(A/N: I know, I've been MIA longer this time than most. And I feel truly bad about keeping all of my readers waiting. 2020 was truly a shitty year and Covid 19 hit my family hard. My aunt and cousin both passed away from it within a matter of days after contracting it, and my uncle is still sick with it. And we've only been able to have funeral's via Zoom, so it's been really tough these past couple of months. With that being said, I haven't forgotten about my stories, but there has been a lot going on in my life. I have missed writing and wanted to try and ease my way back into it, but once I get started it's kind of hard to stop. So I have new updates on three of my stories for you all to read. I hope you all will enjoy them, and thanks for sticking with me through these tough times. I hope everyone stays safe. Also #BlackLivesMatter RIP to Duante Wright. And I hope justice will be served for George Floyd as well. Alright thanks again you guys. Enjoy!)
"Sonic Boom!"
Then.
Huck was on his way to a huge payday. He spent almost a week on deciphering the video he'd given to Jake not too long ago. It was now seventy-five percent clear and he could easily make out who was in that video with Senator Pope. And it definitely wasn't her husband. He felt his heart swell with joy as he thought about all of the bills he could pay and all of the debt he could settle. He'd set up a meeting with Jake Ballard two days from now. That's all he would need to have a completely clear video. In two days his life would finally change for the better. He sighed in relief. But he did feel a small pang of guilt at the thought of possibly ruining someone's career for money. But he needed this money desperately, that reason alone justified his actions in his mind.
He was heading back to his car after going to Best Buy to grab software he would need to clear up the video. He parked on a dark street near an alley. Huck unlocked his car door with his key fob, and was about to get into his vehicle; when he felt the cold metal barrel of a nine millimeter handgun pressing into the back of his head. He quickly placed his hands above his head and dropped the bag from Best Buy in the process. He was about to try and offer his wallet in exchange for his life when a cold female voice asked.
"Why are you looking into Olivia Pope?"
Now.
"Please don't shoot me," begged Huck. "I have a wife and a two year old son at home."
Quinn moved the gun to his back."Walk over to the passengers side, slowly," she instructed. Huck put his hands down and did as he was told. "Hand me your car keys." He gave her the car keys and she unlocked the door. "Get in."
He did that as well and she closed the door and kept the gun trained on him as she walked around the front of the car to get in on the drivers side. Once she got in she turned the car on and kept the gun pointed at his stomach.
"Why are you looking into Olivia Pope?" she asked again?
"Some...someone asked me to?" he stuttered.
"Who?" Huck remained silent, his eyes darting around the car for a possible method of escape. Quinn noticed this and said. "I'll put three bullets in you before you could step foot outside of the door." Huck's eyes widened in fear, but he remained silent. "Tell me who has you looking into Olivia Pope and I'll let you go home to your wife and kid," she promised.
"I can't."
She poked the gun into his stomach and said. "Can't or won't." Huck shook his head.
"Look whatever you want I'll give it to you, just please let me go," he whimpered.
"I want you to stop looking into her, that's what I want. And I also want you to tell me who you're looking into her for? If you won't, I'll find out anyway, but it will be easier for you if you just tell me. Because when I find out who it is, I'll come back for you and finish this off." she poked him in the stomach with the gun harder and took the safety off.
"I ca...can't tell you who it is, but I'll stop looking into her, I promise."
Quinn glared at him, trying to get a read on him to see if he was telling the truth. He looked terrified and she knew that he would do as she asked, but she still wanted to know who he was working for. She decided to switch things up.
"How'd you hack our system? I have the best firewalls in the country. No one's been able to hack our system before." She seemed slightly amazed by this.
"I just ran a couple of encryption codes and found the one that worked," he explained as calmly as he could, for someone who had a gun pointed at their gut.
Quinn scowled at him. "Yeah well you're not the only one that can hack Huck. Or should I say Diego Munez."
