Chapter 8

SGMWH, Seattle

2 weeks had gone by after the Arizona's Callie is sick and I'm not with her meltdown, she has calmed down about it but not before she bothered Teddy to call Dr. Riggs to make sure Callie was fine. Now they are sitting down in the conference room, all the department head present with an unknown woman just across teddy, she looked at the woman intently and noticed the little "Orthopedic Attending" in her I.D. And that's when she gave the woman the stinky eyes.

"What are you doing?" Teddy asks her sincerely curious. "You like her?"

"What? No! They're… She's Callie's replacement." She answered finally turning to Teddy

"Oh… So?"

"What do you mean so? It only means one thing! Callie is staying there and she'll never come back and she's gonna move on and meet a woman… or a man and oh god what if she falls in love with her roommate? I heard she's hot like… sex on the legs hot and—or what if I move on and she comes back and thinks that I didn't care about her? They can't get a replacement she—" She was cut off by Derek coughing and realized that her voice went a little above the whisper volume.

"You got all that from a replacement?" Teddy laughs quietly as she turns her attention back to Derek.

"As I was saying… I'm stepping down as the chief. I'm born for the ORs not for the papers so starting tomorrow… today rather, Dr. Webber will regain his title." The room has been just in silence, so he took it as his cue to continue, "But before we finish here, I'd like you to meet someone. His is Dr. Eliza Minnick, she will be a temporary replacement" He paused and looked at Arizona who smiled sheepishly at him and the woman stood beside him "for Dr. Torres until she comes back. " That was the last of it and everyone greeted Dr. Minnick before they adjourned the meeting.

Arizona was charting at the nurses' station when someone tapped her on the shoulder. She looked up and saw the woman earlier.

"Dr. Robbins, right? " Eliza asked her, a hint of playfulness. (Or maybe it was flirting) was evident in her tone, "I saw you looking at me earlier and so I think I'll be straight to the point, want to go get some drinks with me?"

"I have a girlfriend" was all Arizona answered without even looking at her. She gets a vibe from the woman that she can't seem to point out.

"I've been here for a day and I've heard the people talk. You broke up months ago, you need to get out there and have a little fun. " Eliza says as she moves closer to Arizona.

"Whether I have a girlfriend or not, I'd rather watch a crappy romcom than gets drunk with you. For your information, I was not looking at you because I was interested, It's because you're my girlfriend's temporary replacement." Just then her pager beeped, and she saw that it was from Alex "I have patients to get too. I'm sorry if I offended you" even if she was annoyed, Arizona can't help feeling guilty if she had offended the woman in front of her, so she had the need to say sorry.

She quickly rolled into the peds wing and found Alex in her office.

"Hey, you're here, can you look at his scans?" He says as he handed the scans to her "Flinn Parker, 15 years old. He's experiencing abdominal contractions, says it feels like she's about to give birth to a baby and he had rectal bleeding."

"Seems like Abdominal Muscle Spasm. Have him admitted and get him a new ultrasound in 2 hours. Give him a shot of morphine too, and have me page after the ultrasound and if we have a confirmed diagnosis, we'll schedule him for surgery." She says before taking off to an on call room.

A month and a half later, Arizona was pretty much fed up with Eliza's un-ending propositions of going on a date. She knew she was free to date whoever she wants, but she can't help but to feel like she will be cheating on Callie if she did. Truly, the love she has for Callie is something else, she loves Callie unlike the way she has loved anyone else. Everyone has been just anyone but Callie… she's Callie, she's someone.

Today seemed like any other day, except for her though. She feels uneasy and as a Type-A person she can't help but be annoyed by that feeling as she can't put her finger on it. She's on her way to an on-call room when she bumped into Teddy, who then pushed her inside.

"Woah, what got you on your toes." Arizona says as she plops down on the bed

"I'm in a love triangle… with Cristina and Owen" Teddy answers… as if saying it to herself more than to Arizona.

"Um… yeah? That's general knowledge Theodora"

"No, uh… yeah, but I'm not sure who I like more? God this is confusing" Teddy answers as she runs her hand through her hair "I mean… I- there's Owen, he's nice and I've liked him since I don't know when" she pauses again and looks at Arizona "then there's Cristina, she is beautiful and talented and kind of amazing…Wait why aren't you shocked?"

Arizona opens her eyes and looks at Teddy

"Teddy… I'm gay like the Gayest of gays…Lesbianic. Don't you think I would have a good gaydar? And you stare too long at women, no way in hell you were as straight as a ruler" she pauses and thinks of what she should say next "You know you can talk to me about it right?"

Teddy did not think twice and hops on the bed next to Arizona.

"Her name is Allison… she uhm… she died in the 9/11 attack. She was my someone you know, she was there through my griefs and my laughs, I'd like to think that we were together except we weren't together… together. She had a girlfriend, who by the way lives with us. We were something Arizona… I know, I know it wasn't right, but when I was with her it was as if none of the rest of it mattered. I think she could be the love of my life." She pauses, trying to hold back tears "and I'm scared… I'm scared that what if I do like another woman…but I can't love her the way I loved Allison? And what if it is Cristina? That won't be fair to anyone."

