Chapter 7: Darkness Rising Part 5
Autobot Base - The Next Day
Everyone, except for Jack and Arcee, were still in the base, getting ready for the fight of their lives.
"We cannot allow Megatron to send Dark Energon through his Space Bridge. If we fail, the dead of Cybertron will rise… Swarm through its vortex… and invade Earth. Bending humankind to Megatron's twisted rule." Optimus said to his team.
"Then, let's stop Megatron... Here and now." Blue Jacket said.
Everyone was getting prepared, while the human kids were stuck close to their Autobot guardians. Leo Fowler looked at his dad before looking at Blue Jacket.
"You think you and your friends can stop Megatron?" Leo asked fearfully for his old and new friends.
"I think so." Blue said. "What I learned from Optimus, we don't back down from a fight."
The 15 year old boy nodded at his guardian. "You and your friends remind me of my dad." He said. "He never backs down from anything."
The blue autobot smiled at his human companion.
A few moments later, the field medic located the space bridge that was above the Earth's atmosphere, "Optimus, I've pin-pointed the location of Megatron's space bridge, high in Earth's orbit."
"Out of our reach." Optimus said.
"I thought that all Autobots can fly, just like the Decepticons." Leo exclaimed, a little confused.
"Well, not all autobots have flying vehicle modes." Blue said to his human friend. "Only the Aerialbots."
"The Aerialbots?" Raf asked.
"They were Starscream's old pals back on Cybertron. He betrayed them for Megatron." Blue explained to the pre-teen who nodded in understanding.
"Okay, so you guys don't fly," Miko said "But couldn't you just Ground-Bridge there?"
"The ground-bridge has limited range," Ratchet explained, "Stretched all the way into Orbit, it's vortex could snap and scatter us to the stars."
"Since Megatron is likely already in transit, I'm afraid we must take that risk," Optimus said, looking at the ground bridge. "Reaching the space bridge first is our only means of stopping him."
They heard noises coming from the tunnel and saw Arcee and Jack. "Hey, guess who's back!" Jack said, happy to be see his friends.
"Jack! You're back!" Leo exclaimed. He and the others were happy to see him.
"Autobots, prepare for departure." Optimus said.
"Where to?" Arcee asked as she transformed.
"The final Frontier." Miko said.
"Space?" Jack asked with a surprised face. "I thought they didn't have any way to get there."
Bumblebee grabbed Raf from his shoulder and put him on the floor. "They don't." Raf confirmed "Really."
"So..." Jack looked at the Two-wheeler. "Be seeing you?" Arcee nodded and smiled at her human friend and headed to the ground bridge.
"Be careful, bee," he said and Bumblebee buzzed a reply.
"I'm so jealous!" Miko told her guardian.
"Don't even think about following me," Bulkhead told her.
"Good luck, Blue Jacket." Leo said to his partner.
"Thanks, I'm going to need it" Blue said.
Ratchet turned to Optimus, "Optimus, if you leave me on a planet stranded teeming with humans, I will never forgive you." he told him.
"Until we meet again, old friend," Optimus told him before activating his battle mask, "Autobots, roll out." After he said that, every single Autobot, excluding Ratchet, transformed into their alternate mode and drove through the portal. "Maximum Overdrive," he said as they neared the Ground Bridge's destination.
Earth's Orbit/Outer Space
Above the Earth's atmosphere, the Ground Bridge opened and the Autobots drove out of it. "Autobots, transform and Gravitate!" Optimus said as they approached the Space bridge.
The Autobots transformed and locked their feet onto the space bridge. Bulkhead had trouble balancing himself as he locked his feet onto the space bridge. "Don't look down," he said "Or up. Or left."
"Or right." Blue Jacket said, also trying to balance himself.
They then heard the Nemesis approach the space bridge and them. "So Megatron's packing enough Dark Energon to raise Cybertron's dead?" Arcee asked.