251 Oak Street, Arlington Virginia." Huck looked at her sharply. "That's your home address right. Kim Coles, she's your wife. She's a school teacher at Harriet Tubman elementary in N.W. D.C.?" Huck remained silent, but gulped at how much she knew. "And your son Javier, he just turned two a couple of months ago. You've enrolled him at the Kiddie Academy in Northeast D.C. I would hate for anything to have to happen to them, I know you would too."
"Don't come near my family!" he warned.
Quinn narrowed her eyes and pulled the clip back on the gun, she could've sworn she saw a tear fall from his eye. "You're not really in any position to be dishing out threats right now are you?"
Huck took a deep calming breath. "Look I'll do whatever you want just please don't come near my family."
Quinn sat back and smirked at him. "You know if you weren't so shady my boss would have probably hired you. We could use another hacker on the team. And clearly you could use the money."
"I don't know what you're talking about," he lied.
Quinn chuckled humorlessly. "Please, spare me the bullshit okay. I know you're not looking into Olivia Pope for the hell of it. You're trying to find dirt on her for someone. Obviously they're paying you. I know that you're behind on your mortgage and you have two car notes past due. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why you're doing what you're doing."
Huck sighed. "I'm just trying to keep my family afloat."
"Yeah well if you wanna keep your family alive, you better keep your promise and stop looking into the Senator, because if you don't I'll kill both your wife and your son and make you watch while I do it."
Huck felt the blood drain from his face. "Who are you?" he asked curiously.
"You don't need to know my name, just know that I'm a woman of my word." She told him. She opened the door to get out of the car, while keeping the gun trained on him. "I'll be in touch."
Quinn exited his vehicle and threw his keys on the drivers side seat. She put the gun in her coat pocket and walked away. Huck let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. Just who the hell was Olivia Pope really? And what had he gotten himself into? He thought.
He shook his head and decided to get on the drivers side of the car to go home. He left his bag from Best Buy on the ground without even thinking twice about it. He put the key back into the ignition and started the car. Before he could pull off, his phone buzzed indicating that he had a text message. He looked at it and saw that the message came from a blocked number.
There was a picture of his wife holding his son, at home in his kitchen through the window. The message underneath the picture read. "Keep your promise and I'll keep mine." Huck felt a chill go down his spine, but ignored it as he put the pedal to the floor and took off.
Fitz had his whole team in the conference room the next day to meet with Senator Jacob Shaw. They were going to inform him of Amanda Tanner's pregnancy. He wasn't looking forward to this conversation, but it needed to be done.
Fitz was getting ready to walk out of his office to head to the conference room himself when he was stopped by Stephen.
"Look Fitz, I just want to apologize for the other night. I know that you and Olivia love each other and want to be together, I just don't want to see you get hurt again."
Fitz understood where his friend was coming from. He was a complete mess after breaking things off with Olivia six months ago. He felt guilty for dragging Stephen into his relationship problems.
He patted him on the shoulder. "Water under the bridge Stevie. Now get your game face on. Shaw is in for a world of trouble." Stephen nodded and gave him a small smile.
"You got it boss man."
They walked into the conference room together. Stephen took a seat towards the back and Fitz stood in front leaning on the window before speaking. "Seems you left out some major details in our discussion about you and Amanda Tanner, Shaw."
Jacob Shaw looked at him confused. "What are you talking about Fitz, I told you everything."
Fitz sighed, he could always tell when someone was lying to him. It's what made him the best at what he did. "You were with her for six months." He stated. "You rented her a condo in Alexandria, ten minutes from where you live with your girlfriend, or should I say fiance." He frowned at him. "You also bought her a dog, a golden retriever named Liberty." Quinn slid a picture in front of Jacob of him and Amanda petting her dog together. Jacob's face grew white in embarrassment. "Cute dog," commented Fitz emotionlessly.
Jacob sat up straight and tried to figure out a way to explain himself. "Look Fitz I know this looks bad, but I promise you, I was going to end things with her."
