Odalia looked over Amity's hand. She was completely stunned.

"Four strings? T-t-this has never happened before." She said.

Amity pulled her hand from her mother's grip. Odalia noticed that and sat back down.

"Who are they?" She asked.

Amity looked down. She doesn't know what her mom will do when she finds out that she's meant to be with Willow and a Human.

"T-t-they... they are..."

"Amity, you are a Blight, which means you don't stutter or stammer. You speak clearly and cleanly." Odalia said, "Now, take a breath, and take a minute to compose yourself."

Amity started to breathe through her nose and out of her mouth. After a minute, she looked at her mom and, to less extent, her father, who hasn't looked up from his paper, but made it clear that he was listening.

"My... my Soulmates are Boscha-"

"I see that the Soul Strings are clearly intelligent." Odalia said, "Continue."

"S-S-Skara-"

"Another good one."

"W-W-W... Willow."

Her mother stayed silent for that one. Amity looked at the floor.

"A-a-and, finally... Luz."

Amity starred at the floor for a minute, not looking up until her mother spoke.

"So, they are your Soulmates?" Odalia asked, "Well, I can only think of one thing to do."

Amity closed her eyes, accepting the fact that her mother is going to cut her strings. She felt her mom's hand land on her shoulder.

"You will need to bring them over at some point so they can be taught how to act in public." Odalia said.

"W-what?"

"We have a reputation, we can't allow them to act out at parties and events, unless you want them to make a fool of this family." Odalia said, sitting back down.

"S-s-so... you're not going to cut my strings?" Amity asked.

"Cut your- Amity, we are aware that you don't find us to be the best parents in the Demon Realm, but we would never mess with a Soul String."

Alador folded the paper and looked at his youngest.

"Amity, a Soul String is a mysterious item, almost as old as the Isles themselves. No one knows where it came from, but everyone knows how dangerous it would be to cut the string." He said.

"It's called a Soul String, because it combines a piece of your soul to the being on the other end. Cutting it down the middle can cause physical and mental damage and, in some cases, death, to both people, if the string is not reattached. Cutting it straight from a finger will cause almost immediate death to the person it was cut from and cause life long physical and mental pain for the other person." Odalia said.

"I've never been taught this in school. Where did you learn this?" Amity asked.

Odalia looked at the string leading from her finger to Alador's. The difference about theirs is, unlike others, theirs has a knot in the middle.

"There's a reason you've never met your grandmother." Odalia said.

"What if the person dies from natural causes?" Amity asked.

"Oh, that isn't nearly as serious, but the living person will never find love again." Odalia said, "I knew two people that lost their Soulmates on the very same day."

"Who?"

"The Clawthorne Sisters." Alador said, "It was a noble act. Their Soulmates save them, but they died in the process."

"What happened?"

"A monster managed to escape a holding and... many people were injured that day, but thanks to them, many witches survived."

Amity wanted to ask more questions, but her scroll went off. It was a text.

"It's Luz. She says something happened."

"You better go, then. We'll finish this conversation later." Odalia said.

Amity put her scroll away and ran out the door.