"Looks like it, Arcee. "The former Delta Team scout said, answering her question.
"And since we don't possess ready means of disabling the space bridge…" Optimus said, activating his blasters, "Nothing gets in or out." The other Autobots did the same.
However, after a few minutes, Blue Jacket noticed that the Decepticons aren't attacking them.
"Um, Optimus... Megatron isn't doing anything." Blue said, who was confused.
The two-wheeler noticed this as well. "Well, what are they waiting for?" Arcee asked.
Optimus then zoomed onto the ship with one of his optics and noticed that one of the Nemesis's machines had been damaged. "It appears the Decepticons have sustained serious damage to their interstellar navigational system."
Blue smirked, looking at the green autobot. "Wow, I wonder who did that."
"Hey, that's my handiwork," Bulkhead said.
"Great job, Bulkhead." Optimus said, complimenting him. "Without the dish, Megatron will be unable to aim the space bridge at Cybertron."
"Good thinking, Bulk." Blue said, giving him a fist-bump.
Autobot Base
Ratchet and the humans heard the conversation through the supercomputer, "Don't the Decepticons know where their own planet is?" Raf asked.
"Naturally," Ratchet said, "But cybertron is many light years away. To reach their target their aim must be astronomically precise."
"If Megatron went to the trouble of rendezvousing with his space bridge, he must have an alternate targeting system, a remote one," Optimus said from the supercomputer.
Ratchet scoffs at this, "From what I know of Earth's technology, I doubt there exists a single radio-telescope dish on this planet powerful enough to pinpoint Cybertron."
"What about a whole bunch of linked radio-telescope dishes," Raf asked, typing on the supercomputer before turning around, "Like the giant-size array in Texas?"
Leo looked at what Raf was talking about and smiled, knowing what they are. "My dad told me about those." He said. "That's a great idea!"
Ratchet, however, was in disbelief of what Raf and Leo said and turned to them, "Yip-yip-yip! This is not child's play!"
"Good thinking, Raf and Leo." Optimus said. "Ratchet, Have Agent Fowler alert the array staff to the security hazard."
They turned around and saw Fowler sit up a bit still dazed from his encounter with Starscream, "You, soldier!" He said pointing at Ratchet, "You're out of uniform! Put on some pants." He said before falling back asleep. Leo tried to hold his laughter.
"That may be a challenge," Ratchet told the Prime.
Leo was laughing while Raf typing on the computer again, "I can't get past the array's firewalls. They're too thick."
"You actually think you could keep the Decepticons out?" Ratchet asked him.
"Maybe." Raf replied, "If I could get in."
Jack then walked towards him "Uh, wait, wait, wait. Raf what if we could get you all the way in, like inside-the-building in?"
"I could walk into their internal network on the other side of the firewall," Raf answered.
"The risk is too great." Optimus said. "The Decepticons will be there, perhaps even on site."
Jack then think for a few minutes before speaking to Prime.
"Optimus, with all due respect, you said it yourself. This is bigger than the safety of four humans." Jack said.
"Yeah." Miko said. "If we let the 'Cons win, we're fragged, along with everyone else on our planet."
That's when Blue Jacket tried to convince them not to do this, knowing that it's too dangerous for them. "Guys, look, you four were almost killed back when we first met and when we were on the Decepticons' Warship. He said through the com-link. "Stay with Ratchet. This is our battle."
"No, it isn't, Blue Jacket." Leo said, surprising both his human and autobot allies. "Miko and Jack are right, Optimus." Leo started to say, "If the Autobots lose, that'll be the end of the earth... This is our battle too.
Optimus thought for a moment. "Leo, are certain that you're ready to take the risk?" Optimus asked. The brown fifteen year old boy with black hair thought for a moment before answering Prime's question.
"My dad risked his life to save me back on that ship and you and your friends are risking your lives for our planet. I'd do the same for him and for you guys." Leo said.
