"Mom?"

He uttered the word not even believing it, She's been away for a long time, a whole year, and seeing her as someone else other than his loving mom makes her even more of a stranger to Zuko, who was standing in shock staring at her in silence for some time after he uttered the word.

Ursa decided to break the silence by speaking, "Yes, It's me, Zuko." She said, looking somewhat disappointed, was she expecting a hug? Zuko thought before speaking again.

"Why are you here?" he asked as his face turned neutral again, his five seconds of joy were gone as soon as he remembered why he hasn't seen his mother in a year.

Ursa frowned at Zuko's tone, but then she sighed as she understood where he came from, "I heard what happened to your sister and I came to check on her." She said.

Zuko snorted, "You Heard?! You Heard what happened to your own daughter, and you came twenty hours after the incident. Were you living in The Earth Kingdom the whole time?"

"Yes, Zuko, I Heard. and Yes, I've been living in The Earth Kingdom the whole time. my village isn't that far from Ba Sing Se, I came here as fast as I could with my husband and daughter." She said, but then she put a hand on her mouth as she realized the stupid words she said.

"You have another daughter?" Zuko asked in shock.

Ursa sighed, "Yes, her name is Kiyi. She'd love to meet you, My son."

Zuko kept looking at her in disbelief, he was silent for a couple of seconds, he then breathed in the last bit of his cigarette and threw it away, "Your REAL daughter is on the second floor, at room 2-6, you better hurry up." He told her with a sense of finality to his words, as if he's saying I don't want to talk to you anymore.

"Zuko.. Ple-" Ursa was about to speak before Zuko interrupted her.

"Mom! Just go." He said and looked away.

Ursa stood motionless in her place for a couple of seconds before composing herself and leaving to enter the hospital.

Zuko was in pain, he couldn't believe his mother has married again, his mother, the woman he loved the most in his life, decided to leave his father for another man, looks like life will never give Zuko a break. his sister is laying on a hospital bed, his mother lays with another man, and his father and uncle are laying in firenation prison cells, things couldn't get much worse.

Oh No! I just challenged the universe again, of course they'll think of something to make it worse, I need someone to talk to.. No, Not Aang. Sokka. Yes, he can give me the advice I need.

Zuko picked up his phone and rang Sokka's, he couldn't care less that it was midnight and Sokka is already asleep.

He picked up the phone, "Hello." Sokka said while being sleepy.

"Sokka, I need to talk to you right now."

"What happened? is Azula okay?" He asked, somewhat panicked.

"No.. I mean Yes, she is okay.. Everything is fine, I need to talk to you about something that concerns me."

"Zuko, It's the middle of the night, don't you have a sense of timing, man?" Sokka asked disgruntled.

"I need someone to talk to.. and I can't think of anybody but you, we can't talk over the phone, we need to meet, I'll bring the car and drive to your house."

"No, Of course not, My dad is here tonight and he's asleep. Let's go to the Jasmine Dragon." Sokka said, already yawning.

"Can you drive there this way?"

"Of course I can, I've been asleep for four hours, that's enough for me." Sokka said, another yawn escaped his mouth as he said the words.

Zuko sighed, "Alright. See ya at the cafe."

"Okay, bye." Sokka said as he hung up the phone.

Zuko went to his car and started the engine, and made his way to the jasmine dragon, It's been a long time since he's had a heart to heart with anybody but Aang, he knew it's gonna be hard talking to Sokka, but at the moment he just had no one else to talk to, He wished he wouldn't find Fung there at the jasmine dragon so that he wouldn't be pulled into a conversation he doesn't wanna dive into at the moment.

He arrived at The Jasmine Dragon and pulled up, he made his way out of the car and into The Cafe, only to find Sokka waiting for him at Azula's regular meeting table, he almost smiled to himself at how Azula influenced their friends so much but he couldn't at the moment, as soon as Sokka saw him he waved to him and Zuko immediately made his way to the table.

"Hey, buddy. two cups of tea, Teo." Zuko said to the waiter, he nodded and went on to bring their order as they were the only customers in the place as Zuko then pulled out a chair and sat across of Sokka.

"Hey. Whatever you woke me up for, it better be important or I'm not gonna be very happy." Sokka said, sounding displeased.

Zuko was silent, not knowing how to start the conversation, they waited until Teo brought the tea and went away which was almost five minutes in total silence, until Zuko finally found the courage to speak,

"There's something that happened at The Hospital that-" Zuko was about to continue until he heard low snoring, Sokka fell asleep as they were waiting for their tea, "Sokka!" Zuko shouted.

"What?! What?!" Sokka woke up panicking.

"You fell asleep."

"That's because you are so BORING!" Sokka said angrily.

Zuko huffed but continued, "As I was saying, There's something that happened at The Hospital that I need to talk to you about."

"Did Azula eat a nurse alive?" Sokka asked sarcastically while yawning.

Zuko frowned in confusion, "What? No. Why would you say that?" Zuko asked.

