Author Note? (Never done one of these before): Sorry this one took a while. I've kinda been sitting on it. Just couldn't work out if I liked it or not. Next chapter will probably be up sooner, AKA no 3 week wait. Sorry again.

Chapter 6: Summer's End

It was September 21 , a Monday. It was also the last day of summer. It had been over a week since the younger Amelia, now called Meeley, had arrived. It was rough to say the least. The two women were always arguing, usually about nothing. The only time they where collaborative when working on the planes. Amelia would modify the inner workings of the Canary, and Meeley worked on the cosmetics of the Electra 10E. Neither woman would talk, but they expressed contentment with each other's work.

Larry had an idea for that night, watching an in-depth docu-series on Amelia Earhart's life. He was sure it was going to clear the air. The man brought a DVD player from home, just to make sure he could play it.

"Larry, are you sure this is a good idea?" Amelia had felt bad about telling the youth about her disappearance, despite how she ignored it. "Maybe it's best she doesn't know."

"Amelia, she's already trapped here. It's not like she's going to change the past with this knowledge."

"Alright Ace, I'll trust ya."

Larry called the young woman and his girlfriend down to his office. He was installing the DVD player when the two arrived. As the DVD started playing the screen, both women looked at the TV shocked. Then the documentary started.

Everyone watched the series quietly. Both Amelias choked up during a few scenes, but both made it through. Or at least until the end when Meeley suddenly broke.

"I-I," Meeley was choking up, "I'm sorry Amelia. I didn't know what you've been through, what I've gone through." The 20 year old was bawling, sprawled on her older self. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."

"Quite groveling." The older woman snapped, shocking everyone in the room. "You are Amelia Earhart, You were the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, you set the Altitude Record, and were the only woman daring enough to attempt to fly across the world. You-me-we, are incredible. Do you expect me to throw you a bone? I won't, because I know you can handle it because I did, and I am you, Ms. Earhart."

The speech made by Amelia got through to Meeley, for what felt like the first time. She understood why she was so careful with her, while being tougher than elephant skin. Meeley just smiled, then punched Amelia in the shoulder.

Larry looked pleased with himself. Like always, his ideas were winners. He walked over to the DVD player and ejected the circular disk. After putting it in its case, he placed it on the bookshelf overlooking the office. He would remember this night as one of his best. Maybe, the man thought I should become a therapist. He walked out of the room leaving the two women together.

About an hour later the two returned to the exhibits. They spent the entire night watching the show, leaving little time for chatting. Larry didn't interrupt their silence, instead opting to help the other exhibits at the end of the night.

The next day, Dr. Mcphee arrived at 8:15, as per normal. What wasn't normal was that he brought company. The director stopped Larry from leaving and asked him into his office.

"Since I've found out our predicament Larry, I hired a new guard." He said, turning to the woman he walked in with. "This is Summer Edmonds, your new..." He took a moment to figure out what to say, flaily his hands around while thinking. "Assistant? Co-guard? Protégé? The new girl." He settled on. "She starts tonight, and you'll need to explain it to her our… situation."

"I understand Dr. McPhee." Larry sighed while leaving, not bothering to say anything else.

Summer finally spoke up, "Geez, is he always like this?"

Larry arrived at 8PM like every night. Then he remembered he had to show the new kid what the museum really was. When he opened the door to the security room, he was shocked to find the newbie getting prepared.

"Oh, hello Mr. Daley." She stated coldly. "I was wondering when you would arrive."

"Kid, you know this job is from 8:30-6 right? You must've got here at 7! It may not seem like it, but this'll wear you out." Larry was annoyed, but mostly concerned for the young woman.

"I can take care of myself. I made this decision Mr. Daley."

"It's Larry. He corrected. "Why does every woman I meet call me that?" He whispered. "Well, it's gonna sundown soon, so you might wanna stick with me & Teddy."

"Who's Teddy? Another employee?"

"Not exactly."

The two walked out of the office and to the main hall.

"This some sort of prank, Larry?" She said, staring down Theodore Roosevelt & Texas.

"Give it a minute, it's about to be sundown." He mumbled looking down out the main windows.

"Yeah, I'm gonna go somewhere else now." She yelled while turning around.

"Good evening Miss, I must inform you the museum is closed today, so you must leave immediately."

Summer's eyes widened. She contemplated turning around or just walking away as the voice instructed. It must be a joke, so it won't matter if I turn around. She spun to see Theodore Roosevelt sitting on his horse, ready to move.

"Don't worry Teddy, McPhee hired her after he found out about the museum's secret. I was hoping you'd tag along with us tonight, like my first night." Larry questioned.

"I'm sorry lad, but this is your responsibility. I cannot help you." He said before riding off.

"What the hell is going on?!" Summer screamed. That was before she turned around and saw the Tyrannosaurus waking up. When Larry ran up to the creatures, she screamed even louder, causing Rexy to roar back. Larry took out his rib and attached it to the RC car, and handed the controller to Columbus. "How is this happening?"

"Let's go see Ahk, it's his tablet that brings them to life." So they did, after some encounters with other exhibits, including the lions. But they did make it. "Hey Ahk, McPhee hired a new guard, so I was hoping that you could explain a bit of the Tablet to her."

"Is that a m-mummy?" She whispered, still spooked from the earlier events.

"I am miss, but the tablet brings me, and everything else to life at night." Ahk explained to the young woman. This seemed to ease her a little. "The only ones who stay awake are the non-exhibits. Those are Larry, Dr. McPhee, and you."

"Oh thank god!" Summer exclaimed. "It's nice here and all, but I don't want to be trapped here."

The two eventually wandered over to where The Amelias' were. Amelia hopped on Larry, kissing him as she dove. Meeley sat with a smirk, before turning to the young woman that accompanied Larry. Her expression was now one of confusion and shock.

"Psst, Amelia, there's somebody watching you two." She whispered to the entwined couple.

All the older woman could do was blush and hide her face, mildly embarrassed.

"Uhh, Summer," Larry said, blushing harder than Amelia, "This is Amelia & The younger one is Meeley." He cleared his throat semi-dramatically. "Me and Amelia have a long history, but Melley's new here. That you two have in common."