Optimus then gotten Raf's attention. "Raf?"
"I want to give it a shot." The young boy said.
Leo grabbed his backpack and looked at the field medic. "Open the Ground-Bridge." He said, until he backed away when Ratchet gave him 'the look'. "Umm, please?"
The medic nodded and turned on the portal.
Some part in Texas
The Ground-Bridge portal opens up and Jack, Raf, Leo and Miko jumped out of it and landing on the ground, feeling Nausea.
"That'll take some getting used to." Jack said as he was holding his head while his friends groaned.
"This is just like...Riding a roller coaster... But with less twist and turns, and more feeling of sickness." Leo said, trying his best not to throw up.
They then noticed the large linked radio-telescopes nearby. "Let's go! We got a world to save." Leo said, as he and his friends carefully got inside the building.
The autobots on the space bridge notices the jet Vehicons heading towards them, "Here comes the welcoming committee," Bulkhead said as they began to get into battle formation.
"Then let's crash their welcoming party!" Blue said, getting pumped up.
The Vehicons started shooting at the Autobots and transformed, and the Autobots started blasting as they approached them. Vehicons then landed on the space bridge at multiple areas, next to Optimus one of them landed and he slammed him down and threw him towards another Vehicon that was in the air.
One of the Vehicons approached Bulkhead and switched from his blasters to his mace and pounded the Vehicon on the head.
Blue Jacket then shot them down with his blasters with Bumblebee. When the 'Cons got close, Blue bashed their heads together while his brother kicked their sides of their metal bodies. The two-wheeler pulled out her blades and started to slice the 'Cons into pieces.
Meanwhile inside the giant size array building, Miko opened a door to see if anyone was nearby the room they were in. No one was there, so she closed the door and approached Jack, Raf, and Leo. "Security is Lax in this place."
"Yeah," Leo said, agreeing with Miko. "This is just like the school party last year."
The four of them smiled, remembering that time. Raf then got inside the system of the building on the computer he was typing at. "I'm in," he told them, "And so are the Decepticons."
"What?" Jack asked.
"They are?" Leo exclaimed.
"How do you know?" Miko asked.
"Schematics with the same alien math we saw on their ship. But this time I can download them." He explained and took out a flash drive. He then plugged it into the computer to download the Data of the Cybertronian equation.
"It's got to be the space bridge," Miko said.
"The Decepticons are syncing it to the dishes, but I can sync to them." he explained.
"Will they know?" Jack asked.
"Yeah." Leo said, agreeing with sixteen year old boy. "Optimus did said that the Decepticons could be anywhere."
"Leo, don't worry." Miko said, assuring him by patting his back. "The 'Cons won't know that Raf's in."
"And even if the Decepticons see that I'm in the system, they'll have no idea I'm in the house." Raf said to his friends.
Leo nodded. "I hope so." The fifteen year old said to himself.
Back with Blue Jacket, he and his friends were still fighting the Vehicons on the Space Bridge when they felt a rumble as the bridge started to lock onto Cybertron.
"What just happened?" Arcee asked
"Um, I think the space bridge is activating," Blue guessed.
"The Decepticons are locking on to Cybertron," Optimus explained.
Back with the kids, Leo noticed that the Decepticons were locked onto Cybertron.
"They're locking onto Cybertron." Leo said.
"Not for long." Raf said and began typing, causing the radio dishes to look forward instead of upwards. The four kids see their progress is working.
Meanwhile back at the space bridge, the bridge lost the connection to cybertron, Bumblebee buzzed as he made a gesture with his arms upwards. "Indeed, Bumblebee." Optimus said as he punched a Vehicon. "This can only be Raf's doing."
"The more they keep doing it..." Blue started to say before kicking the con in the face. "The better!"
The kids saw that the Decepticons were undoing their work by re-locking on to Cybertron.
"The dishes are heading back towards cybertron." Raf told them, "I'll just undo that again." He began typing on the computer again.
