The Last Witch Hunter
Rise of the Dream Walker King
Chapter Seven
The sun remained hidden behind the dark gray clouds as Rem, Lem, Evelyn and Dolan entered thru the gates of the Phoenix Society.
Dolan looked outside the car window at the dead yellow grass filled with scorched marks. His eyes then went to the ash mounds where trees used to be. Sharking his head, his heart ached when they passed the countless abandoned buildings along with glass among the debris that lined the path.
The car came to a stop at a reddish orange building with the symbol of the phoenix on the door. A hissing sound interrupted the silence. Dolan looked back in the back to see Lem cradling a pale Rem head in her lap. Looking at the rearview mirror, Evelyn held back her tears as she looked at the sight.
Taking a deep breath, Evelyn turned off the car and unlocked all the doors. Taking a deep breath, she opened the driver's side door and glanced back at her two pupils.
"Can you get her to your room?" Evelyn asked.
"Yes," Lem said.
Opening the passenger side door, Dolan jumped out and opened the door behind him. With his help, Lem eased Rem out of the back seat. Leaning Rem on Lem, she nodded thanks to Dolan and headed toward the front door.
Evelyn held her hand up with a light blow as the main door opened. Looking down at the ground, she kicked it with her foot as she kept her head down. Dolan laid a hand on her shoulder.
"Evelyn," Dole tried to say.
"No, it's okay," Evelyne said, whipping away her tears.
Standing up and shutting the door behind her, Evelyn took a hold of Dolan's hand and walked through that main door.
Walking down the hall filled with scorched marks on the walls along with a few pictures lay shattered on the side of the wall as dust lines the floor along with a lingering burning smell that permeates the air.
Evelyn and Dolan came to a stop at Rem and Lem's room, letting go of Dolans hand she walked in and while Dolan remained outside by the door frame.
Laying in bed breathing hard and sweating profusely, tears streamed down Rems cheeks. Lem placed a small cloth on Rem's head. She raised her hand and kept whispering as a sea blue light emulated from her fingers. The towel would grow soaked, but it wouldn't last long, so she kept trying. Evelyn laid a hand on Lem's shoulder and squeezed it gentle. Lem stopped and looked up at her elder.
"I can't cool her down," Lem said.
"It's okay, I know how to fix it," Evelyn said.
Lem stood up as Evelyn sat down and gently took a hold of Rem's hand. Pushing pass, the searing pain tingling across her body, Rem opened her eyes, looking right back at Evelyn.
"I'm… sorry," Rem uttered.
"Shh, don't worry, just rest," Evelyn said, gently touching rem's cheek.
Taking the towel off of Rem's Forehead Evelyn's eyes glowed as her fiery aura formed around her body. After a few moments it went down her arms, down to her hands. Evelyn then took a hold of Rem's hands.
"You're not meant to fall here, I won't allow it, so rest and let me take care of it," Evelyn said before leaning over and kissing Rem on the forehead.
Lem's eyes widen as a dark aura steadily flowed from Rem into Evelyn. Once it left Rem, Evelyn let go of Rem's hands and rose to her feet. Lem remained still as she watched Evelyn fire aura swirled around the dark aura as if they were in a heated battle.
Stumbling at first, Evelyn caught herself and took a deep breath. She turned to Lem, who bowed.
"Notify me the moment she wakes up," Evelyn said.
"Understood," Lem said.
Nodding, Evelyn walked to the door. Dolan extended out his hand, which Evelyn gladly placed with her hand in his, and the two continued down the hall.
Walking into the sitting room where a large red couch awaited them, Evelyn tripped, but Dolan caught her. He guided her over to the couch, where she sat down. Dolan made his way over to the end table and pulled out two glasses and then a bottle of wine from the chill rack. Setting them down on the table, he popped the cork and poured some wine in both glasses. Setting down the bottle, he picked up the glasses, handling one to Evelyn before sitting down on the couch beside her.
Clicking the glasses, the two took a sip. Dolan couldn't help but notice Evelyn's pale complexion and increased breathing. Yet as she looked at him, a smile spread across her lips and he couldn't help but smile as well.
"It's been a while since I've had a glass of wine with you," Evelyn said, wincing as she gripped her glass tighter.
Dolan's eyes flashed with concern, but Evelyn merely shook her head as she took another sip from her glass.
"So, you know what's going on then?" Dolan asked.
"Yes, but let's wait until Chole and the witch hunter arrive because I don't think I can explain it twice." Evelyn said.
"Okay, so what do we do until then?"
"We enjoy what time we have left together."
Pouring more wine in their glasses, Dolan and Evelyn took another sip from their glasses, holding hands and staring out at the cloud ridden sky.
