Epilogue
The sun was bright today as the youkai and human female leisurely strolled through the quiet clearing. Birds and insects could be heard singing their nature's call.
Sesshomaru took in Rin's appearance as she walked ahead of him in the empty clearing. It has been four moons now since they mated, and her belly was growing each day. They were on their way back to the village. Sesshomaru had taken his mate to a nearby village to procure new materials for her. She needed new kimonos since her belly was growing.
Sesshomaru had asked that Rin not tell anyone of her pregnancy when they first arrived back to the village after being away for over a week. He only wanted them to know at the time. Late at night when they were away from the others, Sesshomaru would gently caress her belly, taking deep inhales of their growing child's scent. Rin would smile fondly at his actions, running her fingers through his long locks. He would find her speaking to their child and rubbing her belly when she would think he was not watching. Watching her grow ripe with their child did things to his heart he thought not possible.
When Rin had reached the three-month mark of her pregnancy, she alerted Sesshomaru to the fact that it was now time to tell the others or at least Kaede since the old miko would be assisting her in the delivery and would want to monitor her thought-out her pregnancy. Sesshomaru conceded and together they both went to the miko. Of course, the miko seemed to have it figured out since she did not seem surprised in the slightest by the news, merely smiling and nodding.
The old miko insisted on performing an exam right there on the spot and according to the miko, everything seemed to be progressing along as it should. Her only advice that Rin gets plenty of sleep, not to push herself too hard, and to eat plenty of food.
Sesshomaru was a bit alarmed one day last week though when Kaede had pulled him aside while Rin was helping Sango with her children.
"My lord, Rin should be about four moons along according to ye calculations, correct?"
"Yes."
"Rin seems to be showing as though she is more than four moons. Do inu pregnancies move at a quicker rate than human pregnancies?"
"This Sesshomaru does not have knowledge of this to expand upon your questioning,"
The old miko stepped back and thought for a moment, "This is new to ye as well. Ye will keep a close eye on her and let ye know if ye has any other questions."
Sesshomaru simply nodded in acknowledgment.
Looking at his mate again, Sesshomaru did have suspicions on why her belly was growing so quickly though. It was not that Rin's belly was growing quickly but more than her belly was making room for-.
Sesshomaru's line of thought was quickly cut off by Rin's startled scream. Sesshomaru immediately jumped to where his mate was and pushed her behind him from the powerful gust of that wind that threatened to topple her over.
Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes and in a low voice said, "Mother."
Standing before him now stood his mother in her normal regal kimono with an amused look on her face.
Both stood still regarding each other, waiting for the other to break the silence.
It was at the moment that Rin decided to break the moment for both of them.
She had stepped out from behind Sesshomaru once she had seen that everything was ok, bowed low, and softly said, "My lady."
Inukimi shifted her gaze from her son to his mate, pointedly looking at her belly.
"I see seed took quickly," Inukimi stated with an arched eyebrow looking towards her son again.
Out of the corner of Inukimi's eye, she could see his mate blush.
"Once again, nothing to be embarrassed about, you accepting his seed so quickly means you can carry many more of his children in the future."
Turning so she was fully looking at Rin, Inukimi asked, "Tell me, is he treating you well? Feel free to speak plainly, I am his mother and still see fit to punish accordingly."
Rin gave a soft laugh and then answered, "He treats me very well, my lady. I couldn't ask for anything more." She emphasized this by rubbing her belly.
Sesshomaru watched his mother as she stepped over to his mate and extend her hand out towards her belly.
"May I?" Inukimi asked with softness in her eyes.
"Please," Rin answered smiling and removing her hand.
Inukimi pressed her hand gently to Rin's stomach and closed her eyes.
Inukimi wanting to see how her son and his mate were faring, decided to take a quick trip to merely spy on them. Imagine to her surprise when she was completely caught off guard when she caught two other different scents emitting from his mate. When Inukimi had decided to visit her son and his mate, she had no idea that the human was expecting.
Pressing her hand firmly to Rin's belly, Inukimi focused on sensing the growing presence in the woman's womb.
Inukimi came from a line of inu that had telepathic ability, although it was never spoken of. Her son was not even aware of her ability. While watching Sesshomaru grow as a small pup, she watched and waited to see if he ever displayed any ability but never did. He did inherit her family's poison and light whip which not been seen in several generations.
