[Two weeks later]
The search for Sam, the other Shadowhunters, and Jocelyn was still in full swing. Shadowhunters were being snagged from different sides, and even the London Institute was seeing issue.
"I would love to be like you guys," Simon commented as he watched Bella and Clary train together. Clary was getting better with a weapon, and she was picking up on some hand-to-hand, that Bella was able to show her, and Alec had even jumped in to help when he wasn't running the Institute. His mother was still in Idris, which Bella was thankful for the time being.
Bella made a snorting noise. "No, you don't." She said and then she got Clary in a headlock, and Clary tapped out. They took a break, drinking down some water. Bella was wearing a tight sports bra that was electric blue, and her shorts were black with the same blue striped on the side. Her hair was pushed back behind her ears, and Clary wore something similar, but hers was lime green, and her hair was pulled into a ponytail.
"Yeah, but I want to be kickass." Simon rebutted.
"You are kickass, at music." Clary pointed out.
Simon rolled his eyes, and then pushed his glasses up on his nose as they slid down. "That's not going to help the situation with the demons, and Valentine. I mean, what am I going to do, sing Valentine a lullaby?"
Clary snickered. "You could. I don't know how long it would last."
Bella smirked. "Yeah, well, count your blessings, Simon. You're normal." She was starting to fill with runes on her body. If Charlie could see her right now, he would be disappointed in all the "tattoos." Clary got her angelic rune, and had a few runes on her, but Bella went on patrols more than Clary. Castiel said that it was better to keep them separate when out in the field. It's harder for demons to pinpoint them when they're not together. Bella hadn't thought about that before.
"Bella, you're up." Jace called walking into the training room. He threw something to her and she caught it. It was a special device that Simon helped Magnus develop. Besides being a musical genius, Simon was an actual genius. He was a tinkerer for better words, and helps develop a device that could harness Warlock energy. "Stefan is heading out with you, and Alec."
"Alec is coming out to the field?" Bella asked, arching a brow. She hadn't gotten to really talk to Alec much in the last two weeks. He was extremely busy running interference with his mother in Idris, and the Clave.
"Yeah, Izzy is running point here at the institute. Damon, Dean, and I are taking the South side." Jace said.
Alec approached. "Change of plans. Bella, you head out with Dean and Jace. Damon and Stef are gonna come with me." He announced.
Bella frowned. "Everything okay?"
Alec looked at her and nodded. "Yeah. I need you to keep an eye on Dean. Jace, you're lead. Bella. Second. There are reapers crawling." He said and then turned and walked out.
Jace looked at Bella, and shrugged. They met with Dean at the elevator. Dean had been isolating himself since Sam went missing, and it worried Bella and obviously Alec, enough for him to give her second. "Okay, so we're taking the South side." Jace said, and looked at Dean. "You good man?"
"Peachy." Dean grumbled.
They were silent on the elevator ride down, and they took off to their quadrant to start their patrol around.
[South side of Brooklyn]
The night was chilled slightly, giving to the beginning of October, and Bella remembered how last Halloween, she was a normal girl in New York, going to costume parties, and just living life. Now she was part of the shadows.
"Bella." Castiel appeared with a small quake as he hit the pavement in front of them.
Bella was hardly startled anymore, but it took Jace and Dean by surprise. "Cas, I thought you were looking for Malik?" Malik was missing as well, and that was Clary's supposed guardian angel.
"I found him. He's in Hell." Castiel said.
"What? How?" Bella asked.
"I do not know. For now, I have a breakthrough with Valentine." Castiel said.
Dean looked at Castiel. "Is Sammy there?"
Castiel looked at Dean. "I'm not sure. But I do know he's on a boat of some sort."
"A boat?" Jace asked.
"Like on the bay." Bella said and then thought about this. "Water. That explains why the land tracking spells aren't working. "Cas, do you think you can get us on the ship?"
Castiel thought about this. "No. I'm unsure where the boat is, I just know he's on a boat. That's as much as I can see."