"Oh yeah," chimed Stephen. "If that's the case, then why did she send us a copy of your text messages where you were asking her to stay in this fucked up relationship with you?" He slid Jacob a copy of the texts.
Jacob laughed it off. "I was drunk when I sent those messages."
Fitz raised an eyebrow at this. "You sent those messages at nine o'clock on a Tuesday morning. So you're telling me you were drunk in your senate meetings at the capitol?"
Jacob looked around the room nervously. Everyone had their eyes on him waiting for what he would say next. Finally he just decided to come clean. "Look Fitz I fucked up okay. There's just so much pressure to be perfect I crumbled, alright. I had a moment of weakness, but we're over now. Done."
Fitz cleared his throat and stood up straight. "I don't think you're as done as you hope Shaw."
"What are you talking about? I ended things with her. I haven't contacted her since I sent those messages."
Fitz nodded. "That may be true, but there's something you don't know about Amanda. I'd imagine she'd want to break the news to you herself, but she can't really stand the sight of you at the moment."
Jacob looked at him feeling completely lost. "What's going on Fitz, tell me."
Fitz looked straight into his eyes and just decided to come straight out with it. "She's pregnant."
Jacob looked as if he wanted the ground to swallow him up whole, but said. "Okay, okay. So what do we do? Is she gonna keep it? Do I need to give her money for an abortion? What do I do Fitz?"
Fitz thought over his questions, trying to process the best way to move forward. He remained silent for a long time and the suspense was getting to Jacob.
"Tell me!" he demanded.
Fitz played the scenario over and over again in his head. "She doesn't want to terminate the pregnancy, Jacob. You're going to have to talk to her."
"But you just said that she doesn't want to talk to me. Fuck man this is going to ruin my life," he exclaimed, putting his head in his hands.
Fitz shook his head, disappointed in his friend's selfishness. Quinn remained neutral, Marcus looked at Stephen and Fitz to see what would happen next. Stephen glared at Jacob, clearly disgusted with his behavior. But Alyssa who was also disgusted with Jacob spoke up.
"Ruin your life!" she hissed. "You selfish, entitled asshole!"
"Alyssa..." Fitz started. She knew better than this. They weren't in the habit of judging their clients. No matter how much of a pain in the ass they could be.
"No Fitz, I need to say this," she told him. Fitz sighed and motioned for her to continue, maybe she could talk some sense into Jacob, he thought.
"You manipulated this young girl into thinking that you cared about her, when you were only using her to forget about your own problems. You used her for six months and now that you're about to be up for reelection next year, you want to toss her to the side like yesterday's trash and continue on living in your fantasy world, with your "Fiance" who's probably too good for you anyway. If anything I'd say you ruined her life. Because she's pregnant, hurt and alone. And that's all thanks to you! How about you think about somebody else for a change, like your unborn child for a start!" Alyssa ranted.
Stephen smirked, as did Fitz, but he hid his well. Quinn remained neutral still, but Marcus looked at her in shock. He'd never heard her talk to a client that way.
Jacob's face grew red, whether it was from anger or embarrassment. Fitz didn't know.
"I'm going to set up a meeting for you and Amanda Tanner next week. She's out of town right now, but I know she'll be back soon. Hopefully she'll come if I call her. You just make sure you have your ass here. Otherwise I can't stop her from going public with this Jacob," Fitz warned him.
Jacob nodded mutely. He got up out of the chair and headed out of the conference room without so much as a goodbye. He hadn't had his ass handed to him like this since his early days in the senate.
Once he was gone, Stephen turned to Alyssa. "Remind me to never get on your bad side," he joked. Quinn finally cracked a smile. Fitz smiled too for a moment, before getting back to business.
