Dot woke up, yawning.
After she was done yawning she tried to roll around into a more comfortable position but found that she couldn't. Yakko had his arms wrapped around her in a tight embrace.
Dot huffed at her current situation but tried to wriggle out of his grasp. After a few seconds of trying she gives up. The idea to try and wake him up pops into her mind and so she tried it.
"Wake up." She whispered.
Yakko doesn't.
Dot huffed, this time making her voice a little bit louder than before.
"Wake up!"
This managed to wake Yakko up. He blinked blearily at her and yawned.
"Wha-?" He asked, confused and still tired.
"Can you let go of me, please?"
Yakko yawned again but let go of her. He then chose to roll to the other side with his back to her and promptly fell back asleep.
Dot slowly got up but as she did she took the time to glance back at him. She felt a wave of love wash over her.
After staring at Yakko for what seemed like ages Dot finally snapped out of her trance, choosing to descend the ladder of the triple bunk bed. Once she reached the floor she decided she might as well walk to the bathroom.
As Dot entered the room she couldn't help but think how weird it was that she was in the same room as Wakko was less than a day ago. As she looked into the mirror with her sullen reflection staring back at her, more thoughts about her beloved brother invaded her mind.
Dot started wondering why she didn't say more to him when she had the chance. What kind of sister had she been to just stand next to the door and never offer him a single hug? Or offer to actually listen to him? She remembered how much pain and anger had been in his voice. He had clearly been hurting and neither she nor Yakko had noticed til it was too late.
She then began to think about why she hadn't stayed home instead of running off with Yakko to the store. She could've prevented Wakko from leaving but instead she had run off leaving him behind. No wonder he thought she was a 'two-faced wanker' who prefered Yakko over him.
A strong feeling of guilt and sadness washed over Dot, threatening to drown her. So she tried to distract herself by brushing her teeth and then combing her fur. It worked until she was done with her tasks, then the emotions returned.
Dot was about to break down and cry when suddenly she heard Yakko yelling for her. That brought her out of her head.
She walked out of the bathroom.
"Yes?" Dot called out. She could see Yakko staring down at her from the top bunk, he was watching her like a hawk.
"I was wondering where you were."
Dot shook her head, exasperated. Couldn't her brother give her a little bit of privacy?
"Bathroom. Doing stuff."
Yakko's worried expression quickly changed into a sheepish one.
"Sorry sis."
Dot sighed, she understood why Yakko was freaked out by her not being by his side. He already lost Wakko, if he lost her - well - she hoped it wouldn't come to that. She couldn't imagine how he would react to her leaving. And she didn't want to.
"I won't leave you."
Yakko gave her a small smile and was about to tell her something when suddenly their home phone began to ring.
Excitement shot through Dot destroying the anxiety within her. She was going to get to the phone first.
"I'll get it!" She exclaimed.
"No! I will!" Yakko yelled back.
She began to make her way over to the phone when suddenly a loud smack sounded behind her. Dot quickly turned around and saw what had made the noise. Yakko had leapt off the top bunk and had landed face first. After a few seconds he slowly got up and wiped his face with his hand.
"Oh my goodness, are you okay?" Dot asked. She knew that that fall must've stung.
Yakko stopped wiping his face with his hand, choosing to give her a devilish grin. Uh oh. She knew that look well.
"I'll get the phone!" He exclaimed.
Dot screamed and ran off to find the phone. She could feel Yakko chasing after her. He was getting close, she could feel his body heat.
But she managed to get to the phone first. Once there she yanked up the receiver and placed it against her ear. She noticed that Yakko was standing close behind her. She could picture him staring down at her with a warm look in his eyes.
"This is Dot Warner speaking, how may I help you?" Dot spoke into the phone.
A german-accented voice that belonged to none other than Dr. Otto Scratchansniff their P-sychiatric answered her.
"Hallo, Dot. I vould like for you und your brothers to come into my office as soon as possible."
"Sure thing Scratchy! See you in a bit!" Dot hung up the phone. She then turned around to face Yakko.
He wasn't giving her a warm look. He was staring down at her with a worried expression on his face.
"What did Scratchy want?"
"Well, he said that he wants us to come to his office A.S.A.P."
Yakko looked at her, even more worried than before. Dot wondered what had caused a shift in his mood.
"But we haven't eaten breakfast yet…"
Breakfast? There was no time for breakfast. They needed to go down to Scratchy's office soon so that they could spill the beans on Wakko and the whole Catherine situation.
"We can just eat pop tarts on the way!"
Yakko sighed, "Pop tarts it is then."
So Yakko and Dot went to the cabinet, each getting their favorite flavor; Yakko's being brown sugar cinnamon; Dot's being frosted strawberry. The two munch on the pop tarts on their way to the Dr. Scratchansniff's office.
Once they got inside the building they ended up bumping into Hello Nurse.
"Hello Dot, hello Yakko." She said.
"Hi." Dot responded. She cringed, waiting for the inevitable, Yakko would jump into Hello Nurse's arms and kiss her on the cheek.
But that never happened. Yakko was rooted to the same spot that he was standing in. And he hadn't said anything to her. Dot began to worry about her brother. He hadn't been acting much like himself.
"Where's Wakko at?" Hello Nurse's question broke Dot out of her thoughts.
