He brought Bella. I take a deep breath. I thought tonight was going to be uncomplicated. When Jacob and Bella finally reach the fire it's quiet. Everyone is waiting for Sam´s reaction.

"Jacob. Hi Bella" Sam starts

"Hi Sam" Bella says and looks down. She looks like I remember her, tall, pale and with long brown hair. She is beautiful, it's not difficult to understand Jacobs infatuation with her.

"I don't want to be rude to you Bella, but Jacob you know the rules. Bonfires are for the pack"

Bella nods

"Yeah I understand, I told Jacob that I shouldn't be here" Bella says with a small voice.

"Bella already knows everything, she should hear the legends. Don't tell me that she doesn't have a right to be here" Jacob says defiantly and crosses his arms. Sam looks at me and I look away. I want nothing to do with this.

"Come on Bella, what do you want to eat?" Jacob says to Bella and puts his hand at the end of her back and carefully guides her among the logs. I look at Billy, Jacob's father, he looks disappointed.

"Are you okay?" Kim whispers.

"Yeah, I promise. I don't care, I really don't" I say. Kim and Jared look at me with sympathy like they don't believe what I just said. I am speaking the truth. I don't care about the relationship between Jacob and Bella. As long as Jacob is happy and not screaming at me I´m fine.

Jared looks like he wants to say something else but then Billy voices up and starts speaking in all his majesty and respect. I had forgotten about the power in these moments. The way Billy is telling the legends is so capturing that I shiver.

"We must never forget the way our tribe has been threatened and slaughtered by our enemies. And our enemies are still here. We feel it in our blood, causing our sons and daughters to phase in order to defend the tribe. May the Spirits guide and protect you. We all have a role to play. All of us".

As he says the last sentence he looks directly at me.

The weight of his words fills the atmosphere. I look around the fire and see all the young but serious faces of Quil, Leah, Seth and my heart is filled with respect for them. I feel different as well. I am a part of something.

After a while the atmosphere lightens and some of the guys start a football match. I am standing by the table to get a refill when I hear someone approaching me.

"Hi"

I turn around, it's Bella.

"Oh hi" I say kindly.

"It´s Stephanie, right? I remember hanging out with you when we were younger"

I nod

"Yeah, I remember that as well. How are you?"

"Well I´m good, it's just a lot going on. Things have changed from when we are children"

I wonder if she knows about the imprint. I´m not going to ask.

"So you moved here? That is why you were allowed to know about the legends? It must be difficult for Quil trying to hide it from you."

She doesnt know and I am not going to be the one to tell her.

"Yes my dad got a job in Europe but we thought it was best for me to finish high school here. It feels good to be back, but of course it feels a bit weird leaving my home. You know what it's like"

Quil had told me that Bella moved back here from Arizona to live with her dad.

"Come Bella, let's go"

We turn around. Jacob was approaching us. He didn't look happy seeing Bella and I talking to each other. Bella gave me an apologizing look.

"It was nice meeting you again Stephanie, I hope I get to see you soon" She says.

I meet Jacobs' eyes, he looks angry at me once again. Well, two can play that game.

"Yeah that would be nice, maybe I could meet your boyfriend next time? I have heard a lot about him"

"No!" Jacob suddenly roars and turns red. I glance at him and then I leave to go find Kim.

The next day I groan when my alarm is calling. It´s been a while since I woke up this early. I do my make up and carefully choose an outfit. I choose a white t-shirt and a black strap dress to wear over. The dress stops at my knees, I don't know the dress code of my new school so I go for the safe option. I walk down the stairs and meet Quil in the kitchen, he has a massive plate of breakfast in front of him. I am no longer surprised by the amount of food he eats.

"You look good" Quil says with his mouth full of food.

After a while we walk outside to ride with Embry. Kim sits in the car as well. Jared, Paul and Leah have already graduated. We arrive at the school, it's smaller than I thought. They help me to get my locker and schedule. I obviously don't have any classes with the rest of them since they are a year older than me. Quil follows me to my first class.

"Good luck Steph, see you at lunch" He says and gives me a hug. I walk in the classroom and sit by an empty desk. I get my books and notes ready when I feel someone plopping down next to me.

"Hi! You are new here"

I look at the person talking who is sitting next to me. It is a guy with big brown eyes and a kind smile. Next to him stands a girl with short black hair and a nose piercing.

"Hi! Yeah, I just moved here"

"But you are Quileute? Oh and we are Antonia and Kiro by the way"

"Well I am half quileute. My mom is from here. My name is Stephanie"

"Nice to meet you Stephanie"

I smile and then the teacher walks in the classroom.

It turns out that Antonia, Kiro and I share most of the classes together and they show me all the classrooms. They are really nice. As we are walking to lunch they point at a big table where five other guys and a couple of girls are sitting. They look older, probably one or two years older than us.

"That's where we usually sit. Come and sit with us"

I am just about to walk there when I hear someone calling my name

"Stephanie!" It´s Quil, he is sitting with the rest of the pack and is waving to me

"Oh right, that's my cousin Quil. I said that I was sitting with him today, but maybe tomorrow?"

"Oh you are with them" Kiro says and looks at Antonia. They share a look.

I go and sit by the table where the pack sits.

"There she is, the girl the entire school talks about" Embry laughs.

"What are you talking about?" I say as I pack up my lunch.

"Don't forget that we have super hearing and look around, everyone is talking about you"

I look around and I see a lot of people sneakily looking at me

"You are the shiny new toy" Kim says

Later that day Kim and I are standing outside the school building waiting for someone to pick us up when a guy is walking up to us

"Hi! You are new here, right?

"Yeah"

"I am Elliott" He says and gives me a huge smile. I stretch out my hand and he responds and shakes my hand.

"Nice to meet you, my name is Stephanie"

"Well I just wanted to say welcome, it's always nice to see a new face around here. And a beautiful face too, as a bonus"

I blush and are just about to say something when someone interrupts us

"Steph and Kim, come on I am driving you two home" It´s Jacob. He points to his car and gestures to us to come with him.

"Well nice to meet you Stephanie, I´ll see you around" Elliott says

"Nice to meet you too!" I say and walk with Kim. I don't miss the way Jacob looks at Elliott, giving him a dark look.

We are listening to the radio in the car as Jacob looks at me in the rearview mirror.

"You should stay away from him, he is bad news"

"Who? Elliott?" I ask

"Yes, believe me when I say that he only wants one thing from girls"

I roll my eyes and look at Kim who sits next to me.

"It's true, he has slept with like half the school. One girl in my class cried for a week after he broke up with her" Kim says

"I don't want you to get hurt" Jacobs says with his dark voice.