Shifting her thoughts and focusing everything into Rin's belly, Inukimi was pleased when she felt two different beings reach out to her. She felt both children moved independently from each other and could tell they were strong.
Pulling her hand back, Inukimi smiled fondly at Rin, stating, "They are both strong, like their father. Even if they are both hanyou, they will continue the inu line."
Rin not having noticed the words Inukimi used, enthusiastically began telling Inukimi of how active the baby was.
Inukimi nodded and listed as Rin was joyfully talking, rubbing her belly, and looked to see Sesshomaru staring at his mate's belly.
'Ah, he was not aware.' Inukimi thought to herself.
Sesshomaru stared at his mate's belly taking in his mother's words.
"They are both strong."
"They are both strong."
"They."
"They."
The words repeated over and over in his head.
Late at night, when Rin would fall asleep, sometimes he would push his ear against her belly and listen. He always heard one heartbeat but sometimes he swore he could hear two but thought maybe it was his imagination. The first time he heard two heartbeats, he pressed his ear harder to her belly, but then it disappeared, almost as if the child knew it was being spied on and somehow hid itself.
He could only detect one scent emitting from her belly as well. Once again, sometimes he picked up two but then it would vanish.
The full force of the fact that his mate, his wife, was carrying twins hit Sesshomaru so hard that it actually caused him to gasp out, knocking his stoic mask off showing surprise on his face.
Rin seeing her husband's surprised face, rushed over to check on him.
"My lord?" Rin asking cupping his cheek, searching his face for any clues.
Sesshomaru allowing his mate and his mother to witness his emotions, allowed a small smile to grace his face and took Rin's hand from his cheek and pressed it against her belly.
"Twins." Sesshomaru said quietly waiting for his mate to process what he just said.
"Eh?"
"Twins," Sesshomaru repeated pressing her hand harder against her belly.
Rin looked at Sesshomaru and then looked back to Inukimi. Inukimi cocked her head to the side, causing both her pigtails to fall to one shoulder, and smiled at her in reassurance.
Rin replayed the words that Inukimi spoke and Sesshomaru watched as his mate's face light up.
"OH!"
Rin ran over to Inukimi and grabbed her hands, "You said they!"
Inukimi following her son's actions allowed herself a rare treat of laughing at the human woman's reaction and answered, "Yes Rin, I said they."
Sesshomaru and Inukimi were both caught off guard when Rin suddenly hugged Inukimi, both youkai looking at each other with widening eyes.
"Thank you, my lady!" Rin said pulling back with tears in her eyes.
"It is not my seed you carry but my son's, why are thanking me you silly human?" Inukimi asked with a puzzled expression.
"For telling me, my lady. I wonder why my belly felt so full and now it explains why there was so much movement." Rin said looking down at her belly smiling.
Rin ran back to Sesshomaru, grabbing his hand placing it on her stomach, "There is two my lord! Can you believe it?! They will never be alone; they will always be by each other's side!"
Sesshomaru watched as young mate took in the happy news, giving her time to process what was just revealed to her.
"I will be on my way then."
"My lady, so soon? You only just arrived." Rin said finally calming down.
"Yes, Rin. I trust you will be well in my son's care."
Inukimi walked a few feet away and turned back to the couple, nodding at her son's stoic expression, "Have you seen the Sakura trees blossom at... sunset, Sesshomaru?"
Sesshomaru's eyes widen for a fraction of a second and then narrow, "No but I have seen the Sakura trees bloom in the... moonlight, Mother. If I recall correctly, I saw Sakura trees about a half-day journey due east from here. I believe the smell will draw you there if you are looking."
Inukimi nodded her head in understanding, "Until next time my son."
Sesshomaru and Rin blinked and Inukimi was gone.
"My lord, there are not Sakura trees anywhere near here," Rin said turning to look at Sesshomaru in puzzlement.
Sesshomaru stood silent staring at the spot his mother had just occupied.
"My lord?" Rin asked softly taking his hand and gently squeezing.
"Come, I wish to be alone with my mate for the evening."