Bella was deep in thought. "So, we lure Valentine out, we tag him with Magnus' energy, and then we track him that way."
"How do you suppose we do that?" Dean asked, a little rough.
Jace looked at Dean. "Dean."
"It's okay. I understand his pain he's going through right now. We set a trap." Bella said.
Castiel tilted his head, like he was listening to something.
"Cas?" Bella asked.
"Sorry, it was my brother, he's calling me back. Bella, I'll send you a few more runes that may help you. Be listening for me." He said and then he was gone.
"He's the most useless angel I have-"
"Watch your mouth," Jace warned Dean.
Bella looked at her hand. She had Valentine's blood running through her veins. "Does anyone know how to trap a greater demon?" She suddenly asked.
"Why would we want to summon a demon?" Dean asked and turned, looking at her.
"If we can summon the demon, then I can barter with it, to help find Valentine." Bella said.
Jace shook his head. "Doesn't work like that. Greater demons are hard to control, number one, and even if you did manage to come up with some sort of deal, it often leads to turning over your soul."
"So?" Bella said. "We'll find Valentine, and find the others."
"It's not worth that," Jace said, a serious look on his face.
Bella sighed. "Jace, I have to do something, I can't just let Sam, and the others continue to suffer for God knows what's happening to them right now." She sighed. "I can do this. I will be okay."
"No," Dean said the word sharply. "No, we'll figure something else out. Summoning demons is not something Shadowhunters practice, and it's not something we want to mess with. Especially since the Clave is watching every move."
Bella's phone rang and saw that it was Simon, she answered quickly. "What's up Simon? I'm still-"
"The Institute is under attack!" Simon's voice came through to Bella, but it started turning static like.
"Simon? What? Simon!" She yelled, but the line went dead. "We have to go." She said and drew a portal rune, and opened the portal. She said, and Jace and Dean moved right with her, going through the portal first, and then she ducked in behind them. The Institute was in fact under attack. Izzy was in full out attack mode, defending the best she could. "Where's Clary?!" Bella shouted but Izzy shook her head.
Bella looked around for her sister, and didn't see her. Her serph blade came off her hip and she slashed into demons as she worked her way through. Alec hadn't made it back to the institute, and she was starting to worry about what was happening. She made it to library, where there were some demons swarming after something. Clary was trying to fend them off. The decay rune was only working so fast, and she was having a hard time. Bella sprung in to help her sister, but suddenly a portal warlock portal appeared, and out stepped a man with hair like pitch and deep emerald eyes. He looked at Bella directly, he smirked slightly, and then she looked to the warlock helping him. It was Dot. Dot was Jocelyn's friend, and she looked infected with something, and her eyes held a certain level of pain.
"I apologize for the intrusion," the man spoke. "I've only come for this." He said and then he moved his hand, a rune appearing in the air, and Bella's eyes widened, and then Clary was bound and sucked towards the man.
"Clary!" Bella screamed, and reached for her, trying to get to her, but the man backed into the portal with Clary bound and then disappeared. Bella fought off demons, as they swarmed towards her, at least ten at a time. "Clary!" Bella screamed again, and slashed threw more demons, and then a rune came to her and she drew it, on her hand, and then a large light emitted from her, and she screamed, pain radiating through her and then the light pulsed out away from her and all the demons in the room were ashes. Her legs wobbled, her heart slamming in her chest, as she looked around the room through bleary eyes. The Institute was silent now, but she could hear the blood pumping in her ears, like a roaring. Blood trickled from her nose, and the last thing she saw before she felt the darkness sweep over her was Alec's face.
[Four days later]
Bella's eyes fluttered open and she looked around. She was in the sick bay. She was alone, and she was confused at first. She sat up, looking around more. "What…" she murmured and then she got up, her legs feeling a bit like jello but she fought it, walking out of the sick bay and going to the command center. Alec turned, seeing Bella, and went to her immediately. "Hey, you should be laying down…" Alec murmured softly. "Jace, get her a chair." He ordered.
Jace moved, carrying a chair, and Alec eased her down in the chair.
