Four Months, 2 Weeks Later...
Aizawa wasn't kidding when he said his teaching was bad.
He sucked.
A Lot.
But Izuku was able to help him push past his faults, and taught him that no matter how he taught, Izuku could follow. So Shota simply gave Izuku hell. He began teaching him the most advanced curriculum he believed Izuku could manage at his age, but had to do better. He was teaching Izuku the necessities of Heroes, virtues, and history. He soon came to realize that no matter what academic heroics he taught Izuku, he would endure. All the information he poured into the kid became like a river crashing into a pond of knowledge.
So he used that to his advantage in his horrible lessons. He made sure Izuku was up each day at 5:30, before he was, and did chores. Their new house didn't just magically stay clean, anyway. Izuku would sweep, dust, and clean the house, and was tasked to finish it before noon, around the normal time Aizawa woke up. He was to also prepare his own food when he woke up, and had three rules given to him by Shota.
1. Not to wake Aizawa.
2. Finish all cleaning by noon, and any free time to be used for either self-study, or workout.
3. Do NOT, under any circumstances, practice with his quirk without Shota's supervision.
All three were easier than Izuku thought. He realized that cleaning was limited to hand tools, because anything like a vacuum would wake the night hero up, but their house wasn't as big, and rarely got messy. He always finished his cleaning by around 9, which gave him 3 hours of free time. In this time, he didn't practice his quirk, but rather he trained his body. He knew that he'd be stronger with the arm the Hatsume's were making, but he needed to make sure he could fight if it ever got destroyed.
It was nearing the end of the second week of October, and he was doing his regular training when his alarm went off, right at 11:45. He set it like that so he'd have time to take a shower, clean the workout equipment, and begin preparations for breakfast. Aizawa may like to sleep, but he was always punctual. Always waking up at noon, showering and changing by ten past, then be seated at the table by quarter past, ready to start the day. As Izuku climbed the stairs from the workout room in the basement to the first, then second floor, he began to think about the past few months.
Aizawa helped make his schedule, but insisted they spent a day to themselves, learning more about each other's pasts. It would help them in their current relationship, and gave them a day of rest, as well. Aizawa also took the liberty to get extra security for weekly visits to his mother. Both would get up around ten, meet with Shota's friends, Present Mic and Midnight, in casual wear, and spend the day out. They would meet, have breakfast, then take a train to Hosu General Hospital. It was the second best hospital that had the equipment to take care of Inko Midoriya, falling short of U.A. itself. Izuku would tell her about his past week, and keep her updated on how well Shota had been taking care of him. At one point, he had accidentally called him dad, but it seemed that Shota didn't hear it. Aizawa would also tell her about how well her son was doing, and that he would keep his promise to protect him.
Afterward, both Hizashi and Nemuri would accompany Shota and Izuku in praying for her recovery, and would take their leave. Even if she couldn't hear any of their meetings from her comatose state, it made them feel better to see her every weekend.
Izuku stood in the shower, and pondered on the past. Even back to when he went to school. He was happier now, and even lost his stuttering and nervousness around new people, but even with all the teasing he got from Midnight and Shota, he still couldn't handle those feelings very well. At least, not with anyone other than his mom.
He thought back to Kaachan, and wondered how they were doing. After the attack, he wasn't permitted by Aizawa to contact him or Aunt Mitsuki, nor give anyone the approval to see his mother. For both Izuku's and his mom's safety.
He turned off the shower, and changed into his clothes. They were simple, black sweats and a white t-shirt, with a baggy woodland green hoodie over top. He headed downstairs, and began preparing breakfast.
'Come to think of it, Kaachan might think I'm dead..' Izuku thought
He saw that the news reported a villain attack on an apartment, but Nezu only told them that a woman was attacked, but lived. The only person who wasn't gonna believe that story was Kaachan. He would know that was his apartment, and that his and mothers sudden disappearance from the Bakugou's lives would not be forgotten, but he hasn't heard from them, so he guessed all was okay.
He was just finishing making the eggs when Aizawa came down, grabbed a mug, and began making coffee.
"Mornin, Shota." Izuku said, failing to hide his somber tone from thinking.
