Voight approached his detective and paternally accompanied him to a free room where he could talk.
The sergeant motioned for Antonio to follow him.
The others remained in the waiting room.
Only Dawson was with Jay and the boss.
He and the boy had been friends for a long time.
It could help to make the latter feel calmer, more comfortable with him.
Once inside the room Halstead was made to sit on the small sofa in the corner and the two colleagues were seated on two chairs in front of him.
- Jay, I know it's hard, but I need to know what happened. - said the sergeant.
- I can't do it - the boy answered in a trembling voice trying not to burst into tears again.
- Jay we want to nail whoever did this to you. - Antonio asserted
And that was how the detective began to tell.
-My brother came to my house for lunch, he brought food, set the table and told me we would have a guest. That was Hayley. He had sent her to lunch. He didn't want me to be alone ...-
Having said that he began to cry out loud and between sobs he finished telling the story up to the hooded men dressed in black who had entered his house.
- Do you have any idea what they were looking for? - asked the sergeant.
The detective shook his head, then stopped.
-One of the men spoke before leaving-he said-here is the pen finally said.
- What was this Pennetta like?- asked Antonio.
Once Jay described it it was much clearer.
There was a similar pen in the precinct with some top secret documents.
The thugs had glimpsed the similar one in Jay's hand and, thinking it was the one they were interested in, had joined him at home to take it.
But the one Jay had was empty.
It was only similar in model to the one the criminals sought. Let alone if a detective took secret files home.
Meanwhile, Adam and Kim had searched Jay's apartment thoroughly for clues that might help them with the case, but they weren't as lucky as they hoped.
Anger assaulted Adam.
- It is not possible that there is nothing at all! Damn. Such a case cannot be dismissed due to the absence or insufficiency of evidence. - he said aloud.
- Hey look here, - Kim said drawing his attention.
Burgess had moved some things off the floor because he had noticed that something was as if it were glowing.
He had found a gold lighter with the initials F.N. and a scorpion engraved on it.
They finally had a proof.
Plus, Atwater had taken the bullets that hit the doctor and detective to forensics for analysis.