"How long have I…"
"Four days." Jace responded.
"What? Clary, that man took her, I have to-"
Jace interrupted her. "We know. We're looking for her. You need to remain calm."
"How can I stay calm when my sister was just kidnapped in front of me." Bella's eyes teared up.
"We're going to find her. Valentine took her, that much we know." Alec said.
"How can you know?" Bella asked, tears rolling down her cheek, but she stubbornly kept her voice from trembling.
Alec swallowed. "Because he sent a message."
"A message?"
"He wants the Immortal cup." Jace said. "He says you know where it is, and if you don't give him the cup, he's going to start killing off the shadowhunters that he has collected, and save Clary for last."
Bella shook her head. "I don't know…I don't know where the cup is. What is this cup?" She asked, and looked up at Dean, who came into the room. His eyes softened when he saw her. "Dean…" Her voice broke a little.
Dean moved towards her, and knelt in front of her. "Bella, I'm sorry."
"He took her. Who was he?"
"I don't know…" Dean said. "I haven't seen him before."
Bella shook her head. "He could…he could use runes without a stele. He was another Shadowhunter."
Alec frowned. "You're sure?"
"Yes. He used a binding rune. He bound her and pulled her to him without a stele. I tried to make it to her, but there were so many demons…. the Institute was covered."
"The rune you used Bella, wiped out all the demons in the Institute. I got to you as you collapsed." Alec relayed.
Bella shut her eyes, pain hitting her, her head exploding, and she knew Castiel was coming, and she was right, he was like an explosion in front of her and she opened her eyes to look up at him.
"You're okay." Castiel murmured. He let out a shaky breath.
"I'm okay. They took Clary." Bella said, looking at him through tears.
Castiel frowned. "Malik can still sense her."
"He can?" Bella asked.
"Yeah, she's awake, wherever she is. I could feel you; I just couldn't get you to respond to me." Castiel said.
Bella looked at Alec. "I was out for four days after using the blinding rune."
Castiel nodded. "Yeah, it's a strong rune, but you were in big trouble. It's what I had." He explained. "As long as Malik is able to sense her, she'll be okay."
"We need to find the immortal cup, whatever that is." Bella said.
Castiel frowned. "So, his plan is to create more shadowhunters? Also with the cup, he can control more demons. Right now, the demons you see are low level ones. They are mindless ones that just follow whoever summons them. But with the cup he'll be able to control stronger demons." He explained. "He can't get that cup."
"He's going to kill the shadowhunters he has prisoner, until he gets the cup, and he's saving Clary for last." Bella relayed and then sighed. "I need to find him, and kill him. End this once and for all."
"I'll keep searching." Castiel said and then he was gone.
[Two Days Later]
Everything was so quiet. Castiel was still searching for Clary, and so far, no random dead Shadowhunters had turned up, but the demons were being quiet too. It was as if Valentine was waiting them out too. It was late when Bella started back to her room. She was exhausted from patrols, and just training in the downtime. She just was going to shower and nap for a couple hours, before she went back to the grind. She got to her room and looked up to see Alec coming towards her.
"Everything okay?" She asked, opening her door.
Alec nodded. "Yeah, I was just checking on you. How did patrol go?"
"Nothing." She said and walked into her room and Alec followed. She shut the door, and she unclipped her belt that was holding gear and she set it down in the floor.
Alec watched her move. "How are you?"
"I'm okay." She said and turned and faced him. He was looking at her, his eyes filled with concern. "I'm fine Alec. Cas is still looking for Clary, and we are and we'll find her. We just have to figure it all out. How are you holding up?"
Alec sighed. "Mother is being unbearable. I'm handling it though." He reached out and brushed some stray hair back before realizing what he was doing. "Um. Get some rest. Your next patrol isn't until the morning, so really rest, okay?" He said softly.
"Hmm. I'll take a nap for a few hours, but I don't think I can sleep too late." Bella said and sighed. "You need rest too."
