Lena was so tired. She nearly overslept the next morning. But she knew she had much to catch up today, so she dragged herself out of her bed and into the shower. After that she ate quickly and went downstairs where her car had just arrived.

Cass did not look away from her this time, but she still addressed her by her last name and her gaze that had been warm and open these last days had morphed into a mask without feelings.

Lena sighed while taking her place in the car. She had made a mistake by not clearing that up yesterday. But just as she started to say something, her mobile phone started ringing.

It was Jess informing her that she had a day full of meetings and that there was a problem in the labs concerning the new medical device L-Corp wanted to bring to the market in just three months. When she finished giving out commands for the different department chefs at L-Corp they had arrived.

Cass brought her into the building safely and up they went. Lena wanted to start another try when her phone rang again. She cursed but accepted the call, nevertheless.

You could not just decline a call from Cat Grant after all. She liked Cat but the woman had a horrible timing. After agreeing on meeting Kara for an interview on the new hearing aid at the end of next week, they were already at the right floor.

Jess followed them into Lena´s office and directly started to bomb Lena with more information. After looking at her daily schedule, Lena nearly winced. A full day out of conferences and calls. Just 20 minutes in the middle of the day to eat.

She pushed her shoulders back and put on a slight smile shortly before the first appointment came in. She was a Luthor after all, she could do this, no matter how tired and exhausted she felt inside.

Cass still hadn´t spoken to her more than necessary. For the whole day Cass was just a shadow behind her and Lena realized for the first time, how easy the woman had been on her until now. How the light smile she had thrown Lena´s way had relaxed her during the day and how thoughtful the other woman had been. Always looking out if she needed anything.

Now she simply stood there like a piece of furniture, only moving when she had to scan a new visitor. Even when they moved downstairs for a tour through the house, Cass was just a presence behind her.

In the evening Lena was so tired, she was happy it was Friday. And as she would be working from home the next two days or with Kara, she would not need a bodyguard. When they parted ways at her house Lena nearly slept on the spot. She made it upstairs and into her bed before collapsing.

Cass was glad when she reached her apartment that evening. She had not known what else to do, then to try to appear completely indifferent to Lena Luthor now. After all it was just like Lena, no Miss Luthor, said, she was just her bodyguard and she got paid from her. That was it.

She was never good at trusting people. Her experiences showed her that trust had to be earned. But since Kara trusted this woman, she had thought it was safe to try the same. But she was clearly mistaken.

While the raven-haired woman was happy, that she had a new bodyguard that did not spy on her, she was in no way searching for a friend. Cass had reached the conclusion, that she would treat Miss Luthor like any other Employer from now on. No special treatment, just doing her job.

With that in mind Cass tried to concentrate on her book again, but her thoughts wandered off all the time. To Kara who was Supergirl, to Alex who was gay now and an agent and to Lena Luthor, a woman she could not evaluate.

She was supposed to meet Kara this weekend but there was an Supergirl emergency, and they had to cancel. After the weekend flew by the next week started just as the last had ended. She made sure Miss Luthor was safe and that was it.

It wasn´t until Friday when something changed. The morning had been as always but as noon came, the interview with Cat-Co was scheduled. Kara walked in with a bright smile and hugged Cass then went on to Lena.

Cass greeted her happily and started packing her things. Lena looked at her puzzled: "Where are you going?"

Cass turned and said: "No offence, but I don´t think someone will attack you while you are with Supergirl. I am going to the park for the duration of the Interview. Is there a problem, Miss Luthor?"

She spoke in a calm monotone voice. Lena answered hastily as she noticed the anxious look Kara was giving them: "No problem, go on."

And with that Cass was gone. Kara turned openmouthed to Lena: "What did you do? The last time I saw that look on her face was when her parents died!" A second later she clapped her hands over her mouth and said: "Shit. I wasn´t supposed to say that. Forget it."

Lena looked crestfallen: "Her parents are dead?" Kara nodded: "They died about five years ago. But please forget it, it wasn´t my place to tell. But tell me, what happened? The last time I saw you two everything seemed fine. She even told me she liked you."

Now Lena looked even more disheartened: "It was my fault. The day we went to the DEO. I needed to go back here to work even if it was already late. I told her she didn´t have to come, but she insisted."

Kara said: "Yes. What happened then?"

Lena continued with an empty voice: "I don´t know. She asked if she could help me, and I ruined it. I have no idea what made me say that, but I said something like: You are only an employee and nothing more. She was so hurt but tried not to show it. Since than we haven´t talked. I know it´s my fault. I managed to scare off one of the few people, who didn´t look at me like I am just like my family."

Kara looked at her for a second and then slowly, deliberately said: "Are you crazy?" Lena blinked at her for a second not knowing what to respond.

But Kara did not wait on an answer anyway: "I told her she could trust you. And she is normally not one to easily trust new people. And you pushed her away at the worst moment. When she offered help. Why?"

Lena exhaled slowly and tried to breath normally. She knew she had fucked up. Kara noticed the distress her friend was in and pulled her into a hug: "Oh Lena. I will always be your friend and I will always protect you. I still mean that. It´s ok. That will need some time, but we can get things right again."

The CEO sunk into the embrace: "I am so thankful that you are my friend Kara. But I know she is your friend too. It´s ok if you can´t choose a side. You shouldn´t have to."

Kara pulled back to look her in the eyes: "You said something you didn´t mean. There are no sides. You two will just have to talk to each other." She thought for a second then her face brightened: "You know what?! I have an idea. Tomorrow is game night at my place. You two will simply come an hour early. Then you can put this right. You are coming right?" Lena nodded.

Kara grinned: "Then it is decided. Tomorrow at 6 pm at my place. Now. We have an interview to do and only 20 minutes time left."

The next minutes were spent with Lena telling Kara about the new hearing aid L-Corp tried to produce. They were totally delayed. The technical parts should have been figured out by now, but she told Kara as much as she could. Exactly one minute before their time had come to an end Cass reappeared and took a stance near to the door.

Kara turned to look at her friend and her heart clenched. She knew better than anyone else, why Cass had decided to work in the military and not in an intellectual job. And now, when she was finally coming close to trying it again, Lena had rejected her even if she didn´t mean to do so.

After saying her goodbyes to Lena she pulled Cass into a hug and whispered: "She didn´t mean it. Give her a chance."

Loudly she just said: "Oh I nearly forgot, our game night tomorrow will start at 6 pm and not at 7 pm. You will be there right?"

Cass looked at her quizzically but answered nevertheless: "I will be there. Should I bring something?"

Kara smiled a sly smile: "If you have time tomorrow, you know I love your cookies…" She nearly pouted at her.

Cass broke out laughing and her face relaxed: "Fine. I will make some."

Jess entered the room: "Sorry to disturb but your next appointment is here, Miss Luthor." After that Kara left quickly and the day moved on without any major events.
