Author's Note: DESCRETION- This Chapter has some graphic descriptions.
It's the 21st of November now. KC didn't show up to art class again. I remembered the other day, and how much it killed me when she left with him… and I realized I'm in love with her. I found her ring by the trashcan. The chain was broken. I pulled my cross necklace out from under my shirt and took the cross off of the chain and placed it in my pocket. I put her ring on the chain and clipped it closed. Then, I placed the necklace into my pocket with my cross.
After Marley came back to Mr. Matthews' class, after checking on KC, she mouthed to Maya to meet her after class, then looked at Lucas, Riley, and I.
We met in the hall after KC walked away, avoiding us.
"What's going on?" I immediately asked Marley.
"When I went to check on her…" she started.
"What happened?" Lucas questioned.
Marley started getting tears in her eyes.
"Marley," Maya said, taking her hand, "tell us. Please."
Marley took a breath. I knew what she was about to say, I could see it in her eyes.
"Derrick's abusing KC," she finally said.
"What?!" Lucas questioned, angrily.
"H-how do you know," Maya asked, worriedly.
"She was covering up a bruise when I walked into the bathroom," Marley told us. "I asked her if he did it and she tried lying, but she finally told me that she can't get out of it."
"Why wouldn't she tell us?" Riley questioned.
"She's scared of him," I told her. "She's terrified."
"You said the other day that he had her pinned against the wall," Maya said, looking at me. "What exactly happened?"
"Wait, what?!" Lucas almost yelled.
"Calm down for now, Cowboy," Maya ordered him, softly. They all looked at me.
"I saw Derrick leave with her from Topanga's," I informed them. "I got a bad feeling, so I followed them."
"I noticed that," Maya said.
"I looked around, and then heard voices, so I followed the voices," I said. "I finally saw them. He had her pinned against the wall and she was sobbing. He was accusing her of pulling a stunt and she told him that she wasn't, that it was just a song. I intervened and they both lied and said it was a small disagreement… and even though I tried to get her not to leave with him, she did…"
"When was this?" Marley asked us.
"The 17th," Maya answered. "When he told me, he was freaking out, so I tried to get him to sit down and calm down. He was so worked up that he shook me off of him and I almost fell. I caught myself on the table."
"You did what?!" Lucas questioned, looking at me.
"Stop," Maya demanded. "He didn't mean to." She looked at me. I nodded my approval to her. "He started having a panic attack after it happened. I hugged him until he stopped shaking. Then he went home."
"You said KC picked that song you two you performed that day, right?" I asked Maya.
"Yeah, why?" She questioned in confusion.
"She was lying to Derrick when she said it was just a song," I said. "You took a swing, I took it hard; and down here from the ground, I see who you are."
Maya looked at me with realization.
"You tell me that you want me, then push me around," she repeated the lyrics. "She was trying to tell us…"
"How are we going to get through to her?" Marley asked.
We all stood there in silence.
"An intervention," I suggested.
"That actually sounds like a good idea," Marley said.
Katy's POV
"Hey, Jennifer, Farkle fell asleep over here," I informed her, "so, he'll see you tomorrow."
"Oh, are he and Maya having a sleepover?"She asked me.
"No, actually, Farkle drove KC home after they left the hospital, and he must have fallen asleep."
"Hospital?" She questioned me. "Why was he at the hospital?"
"Derrick, KC's ex-boyfriend tried to stab KC after she broke up with him, and Farkle stepped in the way," I informed her. "The hospital should have called you."
"They didn't," she informed me. "Wait…Why did she break up with her boyfriend?"
"He's been abusing her," I told her.
She went silent for a bit.
"That's who he was talking about," she exclaimed.
"Who?"
"Farkle," she said. "He told me that he believed that girl he knew was being abused by her boyfriend. He told me that her boyfriend had her pinned against a wall and he intervened. He told me that she was beautiful inside and out, and what was in the inside was more important than her body and that the guy didn't deserve her."
"He didn't tell anyone…"
"I think he thought it would make it worse if he did," she said. "He's in love with her. I can tell. He said he begged her to stay, to not leave with her boyfriend. He even grabbed her hand and pleaded with her…"
"He's…in love with her?" I questioned.
