Chapter Seven: Hide
The village was oddly quiet and empty. No one was out and about, either they had all fled or were hiding inside. Kimberly stopped next to an abandoned fruit stand, wiping at her forehead with a paw, "We've been hopping for hours Tommy," she complained, "and we still haven't left the kingdom."
"Don't worry, we'll get out of here soon," Tommy assured her.
Just then there was the sound of hooves approaching.
"Quick," Tommy cried out, nodding to a potion stand that had been abandoned, "Behind this," he insisted hopping behind the stand, Kimberly following close behind as three men on horseback pulled to a stop next to them.
"Rito Revolto told me that he heard the queen talking to someone in the Dungeon," one of the men said, eagerly, "He claims that he thought it was the princess, but that's impossible because the princess is dead, right Sigmund?"
"You can't trust what that baffoon says, Garrett" a familiar voice called out, causing Tommy and Kimberly to look at each other, Sigmund, "I was down there, and I didn't see anyone there but those on guard duty."
"What about those frogs you told me about, the ones hopping around?" the third man asked, "I went looking for them later and I couldn't find them."
""Honestly, Geoffrey you had only one job," Sigmund said, "There was a chance that those frogs were the Princess and her friend, we've found enough remains of my dear brother," Sigmund snorted at that, "to confirm that he is truly gone but all we found of the Princess and her friend were their torn up clothes. There wasn't even any blood on them."
"You really think that they could have escaped?" Garrett asked.
"I don't think," Sigmund growled, "I know, I want those frogs found."
"And how exactly are we going to go about finding a couple of frogs?" Geoffrey asked.
"They are small reptiles," Sigmund insisted, "They can't have gone far, search the marketplace."
"Actually Frogs are amphibians," Garrett pointed out.
"Do I look like a care?" Sigmund demanded as he pointed towards the potion stand, "Search over there, but don't break anything."
Tommy leads Kimberly deeper underneath the stand, surely the man wouldn't see them there, please don't let them get spotted.
"There's nothing here," Garrett insisted after a quick look around.
"I can't find any sign of frogs either," Geoffrey insisted.
Tommy snuggled up Kimberly as they listened to her uncle and his allies talk. As soon as her heard that Sigmund say that he suspected that they were the frogs, his heart started pounding. Kimberly started to shake and he started to nuzzle her affectionately.
"I promise they won't take you from me," Tommy whispered.
"Tommy, how can you be so sure of that?" Kimberly answered as she moved closer to Tommy. "They have already caught on that we are now frogs."
"They either take me with you," Tommy started as Kimberly's skin brushed up against his. "Or they can't have you at all."
"Has the queen surrendered her crown yet?" Geoffrey asked.
"No, she hasn't," Sigmund answered angrily. "She doesn't want me to be king. If I can't be king, I am hopping that she will make my friend Lord Zedd her future king."
Tommy spotted a jar on top of a stand which read "sleeping gas" on the label. This was their chance, he slowly crawled out from behind the stand and Kimberly followed him. The villains' were arguing over who should keep watch and who should be looking for Tommy and Kimberly. Tommy jumped up and knocked the jar on the ground. The jar shattered and a sliver gas started to spread all over the area. Just within seconds Sigmund, his two friends, and their horses were put to sleep.
Tommy and Kimberly hopped until they made their way into a forest. But, everything appeared to much larger than they ever did before. The trees were like skyscrapers and fire flies were almost like street lights lighting up the dark and deserted streets.
"Kim do you know who Lord Zedd is?" Tommy questioned.
"I have no idea," Kimberly replied. "This was the first time I have ever heard of that name."
"I never heard that name either," Tommy admitted. "For now we need to keep going to get away from Sigmund's bunch."
