless as Mcgonagall and Flitwick were just walking through the door as he reached it. Hermione walked over to Harry and the three teachers made their way back out to help the others. Quirell didn't seem happy about their presence but went along with it.
A little while after, the teachers walked back in and the students went back to their dormitories. It had been a long day for Harry, definitely not one of the best days of his life but then again, it probably wasn't one of his worst. There was a lot of talking about how a troll could have gotten in, some people were theorizing that trolls had found a way to apparate and on top of that, they had also managed to get past the Hogwarts wards which is practically impossible, they would have to figure out how runes worked, how to deactivate them and even then why would they ?
Hermione went over the things they had learned all day because Harry had asked her to, he had admitted that he hadn't been very focused and she seemed to understand. They then decided that they were going to bed, Harry hoped he would sleep more because he hadn't gotten much sleep the last night given the circumstances.
A/N: Thank you for your reviews yet again, I've gotten a lot of good feedback on the story and I hope I can keep the story going in the way you want but I will still follow the main plot which is currently in my mind.
Replies:
If I do wait a bit for Harry to come clean about his Lordship and all that, you will also have to wait for Malfoy's reaction, I was planning on doing it in the next chapter but my brain didn't seem to comprehend the fact that if Draco knew, the fact would eventually reach Dumbledore's ears so, that will have to wait a bit more.