"What happens when the 'Cons realize they're being punked?" Jack asked Raf.
"More like what will happen when they find out that they just got served by us kids?" Leo asked, trying not to laugh.
"It's only virtual combat," Raf said.
"Like VR and Online gaming?" Leo asked.
"Exactly." The pre-teen agreed.
"Yeah." Miko said. What are the 'Cons gonna do? They're probably like one thousand miles away."
However, while they were watching Raf do his thing, Leo heard some unusual sounds from behind. Once he turned around, he couldn't believe he just saw. "Watch out!" He shouted, pushing Miko out of the way of the tentacle. That's when he saw Jack jumped and grabbed onto it. "Raf, try to stall the 'Cons! We'll handle this one!" Leo said, as he and Miko got back up to help Jack.
I won't let them lock on again." Raf said, nodding.
Remembering something, Leo went to his backpack and pulled out a rope. While swinging it, he saw that both Jack and Miko were thrown to the wall by the tentacle. Before it could advance to Raf, he threw the rope at it and tried to pull it to his direction. "Get away from him!" Leo pleaded, trying his best to protect his young friend. However, the robotic tentacle was too strong for the young teenager, as Leo was thrown to the same wall that Jack and Miko were at.
"Ow..." Leo groaned, getting up along with Jack and Miko. He then saw how Raf evaded the robotic arm that destroyed the computer. "Okay, does anyone have any ideas?" He asked.
Smirking and getting an idea, Miko grabs an axe from the wall and tries to cut the tentacle with it. However, she swing it too early and gets thrown back at the wall and the tentacle picks up the axe.
You handed it an axe?!" Jack exclaimed at her.
"Oh Scrap..." Leo muttered in fear.
"Not good," Raf said, then the tentacle threatened to kill them with the axe and flew back to the room where Soundwave was and sliced the hard wire of the supercomputer as the dish locked back onto Cybertron.
Jack,Raf and Miko chased the tentacle and saw Soundwave standing above the ceiling, Miko then takes her phone out and takes a picture of him. Soundwave then took a picture of them, transformed, and flew away. "Why's he leaving?" Miko asked.
"I don't know." Leo said.
Raf noticed the Axe wedged in the hard wire, "He cut the hard wire. The dishes are locked onto Cybertron... For good." Raf explained.
Leo looked down, calling Ratchet on his phone. "Ratchet... We need a Bridge."
Once the kids returned to the Autobot Base, they, along with Ratchet and Agent Fowler (who Leo was glad to be alive and well), were looking at the supercomputer which had purple colored dots appearing around the space bridge diagram as Fowler finally woke up. They also heard from what was happening in Space through the com-links in the cybertronian computer
"So how do we beat a whole planet of the undead?" Bulkhead asked to his team through the com-link.
"I agree. We need to find a way to stop them." Blue Jacket said through the com-link.
"Optimus, I'm registering a rapidly expanding mass in their space bridge vortex, one with a peculiar energy signature." Ratchet said.
"Dark Energon." Optimus said through the com-link. "We must destroy the space bridge. There's enough live energon coursing through it to achieve detonation, but we lack the firepower to ignite it."
"If I knew how the space bridge was engineered, I might find a technical way of accomplishing that feat," Ratchet said.
"Um, would schematics help?" Raf asked, showing Ratchet his flash drive.
"Optimus, I must say, the space bridge is our sole hope of ever returning to Cybertron. Are you certain it's destruction is the only option?" Ratchet asked the Prime.
Optimus thought for a moment. Their home planet was already destroyed, due to Megatron's quest for power and even if he wanted to return home, he wouldn't want to stay in a dead planet. Knowing what he must do, he made his choice.
"I'm afraid so." Optimus answered.
"Then by all means..." The medic said. "Let us light up our darkest hour."