"I don't think he's going to tell her for a while," she said. "He knows she'll need to heal."
Around 2:30 in the morning, I heard KC scream and hurried to her room, telling Shawn to stay in bed. I stopped when I looked through the door. Farkle was already by her side. I watched for a while and saw him let her cry into his chest.
I walked back to my and Shawn's room.
"Is she okay?"
"Yeah," I said. "She's safe."
He nodded, obviously confused by my comment. He soon drifted off to sleep.
(Back to) Farkle's POV
I was driving KC and I to school (we had left a little early) when I remembered something she said at Topanga's yesterday.
He'll hurt you, Maya.
"Hey, KC?" I asked.
"Yeah?"
"How would Derrick have hurt Maya?" I realized that it may have been too soon to ask her. "Sorry, you don't have to answer if you—"
"He said that if I didn't stay with him, he'd 'make a visit to Maya after school'," she told.
"You mean…"
"He would have raped her, Farkle," she said. "I didn't want her to go through that…what I was going through."
"I…I found the underwear in your trash when I went to throw some tissues away," I admitted. "Did you…?"
"Yes, it's from a miscarriage, Farkle," she said. "I had two miscarriages."
"So, when you were in the bathroom that morning…"
"The second…" She told me. "They did a rape kit last night…he did it again yesterday…it was right before Maya texted me."
"I'm sorry," I said.
"Thank you for…holding me last night," she thanked me. "If you weren't there…you were what I needed…"
I looked at her. I stopped at a red light.
"Are you sure you want to go to school?" I questioned her. "We can skip if you want."
She started laughing. It was real. I smiled at her.
"Farkle Minkus skip school?" She got out through the laughs. "How much blood did you lose last night?"
I started laughing too.
"I'm glad to hear your laugh again," I told her, "your real one." I heard a honk and realized the light was green. I started driving again. "But I'm serious, we don't have to if you don't feel up to it."
"Thank you, Farkle," she said. "I'd rather go there instead of staying home. I need my friends."
I nodded.
"I wanted to tell you, the other day, Farkle," she said. She looked down, "but I didn't want him to hurt you."
"I wish you would have stayed," I told her. "I know you felt like you didn't have a choice, but Maya came out right after you left."
I parked in a parking spot.
"If I hadn't let go and left with him…" she said, "he would have killed you."
"What happened after you left?"
"He drove us to his apartment…" she said. "He forced me go up to his apartment and locked the door behind us. He told me I was lucky I let go when I did, because he would have slit your throat if I hadn't." She looked down, I followed her gaze and realized I had my hand on hers. I moved it off. She looked back at me. "He saw that I hesitated to let go of your hand. He threw me on the floor and grabbed a knife from the kitchen. I tried to get up but he kicked me. He put his knees on my chest and grabbed my right hand and held it down. He tried to cut my hand off, but it made me scream too loud, so he…carved something into my arm instead."
Because of me…
KC saw my face.
"No," she told me. "Don't start blaming yourself. He isinhuman."
"How could we not have noticed it?" I questioned.
"I've been wearing jackets," she said, "and I used laceration closure strips that I bought after I left, to close up the wound."
"What the hospital gave me for my stab wound?" I asked.
"Yeah," she confirmed. "I don't even know how I stopped the bleeding. I really think I should have bled out. That's usually where people cut to…" She trailed off.
I looked at her right arm. She saw me. She turned her arm around. Right between her palm and wrist was an obvious wound that was now closed. I remembered something.
"Aren't you right-handed?"
"I'm ambidextrous," she corrected. "That's why I've been able to use my left hand."
Then I saw on her forearm that whore was cut in it.
"No matter what he said to you, you will never be anything he called you," I assured her.
"I know," she said. "Unlike with Anthony, I'm not going to let myself believe it." She moved her fingers. "The strips came off this morning."
I nodded in understanding.
"I'm glad you're safe now," I told her, sincerely.
"Thank you for keeping me safe, last night," She thanked me. "You didn't have to."
"I wasn't going to let him kill you," I told her. "I care about you too much."
"Not everyone would step in the way," she said.
I looked at her.
"I'm not everyone," I said. She looked at me and let out a small smile.
"We should head into school," she said, "not everyone."
I smiled, amused.
"Yeah," I said.