Sesshomaru then scooped Rin up in his arms flying them away from the village leading them to the only quiet sanctuary he knew of.

Sesshomaru placed Rin gently on the hard earth of the cave. He made his way over to the few fur pelts he left behind and spread them out. He then removed his armor and swords and made his way back to his young mate. Leading Rin over the fur pelt, he gently pushed her until she was fully on her back with him kneeling between her creamy thighs, bracketing an arm on either side of her head.
Rin reached a hand forward cupping his cheek, asking "What's wrong?"
Sesshomaru turned his head so his lips could gently kiss her palm.

"Sesshomaru, will you allow me to see your youkai tonight?"
Since the first night when he took her, Sesshomaru had not allowed his youkai to come forth in fear that he harm her again. No matter how many times, Rin reassured him that she would be fine, Sesshomaru adamantly denied her request. Sesshomaru under any circumstances, would not allow any harm to come to her including from himself.
"Rin, we have discussed this. My youkai-"
"Your youkai will not harm me," Rin said gently cutting off his statement.
Sesshomaru pulled back, stating, "You do not know this."
Rin sat up following her husband's movements and gently grasped his hands placing them on her belly, "Yes I do Sesshomaru. On our mating night, you asked that I trust you when you told me that your youkai would come out to take me. I'm asking that you trust me and trust yourself now. I know you and I know your youkai. Your youkai will not harm me."
Taking a deep breath, "Please trust me, my lord. I want this." Rin implored.
Rin watched as Sesshomaru thought over her request.
Sesshomaru eternally battled on his mate's words and finally gave in. Maybe she was correct, maybe his youkai needed to come forth more often in order for him not to take her so roughly. Sesshomaru finally acquiesce to her request. He closed his eyes and allowed his baser instincts, his beast, to come forward and his logical mind just within reach.

Rin merely sat and waited as she watched her husband decide on what to do. She was relieved when she witnessed Sesshomaru leaned back and close his eyes. After a few moments, her chocolate eyes met his red eyes.
Moving slowly as not to startle him, Rin raised her hand and slowly cupped his cheek, outlining the jagged markings on his face.
"There you are," Rin said gently.
Youkai Sesshomaru growled out and leaned into her touch.
He then pulled at her obi, causing her outer robe to loosen. Rin helped removed her outer robe and youkai Sesshomaru moved his clawed hand to her small round belly, gently rubbing.
Red eyes met Rin's chocolate gaze, a growl filling the air around them.
"Your seed took hold my lord," Rin said softly, knowing that she needed to appease Sesshomaru's youkai.
Rin held back a chuckle as youkai Sesshomaru pushed his ear against her belly and then sniffed at it.
"There are two my lord, twins. Your seed is strong." Rin said feeling her face heat up.
Youkai Sesshomaru pulled back and Rin was met his hard intense gaze, she felt her center throb and grow damp. She saw him sniff the air around him and a smirk appear on his face.
Knowing that youkai Sesshomaru could most likely smell her arousal, Rin removed the rest of her robes and leaned back leaving herself fully exposed to her husband's intense hungry gaze.

It could have been the pregnancy hormones, it could have been the atmosphere of the cave around them, or maybe it was seeing her husband finally embracing his true youkai nature that did not cause any fear to overtake her.
Instead, she felt more turn-on than ever and could feel her own body's lubrication start to run down her thighs.

Glancing at the opening of the cave above him, he knew a few hours must have passed since they entered the cave. He would need to leave soon; the moon will soon appear.
Stepping into the hot spring, Sesshomaru thought back to the last thing he could remember. The last time he changed, he had remembered bits and pieces of the night but this time…he found that he could not remember anything at all. If he could not remember, then that must have meant that he truly changed into his feral youkai state which also meant he would have released his youki.
Needing to ease his troubled mind, Sesshomaru stepped out of the hot spring and made his way to his sleeping mate. Gently shaking her, "Rin, wake up."
He watched as her eyes sleepily opened, arms reaching overhead to stretch out her sore body.
"Hm?" Rin mumbled out while sitting up, the fur pelt pooling around her waist, leaving her completely bare before his eyes.
"Did I hurt you while rutting you?" Sesshomaru asked once again checking her over for any bruises or marks.
