I don't own Twilight. Or any other book/cafe mentioned in this story.
Seven.
I was so nervous. We arrived at the first hotel. It was large enough, but there was no club, so I told them we would be forced to find a bar.
Edward was not pleased.
"Bella, this is not a good idea." He had reduced to pleading and begging. It was pathetic and humorous at the same time.
"You promised." I practically sang it when he followed me into the bathroom and I started to put my make up on. That was a first. I never wore makeup.
I shooed him out of the bathroom so I could change into something with more flare, so to speak; a little black dress Alice had gotten me. She left a note too.
"He's going to love it."
I smirked. Of course he would, because I was going to flaunt myself to the entire bar unless he danced with me. And Jake? Jake would have to find another girl tonight. I may have been starting to get a lot braver, but that didn't mean I was going to lead him on or hurt Edward.
When I opened the door and stepped out, he looked up at me. His eyes darkened and his voice seemed to coat with even more velvet than I had ever heard before. He had the same look that he had had the day we went to meet the rest of the family for the first time.
He even repeated himself. "You look utterly indecent."
I coughed, trying to step away before he knew just what he did to me in these moments. "Go get changed," I ordered and he pulled away.
I felt new. A sense of something peeled away from me, and it was happening a little at a time, already. The wallflower; the side of me that stuck to anything safe, was gone tonight. And if I could help it – it would be gone in the days to come too.
For so long I had been stuck, living my life in the rut. Edward could have been right; my mother was a little hair brained and liked to be on the road. Not like this though. Although she had more sense of adventure than I ever thought to hope for, she didn't dance.
And she definitely didn't do it in front of anyone.
Edward was beside me, and I jumped as he murmured, "Jacob is waiting for us outside."
We left then, making our way down to the elevator. "I know this is probably weird, to have a girlfriend who wants to go to a bar and not to the bookstore for once."
He seemed to relax at that. "I guess I should get used to it, I mean, Alice and Rose do it sometimes when we leave and go to some big city. I've never gotten how Jasper and Emmett can do it, but then, now's as good as any time to learn."
"That's all I ask."
When we got outside, Jake came up and eyed me, then looked to Edward. "You're going to let her walk around like that?"
Edward started to reply but I interrupted, "He's not letting me do anything. I'm doing this – and you're going to accept it, just as he has."
Jake sulked.
"Alright boys, let's go. We're wasting the beginning of the night!"
Across the road was a tattoo shop with a giant bar beside it. "Are we allowed to even go in?" Jake asked me.
"Edward, show him." He reached into his pockets with a long sigh.
"I'm so going to regret this." There were three fake I.D.s that he produced.
"No, you're not! Alice, remember? Alice," I replied.
I eyed the tattoo shop. A thought started to form in my mind. The book wasn't here, but the girl was. We crossed the road and they started to the bar, as I stopped and thought to myself what exactly I would get.
Edward was in my face immediately. "Bella, no."
"Edward, yes."
Jacob was enjoying our little disagreement. "You know, I have one. It's not a big deal," he told Edward.
"You have one because it's in your D.N.A." Edward looked to me again, "No."
"You promised you would behave or go home, right?"
"Bella, what if – "
"No, Edward, no what ifs. This is part of the fun."
"But you might hate it."
"Not if I make the right choice. Hm, something that stands out, that says, 'Bella'."
He sat down on the sidewalk and glanced up at me again. "Fine, how about a book?"
"Too generic."
Jake nodded in agreement.
"What about a name? You could use mine."
"Nope."
"What, why?"
"Because I don't want to be owned by you. I want to be loved by you," I put it simply.
"Okay…how about…a swan?"
I looked down at him. That thought hadn't occurred to me. It was simple yet spoke to me. I would always want a reminder of my past. Even if I did marry Edward and become a Cullen.
"I like it," I told him.
He beamed.
Jake spoke. "Alright, let's get the tattoo so we can get to watching you dance." He sounded a bit defeated.
"Jake, this is about all of us. If we're all going to be on this trip, we have to all take chances. You're going to dance, whether you like it or not," I looked down at Edward then, "And so are you."
They looked to each other then, rolling their eyes.
We walked in to the shop, I told them what I wanted and as I started to pay, Edward handed his card over and put my hand down to my side. "It was my idea; I should at least get credit."
"Fine with me."
I thought it would hurt, but surprisingly, it didn't. If anything, it was like a small scratch that happened over and over, and then just like that, it was done. I mean, I had picked a rather small one, and it did end up on my shoulder.
"Let's get to the party!" Jake yelled over the music. The fake I.D.s and Edward's flashing teeth had left little room for disagreement from the bouncer.
I dragged Edward to the middle of the floor and we started to dance. This feeling – this feeling of freedom was starting to make me feel drunk, even though the idea of that was in mind too.
He eyed me and then started to smile, and I knew then, that he was having fun too.
Jacob stopped dancing in the middle of the floor, and people were started to glare at him and flip him off. I looked to Edward and said, "What's up with him?"
He looked back down with an even broader smile, "Jacob imprinted."