"Autobots, take your positions and follow Ratchet's lead…" Optimus told the Autobots who got out of the area, "While I make my stand." he added as he saw Megatron who was flying towards his direction.
Blue Jacket, Arcee, Bulkhead, and Bumblebee ran as fast as they could, while the scouts looked back, seeing Optimus and Megatron fighting to the death.
"You think Optimus could beat Megatron?" Blue asked his brother.
"Optimus would never let Megatron have his way." Bumblebee told his brother.
"We're here." The two-wheeler told them. They saw that they were beneath the Space Bridge. They then started following Ratchet's lead, with Blue Jacket, Bumblebee and Bulkhead guarding Arcee. "Now follow the line from the flow regulator to the energon pump." The medic said through the com-link. "There should be a valve."
"I see it." Arcee said as she presses a button on a panel nearby and the valve opens upward.
"Good." Ratchet said."Now turn all that power against itself, all you need do is reverse the current." Arcee began to pull the current clockwise and it began to crackle with electricity.
Arcee then reverses the current. "Current reversed." they suddenly heard Arcee say.
"Yes!" Fowler said with joy before turning to Raf and Leo. "Right?"
"Yeah." Leo said, smiling at his dad.
"I'll ready the Ground Bridge." Ratchet said.
Blue Jacket then looked up, seeing the warlord coming their way. "Ratchet, you might want to speed it up! Megatron's coming!" Blue Jacket said.
"We just need to hold him off!" Bulk said, loading his blasters, along with Arcee and Bumblebee.
"Got it!" Blue said, loading his blasters as well.
They then started shooting at the warlord, who was flying and shooting back towards them. He may had miss Bee, Blue, and Bulk, but he shot the two-wheeler, who went floating towards space after she was shot.
"Arcee!" Blue yelled, shocked to see that his partner was shot by the decepticon leader. He then saw Optimus running towards them before turning around again and saw the ground-bridge portal.
"Autobots, jump." The Prime said before jumping into the Ground Bridge portal, underneath the space bridge. Blue Jacket jumped through as well, followed by Bulkhead and then finally Bumblebee grabbed the floating Arcee before heading towards the Ground Bridge which soon vanished after all autobots entered the portal.
Back with the kids, the agent, and the field medic, they were getting worried for their friends.
"Are they okay?" Leo asked, worried for his guardian and the others.
"Do you think...?" Raf started to say.
Ratchet checked out his wrist, which showed him six autobot signals and life-force. "Six life signals... One very faint."
Optimus then came through first, which gave everyone a relief look on their faces, as they thought he was about to die due to him battling Megatron. The next who came was Blue Jacket.
"Blue Jacket!" Leo exclaimed, running towards his guardian. "You okay?" He asked, seeing Blue's sad look on his face.
"A-Arcee..." Blue was about to say, until he saw Bulkhead coming out, which Miko was happy about. Then, he saw his brother carrying the two-wheeler. Jack saw this as well and walked towards her.
"Wow..." Leo said, worried for Arcee.
"We lost one this week." Ratchet said, recalling the death of Cliffjumper. "By the Allspark, don't let it be two."
Jack places his hand into Arcee's hand when she suddenly opened her eyes telling them that she was still online. "Arcee...," he said.
"Jack really," she said, seeing how he is reacting, thing that she just went offline, "there are other motorcycles in the world."
"I know..." he said, "but you're my first."
"And Megatron?" Ratchet asked the Prime.
"Not even he could have survived ground zero," he replied.
"Prime!" The suddenly heard Fowler sat and saw him going into the elevator, "I didn't get to thank you 'bots for the save. I owe you one." He walked into the elevator, "We all do..." The elevator closes as Fowler leaves.
Bumblebee puts Arcee down and Miko approaches Optimus."So, is this the part where you say goodbye and tell us we forget we ever saw you?" Miko asked the Prime, who looked down at the children with a thoughtful look.
