(Nagi's perspective)
"Eh? You want to have an outing?" I asked as I sip my afternoon tea. Sakuya paid an unexpected visit in the mansion.
"Yeah! We haven't been together since the school field trip; I think we should have a get together at the beach! the others already agreed to it too"
"Really? The beach in November?"
"Why not!?"
"Pass" I stood up and proceeded to exit the room, "Hey! where do you think you're going!?"
I closed and locked the door to which Sakuya kept banging and begging for me to release her. Really now, I just want some time to play my video games but it seems that they're not allowing that to happen. Last weekend I had to go to Kaito's place and now an outing? and what's worst is that out of all the places they decided on the beach! I leaned my back against the door and ignored Sakuya's ruckus banging when Hayate appeared holding a tray of tea and cookies.
"Ojousama, I think you should go with them. I mean, it would be nice to spend some time with our friends again" Hayate said while he set the tray to the side.
"How do you know that?" I asked nonchalantly, "Hinagiku already informed me about it after school"
I gave the idea of a beach trip a long thought, seeing Hayate also wanting to come made it even more hard to refuse, I guess it would be a good opportunity to spend some time with him.
"Finee" I opened the door which made Sakuya plummet to the ground.
I can't believe I agreed to do this. We are now walking on the beach finding a good place to settle. I suggested we just use the beach inside the mansion grounds, at least we could have adjusted the temperature, but they said it would be "unnatural" and it would be just swimming in a pool. But isn't the ocean just a big pool with salt and marine life?!
"This looks like a good spot!" said Hamster, she began setting up the chairs and tables while Hayate lended her a hand. "Hey! A little help here!?" We turned around to see an exhausted Wataru fully loaded with bags and baskets. Behind him, Izumi was carrying a tower of towels which blocked her view causing her to bump on Wataru.
"Hey! Watch out!—"
They fell to the ground, bags and towels everywhere, everyone laughed it off and surprisingly I did too. I guess I'll enjoy this after all..
Maria and Hayate started the grill and began making our meals. The others are already in the ocean splashing while the three idiots are building sandcastles. And as for me, I'm just relaxing in the lounge chair reading manga. I dare not to join the others in the water for it is too cold, that's why I prefer staying here where it is nice and dry. "Ojousama, shouldn't you go join the others?" I looked up from my manga and saw Hayate handing me a glass of juice.
"The water is too cold, I'll stay here" I took the glass from him and gave it a sip. When I was about to go back to my reading, Hayate took my manga,
"Hey!—"
"Maybe you should have a little walk on the beach then? You can collect some beautiful shells too, after that I'll give this back to you"
I stared at him with frustration, I plan on fighting back and try to retrieve my manga but what's the point when I know I'll just lose.
"F-fine!"
I strolled around the sand and felt the cool breeze blowing. My long hair and white dress gently danced with the wind. Closing my eyes, hearing the calming waves crashing to the shore. Along my stroll, I found a very pretty shell that shined from the dim light of the sun, I bent down to pick it up and admire it. The sun shining upon the shell suddenly disappeared when something blocked it. I looked up to see what it was but I was only surprised,
"Kaito.. what are you doing here?" I stood up and brushed the remaining sand off my dress. When he was about to respond to my question, Sakuya called at us.
"Kaito-kun! I'm glad you could make it!"
"You invited him?" I asked, Sakuya approached us and gave Kaito a handshake, "Of course! I heard he's new at school so why not invite him and get to know each other"
"Food is ready!" Maria called us to eat and Everyone started gathering, "You arrived just in time, Kaito! C'mon!" Sakuya dragged us to where everyone was and we began feasting on the delicious food Hayate and Maria prepared for us. The rest of the day went pretty well, we ate delectable food, played beach volleyball, laughed and made enjoyable conversations, and we even had a sandcastle building competition.
"Hey! let's have another game!" Izumi excitedly shouted, "Whoever lasts longer in the water can push Hayate in too!"
"Eh!? Why am I involved in this?" Hayate confusedly exclaimed, Everyone seemed to agree with the reward while Hayate was scared for the outcome of this game.
"You join too, Kaito-kun!"
"Oh, I don't think I'd—" and before Kaito could finish his sentence, he was already dragged to the ocean. Of course, I'm not joining, I don't even know which of them will be able to stay there for so long. Maybe Hinagiku, considering her "hates to lose" attitude she's bound to win this.
No longer than a minute I see Kaito heading back to shore, "Out already? Too bad, you lost the chance to push Hayate in too" I said with a chuckle,
"The cold isn't much of a friend to me. I didn't even had time to change clothes before I was suddenly dragged with them, now it's dripping wet"
To my surprise he took off his shirt revealing his chest, he didn't even gave a heads up! I turned around with my cheeks a slightly pink color. He squeezed the water out of his shirt and laid it in the chair to dry off. Even though I have my head turned, I could still see a glimpse of him, and whatever I saw made me look back again. As my eyes traced his bare back, all I could see was scars. I can see scars in his back. He puts on a new shirt and dried off his hair with a towel.
"Where..did you get those?" I was hesitant to ask that question, but it really got me curious.
"I guess you saw"
"Just..a little bit, but I wasn't peaking or anything! It just so happens you were in my view!"
He laughed a little, he hanged his towel to dry and stared at everyone in the ocean splashing around, there was a silent pause. The lack of words between us made this silence unsettling.
"It's normal for people to get punished by their wrong choices.."
I didn't know how to respond, I stared up at him and I can see him zoning out, he then suddenly turned his gaze to me which caught me by surprise.
"I-I heard they're setting up a bonfire...I'm gonna go help them out" I heard him stutter a bit as he said his last words before he left off.
I watched as Kaito walked away. My heart kind of shatters for him, what have caused him to gain those scars? Should have I not asked him something personal? Kaito.. I wonder what happened to your past.