"Eh? No, of course not. I'm fine, why do you ask?" Rin said softly, fighting back another yawn.
"Honestly, you wore me out," Rin said chuckling.
"It's…" Sesshomaru started but then stopped.
Rin sensing his discomfort, reached out a hand to cup his face, "Hey, I'm ok. You didn't hurt me."
Seeing that her husband still looked uncomfortable, Rin pressed, "What's wrong?"
"This Sesshomaru does not recall anything of our rutting."
Rin pulled back, shocked.
"You do not remember anything at all?"
"No." Sesshomaru said searching her face for any indication.
He was met with her face turning red.
"Did you say anything to me in my youkai state?"
"I may have said a few things….." Rin said trailing off.
"Tell me exactly what you said," Sesshomaru urged.
Rin recounted how everything started.
"And then I said to take me opening my thighs for you."
Sesshomaru's eyes widen in surprise, "What did you say after that?"
Rin looking down, feeling embarrassed now, quietly said, "I kept my thighs open and told you to come to me."

"When Inu mate in our true youkai form, the female presents herself to her mate and then we rut. You are not Inu but what you did was close enough that my youkai fully released my youki. My youkai was so pleased that I in a way went to sleep while my true youkai took you."
Rin sat in her husband's lap, processing what was just revealed to her.
After a few moments of silence, Rin spoke, "So basically you and your youkai were both able to see me as your true mate in the same instance in both of your states and you fully trusted your youkai to take over?"
"Yes." Sesshomaru said stroking her thighs and nuzzling the side of her head.
Seeing that her husband was now at peace, Rin cupped his face, whispering, "This Rin is pleased to see her husband truly trust her to release his youkai."
Sesshomaru allowed a small smile to grace his face.
"You really did wear me out though, I lost count of how many times you took me," Rin said cheekily.
"I wouldn't mind going back to sleep."
"This Sesshomaru would like nothing more than to allow his mate to sleep but unfortunately, there is something we must do. You need to bathe."
Sesshomaru carried his mate to the spring, setting Rin down so she could step in.
"What do we need to do, my lord?"
"Bathe," Sesshomaru commanded.
Rin trusting her husband, nodded at his request.
Seeing that she was comfortable, Sesshomaru dressed and sat by the fire.
After allowing his mate time to soak, Sesshomaru brought one of the fur pelts over and called for her to exit the spring. Wrapping her in the fur pelt, Sesshomaru gently caressed her cheek, "Dress. This Sesshomaru will return shortly."
"Yes, my lord." Rin beamed at him.
Sesshomaru exited the cave to find his mother waiting for him by the nearest tree.
Sesshomaru stepped forward so he was in line with his mother, both youkai soaking in the moonlight.
"It was rumored that my ancestors sustain our powers from the moon," Inukimi said softly.
"Rumored?" Sesshomaru asked, still looking at the moon.
"Over the course of centuries, the scrolls that contain our origin have become lost. Some have been damaged due to them not being cared for properly. Now the story is passed from each generation to the next by word of mouth. Who knows how much of that is true or that the story has not been twisted or things left out?" Inukimi sighed out.
Another long silence stretched on as neither spoke.
"You did not know she was carrying twins?" Inukimi asked breaking the silence.
"I had my suspicions."
"This change everything, Sesshomaru."
"Yes."
"The other beast king…" Inukimi said trailing off.
"I am aware." Sesshomaru stated.
Inukimi turned so she fully looking at Sesshomaru, "There may be a way to protect them all, but you may not like what I have to say. This plan will be…difficult."
Sesshomaru only, "Hm."
"Let us go see your mate," Inukimi said.
Both youkai walked into the cave to find Rin sitting by the fire, gently poking at it with a small stick.
Inukimi sniffed the air around her, the scent of their rutting still heavy.
"I see why seed took so quickly," Inukimi stated arching a polished eyebrow at her son.
Hearing her voice, Rin quickly stood and came to bow to her lady.
"My lady, it is nice to see you so soon again."
Rin smiled at both youkai but soon that smile disappeared from her face at seeing how both somber the youkai looked in front of her.
"My lord? My lady?" Rin asked hesitantly.