"Alyssa call Amanda and set up a meeting for next week on Thursday morning, and maybe don't tell her that Jacob will be in attendance," said Fitz. Alyssa got on her phone to pull up Amanda's number. "Marcus make sure Jacob really isn't in contact with Amanda anymore. We don't need her angrier than she already is right now." Marcus nodded before making his way to his office. "Stephen find out how far along Amanda is. We need to be one hundred percent sure that this baby is Jacob's before the meeting next Thursday. Quinn come with me." he said. They all left off to do what they were told.
Quinn followed Fitz into his office and closed the door behind her. "What did you find out about this hacker?" he asked.
Quinn crossed her arms over her chest. "He's looking into Olivia Pope, I don't know why and I don't know who hired him yet, but I do know that he's doing it for the money."
"Find out how much he's getting paid and see if we can pay him off instead, I can't have anything tying me to her other than our professional relationship." He told her.
Quinn nodded. "I know, I'm on the case, don't worry about it, I got your back."
Fitz smiled. "Thanks Quinn."
"Sure thing boss man," she said jokingly, before leaving his office. Fitz chuckled lightly as she left his office.
A week had gone by and Olivia was more confident than ever that she was going to be able to hand Edison divorce papers within a matter of days and there wasn't going to be anything he could do about it. She'd spent the night at Fitz's condo much to the dismay of her husband. Edison hadn't spoken to her all week and she was quite honestly happy about that.
She and Fitz had just showered together and they were getting ready to head out for their prospective work days.
"Are you coming over tonight?" he asked as he started to fix his tie. She put on her blue pumps and walked over to him to adjust his tie for him.
"I have another meeting with Senator Ross this evening but I'll be back after that." she told him as she finished with his tie. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer.
"Good I'm going to cook us dinner," he said.
She laughed. "And burn down the kitchen," she joked. He smiled at her happily.
"I'll have you know that I've been watching the cooking channel and brushing up on my skills thank you very much."
She laughed again, as she wrapped her arms around his neck. "Well this I've got to see."
He grinned at her. "I'm sure whatever I cook will be better than your daily dinner of wine and popcorn Livvie." She playfully smacked him on the chest.
"Just try not to burn down the condo before I get back. I'm starting to really like it here," she told him. He placed a sweet kiss on her lips.
"I think my condo is starting to like you too, especially my bed," he flirted.
"I like your bed too, especially waiting for you in it naked." He squeezed her ass and she yelped.
"Don't start something we can't finish Livvie," he warned her, a glossy look coming over his face.
"We will pick this up tonight," she promised, leaning up to kiss him again.
"Looking forward to it," he told her as he broke their embrace.
"I have some good news by the way," she said as she grabbed her purse.
"Oh yeah, what's that?" he asked, putting on his cufflinks.
"I'm going to serve Edison with divorce papers next week." He turned around to look at her to make sure he wasn't dreaming.
"What'd you say?"
She smiled at him tenderly before walking over to him, taking his hand in hers. "I said, I'm going to serve Edison with divorce papers next week. I finally have enough dirt on him that if he were to even think about exposing our relationship, the blowback he'd receive from what I have would run him out of D.C."
Fitz wanted to hope this was true, but he knew how ruthless Edison Davis and his family could be. "Livvie are you sure. I mean Edison won't go quietly no matter what you have on him. He and his parents will burn this town to the ground to keep you in that crazy ass family."
She squeezed his hand. "Fitz I know what I'm up against. And trust me when I say that I have this under control. There's no way they could take me down without bringing their whole family down as well."
"I just want you to be sure sweet baby, remember what they did to Marcus," he reminded her.
Olivia sighed and let go of his hand, looking down at the ground for a moment. "I remember," she whispered. "But remember who helped you get him out of the predicament they put him in, in the first place," she stated, looking back up at him.
Fitz pulled her into his arms and kissed her on the forehead. "I know and I'm forever grateful for that, so is Marcus, even though he doesn't know what you did for him. I just, I want this to be real Livvie. We've waited for so long to finally just be together. I don't want anything to come between us anymore."
She squeezed his shoulders. "Me neither, which is why you have to trust me when I say that I have this covered. I'm leaving Edison and we're going to be together like we want too, just give me a little more time."