"I was joking, Man. but it's funny how you took my question seriously, making one wonder how far Azula would go." Sokka said with an uncomfortable look on his face.

Zuko kept staring at him in confusion, but he immediately shook his head, "We have no time for jokes, Sokka. something really happened, something big. at least for us."

"Well, spit it out, Man."

Zuko was silent for a second again, before taking a deep breath and voicing it out to Sokka, "My mother is back."

Sokka's look changed completely, his eyes widened and the sleepy look on his face got replaced by that of amusement, "Your mother? Ursa?" Sokka asked, checking if what he's heard is true.

"One and the same." Zuko confirmed.

Sokka looked at him for a second before saying, "Of course, it makes sense, that's her daughter on the hospital bed. do you think she was watching over you all this time?" Sokka asked.

"I don't know.. I don't know anything anymore, as soon as I saw her, My mind was out of work, a few seconds more and I would have run to hug her, that's why I ended the conversation with her a bit early. I missed her so much, Sokka." Zuko said sincerely with tears gathering at the corners of his eyes.

Sokka looked at him with a look of sympathy, "I understand." Sokka simply said as he put a hand on Zuko's shoulder.

"You do?" Zuko asked.

"Yes, Trust me there's no one to understand how you feel more than me and Katara." Sokka said as the look on his face turned to that of sadness.

"At least your mom was a good woman, she never cheated on your father or left you behind!" Zuko said as the feelings of sadness turned to those of anger.

"Zuko, you told me that you never spoke to your mother since the incident, so how could you know if her motives were well or ill?" Sokka asked.

Zuko pulled back in his chair with an angry look, "Why would you defend her?! you don't even know her." He said angrily.

"I'm not defending her, I'm simply speaking based on the facts at hand, the fact is, your mother knew somehow that Azula is on the hospital bed and she came as fast as she could which means she's keeping an eye on you, that doesn't sound like an irresponsible woman to me, that sounds like a woman that's running away from something." Sokka said.

that grabbed Zuko's attention, he was about to speak until a voice made itself felt from behind them,

"Your friend is right, Zuko." Zuko turned around to find Fung standing, appearing to have been listening to their conversation all along, Fung then made his way to the table unaware of Zuko's look of displeasure.

"Is that how you treat your customers? you listen in on their conversations?" Zuko asked.

"You're the only customers around and your loud voices didn't make it sound like a secret." Fung said.

"Still you could have stopped yourself from listening in." Zuko still complained.

"I couldn't just stand idly by while you're disrespecting your mother like that, the woman is innocent and you know it deep down in your heart." Fung said.

Zuko had that same look of confusion on his face, "What're you talking about?" he asked.

Fung looked at him and said, "I told you I was a dear friend of your Uncle's and he told me many things about your family."

"What sort of things?" Zuko asked. Fung appeared to have an inner struggle, as if Fung was fighting within himself about whether to talk to Zuko or not, so Zuko encouraged him,

"Fung, I have a thousand thoughts on my mind right now, and they are torturing me. So, please, help me." Zuko said, not believing that he practically just begged someone he loathed.

Fung sighed again, "Alright, Zuko.." He said, he waited for a couple of seconds before speaking again,

"Your mother ran away from your father because she never wanted to marry him in the first place, It was a forced marriage, your mother was a pawn in a political game between Azulon's house and a rival house, they wanted to make matters clear and work together so they forced your mother to marry your father, and the two houses joined, after your father's arrest and your house's fall, there was no need for your mother to be there, so she escaped and went looking for the man that she's loved her entire life, and that's about what Iroh told me, he never told me of their coordinates or even the man's name, He didn't have time to know as he was still mulling over the idea of handing himself over to help his brother." Fung finished, and Zuko's one thousand thoughts were doubled.

Zuko kept looking at Fung in shock, but after some time he was able to speak,

"She kept an eye on us.. She didn't wanna leave us but in the meantime, she didn't wanna be found, which means, she has something to fear for.." Zuko remembered as his mother mentioned that she does have another daughter to look after right now,

he then continued, "I must speak with her." He finally said, and Fung smiled.

"Yes, I believe that's the right decision, Zuko. Please, go easy on your mother. She's no less a victim than you or Azula are." Fung said meaningfully to Zuko, who nodded in return,

as Zuko was about to get off his chair, both he and Fung were startled back to their chairs by the sound of loud snoring, when they looked across the table, they found Sokka in deep sleep, his head rested at the tip of the chair, one move and he would fall off.

Zuko looked at Fung and said, "I completely forgot that he was there." He said.

Fung smiled and said, "No worries, I'll drive him home."

"You're a good man, I wish I had something to pay you back for all your kindness." Zuko said.

"A look of approval from you is payment enough." Fung said with the same smile plastered on his face towards Zuko.

Zuko finally returned the smile and nodded to him, he then got off his chair and left the cafe, he made his way to the car to go to the hospital and finally have the long awaited conversation with his mother.