Five Days Later
Jack, Raf, Leo, and Miko were walking out of Jasper High, backpacks slung over their shoulders. They look at the parking lot and smile when they see Bumblebee, Bulkhead, Blue Jacket, and Arcee waiting for them.
"I just got a B- on my test, Blue." Leo said, as he got on his partner's vehicle mode.
"That's great!" Blue Jacket said, happy for Leo getting a good grade. Before he could leave, someone called out Leo's name.
"Hey, Leo!" Melissa yelled, trying to get her friend's attention.
"Yes?" Leo asked.
"You want to go to the party today?" Melissa asked, winking at him.
Leo blushed. "I'd love to, but I have to do things with my dad. I'll see you later." He said, 'driving' away from the school area.
"What about you guys?" Melissa asked the three.
"Sure." Raf said, smiling. "I just need to ask my mom.
"You know I'm in, Big M." Miko said, smirking.
"Yeah." Jack said.
"It starts at 7:00. See you guys there." Melissa said, driving away. The three kids smile each other before getting inside their respected vehicle guardians.
Back with Leo and Blue Jacket
"A party?" That sounds cool. You could hang out with your girlfriend." Blue teased, while driving towards Leo's home.
"Melissa isn't my girlfriend..." Leo said, getting annoyed a bit.
"I know." Blue admitted. "Besides, you like someone else, right?"
"You could say that." Leo said, smiling and thinking about Miko.
"Who's the lucky girl?"
Leo put on his headphones and put up the music. "That's for me to know, and you to find out."
"Alright." Blue Jacket smirked.
Later that day - Fowler's House
Leo was in his room, making up his bed and looking at his completed test. He was proud that he got a good grade on his test, and was confident to get a better grade on the science fair that will happen in two days. He actually did wanted to go to the party, but he also wanted to do a few things. While he was cleaning, he heard a knock on the door.
"Come in." Leo said, seeing that it was his dad that opened his door. "Oh, hey dad."
"Hey, Leo." His dad said, coming inside of his son's room. "You did great in the field."
"Thanks, dad. Although, you were right. It can be dangerous."
"Maybe, but you took guts. I saw that when we were captured by the 'Cons."
"Speaking of the 'Cons, what happen to them?" Leo asked.
Fowler thought of the right words.
"Megatron may be gone... But the 'Cons are still out there..."
"Don't worry. The Autobots can handle them."
"I know, son." Fowler said, about to leave before turning back towards his son. "You can go to the party, by the way. Jack called about him, Miko, and Raf are at the party."
Leo smiled. "Thanks, dad." Leo said, hugging his father and walking out.
"I'll take you there." Fowler said.
"Thanks, dad... But, I'll think I'll call Vince to take me." Leo said, leaving the house, smiling.
In the Garage
Blue Jacket was waiting for Agent Fowler in his robot form, while kneeling down so he won't damage the house. That's when Fowler opened the door and saw the blue autobot.
"Hello, kid." Fowler said.
"Hey, Agent Fowler." He said before looking around. "Where's Leo?"
"He's with his friends... Anyway, I wanted to thank you for saving my son the second time."
"Of course, Agent Fowler. You let my friends stay on Earth it's the least I can do."
Fowler smiled, but didn't show it. "Hey, can you do me a favor?"
"Sure. What is it?"
"I might not always be around for my son, so I need you to step up, soldier. Keep an eye on him."
Blue Jacket nodded. "I will, sir."
The agent nodded before leaving. The blue autobot smiled, happy of the turn of events.
And this is the last chapter of Darkness Rising! I'm glad to finish with this chapter. Sorry for the wait, I did a lot of things outside of Fanfiction. The next is Masters and Students. I'm deciding whether Blue should stay with Leo and help him with his science project (which you guys will check out in the next chapter), or if he should go with Bumblebee and Optimus and face-off against Skyquake. Either way, I'm happy that you guys enjoyed reading this chapter.
