I went a little mad last night and somehow managed to write three whole chapters, I hadn't even noticed until this afternoon, so here's the third one. Enjoy!
With help from Scotty, McCoy's chest wound was soon wrapped up. The Doctor thanked him for his help, saying he knew how nervous he must have been doing this types of thing. Scotty soon stood up from where he had been kneeling, "Where are you going?" Questioned McCoy. "To put a stop to this once and for all, I'm done cowering in a corner while I watch my friends get hurt." Scotty replied as he grabbed his phaser from his belt, McCoy just stared at him. "Are you out of your god dam mind?! If you go out there, that thing will kill you!" Scotty turned to face him, a small smile on his face. "I'm willing to take that risk Doctor." McCoy gasped quietly, "I won't let you kill yourself Scotty!" He cried as he attempted to stand up, but felt someone force him to sit back down. "You're in no condition to be doing anything except resting." McCoy sighed loudly, "Well this makes a change, normally it's me who's forcing you to take it easy, not the other way around." Scotty chuckled at his friends remark.
"There's always a first time for everything." McCoy smiled faintly, he then handed something over to Scotty. It was his phaser, "Take it, as Jim said, 'The more fire power the better' and for once I think he was right." Scotty smiled as he took the phaser from McCoy's hand. "Thanks, it will definitely help." Scotty then walked over to Delta and knelt in front of him, "You stay here and look after the Doctor lad. He'll need your help with looking after Keenser too." Delta nodded slowly. "OK, but please come back." Scotty gently patted the robot on the head, "Don't worry, I'll come back lad, promise." After reassuring his digital friend, Scotty walked over to the door and took a deep breath, all while repeating what Lexie had said over and over in his mind. "There's nothing to fear but fear itself." Scotty soon stepped out of the door, leaving his friends behind.
Supressing his fears to the back of his mind, Scotty pressed on. He was determined to rid the outpost of that giant arachnid, even if he did hate Delta Vega it wasn't fair to let it continue tormenting every officer that was stationed here. Enough was enough and since he was the only person left who was actually able to make a stand, it was his responsibility, well he felt like it was anyway, Scotty was sure that the others would say different. Not only did he have to eliminate the spider, Scotty also had to find the others. He knew they weren't dead, they were just being held somewhere. But knew that finding them would come in time, first he had to think of a plan on how to get rid of the tarantula. Scotty knew that they didn't particularly like the cold, so he believed if he could lead it outside it would die relatively quickly, due to how cold it was out there. The big question was, how was he going to get it outside? Scotty came to a solution, he would just have to be bait. "Well… I guess I'll be doing a lot more running." He said out loud as he wandered into the cargo bay, Scotty just stood still waiting for the spider to come to him.
Several minutes passed and still there was no sign of the tarantula, Scotty didn't want to go looking for it as he wanted to stay relatively close to the cargo bay door, as it was the only one big enough. But as even more time past, Scotty started to believe that he had no other choice but to go and find it. That was until something began to drip from the ceiling, when it hit the floor it sizzled as it burned through the ground, creating small wisps of smoke. Scotty felt his heart begin to race and his hands start to shake out of fear, but he wouldn't let it control him. There was too much at risk. Slowly Scotty looked up to see the ceiling coated in thick cobwebs and sat dead in the centre of them was the tarantula, its many eyes staring deeply at him as more acidic venom dripped from its fangs, some of which came very close to hitting him. Almost immediately Scotty fired at it, if it wasn't going to attack him before, it sure was going to now. It leapt from the ceiling directly in front of him and hissed, spitting its venom everywhere. Scotty didn't want to wait around for it to attack him, so he just took off running and the tarantula followed closely behind him.
Scotty slammed his fist against the button which opened the cargo bay doors, he turned to make sure that the tarantula was still chasing him. However it was a little closer than he originally expected as he had to dodge out of the way as it lunged at him, Scotty landed in the soft snow which he was happy to see (for once) thankfully still on his feet. He fired several more shots at the arachnid, just to make it even more angry so it would have no choice but to follow him. Which it did without hesitation, much to Scotty's surprise. He was just praying that this species of tarantula was actually effected by the cold, otherwise he was going to be in deep trouble. "This is going well…" Scotty thought to himself as he swiftly tracked across the fresh snow, much to his delight it was only snowing lightly which meant he could just concentrate on the monster chasing him and not the fact he couldn't see where he would have been walking.