Alec shrugged. "I'll sleep later. I'm in charge of this institute, I have to be on my toes. I can't take any downtime for long periods. I'll check on you later." He said and then he left her to herself.
She sighed and went to her bathroom, turning on the water in the shower, as she stripped her clothes. She heard a knock on her door, and so she pulled her towel around her, wrapping it around her tight and walked to her door and she opened it. Alec was standing there, and his eyes dropped to her chest, her towel wrapped around her tight. "Was there something else?" She asked.
"I um…"His eyes traveled to her lips, and he blew out a breath. "I don't know…" he lost his train of thought.
"Alec, you're…"
Alec swallowed. "Seeing you like this…is just…."
"Arousing?" Bella supplied.
Alec nodded. "Yeah, and I don't know what to do about it."
"Well, I told you I wouldn't temp you at all. I'm not going to do that. You should head back to command, unless-"
Alec moved inside her room, and she shut the door. His mouth connected with hers and he didn't realize how badly he wanted it.
Bella's hands moved to the hem of his shirt and she pulled it up over his head, and she moved with him towards the bathroom. "Shower?"
"Yeah," Alec said and before he knew it, they were both naked and, in the shower, now. The hot water poured over them, and her body slid against his, and he enjoyed it far more than he realized. His hands groped her breast gently, and then he lifted her, with his strong arms and pinned her against the shower wall before he slid up into her. His mouth connected with hers as he thrust up into her, feeling her tightness squeeze him sent thrills through him, and she continued to tighten around him as she climaxed, rushing over him quickly. He groaned, feeling his own climax surface suddenly, and he emptied himself before he could pull all the way out, the water slick between them. He oozed inside her and she gasped, moaning as a surprise orgasm rippled through her, massaging around his pulsing cock. Her mouth drank him in, kissing him passionately as the water fell around them.
"God Bella…" He murmured, resting his forehead against hers.
She tilted her face, kissing him softly, as he let her slide back to where her feet were flat on the ground now. They were silent as they shut off the shower, drying themselves off. She grabbed his hand, pulling him towards her bed. She got it, and he paused watching her shift under the covers, her naked body look so soft, and her runes seemed to fit her somehow, just perfect. He slid into bed beside her, and he leaned in, his mouth taking hers again, gently. He pulled her into his arms and just settled in the bed together.
"Are you okay?" Bella finally asked.
"Yeah. I think so." Alec murmured.
Bella kissed his chest, snuggling closer to him. His free hand ran down her bare back, and it sent shivers through her. She felt the fatigue washing over her and her eyes fluttered shut. She was rest for a while, and before she knew it she was sound asleep.
[Five hours later]
There was light knocking on Bella's door, and it stirred Alec. He opened his eyes, looking around. He was in Bella's room still, and she was still sleeping next to him. He slid out of bed and then found his pants, pulling them on, and then his shirt. He ran a hand through his hair, and then he opened the door to see Dean.
"Oh. Is…?" Dean was a bit confused.
"I just stopped by to check on her." Alec explained. "She's sleeping. She didn't answer the door." Alec motioned.
Dean nodded. "Ah. Well, her patrol is up soon. It's five am." He said.
"I know. I was going to wake her up, but then thought against it." Alec said.
"She's tired huh?" Dean said and sighed. "I wish she wouldn't take the whole world on at one time and let us help her. Yeah, just let her sleep, I'll take her patrol."
Alec nodded. "I was going to ask Stefan to do it, but if you want to. That would be fine as well."
"Yeah, let him rest, he's pulled double patrols lately. I'll do it. You need to rest too man. Go get some sleep. I'll check on her later." He said and slapped Alec's shoulder before walking off. Dean knew that Bella was exerting herself so much, and Alec was being stretched in all directions it seemed. He needed to take care of himself too. Leading the institute was not a walk in the park from what he could tell.
Alec blew out a breath, shutting the door behind him as he stepped out into the hallway. That could have ended badly. He pulled his phone out of his pocket, saw a few texts from Jace.
