Making a decision, Scarlett slowly swung her legs over the edge of the bed and stood for the first time since she'd arrived there. It wasn't any surprise that she quickly realized how weak and tired she felt from just lying in the hospital bed all this time. Even so, she was a little disappointed that she likely wouldn't have the energy to go very far on her first venture from this room. There was also the issue of the IV she still had.
Scarlett slowly wandered out into the hall, IV pole and all, and looked around. It was the first time she'd properly seen the hall, and not surprisingly there wasn't much to see. Scarlett thought back to the times she'd been to her usual hospital; she never really saw much of anyone wandering around except maybe the occasional nurse. This hospital meanwhile seemed even more dead, not even nurses wandering around. It seemed the entire floor was deserted, most likely because the patients were in bad shape and not exactly up to walking around and the nurses were busy with them, she assumed.
Not finding anything interesting to look at, Scarlett moved to some big windows. Although the view overlooked the parking lot, she was too high up in the building to really make out anything distinct outside. Even so, the different view than from her own hospital room made for a slightly more interesting experience. And by slightly more interesting, it meant Scarlett was still bored out of her skull.
She briefly considered finding out where Emergency was so she could find Dixie, but quickly decided against it. Even if she did manage to find Dixie, what would she do once she did? Scarlett still didn't want to talk about herself, especially not about why she'd tried to kill herself, so what was the point in tracking Dixie down? She'd likely just be in the way in the ER anyway, especially if they were busy, and the idea of being a nuisance to everyone didn't appeal to her.
Feeling her stomach rumble, Scarlett's thoughts drifted back to food. Maybe if she could locate the cafeteria, they'd have better food than what they served the patients. From what she remembered, her usual hospital's cafeteria's food was decent. In fact, compared to what she'd been served here, it was practically a gourmet meal.
The problem was, cafeterias required money. Which was something she very obviously didn't have, as she hadn't exactly been thinking about making sure she had money on her when she tried to kill herself. Even if she did happen to have any money in the pockets of the jeans she was brought in wearing, it wasn't likely to be nearly enough for a meal anyway.
Still, Scarlett's stomach annoyingly continued to remind her of its existence. Fine, she decided, she'd at least look just so she'd know for sure. After making the short, but exhausting, walk back to her room, Scarlett looked around. Surely, they would've put her clothes around here somewhere, but where? The most likely place was in the drawers next to her bed, and after opening and subsequently shutting the first two, she finally found what she was looking for. There, in a bag, were her clothes.
Digging through her jean pockets, she almost instantly located a single quarter which made her sigh. Just as she'd suspected, she hadn't had the foresight to try to kill herself with enough money for a meal on her. However, Scarlett's thoughts of food quickly disappeared as her hand closed around another item in the bag that she had completely forgotten. She willed herself not to break into tears as her heart pounded in her chest as she stared at the necklace Kyle had given her a couple months ago as a birthday gift. Although it was a plain heart necklace with a tiny diamond that Scarlett wasn't even sure was real, and likely not worth anything at all even if it was, it was a reminder of what they'd had together. And what she'd lost.
Against her better judgement, she put the necklace back on and relished in the slight familiarity the necklace brought her. Scarlett knew it was weird to still wear jewelry from an ex, and she didn't plan to wear it forever, but right now she damn well needed any comfort it could bring her, however slight.
Her desire to get out of the room forgotten, Scarlett got back into the bed. Once again she wished she could just cease existing, or at the least, have back what she had lost. A small part of her wished Roy was still around, as he had been one of the first people to drag her out of her depression just enough that she felt human again. Sure, it had been her decision to talk to him, but now that she had, it gave her someone she relied on for that feeling… except he was doing his job, with his partner Brice.
So instead, she just lie there, curled in a ball, as time progressed by her. She had no idea how much time passed, nor honestly, did she care. It was only when she heard the door start to open that she realized she had probably been lying there for hours. This fact was reinforced by the fact that in came Dixie carrying more food for her.
Why was an ER nurse bringing in her food… especially one who seemed important? Weren't there lower-level nurses better suited for such pointless tasks? Though it was probably just so Dixie could once again try and coax her into talking. Not that she wanted to talk much more about what happened now, especially after finding her necklace. Though Scarlett couldn't bring herself to ignore the woman completely, so she asked literally what she thought.
"Why are you here?" She muttered, unwilling to really look at Dixie.