"I wonder how you are doing up there," Evelyn mumbled to her self
High in the sky within the clouds, the coven of Eagle's Eye lays. Multiple buildings from homes, business stores down to the paved streets made of cloud bricks. But the prized placed of all was the tall light triangle shape building made with light blue crystal that reached out higher than the rest know as Eagle tower. Where the elder of the Air coven lives. Guards in light blue armor circled around the build always keep a lookout.
Inside the Eagle tower within her chamber, sitting at her desk, Amaya sighed as she closed her laptop. Yawning, the tawny beige skin elder glanced over at the picture of her, Evelyn, Victor, and Isole. Amaya smiled. She wished she could see them again, but as she looked out the window at the dark clouds, an ominous feeling crept across her bones. With reports of foods supplies running low around the world, she worried if everything was okay at Gaia Tree.
Spinning around in her chair, Amaya stood up and walked into her bedroom, and sat down in front of her dresser mirror. Holding up her hand alight blue aura emulated from her it, after taking a deep breath she tapped on the mirror and the symbol of the phoenix appeared.
Back in the sitting room at the Phoenix Society, a loud buzzing noise filled the air. Dolan and Evelyn turned to the door and noticed the symbol of Eagle on the long mirror.
"Someone call you?" Dolan asked, looking at the mirror.
"Amaya," Evelyn said.
"From Eagle Eye I haven't seen her in a while, but I have the feeling this isn't a social call."
Dolan stood up as he moved to where the mirror was and rolled it over until it was in front of Evelyn. He turned around to leave, wanting to give Evelyn some privacy, but Evelyn tugged on his shirt.
"Stay, it's okay," Evelyn said.
Nodding, Dolan sat back down on the couch. Evelyn raised her hand and tapped on the mirror. After a moment, Amaya appeared.
"Hey long time no see," Evelyn said, putting her glass down.
From her friend's pale complexion and shaking hands, Amaya's eyes narrowed, for she could see the dark aura that swirled around her friend's fiery aura. This was hard for Amaya to see, but to top it off, the witch hunter's friend was there. This only raised more questions that she was afraid to get the answers to.
"You look like crap and you're with the witch hunter's friend, no less. So, what's going on?" Amaya asked.
"The dark skies, the disappearances and rotten vegetation, you and I both know what this means," Evelyn said.
Sitting there, Amaya titled her head as she put together what her friend said. Soon her hands were shaking as she gasped when it hit her.
"No…." Amaya uttered.
"I am afraid so, it's happening in our time," Evelyn said.
Swallowing the hard lump in her throat, Amaya looked away. When she did, there was a knock at the door.
"Enter," Amaya said.
A man with short brown hair wearing a light blue robe with armor underneath entered the room.
"Asher report," Amaya said.
"The scout has returned and confirmed Gaia Tree has fallen," Asher said.
"Where's the scout now?"
"Getting treated at the med unit, but we have lost contact with them."
Closing her eyes, Amaya pushed back the tears as she cleared her throat and opened her eyes.
"Start evacuation procedures. I want to get as many people out of here as possible," Amaya instructed.
"What about you?" Asher asked.
"I'm not going anywhere. Now where is my second?"
"Master Lance is returning from a reconnaissance mission."
"Tell him to turn around and meet up with him."
"My lady, as you know, the elite guard stays with there Elder at all cost."
"I know, but he will need all the help he can get is that clear?"
"Yes, my lady,"
"Good, now go and good luck."
Nodding, Asher bowed before leaving the room. Sighing, Amaya pulled out a light blue wine bottle and a glass. Pouring the blue wine in the glass, she turned back to the mirror and held her glass up high. Evelyn and Dolan held up their glasses as well.
"Looks like I'm next," Amaya said.
"I don't know what to say to make this any easier," Evelyn said, before coughing.
Amaya watch as Dolan rubbed Evelyn's back. Her eyes narrowed as she watched a flash of the dark fire aura consume her just for a moment before Evelyn's fire red, orange aura returned. She knew that had to be torture, but just like her, Evelyn was resilient, but she would succumb eventually.
"There is nothing that can be said, but know this, when I turn, I am coming for you," Amaya said, raising her glass again.
Dolan and Evelyn raised their glasses as well.
"I wouldn't have, it any other way," Evelyn said.
The three of them sat in silence as they drank from her glasses until it was empty, enjoying every drop. Amaya placed her hand on her bottle, intending to pour herself another glass until a loud crash followed by screams interrupted her plans.
Rising to her feet, blinking away her tears, Amaya pulled out her glistening, light blue wind blade. Glancing back to the mirror, she smiled, and Evelyn nodded.