[Jace:] You must be sleeping. I knocked on your door, but you didn't answer. I got your patrol at one. Get rest mate.
A couple hours later, he received another text from Jace.
[Jace:] Just got in off patrol, you are still sleeping. Izzy and I are taking point in the command center. When you wake, come find me.
Alec sighed and then put his phone back in his pocket and walked towards command. He got there, to see Jace and Izzy, like in the text. "Hey, sorry guys." He frowned.
Jace looked at his friend. "It's okay. You haven't slept well in a couple weeks. You needed it. Iz and I handled everything. Dean just left out on patrol. I take it Bella is still sleeping?"
"Yeah, I just…I just checked on her." Alec said and looked at the monitors. "I figured she could use the rest."
Jace nodded in agreement. "She does. I'll check on her in an hour. See if she's alive." He said with a smile.
Izzy smiled and looked over at Alec. She wasn't going to tell anyone about her seeing him go into Bella's room last night, and him not leave. If her brother managed to find happiness, then she was happy for him. She just hoped that he knew what he was doing.
A couple hours later, Jace left the command center to go and check on Bella. He knocked on her door, and called her name.
Bella stirred, moving her arms and legs. The bed was empty beside her, which meant Alec left already. She looked at the time and realized she slept past her patrol time. She got out of bed quickly, pulling on clothes really fast, and she smoothed her hair.
Jace frowned. "Bella? You okay?" He heard movement in the room.
Bella opened the door suddenly. "Yeah. Sorry, I just woke up. I missed patrol. Why didn't anyone wake me up?"
"Alec said he was going to let you sleep. He said he checked on you earlier, but you were still sleeping. Dean took your patrol. It's okay. No worries." Jace explained.
"Oh. Alec checked on me this morning?" She asked, raising a brow.
Jace nodded. "Yes. Are you okay?" He asked, seeing how flushed she was.
"Yeah, I just woke up, and was a bit disoriented. I don't think I've slept like that in a while."
Jace smiled a little. "Well, you needed it. You can take next patrol, Dean is running double patrols, so you'll hop back on with him, when he checks in."
Bella nodded. "Will do." She said and blew out a breath.
"Are you sure you're, okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." She said with a nod.
Jace reached up, placing the back of his hand to her forehead and she stilled. "You're not running a fever. Your cheeks are flushed."
"I just woke up." She said and then moved past him, out into the hallway. "I'm going to grab something quick to eat." She said and left Jace standing in the hallway and made her way to the kitchen.
Jace just shook his head and went back to command. "She's up. Getting food." He relayed.
Alec nodded, and pulled his phone out. "Okay, she's taking next patrol?"
"Yes, unless you have something else planned for her." Jace said.
"No, that's fine." He said and put his phone back in his pocket. He left the command center and walked towards the kitchen. He saw Bella grabbing a meal bar and making coffee. He walked up behind her. "Hey."
Bella startled and turned, looking at Alec. "Sorry I overslept."
"It's fine. I…overslept too." He murmured.
"When did you leave this morning?" She asked, her voice low.
"Five. Dean was knocking on your door, so I…came up with an excuse." Alec said and sighed. "I really didn't mean to fall asleep. I don't know why…last night."
Bella smiled. "Hmm. Well, you needed rest too. I'm just sorry I messed up the patrol schedule. I have next patrol, with Dean's double." The coffee pot beeped and she went and grabbed her cup, and lifted it to her lips, blowing slowly on it before sipping it.
"Yeah. If you're okay with that."
"Of course." Bella said and then she set her coffee down and suddenly Castiel was there. It startled Alec, but it didn't startle her. She was used to him randomly appearing now.
"I found the ship." Castiel relayed. "It's in the bay, not far off from the docks. It's just cloaked."
Alec looked at Castiel. "You're sure?"
"I'm positive."
"Can you get us on the ship?" Bella asked.
Castiel nodded. "I can."
Alec looked at Bella. "I'll recall the other shadowhunters on patrol. We're going to gear up and move on out."
The three of them joined Jace and Izzy back in command, and Simon had made it to command now.