"I'm so sorry about Allison, I think I would've liked her had we met." Arizona took a deep breath before she continues "It's a complicated situation you are Teddy and I know I'm not one to give relationship advices right now, but you shouldn't stop yourself from liking someone just because of our past loves. Every love is different, but everyone has that one love that will never be surpassed by any other love." She pauses once again "and if you really do like Cristina, then it's fine, but you have to know… we don't know if Cristina bats that way and it might complicate things between the two of you. But also, you don't want to have that what if in the future, what could've been if you tried."

"Why is everything so confusing and wrong? You and Callie should be together, and you aren't. How am I gonna have a hope for my love-life when my model couple broke up? You two are idiots." Teddy says exasperated and Arizona just stayed silent. She knows.

"Well, I got to go now; I have a surgery in 30 minutes with Cristina. Wish me luck" Teddy says, standing up and heading to the door.

"You don't need luck! You're great" Arizona follows up and heard a faint I know from Teddy.

After 10 minutes of tossing and turning on the bed, Arizona decided to just go roam on the PEDs floor so now she's skating at the halls, for the 2nd time.

"Robbins what are you doing?" Alex said, looking at her unamusingly.

"Skating. What else do you think?"

"No, you're not. You're moping." He saw Arizona's gonna try to argue and cuts her off "Yes, you are, and you will stop. Go do some charting at the Nurse's station or something." He says and drags her to the nurse's station. He asks for two patient charts from the nurse and left Arizona.

"You seem like you could use some cheering up" Someone whispers from behind her.

"it's fine Dr. Minnick"

"You really have to loosen up a bit. Grab some drinks with me." Eliza says, trying to rile Arizona up.

"Dr. Minnick I am once again asking you to stop trying to ask me out. I like to keep things professional at work"

"Your Girlfriend"Eliza says with air quotes on the word girlfriend "doesn't have to know"

"My Girlfriend's name is Dr. Torres and even if she doesn't have to know, I won't go because you're really not my type." Arizona looks at her "Totally not my type " she finishes and heard the nurse in front of them laugh.

"ARIZONA!" Lexie shouts, running towards her "Oh, um-I mean Dr. Robbins, I'm sorry I was just so excited, and you weren't online and everyone else was working so I went here myself and-"

"Lexie, Lexie…It's fine, I told you already you can call me Arizona. What is it anyways?" Arizona says cutting her off

"Oh! We talked to Callie… well not talk talk but she messaged us! In the group chat! But you weren't online, and she disappeared almost instantly" Lexie didn't even get to finish before she saw Arizona roll to her office.

"Damn It. My phone is dead. " She says frustratingly. She really, really missed Callie. Lexie soon followed her and hands her the phone.

"It's just two messages, but at least it's something, right?" Lexie offered.

"Yeah, it's something." Arizona says, smiling, "I have Biliary Atresia in an hour… wanna scrub in?"

"Oh yeah of course!"

Arizona was just scrubbing out of her surgery when she got paged to the Attending's lounge and Arriving there, she felt the heavy atmosphere of the surrounding. Owen, Teddy, Mark and Bailey were there who quickly looked at her as she entered the room.

"Who died?" Arizona says playfully and went to get a water from the fridge.

"Arizona"Owen starts "It's about Callie" and that was all she needed to hear before she froze.

"Just say it."

"They lost contact with them. Callie volunteered to be left alone to look after the wounded soldiers, but they suddenly lost contact with them." Owen continues carefully and watches as Arizona just stood there. What else can she say? It's not like she can do anything, so she just stood there completely unmoving.

"Arizona?" It was Mark who broke the silence "She's gonna be fine you know?"

"Yeah, I know. Well, there's really nothing I can do about it right? I… I have patients." She quickly ran out of the room to go to her office and with Teddy hot on her tracks.

Entering her Office, she completely broke down to her knees, silent tears coming down her now very pale face. Teddy just bent beside her, drawing circles on her back so she would calm down.

"She's not fine Teddy. She's not okay. Why would she do that? Why will she volunteer herself? Is she trying to get herself killed? God nothing can't be calm for even just a little bit." She lets out between sobs

"Hey, we're gonna find her okay? I promise I'll contact everyone I know and so does Owen…How about you Are you okay?"

"No, I am not okay. I may never see her again and her last memory of me is me telling her how I can't trust her. She's gonna die thinking I hate her!" Arizona cried louder with that thought.

"Hey, no one is dying, okay?" Teddy says soothingly, but Arizona couldn't answer. She won't be fine until she finds out how Callie is.

"I'm gonna call my father. Can you step out for a while?"

Teddy sighs and nods "Okay, but please Arizona I know you're worried, but please don't shut us out. We'll go through this altogether okay? We are here for you? " Teddy answers as Arizona gave her A small smile.

Everything will change, Nothing will stay the same. Nothing goes as planned, Everything will break. Is this the way it ends? How did they rise only to fall in like this? Is this how their story will end?