"Oh uh, he's sick." That wasn't a full lie. Wakko probably was still sick.
'Oh, well tell him that I hope he gets better soon."
"We will." Dot said.
"By the way, Scratchy's waiting for you. He's been antsy all morning."
"Thanks."
So Yakko and Dot continued on their way to Scratchy's office. When Dot entered the room she noticed right away that Hello Nurse was right. He really was anty. Scratchy was pacing back and forth behind his desk and it seemed like he was muttering something to himself.
Dot walked over to him and poked him in the leg. Yakko followed her closely behind.
Scratchy jumped when she poked him and the serious expression on his face melted, turning into a more happy one.
"Ah, Yakko und Dot. Boy am I glad to see you two." He said. Then he asked, "Uh, vhere is Wakko?"
Dot sighed, she wondered how she should go about telling him about the whole 'Wakko situation'. She quickly settled on just telling him the whole truth. There was no use in lying to Scratchy. He needed to know what was going on anyways.
"Well, that's kind of a long story…"
Scratchy gave her a worried look. "Have a seat und tell me about this 'long story', ja?"
Dot and Yakko both hop up onto his desk and sit down on it in front of him. He doesn't seem to mind this and he too takes a seat.
"Wait! Tell us why you needed us to be here."
Scratchy seemed startled by this but answered anyway.
"Vell, I called you in here because somebody broke into my office yesterday morning und stole one of my patient's files."
Dot gasped at this, she couldn't believe that somebody would steal something so private. It made her slightly sick and she reached over, grabbing ahold of Yakko's hand. Yakko didn't seem to mind, he was too busy staring down at the desk. Not saying anything.
"Who did it? Whose file was it?" She asked.
"I'm not entirely sure but I think it may have been one of my new patients. Und the file belonged to Wakko."
Dot felt Yakko slip his hand out of her grasp, she turned to him and saw a shocked expression on his face.
"Who did it?" He asked.
"I believe that it was Catherine O'Thorn who stole your brother's file."
Dot watched as Yakko stood up stiffly. He was tense. Dot stood up too, trying to calm her brother down by hugging him but he didn't hug her back. He was too busy staring Scratchy down.
Scratchy gave him a concerned look.
"Vhat's wrong Yakko?"
"What's wrong? I'll tell you what's wrong! That Catherine O'Thorn has been a real 'thorn' in mine and Dot's side!" He snapped. Dot could feel her brother tremble with suppressed anger.
Scratchy was completely still in shock. He glanced over at Dot. All she could do was nod at him.
"Vhat has Catherine done to you all?" He asked, softly.
So Dot and Yakko recounted to him what all happened the day before. Not remembering the interview that they did. How weird Wakko acted when he was asked about the interview. How he ran and locked himself in the bathroom. How he had thrown up on Yakko. How he had run away while Yakko and Dot went grocery shopping. And then about their nightmares that they had last night.
While that was going on Dot couldn't help but reflect on how all of these events started because of the interview. Maybe if they figured out what happened during the interview then they could figure out why Wakko ran away - oh.
Dot gasped. Maybe Wakko had run away because of something they said in the interview…
Her thoughts were interrupted by Scratchy taking off his glasses and leaning back into his seat. His eyes were filled with concern and worry.
"I vish that you would have contacted me sooner. This whole situation sounds very serious."
Yakko sighed, "I would've called sooner but you called me before I could call you."
"Wait, Scratchy. Why did Catherine steal Wakko's file?" That was one thing that Dot definitely was thinking about now. Why would she need his file? For what reason?
"Catherine needed my help to find her a donor that could give her their emotions. So that she can stay alive."
"Why would she need emotions? Isn't she a human?" Yakko asked, confused.
Scratchy grabbed his glasses and put them back on. "Catherine O'Thorn is an Emotional Vampire. Instead of feeding on blood like a regular vampire she instead feeds off of emotions. Und she can also remove somebody's emotions entirely."
Dot stared at Scratchy, a feeling of unease washing over her. Wakko was out there somewhere, somewhere where an Emotional Vampire could find him and hurt him. She was about to fall to her knees when suddenly Yakko wrapped his arms around her, hugging her.
"Yakko?" She asked.
"It's okay Dot, I've got you."
"But if you've got me, who's got you?"
Then suddenly they were both encased by two, much larger, arms. It was Scratchy. He was hugging them both. It felt nice as the three of them hugged.
"I vould like to help you two find Wakko."
"It's fine with me…" Dot said. "Yakko?"
Yakko didn't respond. She could feel him slightly tremble. Whether from anger or from sadness, she was unsure.
"Yak?"
"Fine with me too."
Dot felt a surge of worry for her brother. He sounded like he was on the verge of tears but was trying to hold back his emotions.
She wasn't sure what to say at the moment so all Dot did was squeeze Yakko a little bit more, just so he knew how much she loved him. After what seemed like an eternity Scratchy finally let go of Dot and Yakko.
Yakko let go of Dot. When she looked up at her brother she could see that he was much more relaxed than he had been earlier and he seemed just a little bit more happy.
"Let's go find Wakko." He said. A determined look on his face.
Dot nodded, that was the Yakko that she knew and loved.
They were going to find Wakko, no matter what.