He kissed her on the lips and said. "I'll wait for you, however long it takes."
Edison was working late at the office on a very important case. The kind of case that could make or break his career. So he needed to focus. But his mind kept wandering back to his philandering wife and that manwhore she seemed to love spending so much time with. She was being so sloppy and careless. Staying at his condo throughout the week, leaving there for work in the morning. If she wasn't more careful everything they'd worked so hard for and sacrificed would all be for nothing.
He had Charlie trying to get something on her to keep her in line, but so far Charlie hit a dead end. He informed Edison that Olivia had someone watching her back, erasing her movements. There wasn't even footage of her going and coming from Grant's condo even though he knew she'd been there every night for the past week. That fact angered him even more. And now he wondered just who she had scrubbing her from every camera in the D.C. area. Honestly he was happy taking on this case, because it gave him a much needed distraction. Plus Charlie said that someone hacked their way around FGA's firewall, Charlie piggybacked on the other person, so maybe he'd have something he could use on her soon.
For now he was buried in work. The partners had him working with their newest intern. Alex Vargas. He was a bright young lawyer, eager and willing. But Edison wondered just how eager Alex was. He supposed he'd find out soon enough. At his firm everyone looked out for each other. The top lawyers all knew each other's dirty little secrets, that way no one could talk without something getting out about them. Edison found that this helped keep the partners in line. Davis and Davis was one of the top law firms in the country. Lawyers from all over the U.S. were willing to sell their souls for a position there. And it was up to him to weed out the weak from the strong. Time to put Alex to the test he thought.
"So I was looking over these bank statements and something's not adding up," said Alex, pulling Edison from his thoughts.
"Oh yeah, what's that?" he asked intrigued?
"Here is a transfer of $10,000.00 to an account, but the routing number is not long enough to belong to any account in the U.S."
Edison looked it over and discovered that Alex was right. This had to be a transfer to an offshore account, and if that was the case, they could nail these bastards in court. How the hell did he miss this before? He blamed his distracted mind on his cheating wife. But those thoughts could be pushed aside for now.
He smiled brightly. "Alex, you're a fucking genius!" he exclaimed. "We've got this case in the bag now!" he said excitedly. He patted Alex on the back in congratulations.
"Thanks, just doing my job," said Alex happily. He couldn't believe he'd impressed Edison Davis. If he kept this up he'd make first chair in no time.
"Let's call it a night eh?" suggested Edison. He'd been at work all day and he was truly exhausted. Plus he needed to check in with Charlie.
"Sure," said Alex, getting up to gather his things. "And thanks again for letting me in on this case. I know interns don't usually get to work on cases this big. I'm really grateful to have this opportunity to work with and learn from you Mr. Davis."
Edison stood up as well and shook his hand. "It's been a pleasure Alex. You really are an intelligent person, you'll be a great lawyer one day. Just stay diligent," he told him.
Alex smiled at him. "Thanks again." Edison returned his smile, before going to grab his briefcase. He thought it was time to put Alex to the test, see if he really had what it takes to make it at Davis and Davis.
"Say Alex, some of the partners and I are meeting for a boys night out this weekend. You should come, get to know the partners."
Alex looked up at him surprised. So far he hadn't heard of any of the other interns getting this invitation. He had plans with Marcus this weekend, but was this really an opportunity he wanted to pass on?
"Uh, sure, okay." He responded. "Just text me with the time and place. I'll be there."
Edison grinned. "No problem, have a great night," he said.
"Yeah you too."
As Alex walked out of the office, Edison thought to himself. He'd finally see whether or not Alex was long term material.
"We'll see if you can really prove yourself." He stated, thinking out loud.
At that exact moment his cell pinged indicating that he received a text message. It was from Charlie.
"Hey boss, I got something I think you'll wanna see."
Attached was a video. He opened the link and smiled evilly. This day just got a whole lot better.