"Rin, we need to talk. Please sit." Sesshomaru stated.
Rin did as she was told and sat back by the fire, waiting for either of them to speak.
Inukimi and Sesshomaru both looked at each other and sat as well. Sesshomaru next to his mate and Inukimi across from them.
Sesshomaru gently took his mate's hands in his, speaking softly, "Rin you are aware of the possible dangers of being my mate."
Rin nodded, squeezing her husband's hands as well, "Yes we already discussed this. I'm not leaving your side. Nothing either of you say will make me leave you. I love you, Sesshomaru."
Sesshomaru inwardly smiled, he could feel his chest swell with pride hearing his mate still adamantly insist that she would never leave him.
"I as well, my mate, but you are carrying twins, this changes everything. One child would not matter but two…..we need to be prepared for all possible outcomes."
Rin absorbed her husband's information and nodded, "I agree."
Sesshomaru turned to his mother, nodding for her to continue the conversation.
"There is another beast king, like Toga, from the east. He does not care for hanyous at all. He is our main concern. The minute your pups are born there is a high chance he will send for someone to kill them."
Both youkai heard the young woman's breath hitch and saw her lower her head, hiding her eyes.
"Why?" They heard the young human woman whisper.
"He believes a prophecy that was told to him by his sister. Although we find the prophecy could be….somewhat…..dubious considering its source." Inukimi said carefully.
"But not all hope is lost. There may be a way to ensure the safety of your pups, but it will not be easy. This may take years and to be very blunt, Rin, it will not be easy." Inukimi gently stated.
Both youkai watched the young woman, searching for any signs of distress. Sesshomaru and Inukimi gave her silence both understanding this was hard for her to accept.
"I thought we could have at least some time to ourselves to be happy," Rin asked looking up, with tears in her eyes.
Sesshomaru wrapped his mate in moko-moko, pulling her closer to his large body.
"Let us enjoy what moments we have until the time calls for our actions," Sesshomaru whispered in his mate's ear.
"Will you help us?" Rin asked turning to Inukimi with hope in her eyes.
Inukimi studied the young woman. She was not close to her son but Sesshomaru was her only son and here sat her son's mate carrying their pups facing an uncertain future. Inukimi knew in her heart that she would do whatever was necessary to provide any aid to them both.
"I will do what I can but at times it will appear that I am not helping at all. Even I must be careful considering the east beast king. He has eyes everywhere. Any help I provide must be from afar." Inukimi stated.
Sesshomaru took his mate's face into his clawed hands, "Rin, do you accept that the idea of what we have, the plan of what may work will be hard? What sacrifices we will to make? We may lose years of lives to ensure our pups survival."
Sesshomaru watched as Rin choked back a sob, placing her hands over his, "Yes, I know that you will not allow anything to happen to us though. I have faith in you, Lord Sesshomaru."
Sesshomaru pressed his forehead to her, inhaling her scent. Once her scent was deep in his soul, Sesshomaru knew they could do this.
Rin sniffled and turned back to Inukimi, asking, "What is this plan you both speak of? What do we need to do?"

Inukimi and Sesshomaru walked to the exit of the cave, leaving Rin alone with her thoughts. The woman needed time to be alone. All three had spent the entire night going over all the fine details of their plan. They needed to account for all possible outcomes however small.
"Your mate is strong, Sesshomaru," Inukimi said once they came to a stop.
"That she is." Sesshomaru said turning to look at his mother.
"Sesshomaru…." Inukimi started but then trailed off.
Sesshomaru cocked his head to the side waiting for her to finish.
"I know that I may have been…somewhat...distant to you as small pup. Looking back now, there may be things that I wish may have turned out differently but at the same time all those things have prepared you for this moment and what is to come."
Inukimi stepped closer to her son, "Know this my dear son. You have done the Inu line proud."
Sesshomaru surprised by his mother's words, "Mother-"
Sesshomaru was cut off when Inukimi suddenly turned away and took position to leave. Sesshomaru then smelled salt in the air, understanding that she would not say anything further. Knowing that this was as close to his mother ever praising him, he closed his mouth.
Clearing her throat, "I must retire for now my castle and kingdom will not run itself."