Aizawa just grunted in acknowledgement before taking his seat at the counter. Their kitchen was somewhat spacious, and had a wraparound counter that doubled as their dining table. Because it was just the two of them, they didn't need anything more.
Plus, dining room stuff was expensive.
Izuku finished their food, and made two plates, and placed Shota's in front of him. Today was a typical Thursday, so they would be having lessons for a while, then Shota would give him fighting tips. He had taught him quite a bit of martial arts and boxing, but it was difficult with a single arm, so Shota improvised. Last month, before he began demonstrating, he tied his left arm behind his back, limiting his movement.
To Izuku, it showed that Aizawa was also training himself to fight with a single arm, and would switch arms on random days. Today, however, Aizawa had other plans.
"It's finally time to teach you how to fight like I do." He said, his mouth full of food. He never admitted it, but he would kill anyone that prevented him from having Izuku's cooking. It wasn't perfect, but whenever he ate it, he got calming vibes from eating, and would help re-energize him for the day.
Izuku just stared at him for a second, and swallowed his food. That could only mean one thing!
"Then, it's done then, right?!"Izuku stated, his happiness spilling out. Even Shota smiled and chuckled at the kids enthusiasm.
"Yeah, they told me last night it was done, and that they were ready for you to run tests."
Izuku jumped from his chair and tackled Shota in a hug. Just because he was nine, didn't mean he couldn't keep acting like a kid. Shota just chuckled as Izuku expressed his happiness, and began to explain their day. First, they were going to run tests, so training was a given. Second, in the car, he told him to hold back, and not break them on his first day. It took them a while to make his first arm, so it'd no doubt be just as long to rebuild it. Izuku agreed, and when they arrived back at the Hatsume's workshop, he was practically shaking with excitement. When they opened the door to the workshop, they were greeted by Mei and Kikai, and brought over to a large table with parts littered around, and a blanket covering what they suspected to be his arm.
"Alrighty then, Izuku! Here are your brand new arms!" Mei and Kikai said together, pulling away the blanket.
'Arms? Plural?!'
Misspoke, the Hatsume's hadn't, because laying on the table were two arms. One looked metal, and more militarized. It had what seemed to be a mixture of titanium alloy and carbon fiber covering the whole arm, with designs like circuits zig-zagging around the whole arm. The second arm creeped out Izuku and Shota, because it looked like a cut limb. In every sense, from the couplets at the end of the arm to the fingertips, it looked like a usual arm. It even matched his skin color.
"Me and my dad thought you wouldn't want to walk around with a super powerful arm, so we made a laid back version as well! That way one can be for hero work, and the other can be for when you're just a civilian! These babies got everything, too!"
Izuku was starstruck. He compared both arms to his own, and realized they were the same size. He looked over the metal arm, and found many hidden compartments along the forearm and hand.
"Those hidden slots got everything! We gave you a miniature Propulsion blaster in your palm to handle long range, and a hidden blade in the forearm. Besides some stuff like a holo-screen for a portable computer, and communications, that was all we could fit. The rest of the tech in this baby is to make it feel like a normal hand, but not so much that you forget it's a prosthetic!
Izuku looked over the human arm, too. There were no hidden compartments, nor slots for a hidden blade. He turned to Mei when she began to explain it.
"That arm was prioritized to be a normal arm. After we finished it with all the sensors for feeling, we realized there was no more room for hidden gadgets. But, you'll get a second arm."
Shota began talking about costs for the arms, and asked about its features for strength and reflexes, while Mei began to explain the last piece of the puzzle. Kikai led Shota back over, so he could explain. They showed them how the arms could quick-detach with a twist of a band at the couplet, below the shoulder. As they talked about how they managed to complete the slick aesthetic of a complete arm with no missing parts, they would need to perform surgery on Izuku's stump. They would put Izuku under, and, with Recovery Girl's direction, would install the body couplet. This held the power source, that could last for years, and gave the arm the ability to quick detach. Shota would have to be there too, to stop Izuku's quirk from healing the process.
"Well, Izuku? This is your body, and your arms. If you wa-"
"I want to do it." Izuku cut him off, looking dead into Shota's eyes.