"Castiel found the ship. Recall all the other shadowhunters. We need to get ready to move now before Valentine figures out we know where he's at." Alec ordered.
It got suddenly noise in the command center as people bustled about. Dean made it in off the elevator, along with Damon, Elena, and Caroline.
"You found them?" Dean's deep voice rang out.
Bella looked to Dean. "We did. We're getting ready to ambush." She said. Dean seemed like he was relieved that they found the ship, but she could still sense his nerves. She reached a hand out and took Dean's hand in hers. "Hey, it's going to be okay. I will get him out of there. Sam is okay."
Dean looked at her, looked into her dazzling eyes. He was always so enthralled with them. He nodded to her, swallowing. He knew that she would do everything to get his brother back. He also knew that she would give up her life if necessary, but he wouldn't let her do that. He was a lot of things, and he knew that he pushed her away, with what happened at Pandemonium with the blonde chick, and he was sorry for that. He only wished that she would give him another chance, but he felt like he would probably screw that up as well.
Castiel looked at Bella. "You need to get in, and get out fast. We're not going to have a large window of time. The portal I open will not last long, and in order to get in and out without them following you back, it is the only way."
"I understand." Bella said, and she readied herself.
Alec put a hand on her shoulder, and she looked up at him. "You come back. Do you understand?"
"Alec I- "
"You have to make it back Bella. I can't…" He murmured, looking at her and swallowing. He wanted, so badly, to just kiss her right here and now, but he couldn't.
"I'll come back." Bella said with a nod, and then Alec moved his hand away.
Castiel waited, looking around at the room. There were a dozen of them going in, he remembered their faces, so he knew who all had to make it back out. He would make sure he got them all out. "Okay. Get ready." He said out loud, and then he ripped open a portal, and watched as everyone disappeared through the portal.
Bella landed and rolled, and looked around. They were on a carrier of some sort. It was large, and there were men walking around. She spotted the man that took Clary, and that was her focus. "He's the one who took Clary." Bella said to Jace.
They were suddenly attacked, and the battle started.
Valentine turned his attention to the shadowhunters that appeared on his ship. He cursed, looking to Jonathan. "Go and fight your sister." He said and then he started down the stairs to go down below.
Jonathan grinned and then he flew towards Bella. Jace intercepted him, fighting him back. "This is a family issue Jace Wayland, you're not welcome in this fight."
"Bella isn't your family." Jace said through grit teeth, holding Jonathan off.
"Ah, but she is. I'm her brother. Dear ol' Jonathan." He grinned, fighting Jace.
Bella saw Jace fighting the man, and she focused her attention on Valentine, when he ducked down, going down below to where she figured he was keeping the hostages. She focused, a rune coming to her, with Castiel's help and she drew the rune in the air, and she teleported quickly over to where Valentine disappeared down below. She jogged down, and then she avoided a strike from a man, and she struck back. She nailed him in his side, and then she took her blade across his chest, and shoved him backwards off the stairs. A few other guys were like that, but she managed to hold her own.
"Valentine," She called out when she saw him. She just knew that was Valentine.
Valentine turned, looking at his daughter. She was fierce looking, and it reminded him so much of how Jocelyn looked. How fierce she had once been. "Ah, my dear daughter. How nice of you to join me."
"Where is Jocelyn? Where is Clary?" Bella said, her eyes focused, and her senses hyperaware.
"They're fine. Just having a family reunion. Did you meet your brother?"
"Brother?"
"Jonathan. He brought Clary back to me. I was hoping we could have a better reunion, but time is getting short." Valentine said, his voice was smooth, cool reminding her of what a snake would sound like if one could speak.
Bella didn't let that bother her. "Your time is getting short. Return them to me. All of them. You won't win."
"That's where I believe you are-"
Bella charged Valentine, and went into full hand-to-hand with him. Valentine was not as fast as she was, but he was stronger, his hits hurt more, but she ignored it, going steady against him. She didn't care that he was her father. She didn't want a father like him, and she hated him. She actually hated something on this earth.