Scotty glanced over his shoulder hoping to see the tarantula slowly weakening, however it was doing nothing of the sort, it didn't seemed to be affected by the cold, much to Scotty's dismay. "You've got to be bloody kidding me?!" He cried, Scotty grabbed hold of McCoy's phaser and along with his own he fired, but nothing happened. So Scotty opted for a different approach, run like hell and hope that the cold would kill it off, eventually. Scotty was running further and further from the outpost, but he didn't care, he just wanted to keep the tarantula from heading back into the building. But it seemed like it didn't have any ideas of going back to the outpost, as it was still chasing Scotty and was gaining on him. Clearly it hadn't been too impressed about the Scotsman firing at it.
The Scotsman wasn't the most athletic person which he didn't mind, but on this occasion he wished that he was. "I swear to god, if this bloody spider turns out to be immune to the cold, I'm gonna be really miffed!" Scotty cried as he vaulted over a large chunk of ice, which brought back a few memories of his days here. But he didn't have time to reminisce, he was still on the run. Besides, there was only one thought swimming around in his mind, who would succumb to the freezing temperatures first? The giant arachnid or himself. Scotty hoped it wouldn't be him, but he was starting to feel its effects, even with his thick clothes. He was never big on wintery weather even before he came to Delta Vega, but his time spent here only worsened his hatred of it. People believed just because he's Scottish that he was unaffected by cold, since most people believed Scotland is always cold (they're not far wrong) but despite this Scottish people sadly were not.
"I'm gonna end up with hypothermia again at this rate!" He muttered angrily to himself, it was only several months ago that he had recovered from a mild form of hypothermia after a terrifying accident involving one of the ships water tanks, so Scotty knew that McCoy wouldn't be too impressed if he managed to get it again, but at least this time, it would be understandable. Scotty turned around to see how far behind the tarantula was, only to see it launch a web from its mouth. However when it connected with Scotty it didn't simply wrap around him like before, the whole thing was frozen solid so it just crashed into him and he went down like a ton of bricks. Scotty fell face first into the snow which wasn't too bad since it did give him a soft landing, but boy was it cold on his already frost bitten face. He rolled over onto his back to see the spider slowly approaching, Scotty just froze in place.
Staying as still as he possibly could, Scotty believed that the spider wouldn't be able to see him as most spiders react to movement, well the ones back on Earth did anyway. But sadly, Scotty wouldn't be so lucky, it was almost as if it had infrared vision. The arachnid jumped at him, thankfully Scotty managed to roll out of the way just as the spider's sword like legs dug deep into the snow. "It has acidic venom, can handle sub-zero temperatures and infrared eyes! What kind of bloody hell spawn is this thing?!" Scotty complained as he looked back over at the tarantula, just in time for it to kick a huge wave of snow right in his face. It felt like hundreds of tiny knives were piercing his face when the snow hit, Scotty muttered as he wiped the snow away from his eyes so he could see, however he instantly wished he hadn't even bothered. All he saw was the tarantula's fangs coming straight for him, Scotty managed to roll out of the way but he rolled down a verge. When he reached the bottom he hit his head on a chunk of ice, Scotty instantly realised that he had reopened the wound that he had gotten earlier in the day. "Just great…" He stuttered as he winced at the pain that was searing in his head, Scotty had enough to deal with already without having to deal once again with a head wound. His vision was also now a little blurry, which wasn't great since Scotty really wanted to see. Scotty gently shook his head, trying to get his vision back to normal but instantly regretted it since his head was now hurting even more.
"Just don't look at your own blood, this is no time to faint." Scotty said to himself. As his vision slowly returned he looked up to see the arachnid mid-air as it lunged at him, only this time Scotty didn't have time to move, even if he did, there was nowhere for him to go. So Scotty just closed his eyes and waited for his fate. But a deafening roar made him open his eyes and he was in complete shock at what was unfolding before him. There was a Hengrauggi, another one of Delta Vega's native species attacking the spider, clearly it wasn't a big fan of the gigantic arachnid either. Normally Scotty despised being anywhere near a Hengrauggi, but since it was actually helping him at this moment in time he wasn't going to complain. So he just laid still in the snow and watched the fight unfold before his eyes, hoping that the Hengrauggi would get rid of the spider for him. It wasn't long until the tarantula fell lifeless onto the snowy ground, causing a cloud of snow to rise into the air. Almost instantly its body froze over, turning it into an ice sculpture. Scotty was thankful that it was finally gone, however he now had a new problem, that being the Hengrauggi which had turned to face him.
