Surprise! I have another chapter and it's super early! I figured since chapter 6 was really late that I should get the last and final chapter done, and it's shorter than the rest. Plus, I already had part of the ending written out, so here you go!
I hope you all enjoyed this story as much as I did :)
That night, Dipper didn't sleep that well. And neither did Mabel. They ended up staying up all night talking about what happened. This man was their Grunkle Ford? And he had ran away from the Falls, returning when he had enough courage to "stand up" to Bill?
It was too much to process at once.
They got up in the morning as usual, eating breakfast in silence.
That was when they heard a knock on the door.
"I'll get it," Mabel said, grabbing her cup of Mabel Juice as she walked to the door. She opened it, and was definitely startled when she saw Bill's face.
"What are you doing here?! Ford's gonna kill you if he sees this!" she whispered.
"I'm here to apologize." he whispered back.
"Okay," she responded, opening the door fully, letting Bill in.
Ford's head snapped up from his coffee mug.
"Get out of my-"
"Stanford, I know you're not happy with me, but just listen."
"Give him a chance, Great Uncle Ford." Dipper said.
He sighed in defeat, but crossed his arms. "Fine."
"I didn't kill Scarlett Modoc. Sherman did." Ford said nothing, so he continued on. "In 2004, I started the explosion because Sherman cloned himself. I was spying on him when he came here and used the copy machine."
Stan gasped. "So that's why that rascal raided my gift shop!"
"That's why Sherman was still here after he died. He was planning to kidnap Dipper and Mabel after the party and erase their memories with the memory gun Fiddleford made. I did what I had to do. So I took Mason."
"And I took Mabel." Stan explained.
"Do you believe me now, Ford?" Bill asked.
"Yes." he admitted. "I forgive you. I'm sorry for blaming you."
"It's okay."
Suddenly, two more people - Wendy, and her husband (who he found out was named Robbie Valentino) - burst through the door. "Bill, we've got to leave. We have another urgent case!" the redhead yelled.
"Well, I guess this is goodbye, Sixer."
It was the end of their trip. Dipper would have to leave.
He'd have to leave Gravity Falls, it's townsfolk, Mayor Tyler, he'd even miss Fiddleford.
He'd have to leave Pacifica and Gideon, and Wendy and Robbie, and Soos and Ray.
He'd have to leave the Mystery Shack, and Grunkle Stan and Grunkle Ford.
He'd have to leave...
...Mabel.
He threw his arms around her back, and she hugged him back too. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he could already hear Mabel sniffing as she buried her face in the shoulder of Dipper's vest.
"I'm gonna miss you." he said.
She sniffed once more, lifting her arm to wipe her face, and they stood there, by each other, letting the warmth blanket them softly in the evening sun. "I'm gonna miss you, too!" she cried.
After a few minutes of silence, everyone staring around at them calmly, Bill stepped up to Dipper's side, putting an arm around him.
"You alright, kid?"
"Yeah."
They hugged each other for a few seconds, then let go. The sun began to set, the beautiful orange and yellow hues and shades covering the sky, just like the explosion. But in a more peaceful way...
Finally, after so long, everything was... resolved.
"We'll visit next summer, though, right?"
"Yeah, Pine Tree..." he said, smiling warmly as they turned around to leave.
"...We'll be here again, one sunny day."
The End.