"That's my cue,"
"See you soon,"
Amaya nodded before running off as the mirror shattered.
Running into her office with her sword held high, she took a step back as shadow versions of her guards broke through the window. Their light blue armor stripped away, they charged towards her with glowing dark light blue eyes.
Backing up then dodging left and right, Amaya then ran forward slicing one guard with her sword and then spun around, tripping the other and stabbing him in the chest. Standing up, she watched as the darkness slithered away from their bodies, disappearing in a puff of smoke.
"Thank you", the men uttered before finally closing her eyes.
Tears sprang from her eyes as entered the hall. Amaya went to run to help her guards fight off the ice shadows, but it was the strange black mud like clay warriors that took her by surprise. One was about the touch her when a guard jump in the way and took the hit. Amaya could only watch as the guard gargled and chocked as the mud entered his body as he dropped on the floor, turning into a pile of dark muddy sludge.
More glass kept braking as more of the black muddy warriors emerged. Some were wrapping the guards up in roots and vines, while others were turning into sludge. But the reaming few dozen guards left kept in front of Amaya, ensuring that would protect her no matter what.
"Run my lady, we got this," One guard shouted.
Amaya wanted to protest, but she knew it would be no use, so she ran. Jumping over debris, sliding through the legs of the mud warriors and flipping over ice shadows, she came to a stop when she ended up surrounded by countless dark creatures slowly moving toward her.
Amaya's eyes gave off a light blue tint as she ran toward them and jumped up, breaking thought a window as light blue wings formed on her back.
Gliding thru the air, Amaya glanced down below to her reaming guardian fight the shadow creatures along with witnessing the destroying of many of the buildings with in the coven. While she witnesses many people running and getting to safety, she also saw bodies in the streets, some laying still while others crawled away. She even spotted an ice shadow devour one of her coven members. Shaking her head, she kept on flaying until something whizzed by her head. Stopping, her eyes narrowed. Seeing vines tried to wrap themselves around her arms and legs, but she sliced away with her blade.
Looking down, she found her where they were coming from. Slashing away in a spiral dive, her sword clashed with an axe as she stared into the dark, golden brown eyes of her friend.
"… Victor," Amaya uttered.
Jumping back, both Victor and Amaya kept their weapons up, ready for the other to make a move, but a man walked out in front of Victor with Isole by his side.
"So, your Demetrius," Amaya said bitterly.
"And your Amaya Eagles Eye infamous Air Elder. I'm so glad we get to meet," Demetrius said, followed with a smile.
Gritting her teeth and squeezing the hilt of her sword, Amaya took a step forward. Isole went to take a step forward when Demetrius shook his head.
"You're not going without a fight," Demetrius said.
Amaya remained silent as Demetrius and Isole moved aside as Victor stepped forward. Glancing around to see shadows surrounded them along with mud creature, sand converted air guards.
"Well, don't let us stop you," Demetrius said.
Victor yelled as he ran toward Amaya. He slashed his axe at her, but Amaya jumped up, landing on his axe with her blade aimed at his neck. Spiked roots shot up from around him and Amaya slashed away as she back flipped, but the moment she landed she went to run at him only to realize she couldn't move. Looking down, she noticed the roots were wrapped around her feet, growing bigger and bigger as they moved up her body. Amaya tried slashing at the spikes roots, but they squeezed her tighter. She bit her lips to keep herself from screaming.
Demetrius snapped his fingers as a dark pool formed under Amaya's feet. While she kept struggling, the roots puled her down until they completely submerged her. Clapping, Demetrius turned to Victor.
"Well done. At least that's over," Demetrius said.
"Not yet," Victory replied.
Within moments, the ground shook. Demetrius turned around and noticed the dark pool getting bigger and bigger. Then a loud shriek echoed from the pool. Soon, a large, dark mass emerged and landed in front of Demetrius. Looking up, at the dark mass formed into a large dark bald Eagle dripping in black goo. Demetrius smiled. He had never seen such a magnificent sight. As he took a step forward and reached his hand out to the gigantic bird, the animal screeched once more, knocking him on to the ground. Spreading its wings, it looked up to the sky and bolted away.
Standing up and wiping off his clothes, Demetrius looked up at the sky.
"Do we follow her?" Isole asked.
"Hm, I want to say yes, but I'm tired let's rest for now," Demetrius replied, followed with a yawn.
Victor and Isole nodded before following Demetrius back into the shadows.
Diving and flapping her large wings, the large dark bald eagle screeching throughout the sky as she continued flying. She would swoop down low enough and screamed shattering building and car windows even making people run for cover. As the darkness wrapped around the last shred of aura, Amaya kept one thing in mind and she was going to do it, no matter what.
"I'm coming… old friend."