Dean fought his way down below where he found Bella fighting Valentine. "Bella."
"Dean, find the others." She said, her foot coming across like she was going to do a sidekick, and Valentine dropped his hands to block but she came across with a round house kick instead, and that knocked Valentine off guard. She took the device from her side that contained Magnus' magic, and she busted it on Valentine like it was a grenade, and the warlock energy locked him in place.
Valentine's eyes were wide. He hadn't anticipated this. He didn't know how strong she was, or that she was able to do the things she was capable of. He underestimated her.
"Dean, go now." She said, and she looked straight at Valentine. "You….you're not going to survive this next part." She grit out.
Dean looked at her, hesitating, but he left, running down the hall, looking in different places, until he managed to hear voices, familiar voices. He opened a door, looking inside. "Sammy."
"Dean, you did find us." Sam said, his voice hoarse. "Dean looked around, spotting Clary. "Clary."
Clary raised her head, looking up at Dean, her face was tired looking, her face stained with tears. "You made it."
"I did." He said, and pulled his stele out. "Clary, can you do the rune?"
Clary nodded weakly. "He took my stele. I can't do runes like Bella can. I need the stele."
Dean nodded, handing her his stele, and Clary took it, drawing the portal rune, and the portal opened. He helped everyone through the portal quickly, taking extra care with the unconscious Jocelyn, and then looked at Clary. "Go, I have to go help Bella."
Clary nodded, walking through the portal and closed behind her.
Dean ran out of the room, finding Bella with Valentine still. She looked at her watch and then her eyes met his. "Bella."
"Dean, take cover." She said, and then she drew a rune. It wasn't one that he recognized, but he knew that it would be big.
Valentine tried to free himself, but the warlock energy had him stuck. "Bella, I am your father." He roared.
"No…. No, you're not." Bella said, and then she flicked the rune, and it flew at Valentine, wrapping across his face. He let out a blood curdling scream, and the inside of the ship started to vibrate.
Dean rushed to Bella, his arm hooking around her waist. "Come on."
Bella looked at Valentine. "Enjoy Hell." She spat, and then she ducked up the stairs with Dean, and rushed towards the portal Castiel was ripping open.
Everyone rushed the portal to get out, Jace threw a sword through Jonathan, rushing the portal and jumping through, Dean was the next to last, and then Bella was right behind him, but Jonathan grabbed her foot, and she turned, and he pulled her towards him.
"Bella!" Castiel yelled out. "I can't keep the portal open long."
"Go!" Bella yelled, and parried Jonathan's blow. The deck rocked beneath them as the rune she used to destroy Valentine was activated. It knocked them off balance, but she got to her feet smoothly. Jonathan thrust a sword out at her, and he missed as she side stepped, and swung her telescoping staff from her waist, striking out at him.
"I'm your brother!"
"I don't care!" She yelled back. She figured he was lying, her brother was dead, killed in the fire Valentine had caused.
Castiel groaned and looked to Bella. "Bella!"
"Go Cas!" She yelled back, swinging her staff around again. She would stay and fight until the end.
Castiel looked at her, his green eyes shone with concern, but he had to let the portal close, him with it. He was using a lot of his essence to continue holding on.
Bella growled, stabbing out at Jonathan. "You will die with Valentine."
"So will you."
"It was worth it." She yelled as she continued her fight with Jonathan, her muscles quaking as she struggled to keep up the fight.
[Back at the Institute]
Castiel looked around the room as he stumbled in. Dean's hands caught him. "Where is she?" Dean's voice was rough, worried.
Castiel shook his head. "She didn't make it through the portal. She's fighting her brother on the top deck."
"We have to go back for her." Jace roared.
"It's too late." Castiel said. When he said that, the Institute shook violently, and some people toppled over, others were able to hold themselves up.
Alec looked to the monitors. "What was that?" The cameras panned around, showing the bay, and the ship that exploded and was now visible. It was blow to bits. Alec's hands went up, brushing through his hair. "Oh god."