Fitz was so busy, between his case with Jacob and other potential clients coming in, he barely had any time to himself. He was definitely looking forward to winding down later with Olivia.
But before he could think of that. He had an important lunch date he had to attend. He'd been putting it off for a few weeks now. But he finally managed to schedule some time in his busy schedule for her.
He made his way past security and showed his pass. He was escorted up to the residence where his mother was sitting at a dining table waiting for him. Once the secret service did their usual scan of him, he walked over to his mother and gave her a hug.
"My baby boy," she greeted smiling at him. She held his face in her hands and squeezed his cheeks.
"Mom," he groaned playfully.
She motioned for him to sit down. And he did. She sat at the head of the table, while he took a seat to her immediate right.
"I got the chicken salad, I know it's your favorite," she told him. He leaned over and kissed her on the cheek.
"Thanks ma."
She smiled as he dug into his food. She took a bite of her sandwich as well. "How've you been?" She asked?
He finished chewing. "Busy, but what else is new," he joked. "I miss you and pops, where is he by the way?" He asked. Normally they'd all try to have a meal together once every week.
"He's in a meeting with his chief of staff at the moment. He might be here before we finish though."
"Good, how are you?"
She took a sip of her lemonade. "I'm fine. I am worried about you though."
Fitz finished chewing and looked at her slightly confused. "Why's that?"
"Well you've been working so hard lately. I barely get to see you. Not too mention you smelled like a whole bar at the state dinner the other night."
Fitz felt ashamed. "I'm sorry mom, I've just been going through some things in my personal life lately. But I'm getting everything figured out." He told her.
"It sure seems like it," she joked lightly. "By the way how's the senator you were flirting with that night?" She asked.
He laughed, thinking that she was talking about Mellie. "Mom I was not flirting with Mellie."
Katherine took another bite of her sandwich before she responded. "I wasn't talking about Mellie, son. I meant the other senator, the young one. Senator Pope-Davis. Gorgeous little thing. Though I do believe she's married, isn't she?" She asked knowingly.
Fitz choked on his drink a bit. His mother patted his arm. She was always super perceptive. Of course she knew he was in love with Olivia. Anyone that looked at the two of them together could tell. But like his mother said. Liv was still married.
"Uh… we're just professional friends mom. Remember I worked on her campaign when she was running for senate back in California."
"Yes darling I remember that. Gerry only has high praises for her. Bright young girl. She's doing wonderful things in the Senate. You sure do know how to pick them son!" She said, praising him.
Whether she meant that politically or personally, he wasn't sure. But before he could respond, he was receiving a call on his personal cell. He'd turned his work cell off for lunch with his mom. Everyone at the office knew where he was. So he wondered who this could be? He looked at his cell.
It was Quinn. She never called him on this phone unless it was something super important. "Uh...excuse me mom, I have to take this...Sorry."
"Go head sweetheart. But when you come back, I want to hear all about the young senator that has stars in your eyes," she told him.
Fitz laughed nervously, before getting up and excusing himself from the table.
He stepped outside of the dining room area and took the call. "Quinn what's up?" He asked thankful for the distraction.
"Fitz it's Amanda Tanner. She's dead."
"What!" He hissed in disbelief. "That's impossible. I spoke with her yesterday, she told me she'd be at the office Thursday," he said in shock.
"I know Fitz. But they pulled her body from the Potomac this afternoon. It's all over BNC right now."
Fitz rubbed his forehead trying to calm his nerves. "You've got to be fucking kidding me. Find Jacob. I'm on my way back to the office now," he told her.
(A/N: So Fitz's mom knows. And what did Charlie send Edison? Amanda Tanner is dead and the plot thickens LOL. Up next Quinn meets up with Huck again and he wonders just what he's gotten himself into. Olivia tells Abby about her plans to divorce Edison, but it doesn't go as well as she thinks. And Alex meet up with the partners for their boys night out, but it's nothing like he expected. Till next time...)