"I trust Recovery Girl to successfully attach the couplet, and I trust the Hatsume's that it will work." Izuku looked at each of the inventors in turn, and looked back at Shota.
"On top of that, with you there, I know you'll make sure nothing bad will happen to me."
All three stared back at Izuku as he expressed his feelings towards them. Kikai felt proud that this kid, who barely knew him, trusted him with his life that his tech would work. Mei wasn't really paying attention anymore, and was back to making some crazy baby. Shota was the only one that was struggling to hide a tear. He moved forward and held Izuku in a tight hug, and pulled back to look him in the eye, failing at holding back his damn tear.
"I'm happy that you trust me so much, kid. I'll be right next to you through the whole thing, so if anything goes wrong, I can stop it, and we can try again, alright?"
Izuku returned the hug, and embraced his flowing tears. He had gotten better, but a lot of times, when he talked about his feelings with his mom and Shota, his tears would come back. They weren't as bad, but they still came.
"Oh, I forgot to mention. The couplet we'll be putting in your shoulder has a slot to change the battery at any point, and is designed to grow with your body. So you won't have to undergo the surgery again." Kikai stated, and walked up to Izuku. The two separated their hug, and Kikai bent down to grasp Izuku's shoulder.
"I appreciate your words, you man. If anything goes wrong, call me, and we'll come help with anything you need. Actually.." Kikai brought his other arm to his chin as he pondered something, before looking back up at Shota.
"He's gonna try for U.A. and get into the Hero Course, ain't he?"
"That's right. And with this arm, It'll make it easier to teach him to fight." Shota smirked, while ruffling Izuku's head.
"In that case.." Kikai stood up straight, put his hands on his hips, and puffed out his chest.
"When you get in, Mei will be going there for support, to make gear. I want to employ myself and Mei as your support Gear Suppliers! This way, we can watch over your arm, and design anything you need. Costume designs are included, as well! So, how about it, kid? Will you take in this crazy old geezer to help you be a hero?" Kikai said proudly, and held out his hand.
Izuku had never shaken someone's hand faster in his whole life.
"Yes! I will be looking forward to working with you, Kikai!"
3 Days Later...
Aizawa and Izuku spent the past days thinking about costume and gear designs, and waited for Sunday. They wanted to keep to their schedule, so decided the surgery would be after they visit Inko, and Monday could be used for rest and recovery, and if Izuku felt better by then, they could test the arm.
As they walked into the nurses room, Recovery Girl instructed what was going to happen. First, they would put Izuku under, and begin the surgery to implant the couplet. Kikai stood by in case something went wrong with the couplet or arm. The staff assisting RG would allow Shota to stand where instructed, to activate his quirk on Izuku if he subconsciously tried to heal anything they were doing.
Izuku changed into the hospital gown, and laid on the bed. It covered his body, so the doctors could focus on the stump. One of the nurses numbed an area on his right forearm, and injected a needle to supply him with liquid in a bag. She then took another needle and told him it was the sedative, so he wouldn't wake up during the surgery. She stuck the needle in his right shoulder, and pushed the liquid in, then took the empty needle and walked to listen with the other doctors. Kikai was going over how it was installed for the tenth time to the staff when Shota approached Izuku, asking how he felt.
"I'm a little nervous, but I trust everyone in here." Izuku stated, the sedative taking effect.
"How much longer you got till the drugs take full effect, kid? Don't be trying to fight it, it ain't a villain." Shota chuckled, resting his hand on Izuku's hair.
"God, you need a haircut." Shota joked, and Izuku lightly laughed.
"How 'bout after this is all over, you.. Give me... one... dad..." Izuku drifted off, and Recovery Girl placed an oxygen mask over the boy.
Shota just smiled. Of course he heard Izuku say it before, but felt just as happy to hear him say it again.
"Sure thing..." Shota patted his messy green hair once more, before standing up and took his place to help. A soft smile spread across his face, and remained there after he pulled up his hospital mask.
"...Son.."
A/N - Yep, Dadzawa has officially entered the story. Don't worry, he's still gonna be the bitchy beauty we all love him as.