Castiel shut his eyes. "I couldn't hold the portal any longer."
Clary's lip trembled. Bella was still on the ship and it just exploded, with her on it. "No…"
Suddenly the elevator opened, and Bella stumbled through it. Alec was the first one to react since he was closest to the elevator. He caught her and she hit his chest with a thud.
"Bella!" Her name whooshed out of him, and his hands framed her face, forcing her to look up at him. Her eyes were tired, and she was in pain, but he couldn't stop himself now. He leaned down, his mouth covering hers as he pulled her tight. "You're okay." He murmured, his hands smoothing her hair away from her face. "You're okay." He murmured again, and then he just hugged her to him, her body was shaking.
"Alec." She murmured. "I need to lay down." She said, and then her body fell more, and his arms caught her with ease, and he swung her up, and carried her. "Move." He ordered when people just stared in shock. They moved out of the way, and he carried her to the sick bay, laying her on a bed. "Where does it hurt the most?" He asked, ripping her shirt open on the front to look her over.
"My side." She said, wincing as his hands traveled over her, looking at the damage from the knife wound.
Alec took his stele from his pocket, and activated her healing rune, and he looked at her face. She had blood covering her. He watched the relief wash over her when the healing started. He moved his hands up to her face again and brushed her hair back. "The ship exploded." He murmured. He leaned in, and kissed her again, he hadn't realized that a tear slipped down his face.
Bella kissed him back, and then looked up at him, smiling a bit. "Hmm. Well, after Jonathan impaled me, I used the binding rune, and I took a portal off the ship to right outside the institute. I didn't want to portal inside the institute just in case…he managed to follow. I didn't want anyone to get hurt." She said, and then reached up, wiping the tear off his face. "Why are you…Alec…you kissed me in front of everyone…"
"I don't care." Alec let out a shaky breath. "Bella, I'm falling in love with you, and I can't stop it. I can't explain it, but I just am. I'm sorry if- "
"Alec, breathe." Bella said softly. "It's okay. I'm okay." Her eyes searched his.
Alec nodded, and then leaned down, his forehead against hers. "How are you feeling?"
"Better."
Jace stood in the doorway. He ordered everyone back, telling them to give space. He didn't want everyone just watching Alec, and gawking at what just happened. His best friend, his parabatai, his brother…. he was in love with Bella. He cleared his throat.
Alec looked up at Jace, and then closed his eyes. "Jace…I…"
"It's okay. Bella, are you okay?" Jace asked, looking at her.
Bella sat up, Alec helping her. "Yeah…much better."
"That's good." Jace said with a nod. "Alec, are you okay mate?"
"I can expl- "
"I don't want you too. You love Bella, it's clear. I didn't know this was going on, but I understand why you wanted to keep this…secret." Jace said with a nod.
Alec swallowed. "I…" He looked at Bella. "I don't know when it started, and it's been a short time…as shadowhunters, our life expectancy…"
Bella looked at Alec. "It's okay Alec." Her hand covered his. "It took me by surprise too." She smiled. It was fast for Alec to develop feelings for her, and she had to remind herself, that Shadowhunters didn't get the luxury of taking a long time to court someone. She cared for Alec, she really did, but it wasn't on the same level yet. She didn't grow up with this life, and she had been burned before by Edward, and so she had a harder time with her emotions, but she was willing to try…for Alec. If that's what he wanted. What he confided in her before, she was sure that he was confused, but today, he put all that out of his mind and had jeopardized his position because of her.
Jace nodded. "Well, you should talk to your mother before she gets wind of this."
Alec sighed. "I know." He looked at Bella. "I'm so sorry."
Bella leaned up and kissed him, to stay his worry. "I'm fine. Tell your mom." She laced her fingers with his. "Let's just make it official." She murmured. She was taking a leap of faith here. She had to move forward in her life if she wanted to make changes.
Alec just looked at her, wonder filling his eyes. He didn't see this coming. He didn't know what to say, or to do, but he just nodded. He leaned in, kissing her softly.