Gathering her ki cloud, Inukimi turned to look at her son one last time, "Remember Sesshomaru, I am always helping even when it appears I am not."
"Until next time, Mother." Sesshomaru said nodding his head.
Sesshomaru watched as his mother become nothing more than a dot in the dark night.
"You are still present," Sesshomaru spoke turning to find the small dark color owl sitting nearby on a tree branch.
"Coo."
"I know you understand me."
"Coo." The little owl cooed out while shaking its wings as if in acknowledgment.
"I know your kind is close to all living beings in the forest around you. Is it the same towards insects such as butterflies?"
"Coo." The little owl's head ducked its head as if nodding yes to his question.
"I may require your assistance one day in the future. Stay as you have been, you will know when the time is right."
"Coo." The little owl shook his wings and flew away into the dark forest.
Sesshomaru returned to the cave to find Rin sitting by the fire, rubbing her round belly. He came to sit beside her and pulled her, so she was tucked against his chest and he started rubbing her belly as well.
"They are very active tonight," Rin said quietly, repositioning one of his hands to where she could feel kicks happening.
Sesshomaru smiled, "They are like their mother."
Sesshomaru started rubbing his mate's back, sensing she was still in distress decided to surprise her by humming.
After a few moments of him humming, Rin asked, "What is that?"
"A song that my mother use to sing to me as a child."
"Do you remember the words?"
Sesshomaru went silent, knowing that he could not lie to mate, finally answered, "Yes, she used to sing it to me every night as a small pup. She would sometimes ask I sing with her."
Rin pulled away from Sesshomaru with excitement in her eyes, "Will you sing it to me?"
Rin was only met with Sesshomaru golden amber eyes blinking, "Please my lord? There is no one present."
Sesshomaru not being able to deny his mate anything, tucked her back to his chest and allowed the words of the song to fill the air around them.

"It's beautiful my lord but also somewhat sad," Rin said playing with moko-moko that was wrapped around her.
After a moment, Sesshomaru spoke, "I suppose it spoke about the mindset of my mother at the time."
They both sat in silence with only the soft swishing of hot spring being heard.
"Will you be alright?" Sesshomaru asked gently.
"Yes," Rin answered.
"We will get through this Rin."
"I know we will, my lord."
Sesshomaru resumed humming the old song until it lured Rin into a deep slumber. Sesshomaru continued holding his human mate, not wanting to stop the moment.
Here in this cave, they were safe from the outside world. No one knew they were here. Sesshomaru wished they could stay here for the rest of their lives with no one interfering or melding.
But such things cannot be.
Sesshomaru sighed and gently laid Rin down on the nearest fur pelt. Sesshomaru spent the rest of the early morning dawn hours just watching her sleep.
Brushing the back of his knuckles against her warm cheek, Sesshomaru vowed to his Rin, his treasured jewel, "On my life, I will do everything possible to ensure you and the safety of our pups no matter the cost."
As if sensing her husband's promise, Rin sighed and snuggled into the fur pelt.
Sesshomaru looked up and could see the early morning sun peeking in through the opening of the cave. He knew he should probably wake Rin but for now, he would allow her to sleep. He would allow her this peace before they both had to go back to the hard reality of what is to come.
The great youkai of the western lands pressed his hand to his human's mate forehead and softly said:
You are a splendid butterfly
It is your wings that make you beautiful
All of time stood still for, in that one moment, the great daiyoukai of the western lands finally understood the value of human life.

All My Little Words
I only used half the song and cut one line from the second chorus which did not match the time period. Some of you may think that it seems OCC for Sess to sing to Rin, but I believe in the privacy of only them two, anything is possible. I believe Sess would show his true self only to Rin.
If anyone is interested, I do have other ideas for our favorite couple. I do have at least two other story ideas for my Sakura universe. I also have a UA that I am actually in the process of writing. I actually stopped writing that to write this. My attention now is to go back to that story. It will take place in the same era and feature the full cast of the Inu gang and will also include a villain. At this point in time, I'm not sure how long this AU story will be, maybe somewhere between 10-20 chapters or more, and will feature lemons. This AU story will not be lemon-centric as compare to this story.
One final note, maybe one day in the future I will take requests for our couple. If I do you all will be the first to know!
